Bewitched by Chocolate #7

Salted Caramel Sorcery

Rate this book
The autumn equinox is here, and Caitlyn Le Fey is excited by the upcoming masquerade ball to celebrate the festival of Mabon. Not only is it a chance to dress up in glamorous costumes, but—with the Widow Mags catering—the villagers might finally put their prejudices aside and appreciate the delicious treats from her grandmother's chocolate shop. What's more, with the dreamy music and romantic dancing, Caitlyn might even get her first kiss with the dashing Lord James Fitzroy! But on the night of the ball, Caitlyn barely has time to sample the decadent caramel fountain, or help her old vampire uncle search for his missing fangs, before a guest is brutally murdered. Was he killed by witchcraft? Who was the mysterious woman seen following him? And why did he lie about his identity?

Many at the ball might have wanted him dead, from a jealous ex-lover to an old foe seeking revenge, but to Caitlyn's horror, it's her cousin Pomona who becomes the top suspect. Although Pomona has been acting strangely and showing a disturbing interest in black magic, ever since she was given a cursed diamond, Caitlyn refuses to believe that her pretty, bubbly cousin could be capable of murder! With the help of her quirky witch family, a few chocolate spells, and a pony with a sweet tooth, Caitlyn is soon close to finding the real killer. But solving the mystery could also mean facing a shocking truth about her own family and the secrets of her past...

More magic with Caitlin Le Fey and her family at the chocolate shop. Cousin Pomona's black diamond is causing all sorts of trouble and Evie is still dabbling in magic she is not trained to use. This time she buys an illusion spell from an unreliable source and uses it on herself. You can guess what might happen!

There is a murder and Pomona is the main suspect so of course Caitlin has to investigate and gets herself into trouble with the police and with almost boyfriend James. Just as I was getting tired of James and Caitlyn's juvenile approach to forming relationships there was a cute finish to the book. Plus don't forget the vampire who plays a huge role as a very small bat.

Easy, entertaining reading, ideal for whiling away a few hours on a long plane ride as I did!

a very interesting series.

This book opens with a Mahon (equinox party) and the mayhem that ensues brings more questions than answers. It's more of a gateway to the next story but gives you a bit more and is more about Kaitlin and Pomona. I think I wasn't so much in the mood for this story when I read it, but that doesn't mean is wasn't good.

I received a free copy of this book from the author and voluntarily reviewed it.

I've been enjoying HY Hanna's books, but after enjoying book 6 less I was a bit hesitant to start this one. Luckily I can say this was a great read in this series. There's a lot going on besides the murder and I like how we see a bit more of the overarching plot lines and learn new things. It was quite the exciting read and I was curious to see how everything got resolved.

This book starts with the build up for a Mabon autumn festival at the manor. There are some weird things going on, with how a side character related to last book's dies in the hospital without discernible reason and Pomona is acting strangely. Then at the festival there's another murder, when hints are found that Pomona might've done it, Caitlyn tries to cover for her cousin as she knows she couldn't have murdered this man. Then there is Caitlyn's love life troubles a her relationship with James doesn't always go smoothly. As well as more paranormal stuff that's going and villager's who don't like the Widow Mags. Caitlyn learns a few new things about her her mother as well. This book was chuck full with plot threads and there was a lot going on, all nicely blended together in an exciting story.

The mystery in this one felt a bit less solid than some of them, but that wasn't a big problem for me as there's so much else going on. I liked how it was unclear who would've done it and it isn't clear what the motive was either. It was interesting to see how things ended related to the mystery and how there are still more questions remaining. I am curious to see how those get resolved in future books.

While I enjoy these books, there are some things I struggle with. Like the way Caitlyn acts at times. One moment she is arguing with James about the mystery then the next she's using James word to convince the detective to look the other way. Or how she kept trying to convince herself things Pomona did were just a coincidence instead of trust her own judgement. Then there is the way how she tries to solve some dangerous black magic by herself instead of confiding in other more experienced witches. Or how she hides evidence.

On the other hand I do like how she's loyal to those she cares about and how she apologizes to James later. I do like how James is shown in a new light now that they have a romance and how he isn't as perfect as he first seemed and has his own flaws. It makes him feel more human, although at the same time I was annoyed at the way they communicated and hid things from the other in this book.

I liked how heavy on the paranormal this book was. The murder might have something to do with paranormal means or motives. There is some magical things going on with Pomona and there is some we learn about the Mabon festival, poppet dolls and more. I felt like the paranormal aspect of this series got expended upon in this book, although I still have a lot of questions as at times it's unclear what is and isn't possible magic wise.

To summarize: This was an exciting read in this series. I liked how there's a lot going on in this book and I liked reading this book and seeing how everything pans out. The murder mystery was an interesting one where it's unclear who did it and why, I liked the way the mystery got concluded and how there are still questions left over. It felt that this book focused a bit more on some overarching plot lines and a few things got resolved or improved as well. I do have some troubles sometimes with Caitlyn's behavior and in other scenes I like how loyal she is to those she cares about or when the honestly talks to people. It was interesting to see how Caitlyn's and James romance develops, it was interesting to see how James isn't as perfect as he seems, although I was a bit annoyed how they got in a fight and didn't see each other's point of view. I enjoyed this book and am curious to see what happens next in this series!

Salted Caramel Sorcery Earns 5+/5 Caramel Fountains…Engaging and Clever!

Caitlyn Le Fey is meticulously focused on creating a caramel sauce worthy to be the centerpiece at Lord James Fitzroy’s Mabon Ball. But, her efforts are disrupted when Pomona, her American sort-of cousin, shows up critical of Caitlyn’s lack of attention to her costume for the ball. During the debate, Pomona reveals her new self; she can perform magic. But, it’s not the helpful and healing magic that Caitlyn’s grandmother and aunt practice. Pomie uses a much darker version taking pleasure in casting pain on a bunch of ants setting up on some spilled caramel. Caitlyn knew Pomona was closely associating with Thane Blackmort, the enigmatic billionaire, and showing signs of darkness, but doing magic and for evil? That’s disturbing. Could it have anything to do with the black jewel she wears around her neck? What is Blackmort’s game plan as he tries to gain control of a key piece of Fitzroy’s estate? It gets worse, when at the ball, Pomie shows up with the non-gratis Blackmort as her date. Caitlyn is busy spurning the advances of the pushy Daniel Tremaine who seems oddly interested in Lord Fitzroy’s late father’s collection of occult objects. So why does Tremaine end up in a room closed to the public empaled by one of the occult objects? Will Caitlyn turn in a piece of costume found in the room that may implicate someone close to her? Will Lord Fitzroy ever make a move on Caitlyn or will their “alone” moments continue to be interrupted?

After almost two years, H.Y. Hanna has brought an exciting new predicament for Caitlyn and the residents of Tillyhenge in the seventh book of her Bewitched by Chocolate series. We left Caitlyn continuing to worry about her family, her secret, her budding, complicated relationship with Lord Fitzroy, and her unfortunate luck finding herself entwined in mayhem and murder. However, it seems not much has change for Caitlyn. Hanna has developed an exciting new challenge with her dear cousin Pomona crossing over to the darkside. It was exciting to see a bit more magic beyond the chocolate creations with dark magic, glamour spells, poppets, and a murder with details the local CID struggles to explain. A small, yet vocal, group of villagers turn vigilante, expertly written to make me feel the anger, the anguish, and the angst, cause more than just an annoyance which did well to illustrate prejudice and the results of misinformation. Ok, it’s witches they protest, but you can’t deny a contemporary connection. I am very invested in the series and the characters, so it was great to see Evie, Caitlyn’s blood cousin, get a more important role in the drama to free Pomona and having a personal revelation that shows her growth and maturity. There is a shocking revelation and a bit of a cliffhanger to contend with, but what a great read! If you’re an animal lover, you love the scenes with Bran, the drool-challenged mastiff, and his little buddy Nibs, the mischievous black cat; if you love vampires, you’ll find Viktor, the six-centuries-old vampire who loves fruit, toffee apples, and has trouble holding on to his teeth, a real hoot; and if you’re a “googler” like me, you’ll find the fascinating details and insights into apples and poppets well worth a search!

Disclosure: I received an ARC from H.Y. Hanna, the author. My review is voluntary with honest insights and comments.

I'm glad that some of the subplots were resolved in this installment and am looking forward to more Caitlyn and James. However, for the readers who, like me, have a low tolerance for people continuing to behave stupidly, this book may or may not make you growl a little. I certainly did when Caitlyn made some foolish decisions (mostly due to her insecurities) yet again. The cliffhanger-y ending ensured that there will be another installment or few down the road and that's a nice thought too. So overall, I enjoyed this one.

This book was much better than the last one. Caitlyn is coming out of her shell. I'm enjoying seeing her relationship with James Fitzroy grow. I'm also glad Pomona is back to her normal self. I hope there are many more of this series.

Salted Caramel Sorcery by H.Y. Hanna is the 7th book in the Bewitched by Chocolate series. A masquerade ball to celebrate the festival of Mabon at Huntington manor sees the murder of an obnoxious guest by possibly supernatural means. A superb mystery although the solution is rather mysterious and unresolved. I enjoyed learning more about the traditions associated with witchcraft and I loved the chocolate theme and descriptions of the chocolate foods. An intriguing and entertaining mystery.

Caitlyn is enjoying her time in the village and is working on enhancing her chocolate and sweet making skills and she and the widow Mags get to show off their skills at a ball thrown by Lord James. She is a bit hesitant about wanting to go and dress up but her cousin Pomona helps her to find a great costume and she is actually enjoying herself until there is drama. First some townspeople show up protesting the ball because it is celebrating Mabon which James thinks more of a celebration of Autumn, but others want to tie it to witchcraft. Then a guest is found murdered and Pomona becomes the main suspect. Caitlyn can't believe her cousin would do it, but then again she has been trying out some black magic and has not really been like her old self.

A very enjoyable read that would not be complete without Victor losing his fangs and Nibs and Bran getting into trouble. Love this series and would love to try some of the sweets that they make.

I totally missed when this book came out so once I saw it, I had to listen to it immediately. It is a good book! BUT...hardly any Nibs! The one time that Caitlin was trying to figure out what's going on with Nibs, she gets interrupted and it's just not picked up again. So disappointing!

Like I said, though, the book is good! The mystery was good although now that I think about it, almost every man Caitlin meets tries to flirt with her, so that's a bit lol considering how often she talks about how nobody likes her because of her wide hips. *sigh*

Pomona is a total b in this one but like not, completely. I mean, she is mean but she also calls out Caitlin on her sanctimonious attitude towards using magic. The scene with the ants was creepy though.

Caitlin is not completely ignorant in this book but she does make some stupid decisions. For example, if I lived in a small town where everyone believed I was a witch, when someone throws a stone through my shop's window late at night, I would NOT go OUTSIDE of the shop to confront whoever did it. Like WTF? I guess I'm too paranoid about shit like that. I would quietly make sure that the inner door is closed and locked and CALL THE POLICE. I would then try to get Nibs in his carrier (having treats on hand would help) and then leave from the back of the cottage and start heading towards the manor. I mean, she walked at night through the woods once before so it's not like it would be the first time. I would then call Aunt Bertha and explain the situation once I've arrived at the manor. Then, just maybe, the place wouldn't have been trashed and Caitlin wouldn't have been assaulted at all! I understand that Pomona needed to showcase her magical skills and how "evil and mean" she was now, but come on, it was a dumb decision. It would have been more reasonable if they crossed paths and Pomona insisted on them turning back. Then it would be Caitlin did it due to pressure from Pomona. Still a dumb decision, but not completely her fault. But the actual event was a catastrophe! It was very annoying.

Anyway, the actual mystery was good. The plot twist was a fun surprise and I like that there was a cliffhanger so I hope Caitlin learns more about her mother in the next book. I took away one star because of the disastrous mob scene and because there's hardly anything about Nibs! The thing with Pomona being bewitched or bonded also seemed a little rushed and wasn't really explained. I'm glad Evie's magic abilities are improving though, lol. Overall, great book!

OMG, I forgot about Caitlin hiding evidence! Another dumbass decision! Okay fine, she's trying to cover for Pomona so she hides the rubber snake under Bran's bed but to then come back for it? It is just comical! OBVIOUSLY SHE IS GOING TO GET CAUGHT! I would've just left it there and if I was really curious, just say, "omg look at what Bran hid under his bed as a toy!" and leave it at that. But of course, she needs to be caught so that she and James can argue. Their relationship at this point is frustrating. Caitlin is so shy that it basically paralyzes her whenever James comes within 2 feet of her. But then, she wonders why he doesn't hug her or kiss her or whatever. It's just so surprising how much of a "prude" (as Pomona calls her) she is, considering she grew up with Pomona as her sister. Sometimes I feel like she is 16 or 18. Honestly, she might be that age, I can't remember. If anything, maybe 22 or 23. But definitely not older than that. She acts like she's older, maybe 26 or 27, in her mannerisms, but her naivety and dumb decisions makes me feel like she's 18, lol. Anyway, I remembered this little gem so I had to take it down one more notch. Hopefully the next book will be better!

SALTED CARAMEL SORCERY, the 7th installment in the Bewitched by Chocolate Mystery Series, comes to readers after an almost two year hiatus since the publication of 2019’s DOUBLE, DOUBLE, TOIL AND TRUFFLE. With a murder to solve, villagers turned vigilantes, romance, and darker magic at play, it is well worth the wait.

This tale begins with Caitlyn and her grandmother Widow Mags preparing for Lord James Fitzroy’s Mabor (harvest) Ball. What appears to be a roaring success turns sinister when a man is murdered during the festivities, and evidence at the scene suggests that Caitlyn’s cousin Pomona might have had something to do with it. Pomona has been acting strange for a while, but now she is downright cruel and seems to have acquired dark magical skills. Caitlyn does all that she can to get to the bottom of the mystery, which seems related to James’s father’s occult collection and secret government work, in order to clear her cousin’s name all while dealing with angry villagers set on ruining Widow Mags's reputation and business and her frustrating budding relationship with James.

I always enjoy my time with Caitlyn. Though a bit naïve and still painfully insecure, she is intelligent and loyal to a fault. This loyalty causes her to give Pomona too much benefit of the doubt within this story. Pomona is my least favorite character of the series, and here she is so downright ugly and callous that I cannot stand her. She is central to this story, though, and I think her situation allows Caitlyn and her cousin Evie to shine. Evie takes on a bigger role this time, and I love her. She is so earnest, but her youth and self-doubt get in her way, sometimes with comic results. My favorite character is always Viktor the centuries-old vampire with a penchant for fruit and a propensity for losing his false tooth fangs. James is more likable than ever here, but some of his actions and thoughts remove the shine of perfection. I appreciate this touch of reality, and it makes him more relatable and human. His and Caitlyn’s romance is moving so slowly that it is becoming a sore spot for me – please move forward or just settle on friendship.

The mystery of Daniel Tremaine’s murder becomes secondary to the problems with Pomona and the villagers. The village residents’ disdain for and prejudice against Widow Mags is comparable to some of our own social justice issues we face today. It is a reminder that just because someone is different, it does not make them any less valuable. There are several suspects and motives, but the murder is ambiguously solved with a bit of a cliffhanger ending so I cannot wait for the next installment, hoping it provides some answers.

SALTED CARAMEL SORCERY is a fun read, and I recommend it to any cozy mystery reader who enjoys a heavy paranormal presence.

I really enjoyed this book. If like me and you have been here from the start then you will know well Caitlyn's cousin Pomona and the strangeness surrounding her and her latest boyfriend. Well the wait is over in this fun and engaging mystery as we learn a lot more about what is going on. Don't worry if this is your first adventure into the wonderful chocolate shop world because the author creates a story that is easy to follow along with and you soon get sucked in. The mystery was good and I never saw the ending coming but I will certainly be looking out for the next book to find what's going to happen next. It's the amazing characters that make this book (and in fact the whole series) so magical. Normally I have a favourite character but with this series of is really hard to choose which I like best from the vampire fruit bat who is always losing his teeth to the small mischievous black cat that gets under everybody feet to the shy cousin's who's spells never turn out right and of course not forgetting Caitlyn herself. All are a lot of fun and a great way to spend a few hours getting lost in there weird and wonderful world of mystery, love, friendship, family and even magic is possible.
Lord James Fitzroy is hosting the autumn equinoxs masquerade ball at the manor and the whole village is invited. Caitlyn and The widow Mags are providing the food as the theme is all based around chocolate delights. Caitlyn thought the worse thing that could happen was she would make a fool of her self in front of everybody or even worse in front of James by spill chocolate down her dress. But with her young cousin casting spells so she would get noticed, her elderly vampire uncle asking every guest of they have seen his fangs and the gossipy villagers staging a protest over the party, her dress is the least of her problems. Then she stumbles over a body in the attic and a part of her cousins costume near the body and everything comes to a sad and early end. Caitlyn knows Pomona is innocent but with her cousin acting so strange lately she fears she will be blamed for the murder and hides the evidence. Can she find the real killer before some points the finger at Pomona? The more the police investigate the more it looks like witch craft was involved and with the villagers already fearful of the widow Mags it isn't going to take much for tempers to ignite! But who will get burned?

Another fun addition to a series that has mystery, murder, magic, paranormal excitement, lots of laughs and a little romance! Grandma, the Widow Mags is catering the huge costume party at Lord Fitzroy's estate to continue the tradition of the Mabon Ball, honoring the fall basically. And will Caitlyn get her first kiss from the Lord? Things were going smoothly and Mags culinary expertise was lauded by the participants. Caitlyn Le Fey was helping her grandma make the smooth caramel sauce when her cousin Pomona interrupted her concentration. She wanted to know what Caitlyn was going to wear to the masquerade ball. Being distracted by Pomona, she burned the caramel and had to clean the pot before it stuck, but on the table there was a few drops and ants started to climb the hot pot and die in the hot water and Pomona watched with glee. This scared Caitlyn and she was worried that Pomona was acting too strange, not her usual self something was wrong with her cousin or was she imagining things. There were some very strange guests, once in particular, Daniel Tremaine, was interested in Lord Fitroy's special gallery. Who is he really? And why did Pomona come to the party with Thane Blackmort when he and Lord Fitroy are definitely not friends since Blackmort wants to develop part of the Fitzroy estate and there are hints that he is involved with black magic! When there is a murder and Daniel Tremaine is found dead in the gallery, things went from bad to worse. There were many suspects, but Pomona ended up being suspect number one. Caitlyn can't believe her cousin would murder anyone, even though she was acting strange. Then while Caitlyn leaves to go back to the chocolate shop she is attacked by a group of vigilantes that break the window to the store and then they get into the store and start trashing it and just as they were going to attack Caitlyn, Pomona comes to her rescue and some very strange things happen. I love this series and you will too. Once I began this book, I just couldn't put it down and the end...Wow! I can't wait to see what happens next. I received and ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

Lord James Fitzroy is hosting a special festival for the people of Tillyhenge. It is the festival of Mabon, which celebrates the autumn equinox. Caitlyn Le Fey is looking forward to the Masquerade Ball. Pomona is dressed for the ball as Medusa with a wig made of rubber snakes. Pomona is with Thane Blackmort and Caitlyn is concerned for her cousin. Caitlyn also hopes that with her grandmother, Widow Mags, catering the event, some of the villager's animosity would be soothed. One of the participants, Daniel Tremaine, is especially interested in the Portrait Gallery, where James' father kept many occult items. Daniel also seems to be making passes at every woman at the party and some of his comments would be considered crude at best.

Toward the end of the evening, Caitlyn goes looking for Pomona and is told by a very drunk, Mr. Bates, that he saw her walking up the stairs at the back of the manor. One of the rooms at the top of the stairs is the Portrait Gallery. When Caitlyn enters the Gallery, she finds a rubber snake on the floor and Daniel Tremaine with what looks like a spear sticking out of his chest. Pomona says she was in the study sleeping, but has nobody to verify her alibi. Caitlyn knows that Pomona has been acting strange lately, but refuses to believe she is guilty of murder.

Who killed Daniel Tremaine? Why was he killed? Why is Pomona acting so different? Can Caitlyn solve the mystery and protect Pomona?

H. Y. Hanna has a fantastic addition to her wonderful Bewitched by Chocolate series. The characters are well done with unique personalities. The situations are realistic and the mystery has plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing clear to the end. I am definitely looking forward to the next book in this fantastic series.

Stretching out a story simply for the sake of stretching out the story (a/k/a getting another title to sell) is not always a good thing. That's exactly the way I felt about this book. I'm getting bored. I'm bored waiting to hear the story of Caitlynn's mother. I am totally bored with Caitlynn second guessing herself at every turn. And I am really, truly bored waiting for the Caitlynn/James relationship to do something - anything! James is giving a masked ball on the eve of Mabon. A new visitor to the mansion has - as usual - a rather unhealthy interest in the collection of occult items that James inherited from his father. So unhealthy that he ends up dead with one of the occult instruments through his chest. Meanwhile, Caitlynn's cousin Pomona is acting weirder and weirder, and now seems to be developing her own magical powers with a bent toward being truly evil. Could it be that black diamond necklace - or it is just coincidence? Of course it's the freakin' necklace for pity's sake! Other than dealing with Pomona there's no real resolution to this story, so it's just a set up for the next book. While I have enjoyed some of the books in the series, I'm starting to think it's main audience in 16-year-old girls.

I usually do not pick up books with witchcraft, spells, and witches and vampires, thus this is the first time I have read this series by Ms. Hanna. It is not a stand-alone read although there was enough background given that I was able to follow the story. I do love this author’s other series and was pleasantly surprised that this series lives up to her other ones.

The village of Tillyhenge is celebrating the fall equinox with the Mabon Ball. This is upsetting the townspeople as they see it as an invitation to allow witchcraft to flourish in the village and causing fear and prejudice to wreak havoc throughout the village.

There is a murder at the ball and all evidence points toward Caitlyn’s cousin Pomona. Can Caitlyn clear her and find the real killer? Is black magic involved?

The cast of characters are delightful and it is a fun read. I was hooked from the first page and highly recommend this book. If you haven’t read the first six books in this series, this would be preferable, I know I am going to be going back and starting at book 1.

Salted Caramel Sorcery by H.Y. Hanna is the newest installment in her series about an enchanted chocolate shop in the Cotswolds of England. The shop is run by Widow Mags, who the author describes as a crabby old woman who makes incredible chocolates. The rumors are that she and her daughter who runs the herbal shop, also in town, are witches. Caitlyn Le Fey who was abandoned by her mother when she was a baby has come to the English village to find her family. Widow Mags is her grandmother and she stays to help run the chocolate shop and of course falls in love with the handsome James Fitzroy the most eligible bachelor. He is also the defender of the Widow Mags and her daughter Bertha, who the villagers fear because they say they are witches. It is interesting how much the ideas of social justice seem to play out in this book. People fearing those they do not understand. Some important points are made in a very gentle way within this entertaining cozy mystery. So glad I received an advance copy of this mystery with an ending I did not see coming.

In this seventh book of the Bewitched by Chocolate Mystery series, all is not as it seems. (Is it ever?) Caitlyn finds out more about her family than she is ready for. It’s not just her mother, of course, but others within her closest circle. Why is Pomona behaving so strangely? Evie has decided in favour of an on-line glamour; will it work? Will she finally capture the attention of the boy she so ardently likes?

The murdered is Peter Tremaine; even he is not what he seems. Does he work for the government as he claims or is he something more? As Caitlyn attempts to make sense of all that is happening, she learns some things about herself and others.

She CAN use her abilities even without additional training.

Good really is better than evil.

Some villagers cannot be reasoned with.

Help is on the way.

She finds helps with the unlikelikest of cohorts. Together, they manage to save the day.

This was another great book by H.Y. Hanna!

Wow, it just hit me when I clicked on „Write a review“ that we have actually already arrived at book 7 of the series 😳 I have to say, now I do know why some plot developments in this one left me super relieved and satisfied - because it was about time they happened! 😄 And, looking back over my last review, it was what I was really hoping for to happen!! 😍

And as if that wasn‘t enough, the actual resolution to this volume‘s murder mystery totally, and I mean TOTALLY, got me by surprise! This is one of the strongest books in the series, even if there are some scenes where I was, like, „Really? Are we doing this?“ 🤨
If you are already immersed in the series, you should totally go ahead and read this one, too - if not, do yourself a favor and do start with volume one, it is worth it!!

The village of Tillyhenge is set to celebrate the autumn equinox with a costume ball at Huntingdon Manor. Caitlyn’s grandmother, the Widow Mags, has been hired to cater all the sweets, including a caramel sauce fountain. Caitlyn, along with her cousins Pomona and Evie, are all invited. Pomona wears a black diamond given to her by a mysterious billionaire who wants to buy much of the land around Tillyhenge, and Caitlyn realizes that the pendant holds a troublesome power over the girl. When a man is found stabbed to death in the portrait gallery of the manor, Pomona is a suspect, because she was seen heading to the portrait gallery. Caitlyn knows her cousin is innocent, but she needs to get Pomona away from the billionaire’s control. There were a lot of tense scenes in this story as well as funny moments with Evie’s spells going wrong, and some tender moments between Caitlyn and Lord Fitzroy.

This series of books just gets better and better, there is something for everyone, for animal lovers there is Bran the Mastiff or Nibs the adorable cat, who still looks like a kitten (another mystery to be solved).
Viktor the vampire always makes me laugh and of course the inevitable murder needing to be solved, the red herrings are skilfully inserted into the story, and it is a classic who-dun-it. I love how the characters are developing and it’s great to see Evie helping Caitlyn, who can’t believe her cousin Pomona could murder anyone, but to prove that, Caitlyn has to do some detective work and unearth the real murderer.
There are a lot of historical facts woven into the story, showing how much research H.Y.Hanna does. This is a great addition to the Bewitched by Chocolate Mysteries, with a surprise twist at the end.

H. Y Hanna has a good idea of how to do a cozy mystery. I was not a fan of her first book in the Tea series but when I went ahead and read the second and third book the series just took off. My favorite series by Hanna is her beach series. And, Hanna's Chocolate Witch series is my favorite magical cozy.
I listened to the audible version of this book. The narration done by Pearl Hewitt was exceptional. She and Hanna really bring the characters to life and when they do something stupid, well, I can believe it because that is the character. And her delightful characters are up against some pretty neat villains
This book gets a bit darker but not that much. A couple events I have been anticipating have happened and I am happy. Chocolate witches are my favorite sort of witches.

I love HY Hanna's Oxford Tea Room mysteries and English Cottage Garden mysteries but was hesitant to try this series as I thought it would be difficult to accept the believability aspect of witchery. I was happy to find the characters relatable as well as the types of situations they found themselves in. Modern day issues are merged into the story further making things relevant. In these ways the series reminds me of the Harry Potter series, the only other fantasy theme I've enjoyed. When characters, situations and issues are relatable, the fantasy that I would otherwise find difficult flows naturally. A review copy of this book was sent to me by the author for my honest opinion. Now I can't wait to get hands on the previous books and am thrilled to have another series to look forward to!

Salted Caramel Sorcery is an enchanting cozy mystery in the Bewitched by Chocolate series by H.Y. Hanna. The series revolves around Caitlyn Le Fey who lives in an attic room in her grandmothers chocolate shop in the Cotswolds village of Tillyhenge.

As with the other books in the series, Caitlyn soon stumbles over a dead body in the library during a party and the death has a few suspicious circumstances that might lend themselves to the supernatural. Caitlyn can’t help but get involved in piecing together clues of who might have done it.

I listened to the audiobook version of this story narrated by the impeccable Pearl Hewitt. She narrates with such enthusiasm that it’s impossible not to become totally engaged in the story. Simply put, I highly recommend this story to anyone who enjoys lighthearted cozy mysteries.

I've been anxiously awaiting this next installment of the Bewitched by Chocolate series and I know I always say this, but Salted Caramel Sorcery is my favorite so far! I love everything about it! I would love to go to the chocolate shop that the main character, Caitlyn, works at with her grandmother (the widow Mags) and try everything they make! Bran (dog) and Nibs (the kitten) always make me laugh at all of their antics, as well as Uncle Viktor! What a hoot he is as usual! The mystery was interesting and I couldn't put my kindle down! Every H.Y. Hanna book is so much fun to read!

Another enjoyable book by HY Hanna. A lavish masked ball at the Manor and the inevitable murder. Mayhem and chaos, fun, laughter, darkness, witchery and mean spirited village dwellers all included. Something I have been waiting for has been resolved (for now). I am concerned about the Widow Mags and feel very sorry for the constant tormenting that she receives at the hands of some very nasty people. Not sure I'm enjoying that part of the series and hope that eventually something will happen that will enable a better acceptance and understanding, but then again, it might make it boring...?!

Witchlore and more sweet mystery with a dark touch

This seven installment of Bewitched by chocolate might be my favorite. I was so happy to get reacquainted with the main characters and the charming settings of Tillyhenge village and surrounding estate. The festive atmosphere of the beginning and the quicker pace of the end carried me throught the book almost without putting it down. But beside the entertaining plot, one of the things I liked best was the witch and pagan lore. The author is doing her research pretty thoroughly and it is a delight to see the salted caramel interlacing with seasonal pagan festivals, herbal healing, and spell lore.
This book series could be made in an attractive Netflix or amazon video series.

These books were getting better about the ridiculousness of characters actions, but this one went backwards. All in all, the behaviors of Katelyn and James was absolutely ridiculous at times, making it less enjoyable to listen to. This also doesn't wrap up the series, so I expect there will be more?

I really love this series. It is just as fun as the author's other mysteries but I love the added mystique in this one with the supernatural elements. There is a real sense that anything can happen, good and bad! I am left intrigued with James' father's past and whether or not James will be called upon to work for the government in the same capacity. What this will mean for his relationship with Caitlyn.
There was no end of drama from all quarters. The townsfolk were particularly riled up in this instalment and I felt sure that this would be the end of the chocolate shop after one particular suspense-filled scene.
This was an excellent read and I look forward to the next one.

Book 7 is it the last one?

Book 7 still this push and pull love interest with James and Caitlyn. James still let's everyone stay at his place (really) there is kindness and there is just stupid naivety.plus he knows she is a witch and his father's friend nearly killed her so why let another fathers friend stay and when he tells him he worked with his father, that's a big red flag.he put Caitlyn in danger. This book was the end of the black necklace.but Caitlyn parents are still unknown but she knows her mum is alive.Caitlyn gets that long awaited kids but does not mean much in this series took 7 books to get a kiss.

Unbelievable stupid

Part of me think it was good that I didn't member this book series cause its stupid, who as a family that you grew up with and know that the necklace she wear is making her evil and she change and rather tell someone who is better at magic and help her you left her keep been evil and not doing your best to help. I mean this girl do nothing but be stupid she doesn't even learn magic or how things are. Hell even James is an idiot, all that your father has collected he think its ok to let any and everyone comes in his house my gosh am reading a book series where both lead are door mat.
