"Action, imagination, and steamy sex. . .great, sexy reads!" --freshfiction.com on Sexy Beast WARNING! This is a REALLY HOT book. Explicit sex.
Some people just seem to know they are meant to write, but it can still take a while to figure out exactly what their career will entail. Kate Douglas started out writing radio copy for a country western radio station in 1972, wrote and illustrated an educational cartoon strip for the American Mosquito Control Association for a number of years, was a newspaper reporter for a small town weekly where she covered everything from high school sports to drug busts, and then, in the mid-1980s, decided to write her first romance.
Many submissions and rejections followed.
In 1998, she sold to a small ebook publisher before anyone knew what an ebook was, but it wasn't until 2005, a full twenty years after finishing that first romance, that she signed with a New York publisher.
In January 2006, Kensington Publishing launched their Aphrodisia imprint of erotic romance with Kate's Wolf Tales, a sexy paranormal series about a lost race of shapeshifters. She went on to write 21 novels and novellas in that series, then wrote three other series for Kensington before moving to St. Martin's Press.
She has two series with SMP--The Intimate Relations series complete with three novels and one novella of romantic suspense set in California's wine country, and an erotic paranormal series, Feral Passions, set in California's Trinity Alps.
She is also continuing her Spirit Wild series, the sequel to Wolf Tales, independently.
Kate and her husband of over forty-five years have two adult children and six grandchildren. They live in the small town of Healdsburg, California, in the heart of the beautiful Sonoma County wine country.
Note to Publisher: Change the AWFUL cover and the HORRIBLE NAME and I think these books would sell better. I'm giving this a higher rating mostly for the last story my Kathleen Dante, it was smart to end with her story.
1. Chanku Fallen by Kate Douglas. I've read Wolf I and Sexy Beast I regarding the Chankus and liked this short the best of all 3. Mik & AJ find Tala, a Chanku potential. Mik & AJ are gay but I guess with the wolf thing going on they can't help their attraction to Tala. I liked AJ and Mik alone without her, but that's probably just me. ***
2. Fantasie by Noelle Mack. Can I say one thing I don't find appealing at all. It's the guy who can read a girl's thoughts at will. Always the girl is thinking nasty thoughts about the guy and he just smirks. I think it's a creepy invasion of privacy.
That said, Jean-Claude can read Tanya's mind while she's thinking nasty thoughts about him. He's your standard time-traveling lion/man. Jean-Claude hires Tanya to do his lion's hair just because. There's no photo shoot or active circus thing, he just wants to get the lion's hair done WITH BEADS!!!! I really could not get into the story and I had no idea why Jean-Claude would instantly fall in love with Tanya or stay in love with her. Tanya was just annoying and the lion/man thing made no sense. This is from a woman who just reviewed a story about gay werewolves and liked it. **
3. Call of the Wild by Kathleen Dante. Deanna is moving from Boston to Hillsboro to find out about her parents who were killed when she was young. She's driven off the road by a drunk driver and rescued by cop Graeme. He's also a werewolf and when he gets a sniff of her, he wants to get to know her better. Next day, there's no stopping them. She finds out she's a werewolf too, they fight the bad guys and say they're going to get to know each other better. This is kind of nice instead of the instant wedding and him demanding she never leave. My favorite of the bunch.
An anthology of three erotic stories involving animals.
Series "Chanku Fallen" (Chanku, 6, Sexy Beast, 2)
The Stories Kate Douglas' "Chanku Fallen" is part of the erotic Chanku series of wolf shapeshifters and their menages. It's actually very sweet how protective the pack is about each other.
The nominal adventure in each story is simply an excuse for sex and "Chanku Fallen" begins with Mik and AJ as bondmates searching for the long-lost sister of one of their pack when they encounter a woman, Tala, being brutalized in a bar. She naturally stows away in their SUV and they rescue her right into their bed.
Noelle Mack's "Fantaisie" is a fascinating approach in an erotic tale involving a talented hair dresser and a duke's son caught in a time warp. Hired to dress the mane of his lion, Tanya discovers that Jean-Claude is a very gifted psychic talent capable of projecting sexual fantasies through his circus and tapestries about his life.
It was a good story until Mack ran out of the number of pages she was allotted and had to quickly finish abruptly, tamely, boringly…
Kathleen Dante's "Call of the Wild" was fun, mixing a touch of werewolf culture with the "normal" world and leaving the reader with a desire for a series.
Deanna has taken a vacation to discover her roots when a truck runs her off the road in a tiny mountain town. A very accommodating deputy sheriff, Graeme, rescues her and gives her a lift…in more ways than one.
CHANKU FALLEN---- AJ and Mik were sent on assignment for a sister from a new member of the pack. Chanku female's are hard to come by. Baylor is new to the pack and had mentioned to Ulrich about his sisters.
Mary Ellen Quinn, aka Tia, has been Jimmy's whore for the past 3 years. AJ and Mik have been in a city looking for her in a bar and notices a woman being beat up. They decide to leave it be, because of their history in prison themselves. On their way out of the city they hear rumbling from the back floorboard only to find the one and only Tia.
Tia just had to get away from Jimmy but knew she wouldn't be able to get far from him without him cathing up. AJ, Mik and Tia decide to stop and get a hotel room to get cleaned up. They were on their way to San Francisco back to their packmates. Through a lot of sex, loving and pampering from the men, Tia decides to stay with them.
Something happens at the hotel. They suddenly have to leave and the only place they can think of is the cabin Ulrich had purchased just north of San Francisco. Tia has already begun the supplement for the change and she cannot believe how she feels. But there is something happening in their minds that they cannot figure out how to accomplish. How do 3 of them mate? What about Jimmy?
Again, I could not put the book down. It was a great to know how AJ and Mik got their Alpha-[...:]. I only read the Chanku part but once I finish the series, I will read the other stories.
This is a paranormal erotica anthology. If that's not your thing, stop reading.
There are 3 stories in this anthology: one short story related to Kate Douglas' Wolf Tales series. In that one, AJ and Mik (who are a male couple) find the missing Mary Ellen and end up her life mates. There's a pimp after her. He doesn't fare well.
Fantaisie by Noelle Mack involves a French noble and lion in a time-warp chateau with magical properties and a visiting hair stylist (hired to put beads in the lion's mane. Very imaginative with a hint of historical erotica mixed in.
Call of the Wild by Kathleen Dante is about a werewolf police officer and a woman on the way to seek out her family history who is endangered by a drunk driver. Eventually, she finds some of her heritage with the police officer after some very steamy sex scenes.
All three were pretty good, but like most erotica, the story takes a back seat to the sex scenes. If you want a good story as well, try Emma Holly.
I received a print copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.
How much do you love Tarzan on the cover? Big beastly muscle mass of a man. Yum. He totally fits the profile for all the men in this anthology. From the passionate Chanku men, to the sexy cop I was totally smitten. Fantaisie was a little iffy for me but the reason to love this book is Kate Douglas. The best writer I have ever read, her Chanku continue to possess and seduce me. I wish I could delve into her mind to find the root for talent because no matter if she is writing a full novel or short for an anthology she makes it work from beginning to end and always satisfies her readers. Call of the Wild is a teasing mix of cop fantasy with a wolfy bite that will more than entice fan girls.
Chanku are very, very, VERY hot shifters! Be warned, if same sex relationships bother you, stay away.
I loved them all but I think Chanku Fallen in SB2 is my favorite. These are keepers
Chanku series Wolf Tales Sexy Beast~Chanku Rising Wolf Tales II Wild Nights~~Camille's Dawn Wolf Tales III Sexy Beast II~~ Chanku Fallen Wolf Tales IV Sexy Beast III~~ Chanku Journey Wolf Tales V Sexy Beast IV~~Chanku Destiny Wolf Tales VI Sexy Beast V~~Chanku Wild Wolf Tales VII Sexy Beast VI~~Chanku Honor Wolf Tales VIII
This story has plenty of graphic G/G and M/M sexual exploits as well as threesomes and foursomes. There is nothing light about Kate Douglas' erotica, there is really nothing left to the imagination. If this is what you are seeking then you have found an entertaining series.
Mated pair AJ and Mik are sent to locate a missing female Chanku. Tia is a whore with no memory of her past. Her pimp pushes her too far one night and she sees her escape, stow away with AJ and Mik, she begins her journey to discovering her past and her Chanku identity.
This book was about 3 men who are very powerfull and suprisingly sensual. I picked this up off the shelf as a random book to read and let me tell you, if you have never read a romance novel you are in for a surprise. This book is filled with mature content with everything from sexual senarios to sex itself. Don't read the book if you can't handle it but say what you want i believe this book deserves 4 stars.
I love this story...Mik and AJ are use to it only being the two of them. They love their fellow pack mates but when it comes to that close Chanku bond it's been just them. That is until they meet Tala. She makes them both feel as though they've finally found a part that they never knew they were missing but Tala brings danger with her unbeknownst to them all.... Wonderful story and I'm happy I was able to read this one
I enjoyed Kate Douglas's novella, even though I apparently read it out of order! The other two were so-so, but not good enough to make me want to buy the other Sexy Beast books. Hopefully I won't miss the shorter Wolf Tale stories as I read the series.
I love the short story of Graeme & Deanna that Kathleen Dante wrote and am so glad she continued it in Sexy Beast VIII... Hope she continues their story along with Ash's and the other unmated cousins... Thanks Kathleen! Brenda:)
