The Western Front, 1915. It's been twenty years since Becky and Flynn first met, in the adventures recorded in the Sherlock and Lucy Mystery Series. Now they're fighting for England in the Great War. But they still have an incomparable ally in the great detective himself.
Becky is now a surgeon at a French field hospital near the western front. When a badly wounded man gazes up at her from his stretcher, Becky's heart races as she recognizes her former partner in investigation. Flynn is now a major, and barely conscious, but he's just as gritty and stubborn as he was when Becky knew him as one of Mr. Holmes's Irregulars. Becky must save him and then protect his wounds as he recovers. With Flynn, of course, quiet convalescence is not in the program. Especially when Mr. Holmes appears to ask for their help catching a German spy, and the bombs begin to drop.
Anna Elliott is an author of historical fiction and fantasy. She enjoys stories about strong women, and loves exploring the multitude of ways women can find their unique strengths. She was delighted to lend a hand with the Sherlock & Lucy series, and thrilled to continue a new spin-off series featuring Becky and Flynn. Her first series, the Twilight of Avalon trilogy, is a retelling of the Trystan & Isolde legend. She wrote her second series, The Pride & Prejudice Chronicles , chiefly to satisfy her own curiosity about what might have happened to Elizabeth Bennet, Mr. Darcy, and all the other wonderful cast of characters after the official end of Jane Austen’s classic work.
Another will written British 🏰 romantic family and friends relationships adventure thriller novel by Anna Elliott (The Becky and Flynn Mystery Series book one). Flynn is wounded on the front and transported to a hospital. Becky is a doctor at the hospital. Becky and Flynn join forces searching for spies operating in and around the hospital. Sherlock Holmes is operating in the espionage agent for the British 🏰 government. I would recommend this series and author to 👍 readers of mystery and espionage during WWI. Enjoy the adventure of reading 👓 or listening 🎶 to Alexa read books 📚. 2023 👒😤😇
Anna Elliott is one of my favorite authors with the Sherlock Holmes series. Happy reading in 2023 🌙
Enjoyed previous Sherlock and Lucy books. Imagine my satisfaction to begin another series as Becky and Flynn continue with intriguing stories as adults. Impressive story lines and realistic characters. "May I have more , please"
The new series jumps forward in time to WW1 when Becky has become a doctor and Flynn a major in the army. They find each other whenFlynn is brought to a field hospital injured where BecKy is one of the doctors. A German prisoner is murdered and there appear to be spies in the hospital. This was a fun read and I look forward to reading the next book in the series
The Becky and Flynn Mystery Series is a spinoff from the Sherlock Holmes and Lucy James Mystery series that is now 31 books strong. Fans of Sherlock and Lucy know that Becky Kelly is the sister of Lucy's husband Jack Kelly, a Scotland Yard detective. And, of course, Flynn is the leader of Holmes' Baker Street Irregulars. Flynn and Becky have been friends since she was nine and he was ten. The bright, curious, and mischievous Becky is now a fully qualified surgeon, and Flynn, always a leader, is a Major in the British Army. WWI is raging, and Flynn ends up on Becky's operating table in the north of France. Thus, the scene is set for their adventures together as adults.
Although age appropriate for readers age 8 to 108 (I will admit that the lower age limit is based on the fact that I was reading such novels at that age), Anna Elliott has managed to convey the horrors of WWI both from the perspective of the soldier experiencing them and the doctor treating the mangled wounded. The history rings true in much the same way Conan Doyle was able to convey the streets of London in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The combination of great story telling with historical truth makes for a compelling read no matter what your age.
Since I've read the entire Sherlock Holmes and Lucy James Mystery series, I would certainly encourage others to read them before tackling Flynn and Becky. The background will add to overall enjoyment of this new series and provide hours of reading enjoyment.
I don't do book reviews like you keep seeing, as I find that some give too much of the plot away and I personally hate that, as it makes the book not worth reading. I much prefer to take the authors back cover write up as a review as it can either intrigue you enough to read the book of provide you enough information to make you decide that the book is not for you. My review rules are: The more stars, the more I liked it. If there are too many typos or errors the less stars I give If the storyline or plot is poor or contains too many errors, the characters are too weak, the ending lacking something, then the less stars I give. Simple, uncomplicated and to the point without giving anything away. Some of the books I read have been given to me by the author as a pre-release copy and this does not bias my reviews in any way.
More mystery, more intrigue, more romance, more of the delightful characters from the Sherlock and Lucy series.
Whether you have read the S and L series or not, the adventures of Becky and Flynn are compelling and entertaining. The grownup versions are just as mischievous as their younger selves, with an added touch of developing romance. The setting of the early stages of WWI is a poignant reminder of that tragic era and gives a maturity to the youthful characters. Hopefully, this is just the beginning for Becky and Flynn as they continue to work with Sherlock Holmes, struggle with the devastation of war and the depth of their feelings for each other.
An interesting and entertaining read. Didn't realize it was a spin-off series by the same author. As a first book in the series, it held my attention from the beginning. The characters were very likable and written well. The storyline was intriguing especially after Sherlock Holmes put in an appearance on the scene. I think I'm going to enjoy this series and it has prompted me to read the series this one branched off from, as the author it new to me and I love a good mystery, especially when there are male and female partners investigating in the mix. This first book was a really good read. Looking forward to more adventures with Becky and Flynn.
A wonderful spin-off the Sherlock and Lucy series!
Writing about Becky and Flynn at a later stage was great idea. I enjoyed seeing their characters carried on as adults tremendously. The wartime setting in WWI made it quite interesting and suspenseful. (I read it in one day to see how it would play out as quickly as possible!) The story was very well plotted, and the writing was excellent. (Exactly what I had hoped for from Anna Elliott). If you are a fan of her work, this will definitely be one you won’t want to miss). Happily, there are several more in this series. I look forward to reading all of them! Highly recommended.
Hey, I really enjoyed this! The characters I've come to enjoy in the past year are now older, but still a lot of fun! It's1915, and WWI rages across Europe. This story, and probably the upcoming series, focuses on Becky and Flynn from the Sherlock Holmes and Lucy James stories. They still work well together, their conversation hilarious, but in the midst of war, it's interesting to see how they'll tackle the next set of challenges with Mr. Holmes. I recommend this book!
I am a huge fan of Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes adventures. I have also read many other author's version of Holmes (e.g Sherlock and Lucy). This book was good, just not great. The plot was very well conceived and using WWI as a backdrop was a good touch. I also enjoyed the two character's interactions. What did not work was the ending. It just stopped with no real resolution (and I feel all Holmes' stories have a conclusion/resolution). That is a disappointment. A 4.0 out of 5 rating.
This is a new approach to tales based on Conan Doyle's characters. In the midst of World War I, two of the Baker Street Irregulars meet at a hospital in France. Becky, now a surgeon, treats Flynn, who has risen through the ranks of Major. As stunned as they are by their chance meeting, they are even more surprised to find their o!d mentor asking to help them root out a traitor.
The characters remain true to Doyle, and their growing attraction must be weighed against their duty. This first mystery in the series wanting morr.
This was a captivating look at Becky and Flynn. I enjoyed following these characters as they grew up on the streets then became one of Sherlock's "irregulars". This touched my heart to see them as they grew, because I am invested in their characters. I enjoyed a backstory and getting to know the characters more deeply. Their own spy adventure was suspenseful. Sherlock's cameo was impressive, and the cherry on the sundae of information. The reveal of the spy was a total shock!!! I can never get enough of Holmes and crew.
A new series written by Anna Elliott, who is the author of Sherlock Holmes and Lucy James Mystery series . Becky and Flynn , who are now adults, meet again in field hospital in war-torn France during World War I. Becky is a doctor who operated on wounded soldier Flynn. Sherlock contacts them to investigate a German spy ring operating in the front lines of the Allied forces. Great start to the new series, let the games begin.
Becky and Flynn are grown up and World war has spread its grip everywhere. Flynn has been wounded in the trenches in France and ended up in the hospital where Becky is a surgeon. Still friends, they find a mystery amongst the patients, and some romance flutters about, too. Unique and engaging.
Guarded realm is a a brief, enjoyable and well written cozy mystery, set in the Great War (ww 1) As a pair of childhood friends meet again in a military hospital. Characters are sympathetic and believable. Historic setting is accurate. A nice confection of a novel. I believe I will have another, thank you, Ms Elliott. David Watson, author of Aero Rangers series.
One great read that I couldn't put down until I finished it at one in the morning. I recommend it to all Sherlock and Lucy fans. I am waiting for the next one to come out. Make it soon. Thanks
Becky and Flynn all grown up and fighting for Britain in France during WWI. They're busy solving a murder mystery, dodging enemy bombs, and working at the uncovering of a German spy ring. Which leaves another mystery not even considered: What is Major Flynn's first name?
One of the best mysteries I have ready to date. Becky and Flynn are great characters and the budding romance and suspense of the situation add together brilliantly. Looking forward to the next one.
Liked the entire book absolutely wonderful. Sincerely look forward to more in the series. Definitely a book I would we intend to anyone like myself who is a great can of Holmes and all his "family"
This is the beginning of an arc, one murderer is uncovered but the bigger questions have yet to be answered. As long as you don't mind cliffhangers this was a very enjoyable read. Becky and Flynn are back and all grown up.
The Western Front, 1915. Dr Becky Kelly and Major Flynn, who is recovering from his wounds, are confronted by a disguised Sherlock Holmes. He needs their help to catch a German Spy. An entertaining and well-written historical mystery with its likeable main characters. A good start to a new series.
For a spun off of a spin off, I was taken by how mesmerising the plot thickened, twisted and followed a logical path with no subplots to confuse matters.
There were, as expected underlining plots to carry over bur was pleased with this one.
