A young mother just starting her life over after a bad divorce is found murdered in the Los Angeles River. The prime suspects are her ex-husband, a member of a ruthless motorcycle gang, and a new boyfriend, a surfer with a mysterious past. It’s up to Detective Kaitlyn Carr to find out who did it.
Back in Big Bear Lake, Kaitlyn’s sister’s disappearance becomes a cold case and and her friend’s murder goes unsolved. But Kaitlyn refuses to stop looking for her little sister.
The town where she grew up is full of secrets and Kaitlyn must confront what really happened to her father in order to find her sister.
Will Kaitlyn be able to face the truth about her family’s past or will her sister remain lost forever?
This is the LAST and FINAL book focusing on Kaitlyn’s sister’s disappearance.
This suspenseful thriller is perfect for fans of James Patterson, Leslie Wolfe, Lisa Regan, L. T. Vargus and Karin Slaughter. It has mystery, angst, a bit of romance and family drama.
Kate Gable loves a good mystery that is full of suspense. She grew up devouring psychological thrillers and crime novels as well as movies, tv shows and true crime.
Her favorite stories are the ones that are centered on families with lots of secrets and lies as well as many twists and turns. Her novels have elements of psychological suspense, thriller, mystery and romance.
Kate Gable lives in Southern California with her husband, son, a dog and a cat. She has spent more than twenty years in this area and finds inspiration from its cities, canyons, deserts, and small mountain towns.
The author had a good idea for the series premise yet the writing is awful. She would forget details from one book to the next about main characters. In Book 4 she mixed up the name of her boss & the Captain in Big Bear in one chapter. I didn’t look to see if these were self-published. If they weren’t, then the publisher should be out of business for doing such a poor job of editing. The writing was also very choppy with stilted dialogue that did not flow and at times unbelievable.
I can’t believe I made it through all 5 books. 👎🏻 The writing is atrocious. She contradicts herself. Characters get confused. There is little substance to her interrogations yet she solves cases. But we finally know what happened to Violet.
It took five books for Detective Kaitlyn Carr's sister to be rescued but it was mostly because the author remembers halfway into the book about the original story plot.
You might think that at this point of the series the author would stop making the same mistakes which didn't happen. She keeps mixing details, confusing characters, and adding so much extra stuff that ruins an already bad story.
The detective work is horrible; they do the bare minimum of the job and somehow can solve cases. Kaitlyn can never decide 100% what she wants but she certainly wastes no time doing it for others.
Don't even think about trying the audiobook, it's the worst narrator ever. Total waste of money.
Kaitlyn Carr is still investigating her sisters disappearance when a young mother is found murdered. Kaitlyn has two prime suspects. First her ex husband a member of a notorious biker gang and second her new love. Kaitlyn works hard to solve the case and returns to her home town determined to find her sister. Will she finally find her?
Detective Kaitlyn Carr is still trying to find her sister and make sure that case doesn’t stop but she’s also dealing with a new case. I enjoyed the time that was spent on her Luke cause Kaitlyn is consumed by her job and her determination to find her sister so it hooks you.
It's a good book it doesnt just focus on the main character it gives you backgrounds and details into others lives. Dragged on a little bit but reasonable.
I have thoroughly enjoyed this series by Kate Gable. We follow an LAPD female detective (woot woot for strong female leads right!) Through many of her own cases in LA as well as through the disappearance of her teenage sister in Big Bear.
Detective Kaitlyn Carr spends her time traveling back and forth running herself ragged. I feel like this book gave us the jump of character development that was so desperately needed. Det. Carr finally starts taking care of herself better- putting herself first, digging into her own trauma and life, and really just motivates and inspires us all to learn ourselves and care for ourselves.
I am extremely grateful for the wrap up ending because I needed it after 5.5 books haha. Thank you.

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes detective stories and series. I didn't know if was part of a series so unfortunately I started at Book 2 and 3. Then when I found out, I got the entire collection. Although I had already read ahead, it was easy to go back and read the past.
Each book has its own stories with Detective Carr and her missing sister being the one constant throughout. If the end of each story didn't leave with a cliffhanger, they could be read individually. I, however, could not stop reading. And as so often happens when I finish an enjoyable book, I am sad. I may be a Kate Gable follower from here forward.
Only reason I read this is to finally find out what happened to Kaitlyn's sister Violet. She disappeared books ago and we finally get a resolution. Kaitlyn actually finds her by interviewing a couple Violet's friends and getting info no one else has or has investigated (typical).
The other story is of a young mom divorced from a motorcycle gang member found dead. She has just met someone new and they have a few dates-although the dialogue between them is really unbelievable. So was it the Ex, the new boyfriend, the Ex's gang or the oh so nasty family of the Ex?
I loved the book and the series. The four stars is because I do not like for authors to string you along for five books to learn the final outcome. Each book has a stand alone story, but the main story drags through five books. The characters are great and otherwise I loved the book(s). So yes, I took the bait and continued to buy the next book. Kate, you win this round.... But not another. 😉
5 Book Series that could have easily been reduced into ONE
So many unnecessary words wasted in order to find the story buried within these 5 Books. The base story is good, but totally lost in so many useless pages. Great disappointment
And… the plot thickens!! Get ready to be engaged in a story like no other. It’s intense! It’s an emotional turmoil! It’s full of heartache! GIRL FORGOTTEN is the twist worthy conclusion of Detective Kaitlyn Carr’s mystery in the disappearance of her sister, Violet, and it does not disappoint. This page turner is suspenseful, fast moving with lots of twists and turns, and it will keep you on the edge of your seat from the beginning to the end. The way Kate Gable shares the past into the present story line is seamless. This entire book had me captivated from the first page and no amount of guessing could have prepared me for what transpired. When Kaitlyn’s sister’s investigation starts to become a cold case, Kaitlyn refuses to give up the case. Then Kaitlyn has a murder case involving a young mother to solve. Who could have killed this young mother—so many questions and few answers? But with time running out, Kaitlyn must wade through the web of lies in hope that she will find the truth before the both cases goes cold. This story is as much about the characters as well as the disappearances, murder, and suspects. We get to see how Kaitlyn’s mind works, and how she goes about taking the clues to solve her cases. Not everything is fun and games, a lot of personal issues, and family dysfunctions come to the fore. This book is gripping, suspenseful, and with unpredictable detective work. There were plenty of surprises, and Kate Gable kept me on my toes. I was thoroughly engrossed in this book and hated to put it down. Kate Gable has an ability to make you feel as if you were right there watching the events unfold. I highly recommend this book.
Terrible writing in this whole series. So many mistakes, seems like it wasn't edited (names misspelled like Kathryn was later changed to Catherine). So many things made no sense, so many contradictions. And the way the kids spoke and thought drove me crazy because no 13 year old is like that. But I really wanted to know what happened to Violet. Now that I know I won't be continuing with this series or author. I did enjoy that a case was solved in each book and then there was the bigger mystery of Violet, but it could have been written and edited much better. I very rarely rate books less than three stars.
The beginning of the series was good, but then it just got so drawn out, predictable, and boring. There was character development that was contradicted at times, and there was unnecessary immaturity that became irritating. The writing itself was juvenile with grammatical errors and the author constantly repeating themselves as if you haven't read the books before this one. A lot of unnecessary sentences. The ending got exciting, but was never really talked about. No real conversation between her and her sister or between her and Luke after he blew off her finding out about the cabin. It was just cobbled together at the end.

When I first got this book, I had only gotten it because Facebook kept offering it to me for free. I decided to read the first book and just it go after that. Boy was I wrong.. I read the whole story, the whole series.. it was an awesome story .. if you get a chance to read it , do it.. you won't be disappointed.. I read the whole story. The whole series.. it was that good..
This is the last book in the series, and finally, you will find out more about Kaitlyn‘s sister. I liked the plot and over time got used to the first person narrator. Best of all, I did not really see the end coming the way it did. I would have liked some more clues, and maybe they were there and I just did not see them, but that’s fine, since it also helped keep suspense in the story. 5 out of 5 stars.
Edit once finished with series: DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. HORRIBLE ENDING FOR FINDING VIOLET. The fact that these books went to print is crazy to me. I trucked through all 5 to find out what happened to violet. The author couldn’t even get the killer right. On one page she said it’s someone’s dad, the next page it is the person and not their dad. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE. A waste of time a money.
I accidentally stumbled on this book. My opinion is full of juxtaposition. I think the story itself was good. However, to me, the writing felt very basic and at a lower level than what I am used to. It ended abruptly and cheesily. I would have given it more stars if it weren't for the narrator.. boy oh boy, was it bad. It honestly felt like an AI voice, not a human. The inflections and tones were all off, and even easy words were mispronounced. Painful.
This was a very satisfying conclusion to a great series. When I saw the title I was afraid Violet was going go be the girl firgotten. I was very satisfied with the conclusion of both cases worked in this conclusion. Maybe we will see Kaitlyn and Luke again, perhaps teamed JP solving cases together as PIs or something.
I loved the author so I decided to read her mystery series. Reading the first book of this series grabbed my attention immediately! I was sold ~ read the first book in one sitting. This series is outstanding and I recommend it to everyone. A 5⭐️ rating.
This is the first time I've bought every next book in a series. I just couldn't not find out what happened next. Author does an amazing job of keeping you reeled in without making you bored. Definitely recommend hthis series and will definitely ve reading anything else she writes!
I always say “save best for last”! Loved the whole series of Kaitlyn Carr Detective Mysteries! Kate Gable found cases for Kaitlyn Carr to solve using her expert detective skills, entwine the character’s personal life and her friendships, with just enough romance and drama to keep you turning the pages through the whole series!
5 stars for Girl Forgotten: A Kaitlyn Carr Mystery Book 5. Another investigation for Kaitlyn involving a motorcycle gang in LA. Along with this there is also the case of her missing sister in Big Bear. Life is fast but time seems to be running for her sister. Can Kaitlyn handle all of this stress? Read on, you'll be glad you did.
This is a series about a female detective from LAPD. Her 13 yo sister is kidnapped. She tries to join in the investigation to find her and also continue her job in LA. At times she seems very detached from her sisters case. The series has a tortuous path but an unforseen end.
Needed to find out what happened to Violet. Now that I know I can stop!! Writing was so bad !! One example.-he whispered under his breath it was barely legible!! Cringe!! And there are more examples !! Just kept going to see how Violet made out. Can’t do any more!
OH MY GOODNESS!!!! I cannot believe how this book ended. I am totally shocked and happy. This book had me emotions going all over the place. I thought I knew how this book was going to end and then I kept on reading and was hit with the biggest surprise that I was so shocked to read. I loved this book. I would recommend this book and series to anyone!!
Story started out good but then slowly ' slowed' down. Things began to feel stretched, as though more to fill space. Then, the ending, expected and not very original. This series could have been shortened to a max of two books and been well done.
