The sweet series of MBFB can seriously give you a teeth ache from its sweetness. The easiest way to explain this is to compare this to Go Go Squid. For anyone who has watched it, this was written by the same author as that and sweetness of this is on par with that.
The difference between Go Go Squid and Really Really Miss You is in the two different fields within the virtual field that they focus on. While the former is about virtual gaming, the latter is on Voice actors. The reason I brought Go Go Squid up during this particular review rather than all the other books of MBFB I've reviewed before is mostly due to the similarities these two actually pose. I almost felt this was a companion to that than God's Left Hand.
I have always mentioned this and once more I shall mention it, the reason for the high ratings for all of MBFB's novels from me is mainly due to the bias I have towards her. I honestly love all her books so much. From her writing to her characters really do bring out a sentimental side. Although I do rate the sweet and fluffy books less than her 至此 series or her 一生一世 series, that does not make these books any less fun. That is the beauty of MBFB's writings. She can touch up on any genre and give us a masterpiece. None of her plot drag out or her characters annoy you.
Thanks to Hoju from Fanatical --> https://hui3r.wordpress.com/about/ for making me have such a wonderful experience while reading this book. The fact I rated this book full points definitely has to do with Hoju's translations and hard work at translating those ancient Chinese songs and even providing background story to the songs where necessary^^
I read the translation and it's great story It's so sweet and funny. I laughed a lot because the female lead is so fun It's one of my favorite. It's a story about a woman in online entertainment cycle. So in China, and as i know country such as japan too (i don't know other country), there was online entertainment that you can join to become something like vocaloid maybe, so you will do work with your voice (such dubber, etc). The female is a fan of the male lead (he is so famous but no one know his face). One day, they meet in online chatting room. From there the story begin. At the beginning, it's quite hard for me to understand the story because in my country there is none online entertainment cycle like in the book. But the translator is kind enough to gave the readers explanation. The only lack of this book for me that it took quite a long time for the leading character to meet. But it's not too important, so I still give this book 5 STAR
I know that Mo Bao Fei Bao is a popular author in China but in my experience with her novels, I dislike the author's way of writing.
This novel is my 3rd novel from her, but I dnf the previous 2 because it's too boring (我的曼达林 and 轻易放火). I nearly dnf this novel but was intrigued by how their relationship will turn out, but I ended up regretting my decision.
The build up for their relationship isn't good and extremely boring. They met for the first time in the real world after around 2 months of communicating online. On their second meeting, Mo Qingcheng admitted to his uncle that Gu Sheng is his girlfriend but he never ask her prior to that moment(That just didn't set well with me. I would be so pissed if some guy declared to others that I'm her girlfriend when we never talk about it and I didn't agree). Thankfully he confessed to her on their third meeting.
But in my opinion, their relationship is too abrupt. He mentioned that he likes her years ago when he heard her singing but then how did he knew that the store in front of the hospital is her family's store? The author just skimmed the surface of their relationship. Prior to this novel, I just read another Chinese novel where the male lead is also a doctor, just like Mo Qingcheng. But is that novel, before the female lead and male lead got together, the male lead let the female lead see how chaotic and hectic his work life as a doctor. The male lead wanted to see if the female lead can stand his work schedule because he wants to have a serious relationship with the female lead.
But I can't see it happening in this novel. Their topics are all about voice acting, food recipes(I felt like I'm reading a recipe book lol) or about how handsome Mo Qingcheng's voice. No deep discussion about their lives. It's too impulsive and stupid. Even the interactions between the male lead and female lead are boring.
Ps, there are actually 3 novels from Mo Bao Fei Bao that are currently on my list to read, I hope I won't end up hating it like the previous 2 novels and this novel.
Watched the C-drama first, got hooked, rewatched the drama right away, and decided i needed to read the book. Can't read chinese tho *ashamed*(cuz im chinese born in Norway), so i read the english translation.
This was such a feel-good story, literally all the way. The male lead is just a PERFECT guy in every way and sadly it's just fictional and that makes me miserable. I'm considering really hard to watch the drama-show again cuz i. Just. Cant. Let. Go!
While Mo Qingcheng is dreamy, i'm not entirely sure i can say the same about female lead Sheng Sheng. In the tv-show she has a little bit more personality, but in the book she's very quiet, awkward and not very expressive, compared to the male lead who wows her again and again and again and she literally does nothing for him. Well, she kinda took care of him the one time he was sick but cmon, he's a doctor.
Whatever! I still give this a 5 cuz im easily swayed and i loved this
I read the translation for this a while back and I adored the two main characters. Overall, it's just a very sweet book with two people falling in love without much drama. But seriously the male lead is THE EPITOME OF PERFECTION and the way he interacts with the female lead is really cute.
This is the sweetest book I’ve read in a long time. There’s not really drama like in other books, but it’s a simple form of happiness, and this is definitely one of the top books I’ve read ever.
In terms of fangirling over voices, I can really relate to the main character!
There are countless numbers of nice voices in this world, but only one voice will cause you to feel that “This is the one I love” the instant you hear it.
It is just another early morning and college student Gu Sheng is on her way back to the dorm. Since her roommate is trying to get Sheng Sheng, who is a relatively unknown cover song singer for Chinese ancient style songs as a hobby, to contribute a birthday song for the website said roommate is managing, they are on 'call', using Sheng Sheng's QQ chat room (online platform for voice chats) because Gu Sheng just doesn't want to type.
It's the morning that changes everything. When roommate Geng Xiaoxing goes suddenly silent (there being a surprise cleanliness inspection conducted at the dorm rooms), another voice suddenly sounds in the voice chat instead. It belongs to Qiang Qing Ci - a voice actor Gu Sheng has been obsessed with. He takes it upon himself to give the chat room's owner instructions on how to prepare the hot pot Gu Sheng had just been raving about having had at a restaurant in a home setting. By the time Geng Xiaoxing returns to the call, he is gone, though.
It seems like a chance encounter. But then, it turns out the webmaster of the same website Geng Xiaoxing had tried to get Gu Sheng to sing for has also recruited Wanmei Voice Acting Group, the one which Qiang Qing Ci belongs to, for the festivities, bringing the two together again in a co-work environment.
And suddenly, Gu Sheng finds herself unswervingly pursued by her idol.
It's a sweet love story that's not too long and not too short. To be honest, it's my all-time favourite among all the c-novels I have read thus far. One I re-read (either in full or just favourite parts) frequently.
The English translation available online (at https://hui3r.wordpress.com/ ) is a godsend, not only because it makes the novel accessible for people like me who don't read (or even speak) Chinese, it also has footnotes with explanations for cultural and other aspects that could leave a westerner confused without context.
I didn't like this story that much since there was very little build up to the relationship. The main female lead fell in love with Qiang Qing Ci, a popular online voice actor, solely from his voice. He's like an idol to someone who loves voices like her.
The story starts with him randomly joining her online chat room and telling her about a recipe, and from there their relationship slowly develops. First all of their interactions are online, then they exchange Wechat accounts and phone numbers, and then finally they meet up in person. As the reader, you quickly realize that Qiang Qing Ci likes the female lead and is slowly pursuing her, but you don't know why. I was holding out for that moment where the truth is revealed and we learn why he's so into her, but that reveal was quite underwhelming.
Literally the whole story is Mo Chengqing (Qiang Qing Ci's real name) very singlemindedly pursuing her while Gu Sheng struggles to understand how something so wonderful can be happening to her and trying to adjust to her new reality. It doesn't help Mo Chengqing seems to be perfect. Not only does he have an amazing voice, but apparently he can sing better than professional singers and is tall and super handsome to boot. Plus he's a doctor in real life. And don't forget he's an amazing chef too. That's too much of a perfect package...
The development of their relationship isn't so much a mutual affair but Gu Sheng slowly giving in to Mo Chengqing's advances, and that's what made it boring. It's much more interesting to read how feelings develop on both sides, but here it's way too one-sided.
If only I read this around ten years ago, I would definitely give 5 stars easily. The story is sweet, verryyyy sweet mind you, I almost couldn’t bear to read it.
A short read but full of sweetness and fluff. A famous but mysterious dubbing actor trying to make his crush to like him back but she is also his fan, that’s the whole story. The theme of the story is food and traditional Chinese music so I suggest to watch the drama adaptation (Love Me Love My Voice) for the whole experience. It has also included stories from one of the author’s previous work, One Life One Incarnation: Beautiful Bones, in several scenes so I appreciate that.
After Zhousheng Chen, Mo Qingcheng is also another forest in the fictional world made by Mo Bao Fei Bao.
很想很想你 (hěn xiǎng hěn xiǎng nǐ), or Really, Really Miss You, or I miss you very much (Machine Translation, MTL, title); or better known by it's adapted title for the cdrama, Love Me, Love My Voice.
I read this on the advice of a translator. The story itself (a romance occurs between a traditional music performer and a voice actor in China) is fairly low key and charming but the real treat is the huge amount of information about Chinese social media platforms and how music enthusiasts use them to perform, record, develop fans, etc. The male lead is a voice actor who re-records dialogue for Chinese films (a commonplace occurrence) which is a hard to describe situation yet the author does a great job incorporating it into the plot.
From what I understand of the translation process, the vocabulary used was quite technical and a challenge to work with.
Don't expect much action but it's a pleasant read and a glimpse into modern life in China.
