Maid for an Alien Prince

Rate this book
Listening length: 7 hours, 43 minutes

I won’t be forced into alien servitude.

I’ve spent my life mucking out the houses of the rich and famous. I know what they’re really like.
They think they can take whatever they want.
I learned that the hard way.

Royalty? They have got to be worse.
I’m not interested in any of them, not even an alien prince.
I was supposed to be heading to another planet for a one-year housekeeping contract.
Instead he bought me out.
Does he think he can own me?
I don’t want him.
I won’t submit to him.
So why is he so … nice?

Niall is unlike any rich guy I’ve ever known, but I still can’t trust him.
Not even when he treats me well.
He calls me his fated mate!
But he’s an alien prince and I’m a housekeeper.
We don’t belong together.
So why do I want to kiss him more than I want my next breath?

Hop on to the space ship for "Maid for an Alien Prince" where a smart and tough human housekeeper meets her fated mate in the form of an alien prince!

Girl lets herself be auctioned for alien maid service and then gripes because someone bought her contract.

Unfortunately, the author didn’t do the book any favours by making the girl a judgemental beech. She moans and whines and gripes endlessly in her inner monologues. Haughtiness pores through her thoughts and actions.

The prince acted like a servant instead of a prince. Showing the maid around, waiting around for her, buckling her in, summoning a maid for his maid, waking her up, etc. The prince wasn’t commanding. He more or less immediately fell into the helpless puppy persona, which I didn’t find appealing.

They eventually sort out their issues, but the story drags and lacks depth and imagination. By the time the girl is meant to redeem herself, the damage has been done and it is impossible to forget how she treated others during the first part of the book.

This was not good. I just didn’t like Brittany. I’m suppose to feel sorry for her but she’s an awful person. She’s jaded, hates rich people and can’t read. I mean she can BUT can’t. I only gave it two stars because it does a good job of introducing the other characters in the series and it’s a fast read. I read it in one sitting just now. But I was cringing the whole time. Also, that title!!! She’s a maid, get it?

I’m hoping this series gets better...but I think I’m stopping here.

This is the first book in a new series by Roxie Ray. Brittany is living a hand to mouth existence on Earth. The way things are going, she’ll never get ahead. She’s also in a catch-22; she despises self-entitled rich people but needs them in order to get work. Niall is an outgoing, amicable gentleman who happens to be a royal prince of his planet. He cares about those around him and the future of his planet. How can they be mates when she hates everything he stands for?

I’m giving this book only 2 stars for 2 reasons; 1) the female lead character is so unlikeable I found that I didn’t care what happened to her one way or another. OK we get that you don’t like rich people, but do you have to be such a bitch about it? When first meeting Niall, he is being nothing but kind and generous and you’re just a raging bitch. Ok, so you don’t trust people, WE GET IT, but about just a little common courtesy?

And 2) the writing, and plot, seemed a bit juvenile to me. This is odd to me, because I loved Ray’s Black Claw dragon series (although she does struggle with likeable female leads there too) and her Lunarian Warrior series is one of my favorites.

I’m going to give the next book a try. But honestly I couldn’t recommend this first one.

3 RATHER TEPID STARS

Brittany takes a job through the IEP (Intergalactic Exchange Program) to do housekeeping off planet to make more money and a better chance in life. Disdainful of the rich her preconceived judgments have her thinking the worse of her new employer - Prince Niall.

Overall an ok read, it was easy and light, it just didn't grasp my attention. I also wish the heroine had been more developed as a character.

Every once in a while you stumble upon a book whose cover is so ugly and strange, that you feel drawn to it. I thought the same. This looks like good alien smut. I thought the same, boy, was I wrong. Sex stops being sexy when it is 'necessary'.

Very predictable story
I did not like the heroine in the beginning but she sort of grew on me.
It didn't read much like an alien romance.

His heart beats for her

What a fantastic series starter! I absolutely loved the story and the characters! The author kept it interesting with the way the prince felt about Brittany, and the way that Brittany’s attitude changed as the story progressed. The storyline involved enough action and danger that I couldn’t put it down until the end. I really enjoyed the way the author gave us a glimpse at what comes next, and I can’t wait to read all about it.

It's a MEH story with unlikable heroine. She is extremely poor, but with arrogance and hate by boatload. She constantly complains that people who haired her cleaning services treated her like hired help. They were not rude or mean, yet it was not enough for her royal bitchiness. She is judgemental and unreasonable to extreme. She sells her services for a year, yet have the gall to be rude and petty to her new employer. Yes, it is reasoned as her having a bad experience with one wealthy ex boyfriend, yet author never expands on what was so terrible that he did to warrant our heroines attitude.
The world building is nonexistent. The alien planet, where the story is set, is basically Earth, just brighter and more colourful. Aliens inhabiting is just a pretty humans. There was no indication how they could be told apart from humans . Maybe the silver swirl in eyes was supposed to be the big difference? I don't know.
The story itself is pretty cliche. We get mate gene that ensures insta love. Unfortunately it does nothing for story. The protagonist is laughable and reader is basically left with no conclusion what punishment they will face.
Overall, I am not impressed.

Could have been better...

Recently I noticed in several books the heroine was very abrasive at the very beginning and in this book she was extremely extremely rude. I found it hard to like her character right from the start and then the one thing that I particularly hate is just as you're finally thinking about liking the character she goes and does something that is so blatantly stupid that you think like wow why did you have to make her that dumb? why'd you have to ruin the supposedly strong woman and make her do something that just made no sense at all and that was in this book. I was very disappointed in that plot line. This story needed more story and less sex. And perhaps more character development of the main female character.

I enjoyed this book a lot. It’s about a woman working as a maid on earth and she gets talked into applying for an intergalactic job as a maid, since she could earn way more through that. Because of bad experiences she decides to apply only for planets with only female inhabitants. So it’s not a pleasant surprise when she finds out the prince of Hollander purchased her contract and she now has to work for him for a whole year. Niall, the prince, however knows right away that she is someone special.
I loved this a lot. The two main characters were so freakin cute and adorable together and I love how they didn’t like each other at all in the beginning.
It was great following them in their journey to get to know each other better and it was cute how they fell in love. The whole mate things was great too. I like how they explained what consequences it has. Then there was the thing with our heroines “rival” which was kinde predictable but still enjoyable.
Overall I liked the characters, the writing was good, the story was great and I am so very much looking forward to read more books in this series.

An interesting start to a new series, I enjoyed this new series start! It's a new twist on human marketing to aliens, but voluntary this time, which made it fun to read. Because it's the first in the series, I expected a lot of exposition, but it tended to drag in parts that were easy to skim over. Brittany and Niall were a hard sell. She had a chip on her shoulder and he took his time figuring out what to do about her. There are some intense love scenes that were definitely and beautifully descriptive and finally, the outside conflict emerges! My only complaint would be the lack of resolution in regards to the bad guys, but maybe more will be revealed in future books? I'm looking forward to reading Kain's story next!

Cute story until 85% then you just lost me. Spoilers.

I didn't like the heroines bad attitude at the beginning and I didn't like how it all "suddenly" flared up at the end (which of course leads to her kidnapping-yawn- and her true feelings for the overbearing (hey her words not mine) man who took away her power. Yawn.

Not as mature as some of the previous books I have been reading, its nice to have people ask questions and solve problems rather than fuck like bunnies and not face the music...

Loved the fantasy world of Hollander- I would go there in a heartbeat.

Not bad

The story wasn't too bad. It was hard to like Brittany. She was always angry and defensive. I'm just glad it had a happy ending.

Where to start... I guess with my reluctance to give this book a try because of the whole alien thing, which isn't really a genre I've delved into.  I needn't have worried though because aside from brighter colours, unusual fruit and a bit of technology, the setting might as well have been Earth.  I have no idea when in time this is supposedly set.  Even the "alien" was basically a tall humanoid with different colouring.  To be honest I felt a bit cheated since there was a lot the author could have done with an alien world but just didn't bother. I can't even say that the love scenes were out of this world.

I read this book on the heels of another book by the same author which was pretty good, so I decided to give this one a shot.  Boy am I sorry.

I'm going to get my biggest gripe out of the way right away.  Brittany was an extremely unlikable heroine.  Maybe the author was going for strong and independent, if so, she missed the mark.  I didn't have much sympathy for her character and even at the halfway point in the story I kind of wanted Prince Niall to ship her ass back to Earth and find his real true love along the way.  Yes, she was that bad.  If I'm honest, I didn't immediately love her heroine in the other book I read but that story progressed quickly enough that it could be glossed over.  That is not the case with this woman.

Brittany, to this point in her young life has lived a life of poverty and drudgery.  She has a humongous chip on her shoulder and complains constantly in her internal monologue about all these asshole rich people she has had to work for and how they treat her like the hired help.  Uh, honey, you are the hired help.  No specific examples of terrible treatment were given (they ignored her and one particular rich guy broke her trust and heart in a very vague way) and it was left to the reader to imagine how horrible it must've been.  That really didn't work because unless you show or tell us a motive for her behaviour she just comes off as an abrasive, nasty, judgemental bitch.  At no point in the story is she redeemed, she gets less nasty, but not really likeable, which is the biggest shame for me because I can see how good this story could have been if differently executed.

Prince Niall on the other hand was utterly perfect as a hero, at least for me.  He was a delightful, patient, considerate, kind, smart, swoon-worthy lead.  Everything I could have asked for and more.  Despite Brittany's antagonistic attitude towards him from the minute they meet he doesn't lose his cool and shows his gallant character in all his interactions with everyone and everything around him.

This story was interesting and I kept reading until the end (I doubt I would have if the story were longer but it was a fairly quick read for me), but I didn't really enjoy my journey.  I was far more invested with the secondary characters than the lead female since she was so negative and suspicious of everything and everyone without a real reason, it really dragged the story down.  I may give the author another chance. though at this point I am in no hurry to do so since I am pretty sure we simply disagree about our ideal heroine and I'd rather try someone/something new.

Take it or leave it

The book was okay, read it if you have the time. I couldn’t get over the LF, kept being pulled out of the story by my dislike for her. Her complaining and lack of self awareness were too much. I didn’t get emotionally connected to any character and actually put the book down for a week before picking it back up to finish. It’s not terrible it’s just not as flushed out as it could be.

Painful. I listened to the book on audio. First, the book is competently written, it has a good storyline and sets the scene, but unfortunately as a romance, it has nothing. Nothing. It had the potential to be a great book. The bones of the story is/are great. The characters were medium Ok.
Sort of starts Ok. But delivered as a less than average story. An author has to love her characters. Has to!! If the author doesn't love her characters, no one else will either. The author missed some great chances at building the relationship between her characters - Nial could have asked "Briteney" (Worst name ever, EVER!) about her day and smiled at her. Her heart could have done a little flutter. No? All we hear is Nial saying he would love her for her character. What character? Her character is being a mental dumb b-tch, who hates rich people. And certainly wouldn't want to be one herself? even though the prince loves her, and what a bastard, he wants to marry her and look after her. Telling us how wonderful she is doesn't make her wonderful.
Why? Why? Why? and again why! The book is boring. Boring. It would have been more interesting to hear how she cleans the house, and then at least I would have had something to listen to. Don't worry our character is bored too. What will I do with my day, on a foreign planet with credit card and a chauffeur? what could I do! I'll give her a clue - anything!
The blurb about the book is incorrect and written that way to make the book seem more interesting than it is. Don't believe it.
When she hears that Nial has the mating thing for her and that to fix it she has to have sex with him, she says... Ok, you talked me into it. Then a few rounds of cliched sex. You suck me, I suck you. I didn't even bother listen to it.
Then when someone tries to kill her (I couldn't even get excited about that) she spends more time with the sexy body guard rather than the husband to be. When she gets shot at, she stands in front of the body guard, not letting him do his job, so that she could demand to know what happened. Dumb loud-mouthed b-tch. Far be it that I let you do your job and catch the person who shot at me.
When Briteney over reacts and gets angry of a sort of lie from Nial, I was swearing and angry at the really dumb b-tch. That was too much. Too bad, so awful. I turned it off and didn't finish the book.
This book is churn and burn by the author. She doesn't care about the quality or the standard of her books, just out to make another dollar. She doesn't even like these books. She is as bored as we are.

I have a thing for science fiction romance. It is always good to read another. The only pet peeves I had about this one was the insta-love he had for the girl because she was his mate. And the fact that this alien world filled with aliens seemed to exactly like Earth. Except for it was more colorful, they had transport pods, and they could order their food/clothing and it was delivered electronically. It would have been cool if they author could have played up the cultural differences between the two worlds. But if you want a quick sci fi romance you should check it out.

My Opinion

I just couldn't connect with this book. The heroine ruined it for me. How can you go work as a maid in a royal household and act like she did. She was rude, dismissive, and just a general pain for the majority of the book and then suddenly everything is ok ? Unbelievable. Can't recommend this book to anyone

Cinderella in space

Brittany is below poverty level. She'd have to look up to see it. Cleaning for many rich families keeps her rate at about survival mode. So, when she's approached at a client's home about the IEP, she scoffs but listens. A contract for labor, doing what she does now but on another planet, all expenses paid, and payment after her year is up of much more than what she could earn in several years on earth? Ok, maybe this is worth considering. She did the forms, picked her planets to have bid on her contract, and then...was told no one would take her. Her only choice was another planet or go home. Hollander. Not any of her choices, as she was looking for a matriarchal world being done with men in general. And maid to the crown prince of Hollander, at that. Joy. Like she hasn't dealt with enough entitled rich jerks already, right? But he was led to buy her contact after he saw her. Before he saw her even. This pull in his chest led him to her and he couldn't let her get away. Sure, what he did to get her to his planet wasn't exactly upstanding, but surely she'd forgive him when he explained he couldn't let her slip away...right?

Spoilers ahead.
So, misunderstandings abound. Her about him due to his station in life, him for thinking her rightful anger was her being judgemental. They get past it, and at least they finally learned to communicate. My biggest issue with this book is the "mean girl". A highly evolved species, and there's still cat fights? I would have loved a little world building, too. There's the things about the piercings that isn't really delved into. Also about the tattoos. Are they like human tattoos, or are they supposed to mean something? A little more background about the IEP would be nice, too. They literally hire for every service, from cleaning to surrogacy. The ones who choose to be breeders, do they leave the children after their contract is up? We meet a couple varieties of aliens, and get the lead in on the next book, but no in depth look at any of them. There's a lot of threads dangled but not woven into anything. Maybe more will be given in the next book? Mostly it felt a little like a Pride and Prejudice meets Cinderella sci-fi rewrite. It wasn't bad. It was a fast and fun read. It just leaves you looking for a little more depth. There's this world that has both instant shopping and delivery and a gorgeous open air market, a culture that we barely glance at, and technology that is supposed to be dazzling that we never really see. But the story moved forward, the dialogue didn't lag- even when she was giving the silent treatment lol, and the editing was good. And, the worlds mentioned intrigued me enough that I'll look for the next. Because I really am curious about how the IEP for started and all the various contracts available.

Was okay, but didn’t pull me in enough to continue forward

Let me start off by saying I’ve never read this author before. The book started off okay. Brittany is your typical human slaving away for others and Niall is your not so typical Prince on a distant planet who is next in line to rule and is definitely not looking for a mate. Brittany is definitely not looking to go off world and is also not looking for a mate. Guess they’re both in for a rude awakening eh? The beginning of the book is about misconceptions and misunderstandings and ignorance. Some of this could easily be solved by simple communication and just having an open mind. Also honest goes a long way folks, that’s always something to remember. For me the villain was very easy to spot so I just kept my eye on that person throughout the book for them to make their move. It was quite easy to spot the villains pawns as well. Brittany is a dense girl at times and plays into the villains hands and it’s like why? You’ve come so far in your relationship why go backwards just because you find something stupid out that no longer matters? Anyways, Brittany and Kiall do have good chemistry together even though they’re kinda pushed together because of the bond. I must admit I absolutely love Merida. She was so wonderful! Dina as well! Even though we only saw her the one time. She made a lasting impression on me. I have to admit though the characters kind of fell flat with me. I didn’t really fall in love with them. None of the, truly gripped me. So I’ve come to the conclusion that although I’ve given this book 4 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I will not be continuing the series at this time. I may or may not revisit in the future. Time will tell. Give it a whirl. It may spark your fancy.

I'm on chapter 18 and am not sure if I wanted to continue. It's far too monotonous. The female character seems more like a caricature (if that's even the correct adjective) then a realistic person. I read that Rosie Ray is a group of writer friends and not a single person. I wonder if they are all men. Their ability to create a realistic female human seems sadly lacking.

When here contract was bought out by the alien prince, she gave him the cold shoulder and silent treatment. Isn't that how women were portrayed in first part of the 20th century? Then as the story developed we get more of the same off and on. Another prominent female character (a member of the same race as t he Prince) is portrayed as a scheming conniving person. Doing whatever she needs to in order to get the prince to marry her. We haven't discovered yet if she is behind the attempts on the life of our would-be human princess. However, we do see her as being willing and able to manipulate those around her to get what she wants.

The male guards think nothing of her son as to allow her to get close enough to their human charge that she could dig her nails into her victims arms while she delivers her verbal poison. The male guards given them enough space that they can't hear the verbal exchange.

Its all just too much....

Brittany and Niall

Tired of working for less than a living wage on Earth Brittany is convinced to enter the Alien Exchange Program. She is fearfully of male Billionaires with little regard for the little people below them so she only selects women only or women controlled planets for her maid services to be auctioned.

Niall is walking through the airport when he’s pulled, by a forced he’s never felt before, over to the area where the Alien Exchange people are auctioned from. He recognizes that the blond woman is who he’s being pulled toward. He, for the first time, uses his power and position as Prince to secure her in the auction. He may need a maid but he’d bring Brittany home with him no matter what her skill was.

Brittany is unhappy to be locked into a year’s contract for a man, no matter how pretty he is. She proceeds to give him the silent invisible treatment no matter how nice he is.

I did not like Brittany. She auctioned herself off willingly and when she doesn’t end up where she expected she reacts like a sullen preteen.

It was an interesting world that’s built here with several characters that could have stories but please no more horrid characters like Brittany.

"When would I learn my lesson that the only person I could truly rely on was myself?"

Brittany is an independent, self-reliant woman living in a time when the gap between the haves and have nots, the rich and the poor is an ever enlarging chasm on Earth. The IEP offers the chance to live on other planets, to leave behind a third world lifestyle and income, and work in a first world society. It's a chance worth taking, right?

Niall is a Prince of Hollander, popular among his people because he listens, cares, walks among them... and works to make their lives and world better. But no guy is as great as that kinda hype says? Right?

This done in one Kindle Unlimited quick read has a relatively simple whodunit, complex enough to keep the pages turning and maintain interest, but not so intricate it draws attention away from the characters, and the lessons they are learning about assumptions, judging a book by its cover, honesty, and remembering to look for both the forest and the trees.
