Starting with motte and bailey fortifications and ending with the structures we are most familiar with today, this book covers them all in simple, concise terms with little confusion. The illustrations are beautiful and detailed with explanations for every one. Included in the back is also a glossary and index for easy reference.
I think this is a great book for kids to learn the basics of castles and medieval history. Even as a basic reference for writers, this book can answer quick questions in regard to structure, servants, even the building of a castle or fortification.
OK I know these are supposed to be kid books but they are awesome! Great pictures and just enough text to make you want to learn more. Great choices for a beginning history reader or to start an older reader out in a new area. Highly recommended
The history of castles in Europe. I found it quite interesting and really liked the cut-away illustrations so you could see everything that went on inside.
