I knew a little about Villa but this was more informative. I knew he was married several times even though it was not necessary. He believed that women loved the ceremony of marriage.
I would liked to know more about his personal life as well as battles during the Mexican civil war.

Short, but informative

This is a very short synopsis of the life of Poncho Villa, but it is a great introduction to his life if that is what you're looking for as I was.

Published by Hourly History in 2021.

I think this is the third book I've read in the last few years that is at least partially about the Mexican Revolutionary Pancho Villa (1878-1923). I read two that were basically about American responses to Villa's cross-border excursions (and near misses) into the United States for money and supplies.

Each entry in the Hourly History series is, by definition, a short book. Each entry is supposed to be read in about an hour.

This biography was neither bad nor good. It did tell the basically outlines of his life without giving the reader much a sense of the man. Even worse, Villa will forever be associated with the Mexican Revolution but this book did a pretty poor job of explaining the complicated politics that Villa tried to navigate. It seemed that he was an insider one week, on the outs the next week, and running for his life the week after that and I had no understanding as to why that was.

A good basic intro, but nothing more.

I rate this e-book 3 stars out of 5.

I have heard of Pancho Villa for decades but really knew very little of him so this book was an eye-opener. Interesting life.
I was amused by the last sentence: "It was a bloody end to a bloody life, but despite the carnage, the fiery fighting spirit of Pancho Villa would live on in the hearts of many people for centuries to come." Centuries? He died July 1923. It's barely been over one century. It may be a little premature to say his fighting spirit will live on at least another 98 years.

Nothing is known of Pancho Villa's early life. He worked as a sharecropper with his family until he killed a man who molested his sister. With all his banditry and revolution work, he had time to marry five or six women. I enjoyed the introductory passages quoting Pancho Villa at the beginning of most chapters. They helped me understand this complex man. I was stunned to learn Villa died at the age of forty-five. He certainly crammed a lot of life into those years.

Poncho Villa a man in violent times

Villa whether you like him or not; commands the widest spectrum of comments. Some authors provide evidence that he deliberately stage his campaigns for Hollywood, its left to the Mexicans to judge. It leaves me one observation to make, " Mexico so far from god so close to their many revolution "

Poncho Villa Rides Again

An hour read that hits all the high and low points of his. career. All you normally hear is that he was a Mexican bandit but he actually had a much more interesting career.

Viva Villa

Pancho Villa the name that is associated with revolution and freedom for Mexico. In the few pages of this little book is a start of The story of a legend. I just enjoyed it.

Great read that tells a more informative story about the life and aspirations of Villa that school history books chose to ignore. In the sixties we were taught that Pershing chased Villa all over Mexico but they neglected to say why. The reader will be enlightened.

Outlaw

This book nicely summarized the life and exploits of Pancho Villa. He lead a remarkable, though violent, life. He ultimately paid a price for his years of violence when he was was a assassinated a few years after retiring from the outlaw life.

Easy Read

This is a fairly concise biography of a key figure in Mexico's history that most Americans know very little about.

I knew very little about him until I read this short book. I knew that he was involved in the war in Mexico. I had no idea that he attacked the United States.
