I trusted my heart to a vampire. Now I want revenge . . .

The vampires are at war, and I’m caught in the middle. I thought nothing could surpass my desire for Nic’s dark, dangerous charms, but with my father dead from the fangs of our enemy, everything has changed.

I’m consumed with the need to seek vengeance. Suddenly, I realize what I must do. I ask Nic to change me. He forbids it. He tells me the change must be made for the right reason. For love. And avenging my father isn’t the right reason.

But with our enemy closing in fast, I’m angry enough to defy Nic and fight this war my way, no matter what the consequences.

Nic and the Vampires of Baton Rouge are getting their butts kicked by Francois and his father Emile Kings of New Orleans. It is not until the very end of the book that Nic and his Shifter friends kill King Emile. He turns Francois over to some committee to be judge.

Nic does finally turn Leia only after Leia asked Nics brother Sebastian to turn her. I didn't like the way Leia was written.

I had to push to finish the last 2 books in the Baton Rouge Vampire!

I ain’t gonna lie, I’m struggling with a rating and a review for this book.

The good:
I absolutely loved the overarching storyline and characters. Most of them anyway. The setting of Baton Rouge was a perfect backdrop to a story with a centuries old family that were among the first settlers of the area. I loved a lot of the secondary characters and feel that there’s definitely more stories to tell here. It appears that Nic’s brother, Sebastian will be getting his own book next. Or will he get his own trilogy and a story about being regent of New Orleans? I thought Kyle and Jason were intriguing enough that they should each get a story. *fingers crossed*

The bad:
There were some editing errors. Not a ton of them, at least not enough to pull me out of the story

The ugly:
I hated the FMC, Leia for most of this book. This is so odd because I loved her in book 1 & 2. Well, most of book 2. She was looking like she might venture off into the TSTL arena near the end of book 2. In this book, she’s firmly there, and has even planted the flag. I swear, if I didn’t know any better, I would assume that someone else wrote this character in this book than the one that wrote her in the other 2 books. I believe what the author was going for was a woman consumed by vengeance. But didn’t get it quite right. First of all, I don’t even know why she felt so strongly about her father to justify this strong reaction. He was a drunk and a gambler who pissed away everything. Including her! That’s how Nic came to be in her orbit. But whatever. But she ends up gaslighting him to no end and I got tired of it real fast. See my notes and highlights if you want specifics.

The only thing saving this book for me was the storyline. It was intriguing enough to keep me interested even though I really didn’t want to finish the book at about 25%. The final third of the book was much better. Even the character of Leia. But by that time, I didn’t give a shit about her anymore. I even got to where I wasn’t enamored with Nic anymore because, to me, he came across as such a pussy for excusing her behavior. There’s a pretty big betrayal in this book which is entirely Leia’s responsibility (and a lil of Seb’s) and Nic totally exonerates her and lays all the blame at Sebastian’s feet. Sometimes, I’m glad there’s no such thing as a fated mate because in some of these books, it just seems to make the characters stupid.

I highly recommend the first 2 books, but have a hard time recommending this one. Unfortunately, you’ll need to plow through it to resolve the cliffhanger at the end of book 2. I wanted to give this a 1 or 2 star rating, that’s how much Leia ruined the book for me. But I settled on 3 stars (my average) because the plot made up for it.

This one was good. But not nearly as good as the other two. I definitely read it like it was the last book on earth but it still didn’t live up to the standards for me.

In the first book I adored Leia. She seemed strong and confident and had her head on straight, however over the course of book 2 and 3 I felt her character had this major unnecessary shift that caused me to severely dislike her and that’s a huge reason my review is so low.

She seemed really really dumb. Like the reason Nic gave her for not turning was completely valid and made total sense, but she kept fighting it and saying he wasn’t going to give in to her. Like WTH you are all lovey dovey and then he doesn’t give you one thing and it’s like the world is ending because you don’t like his reason.

The it was like a switch flip she went from being angry and quiet and sad to being all horny and happy again. I just couldn’t get on board with that. And the big betrayal in book 3 had me so angry. Nic only blamed one party and took no care to even discuss how or why it was wrong! Your reasons were valid! Defend yourself!

Lol I’m ranting but I wanted this ending to be so much more than it was and I’m let down because book 2 was pretty much a 5 star read for me.

This is book 3 in a trilogy and concludes Nic and Laila’s story. I’m not going to lie, it’s been a while since I read the first 2 books so a lot of the finer details are lost to me. It also doesn’t help my cause that I read them before I started writing reviews.

What I found majorly cringy about the first 2 books was the overuse of the term “bride”. It’s literally on every second page and not just form Nic using it but also Francois and literally everyone else in between. I’m happy to say the term doesn’t make a cameo in this book (at least not to the point of being cringe) and is replaced with the term mate which is a lot more palatable.

The story line in all three books is pretty good; there’s the forced proximity, a vampire war, possessive vampire king. Cue segue into Nic. I found him to be an absolute sweetheart. He would literally do anything to make Laila happy in any way possible. Plus, if the covers are anything to go by who wouldn’t want to be practically kidnapped by a vampire king??

Laila on the other hand reaches a pinnacle of frustrating FMCs in this book. I get that she’s grieving the loss of her alcoholic deadbeat father but she’s just so impulsive and reckless and whiney that it’s hard to keep reading at times. Most conversations she has week Nic follow the same formula; she asks a question, Nic answers, she doesn’t understand so instead of asking for elaboration she asks the same thing again, still doesn’t understand so she gets angry and then ends up acting like a rebelling teen.

There’s plenty of spice throughout this series, no smut however and by book three you start realising that it’s quite vanilla. Laila being halfway to becoming a thrall constantly wants to jump Ni but that’s all it is; in one word tame.
Overall it’s not a bad trilogy, just lacking. More smut maybe? More world building? Either way, It’s an easy and quick read and I have no regrets reading it.

OMG! Worse?

The only thing good about this series was that it ended. Sorry, not sorry.

So the last book ended with Leia saying that if Nic wouldn’t turn her she would ask Sebastian… this book starts with Nic’s POV and never mentions that Leia said such a shocking thing. Then goes on to say something about human emotions and being in shock or something but that he didn’t realize becoming it’s been a long time since he was human.. 🤔 Um… when was Nic ever human? Book 1 tells us he was born vampire in his mother’s womb, not turned. Then further in the chapter, I think, still his POV, he says he’s afraid to turn her because he might get it wrong because he has “never turned anyone before”… 🤔 Um… hello Jason?

These are essential things that built up the character for the readers and she just essentially changed that but writing these things AND elaborating on them in lengthy paragraphs like it’s always been this way! Like, what? In book 3!?!

Then there’s that pesky Book of Gray that I was complaining about somewhere, numerous times, likely in my review or notes on Goodreads. But anyway, my major complaint was that Nic hadn’t read it and then that he hadn’t let Leia read it nor explained the dangers of their situation and her status to her. She was curious about the book, but Nic had it whisked away to the West Wing. She was adamant that she didn’t want to turn, but I thought that if she knew the alternative, she could make an informed decision.

Suddenly, not only has she read through it and has easy access to it, but Nic has told her about the thrall… and this is written as though she had all this information BEFORE the tragedy that befell her at the end of the last book! I’m like… no just no. She wouldn’t adamantly turn it down just as quickly as asked if she knew she could become a thrall, right? So then the after tries to fix that later by then saying she skimmed it previously and not really understood most of it. 😒 Most people ask questions when they don’t understand something, especially when they know it concerns them… she didn’t have to ask Nic. She could have asked Aimee to explain… Baldwin or Jason… but nope. You got a human reading a book about vampire lore, creatures she had no clue about the existence of, and she doesn’t ask anyone to explain the things she clearly wouldn’t know what they meant.

There’s are many things that undermine the initial storyline and are frustrating as hell, but don’t take my word for it. See for yourself.

Oh, in the end of this one, Nic’s mom is with Leia… I can’t say why without spoilers, but… the point is this woman has not said two words to Leia the entire series. Even when she met her I think she spoke to Nic while saying she was a cute or adorable little thing or something. When she did deem to speak about Leia at Nic’s behest, she spoke like she was some replaceable commodity. She never came to Nic’s to get to know her, she never invited them, or her, to her house for tea, to go shopping, nothing. But here she is written in at the end of Leia’s story like they’ve been cool all along… 🙄🙄

There’s an excerpt of Sebastian’s book at the end which I’m about to check out. But, if he’s written just as stupid as the king of Baton Rouge, I’m going to have to pass. These characters made the dumbest decisions known to mankind and it was just sad to think these people would be leading others. I guess it was a good thing the “kings” weren’t really practicing kings and ran restaurants and casinos… 😏

See my notes, highlights and commentary on good reads. I do not recommend this book. Happy reading.

This story is a complex paranormal romance centred around a vampire theme, featuring the intriguing premise of spending a month with a mysterious billionaire. The narrative is unpredictable, effectively delivering a complete and engaging storyline within a concise format. Readers are likely to find themselves drawn into the plot, eagerly anticipating each twist and turn.
Key elements of this immersive tale encompass themes of fated mates—an irresistible pull that transcends time—alongside witches, vampires, and shifters. The air is thick with magic, action, and palpable tension, while family dynamics add another layer of complexity to the relationships at play. The male protagonist emerges as a quintessential Alpha—exuding sexiness, dominance, and a fierce possessiveness that heightens the romantic and dramatic stakes of the narrative. As the story unfolds, it blend of passion, intrigue, and supernatural wonders.

This is the final part of Nic the vampire king and Leia his True mate story.

I loved how it developed their relationship more. Going by the title you know what's got to happen, but Nic isn't keen. There's lots of drama and moments when you're going don't do it!

What I really loved was Nic, he was strong but so vulnerable about his feelings for Leia.

A good conclusion to their story.

[ Rating: 2.5 stars ] Made by the Vampire King was an okay conclusion for the Baton Rouge Vampires series. I just really wish more happened plot-wise.

Leia wants to be turned into a vampire so she has the power to exact revenge on Francois for brutally killing her father. She also feels guilty for failing to take care of her father like she has for years.

But Nic won’t do it – even though it would ensure her safety more – because turning someone (if I understood this correctly) when they’re angry or through violence or such will be all that consumes them even after turning. Nic wants to turn Leia out of love and not lose his true mate to anger.

Both Leia and Nic make valid arguments but there was some miscommunication, which is probably why so much time is spent going back and forth on this issue (for almost 60% of the story!) while preparing for war.

There are some interesting parts throughout the book and lots of extra steamy scenes. The final battle was alright although on the short side and somewhat underwhelming. But, as I said, I expected more from the story as a whole given how the last book ended and what was at stake going into this.

Overall, book three was okay. The series is good despite the issues I had with it. I don’t regret reading it because it does stand out from other vampire books I’ve read. But it could’ve been much better.

The story line was good, and the characters were well written. This story; however, lasted forever! I feel this could have been a one book story, instead of putting them into 3 books. Thank goodness they are free on kindle. The lack of communication between Leia and Nicolas makes me wonder how they were ever true mates. Leia's stupidity at thinking she can deal with vampires by herself is laughable and I don't know how she failed to know this herself. Sebastian was like a toddler wanting everything Nicolas had, and for a 100-year-old vampire he acted like a total incompetent dork. Francios was a whole mess! I understand he was mad and deranged, but I would have liked to know more about what was done to Leia in the lower part of his house where she was examined and why---what was the whole point in that, if it was never addressed in the book as to why it was done and why it was necessary.

I doubt I continue the series to see how Sebastian handles being the boss in New Orleans. It'll probably take another 3 books for Sebastian to grow up. I'd rather spend my time reading something else.

I liked this better than the second book probably because there was a lot more action and ass-kicking (in addition to the smut, of course). We finally get our conclusion to Leia and Nic's story as well as some loose threads left hanging to be resolved in the next book.

The author was successful in relaying Leia's trauma and her emotions along with Nic's conflicting thoughts regarding turning her. The visual of the event itself was great. I wish the final battle scene would pan out a little longer as it was wrapped up almost too nicely (where's the trap? we need to address how it felt too easy). Alas, this is a romance novel and not an action novel. I am okay with our heroine's ass-kicking.

I also wished that Leia had not been too accepting of Nic's final decision after all the traumas she had gone through. The author missed a chance to include how much a person is accountable for their actions when they're under the influence.

Overall, a good end to a decent vampire romance series.

Spice scale (as defined by Mysterious Galaxy): 🔥🔥🔥🔥 [Grab a fan because it’s getting hot in here!]

This is a NON-SPOILER REVIEW of Made by the Vampire King, the third book in the Baton Rouge Vampires by Roxie Ray. I love, love, loved this story! Nic is still torn by his love for his human mate Leia. The drama continues to ratchet as Francois Ricard and then his father, Emile continue trying to capture Leia. Traumatized by the vampires of House Ricard, Leia becomes more obsessed with becoming and makes life miserable for both Nic and Sebastian. The final confrontation is unavoidable and the consequences are surprising. Action, angst, love, betrayal, spicy heat and sweet moments make this a spectacular read.
This book closes the Baton Rouge Vampires trilogy and sets up for the next set of (spin-off) reads with Sebastian as our lead character in Ruthless Prince, the first book in Vampires of Baton Rouge.

This book picks up where the last book left off with Leia asking Nic to turn her to seek vengeance for her father's death.

Leia is in quite a state of shock. Battling her own inner demons after the loss of her father and the visual of the bloodshed. Nic is back to a very caring suitor trying his best to protect and love her.

However, her transition was quite gruesome and marred by a lot of pain. He finally does turn her even though it came unexpectedly. Then the war, they go to New Orleans and exact revenge; however, she doesn't get everything she wants as Nic must abide by the council. The end of the book wraps up everything from their happily ever after to the leftover family issues.

This book was filled with drama from one horrendous action to the next. Nic and Leia are constantly at odds with each other. He does eventually turn her, and I like the vampire version of her better. The author does resolve all the drama, and they do live happily ever after finally.

This book is filled with gruesome descriptions of lots of blood and war. Nic is elbow deep in it all, and Leia is right there beside him. I liked that she finally became a heroine in the story and less of a needy, fragile woman.

So I really felt like I had to push through this book. It just started getting repetitive and honestly boring. First she wants revenge and then once shes finally turned shes like ehhh not really important anymore.. also when the heck did sebastian spend enough time with leia to fall in love with her? I get being drawn to her blood or whatever, but saying he's in love with her kinda seems like a stretch to me. Then theres the ending... I get that the crazy dad killing vampire gets his own book, but honestly why? Why cant leia just have her revenge and kill the crazy vampire? Who gives a cr*p if he was drinking deadmans blood. Why take that satisfaction away from her and the readers? Ugh just so many frustrating things happened in this book. Honestly I have zero desire to read any other books even remotely related to this series.

Considering how long it took to get to the final battle I would have hoped it would have a bit more impact on the story but it was a bit of a let down tbh.

Then there was the beginning of the book. Crumbs Nic annoyed me. He could have solved so much by just being open and honest with Leiah. They just weren't sensible.

Also, you get the impression Nic is meant to be super powerful as a vampire. Almost unmatchable and nowhere in this trilogy do you get the impression that actually plays out....

However, it concludes the story well and provides a nice bit of interest in the surrounding players and wanting to know what happens with them. I think I did enjoy this series, it just didn't live up to the first book!

Wow what a finale, Nic and Leia have so much happening it’s hard to keep up, with a war happening and Nic’s need to turn Leia it’s bursting with twists and turns. Will they get their HEA?
Great story, plot and the characters are brilliant. Some grammatical errors but nothing worth worrying about. Loads of angst, and some real gore happening. The love scenes are hot, and it’s romantic without being crude. This series comes to a conclusion however we are privy to the next series out in January 2022, which will follow on with Sebastian’s story. Overall a really good vampire series, highly recommend

I think I enjoyed this book the most out of the three. It had more action and kept me interested more than the others. Mic is still completely devoted to Leia and will move heaven and earth for her. In the beginning of the book Leia is stubborn and unreasonable. NIC Lets her het away with way too much. However, later on they reach an understanding and it’s lovey dovey town from then on. I enjoyed the action, the setting of Baton Rouge / NOLA, side characters were interesting, steam was hot and romance sweet. I normally like my hero’s a bit more alpha than Nic, but he was still intriguing. All in all an entertaining series! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Anti-Climatic End But Still Worth the Read

The third and final installment of this series started strong but it seemed as if the author was done with the story halfway through.

Leis is finally turned by Nic and watching the process was riveting and kept me engaged. However, once the transition was over, the story fell flat. The end did promise a spin off of another character from the story. However, it was my least favorite one. It’s going to be really hard to fall in love with him as the hero after he played the semi-villain in the series.

You may reach a different conclusion after reading this trilogy. I still consider it to be a very enjoyable series.

Best of the three books

This book, like the two before, almost got a 3.5, but I liked it slightly more than the other two and might keep reading to see what becomes of Sebastian. I'll still find the overall timeline needlessly short, when it feels much longer (especially when the bulk of characters can live forever). It made truly believing the level of chemistry between Nic and Leia difficult to believe. I also felt like the whole plot was rushed and crammed in for no reason and then it was quickly over/solved. Could also use a better editor. But I still enjoyed it and might keep reading the series.

awful

The first two books were great, second a little less so, but still enjoyable. This book is just awful. I cannot stand Nic and I liked him previously. Are we dealing with teenagers suddenly? Because that’s the ick and pathetic feeling I’m getting with the lack of communication between them. He refuses and refuses, but it’s his delay that’s causing her to be unsafe. He is literally keeping her from being fully safe. And the inconsistencies in the book are obvious. You can’t be both born and bitten. And when did she get access to the Book? I made it 47% before I couldn’t tolerate them anymore. Won’t be reading more by this author.

hmm

Okay, book one started with a bang and I was hooked. Book two was so boring I wasn’t planning on reading book three. Then book three started just as boring and slow as I was kind Of over the series. However, the ending made up for some of the dullness. I would say all in all I would recommend this series as a filler if you don't have anything else to read at the moment. Good series just not the best I've ever read I'm used to high-speed books that leave you on the edge of your seat on each page. The spice I would rate at a 2.5-3. Supernatural aspect I would rate at a 3.5.

The first book was a 3.5/5 for me, but I knew that I wanted to give the other two a chance especially after seeing so many ads for the subsequent books. I slowly got through the second, but I'm about to DNF this book and as someone who reads a lot of books that is not something that happens often at all. But I just can't do it. Leia and Nic are insufferable and the writing is so repetitive. The entire will they, won't they with him changing her is so wishy washy. They fight, don't resolve any issues, have sex and then piss each other off again. I wouldn't want to be stuck with either of them eternally.

Childish Stubbornness . . .

This is Nic and Leia's story. Nic is the Vampire King who is hoping that he can make Leia his Queen. However, he tells her, not for the first time, that the change must be made for the right reason -- for love. Leia’s motives are not the “right reason” because she is after revenge for her father’s death. When he refuses to change her, she angrily and stubbornly decides to find someone who will allow her to follow her own plans. Does she even know what that might mean? Does she have any idea what the consequences could be?

Again, I have a problem with this book, just like I did the first book. The writing is missing details that needed to be stated and not presumed. It wasn't until much later when certain things were brought up. I digress, there is still too many grammatical and spelling errors and it is careless. The saving grace is the story itself. It's a great story and worth the read, if you can get past missing details, and typos, along with grammar issues. I can't rate the book lower because, it's a fantastic series, but I struggle at times reading it.

Thrilling conclusion to the Baton Rouge Vampire trilogy.

Wow, what an adventure! The conclusion of Leia and Nic’s story was as thrilling as it was romantic. I loved seeing how Nic and Leia‘s relationship grew leaps and bounds. I also appreciated the action that the author included in this book, it was exciting and dangerous and even a little nailbiting. This story appropriately concluded the trilogy and tied up any loose ends that may have arisen from book one or two. I do find myself wishing there were more books with Nic and Leia as they are such a great couple!

Good trilogy overall

I liked this series overall, there were a few inconsistencies that were annoying mainly because I thought I had missed reading something, but after rereading the the end of previous book and then the beginning of book 3 again I realized, no I hadn't missed anything the character just seemed to know stuff she shouldn't have known. That kind of thing bugs me, mainly because it makes me feel like I missed something when in fact its the story that is missing something.

Other than a couple plot hick-ups not a bad little story.

The book begins with Leia still hurting and revenge obsessed. This line of thinking has her completely selfish and not thinking things through...... but grief can cause this. There is a brief betrayal in this book that almost costs a life and a relationship due to her stupidity.

Nic, on the other hand, in a constant desire to protect Leia, held important information from constantly. This caused Leia to continuously put herself in unnecessary danger. In the end, all ends well. One thing I would have liked to see is Sebastian get his HEA because I feel he kinda got the short end of the stick.

Redeemed

Leia was much better in this book. Maybe a little disassociate from reality, but overall better. As I stated in a previous review, I liked the plot, Nic and his friends. I also like the introduction to the wolves and witches. Hopefully there will be a spinoff with them. I am glad there is a spinoff with Sébastien. I am looking forward to getting to know him better. I think he has a lot of potential.

A great series!!

I barely put these books down until I finished them completely! The ending of this book in particular was a fantastic way to end it (somewhat mild spoiler alert: It has a wonderful happy ending, and leads smoothly and wonderfully into a new series!). I never thought I'd be big into vampire novels (I think Twilight ruined me, so I avoided them, lol), but this has opened me up to it again! I highly recommend!

Good series, but...

I enjoyed this series. Great characters, good plot line, though at times the story became a little tedious.

However, as the books progressed, the editing got worse and worse. So many missing words, extra words and blatant errors! It got frustrating as the errors became more frequent. Nic tells Kyle to call... Kyle.

Better proofreading and editing would have earned a higher rating from this reader.

Here Comes the Train

I'm so glad I finished this book. I was struggling... a lot. Leia was a train wreck just waiting to happened. I mean, come on now. Vampires are after you and you want to go off on your own...(train wreck). You're trying to fight a seasoned vampire when you were just turned into one...(train wreck). Even when she was at the cabin and took off running only to be saved again...(train wreck).
