Rate this book

This is an excellently written history that will appeal to both amateurs and academics alike. It robustly argues its points and backs them up while not feeling stuffy in the least. It adds a wealth of new information to challenge popular conceptions of the movement, while at the same time recognizing the potential biases of those interviewed who provided such new information. This is complemented by a synthesis of existing stories to create a cohesive and compelling narrative.

If you're expecting to learn about the background to the 2010-2011 uprisings specifically, you may be disappointed, since they caught both Ennahda and Ben Ali by surprise. However, if you want to learn how Ennahda shaped and was shaped by events from the 19th century to its founding in the 1980s to the present, this is most certainly the book for you.
