This delightful magical story is the 2nd part of "The Witches of Vegas" series, from the author, Mark Rosendorf.
Although I haven't read the first part of this series, this YA fantasy story has captured my imagination right from the start, and although I'm an older-younger person I've thoroughly enjoyed this pure delight.
This story is wonderfully told by the author with a lyrical prose that is to be admired, combined with a lot of expression and verve, and the main characters involved in this tale are very lifelike and believable in their dealings with other humans, considering they are witches and vampires.
The story itself is about Isis, a witch, and Zack, a normal boy, living and performing with their family, consisting of father Sebastian, his wife Selena, and Selena's sister, aunt Sacha, in Las Vegas, as the Witches of Vegas, when disaster strikes Isis.
This disaster has been brought on to Isis by a dangerous and deadly enemy vampire called, Valeria, and this same Valeria will once again make her presence felt later on in the book.
Heading to New Salem as a last resort in an attempt to save Isis's life, everything will turn for the worse due to the malevolent Valeria, and that will end in a life and death struggle in which several people will lose their lives and for some life will forever change in character and nature, but who and what will exactly happen is for you reader to find out by reading this marvellous magical tale.
Overall this is an amazing witches and vampires tale, that is easy to follow and enjoy, and anyone who likes these kind YA fantasy stories should read this heartwarming witches, and that's why I would like to recommend this book by calling it: "A Wonderful Witchy Spell"!
** A massive thank you to the author for this digital copy, in exchange for an unbiased and honest review!**
Spellbinding, captivating, and enchanting, “Journey to New Salem” is a fast-paced adventure that readers will want to read front to back without pause.
The is a really wonderful sequel to the Witches of Vegas. We get to follow Isis and Zack after the events in the Witches of Vegas. Things are not going so well and the group are required to travel to New Salem. We are also introduced to some new and exciting characters. Can not wait to see where the author goes with this series. I would read the first book before starting with this one and I can guarantee you will not be disappointed.
This is the sequel to Witches of Vegas and is just as good. The world is so descriptive you feel transported there. The characters, old & new, are more developed and intriguing.
The Vegas magic show continues to be a huge success with one caveat. Isis's powers start to wane. That is a big problem. Not just for her but everyone. Her powers are so connected to the Earth that as a result it starts causing natural disasters.
Promptly Zack and Isis realize they need to find the coven of powerful witches to help Isis and the planet. So starts the Journey to New Salem.
Will they make it in time? Will the coven help? Grab the book and find out. You'll be glad you did. I recommend this book and I recommend reading Witches of Vegas first. Kudos to the author
I received an advanced reader copy of this novel in exchange for a review.
Journey to New Salem is the second installment in Mark Rosendorf's The Witches of Vegas series. When I read the first book in the series, I wasn't sure what to expect. Knowing that it was a YA of the fantasy variety, I thought I might like the book, but I wasn't sure. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the tale. This is to say, I cracked open Journey to New Salem with the expectation of a good yarn. I wasn't disappointed.
The story picks up with the witches back at their regular gig masquerading as ordinary magicians on the Vegas strip. Unbeknownst to them, Isis, a young and potent witch, is suffering from an undiagnosed disease. The ramification of this illness is that she has fits where she can lose control of her magical power––which is linked to her emotions. As the episodes get worse, the destruction she accidentally unleashes becomes devastating. Zack, an ordinary magician who is now a member of the coven and her boyfriend, warns her parents that something is wrong with Isis, but they cannot help her. They need help from medical experts with a flair for the supernatural; hence the quest to find New Salem, a hidden enclave of witches, begins.
Like in The Witches of Vegas, the narrative is primarily divided between Zack and Isis. As before, Zack is well characterized as a teenage boy. In Journey to New Salem, he tries to establish his identity as the one member of the coven who isn't a witch. As the story progresses, this struggle impacts the decisions he makes.
I found myself enjoying Isis more in Journey to New Salem than in the previous novel. Overall, her characterization is stronger. Despite spending a good portion of the story in the care of a "witch doctor" while suffering uncontrollable fits, she never seems like a damsel in distress or even a victim. Mark Rosendorf gets kudos for pulling this off. I don't think it was easy given that Isis is hospitalized for nearly half the story. Plus, looking at her character in the continuum of the entire series, I think her growth from a witch just learning to control her powers in the first book into a confident young woman with mastery of her magic is believable.
Hands-down Journey to New Salem is an excellent continuation of The Witches of Vegas series. It's a fast-paced read that is touching in places and has a few unexpected surprises that I appreciated. Highly recommended.
In a return to the world of the Witches of Vegas, this second book of the series continues where it left off. Isis and Zach and her family are performing their act, when Isis begins to have spells where her magic careens out of control. Mayhem ensues and her parents look for a way to heal her. Nothing seems to work. While the family always thought they were the only witches, it turns out that Zach has found another community of Witches isolated in Europe called New Salem. The family decides to take Isis to them to see if she can be healed. It turns out that they will need to invoke the help of Valeria, the Witch they exiled to another dimension to help them. The story unfolds from there. It takes some twists and turns and successive acts of bravery by Zach and the family and those in New Salem to bring resolution to the story. I was drawn into the book and really like the protagonists and characters. They are a true family when it counts. My only let down was the ending, which seemed a bit too outlandish for me, but it is a fantasy, after all.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
When I saw that this was book 2 of The Witches of Vegas series, it’s safe to say, I did a little happy dance around the house. I enjoyed this book more than the first, which is extremely impressive as I loved the first book! Shout out Mark for writing PERFECTION! I really enjoyed the fast-paced nature of this book! The action and drama was fantastically written and I miss it already! I would definitely recommend this book to any YA Fantasy fanatics like myself.
I was given a review copy of the book from the author for an honest review Wow. A great Read and none stop action This book follows on from the first book but one year on As with the first book there is plenty of action, is well written and had me hooked right from the first page. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend it I admit the fantasy is not my usual choice, but encourage you to try this book
This was a great sequel to The Witches of Vegas. My favorite character is Isis and I was saddened that to suffer from seizures and her powers are not working. It does take a lot of energy out of her and hoping to heal her so she can get well again. I was very intrigued by this fast paced book and I enjoyed reading this book.
This was such a great continuation of the Witches of Vegas story!! It's very engaging, action-packed, heart-warming, tragic, and enchanting. I couldn't put this book down. I love how the story continued with Isis and Zack's love story. I greatly enjoyed the unpredictability. There were a few wonderful unexpected twists. The ending was so wonderful, twisted, and oddly realistic. I'm looking forward to book 3: Witch's Gamble.
Thank you The Wild Rose Press, Inc and Mark Rosendorf for the free copy through Goodreads Giveaway.
Isis and Zack along with their family are back in this story about trying to save Isis who is having seizures that are causing destruction. Figuring what is wrong with her brings them to open the portal again and this time it will not be very easy and things will change for the Witches of Vegas.
A page-turner! This novel takes you on a fantastic journey. I couldn't stop reading till the end. I hope there will be more in the series. The author created a fantastic world and I applaud him for it.
Journey to New Salem is the second instalment in the Witches of Vegas series. The story continues a year on from the battle to save the world. I would read the first book before this one (just my opinion), although you could probably get the idea of what has happened from a few things mentioned. If you’re going to read the first one now, stop reading this. Zack and Isis are the main characters in this instalment, the story is told from their point of view. As in the first book their show ‘The Witches of Vegas’ is still the most popular one on the strip. Zack has been welcomed into their coven with open arms. Fulfilling a promise to his uncle that they would look out for him and keep him out of harm's way. Not so easy when the witch you happen to be dating has the potential to become the most powerful witch ever and can set fire to things without realising – gives another meaning to nights of passion. Unbeknown to her family, and even Zack, Isis has been feeling unwell for the past year. She didn’t want to worry about her family so didn’t tell anyone. Why is she feeling ill? Is it a problem with her powers? No one knows until Isis ends up in hospital after a bad episode at a club. Her family are worried but now are also in trouble themselves. They didn’t exactly adopt Isis through the correct channels all those years ago (read the first book, explains it all). I love guessing what could happen further in a book and managed to guess the mystery illness inflicting Isis. Let’s just say my jaw hit the floor when it was revealed. I am not going to give any spoilers here – you will have to read it. With the hospital not being able to help, the sisters (Sacha and Selena) remember a group from their childhood who left to create a new world where they could practice magic and not be in fear of their lives. Could this place still exist? Could it be the answer they are looking for before Isis has another turn/episode and she kills any more innocent people? It’s worth a try. Not being a witch Zack feels powerless to help but manages to find the exact location they need to teleport themselves there. Further in the book it is again Zack who steps up (in a fashion, after all, he had been told to stay put), and helps to find the ‘cure’ for Isis. This way is better for them all in the long run. Once ‘The Witches of Vegas’ have the help they need and save Isis what will become of them now that they are a member down? Perhaps New Salem is the place they need to help both Zack and Isis come to terms with their newfound identities. But will it come at a price or can they keep their family together? Who is the witch from Jasper’s vision? The Immortal witch – will it become Isis, gaining more power as the days go by or her foe… Valeria? Have we seen the last of her? There are some new and very interesting characters introduced to us (I love Simon – my new favourite), and a couple who we have met before (and thought we had seen the last of) in Journey to New Salem. As with the first book, number two has lots of action, is well written and had me hooked right from the very beginning. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend it. Having read the blurb for the third instalment I cannot wait to see how Isis and Zack’s story continues (and I am not going to reveal any details here… but I do hope Luther can make an appearance), I am very much looking forward to reading it.
I received a complimentary copy and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Isis, a young witch, enjoys performing on stage with her family, The Witches of Vegas, in their regular sold-out show in Vegas. With the added appearance of her boyfriend, life couldn’t be better. But when she experiences a series of unexplained seizures, this time the group of witches can’t heal her using magic.
After considerable deliberation and soul-searching, her coven family suggests the only strategy they can think of. They recall a town in Sweden acting as a kind of refuge and haven for witches, New Salem. Surely they will identify what to do before her time runs out!
This is the second book in The Witches of Vegas series by Mark Rosendorf and one I enjoyed it immensely.
The story opens immediately, bringing the reader into the plot and proceeds at a consistent pace with each event unravelling and flowing into another. Invested in the novel from the beginning, it became impossible to put it down until the outcome! I especially admired the individuals and events being introduced and presented anew to anyone who is encountering these characters for the first time, so it isn’t crucial to have read the first book. I would encourage you to do so, as I always prefer to start at the beginning; that’s just my preference.
Undoubtedly, I enjoyed this book much more than the first in this series. Although I did like the first, I felt the scenario was ever so slightly predictable, but with this; I was not expecting the plot! Or for certain occurrences, which I won’t mention because I don’t wish to include spoilers.
The author has nicely continued the theme of YA fantasy. I appreciated the characters more being further developed and more realistic than the first book. The narrative does still revolve mainly around Isis and her boyfriend, who is also a newly initiated coven member, but the alternative members of the family are often present to support and guide the pair.
Journey to New Salem is a smooth, enjoyable read and I recommend it to all fantasy lovers
Thank you to Booktaster's and Mark Rosendorf for the opportunity to read and review. I rate Journey to New Salem 4 out of 5 stars.
Journey To New Salem is the second book in The Witches of Vegas series and it picks up a year after the first book The Witches of Vegas left off with teen witch Isis Rivera and teenage magician, Zack Galloway. Isis, her parents, and Zack run a magic show in Vegas. They are known as The Witches of Vegas. People everywhere recognize them.
Isis has been keeping a secret from her parents. Isis has been getting ill lately she didn’t want to tell her parents as she didn’t want to worry them but when she starts having seizures she can no longer hide her illness as the seizures are very violent and are causing Isis to lose control of her powers which is proving to be catastrophic. Isis is a very powerful witch more so than anyone knew.
Isis’s parents can’t heal her themselves so therefore need the help of other witches. In their search for other witches, they discover a new town hidden away from everyone. Zack, Isis, and her parents set out on a quest to find this village of witches in a town known as New Salem.
Journey To New Salem is a fast-paced read and once I picked it up I lost all control and my surroundings as I was pulled deeper and deeper into its depth with twists that spiraled out of control and never let up from front to back. Each book just seems to get better and better as each page is turned. I felt as if I was right there with Isis pulling for her the whole way.
I could see it all playing out in my head as if I was standing beside each character and observing what they saw or experienced. I liked getting the story from both Isis and Zack’s points of view. I like seeing the story play out through their eyes. I can’t wait for the next installment to this wonderful series to see what is waiting for each of our characters, Zack and Isis.
As always I highly recommend Journey To New Salem to all fans of magic and witches. One-click your copy of this magical story, Journey To New Salem today!
Thank you to Mark Rosendorf for sending me an ARC to read and review.
Journey to New Salem by Mark Rosendorf is the follow-on, Teen/Young Adult paranormal novel, to The Witches of Vegas that I read and reviewed a few months ago.
In the first book, the two main characters, Isis and Zack, along with Isis’ adopted witch family thwart an attack on the world by a powerful immortal witch, Valeria. The continuation of the story; Journey to New Salem, takes place a year later. The witch’s amazing Vegas show has grown in popularity and the budding romance between Zack and Isis has grown much deeper and stronger.
When Isis becomes mysteriously ill causing her witchy powers to become unpredictable and dangerous, her family must find other witches to help save their daughter. Their only hope lies in the secret village of New Salem. Seeking a cure leads the family to encounter a less than enthusiastic welcome from the hidden witch community and another run in with the one immortal witch they had all hoped they had seen the last of.
Can the family and people of New Salem survive the wrath of Valeria and will Zack be able to pay the ultimate sacrifice in order to save his love?
Rosendorf has once again created a fast paced story filled with action and drama. The tale is told from the perspective of both Zack and Isis, giving the reader a dual view of the story as the chaos unfolds.
The underlying messages of good overcoming evil, and the importance of family comes across strongly in this paranormal story
I will admit that I was not quite as gripped by this second installment from Rosendorf as I was with the first one, although I found it to be a great read, with enjoyable characters and some unexpected twists. I would highly recommend that if you have read The Witches of Vegas that you continue on to finish their story.
It was a joy to read Journey to New Salem by Mark Rosendorf. Once again, I was able to follow his excellent cast of characters from the first book in the series The Witches of Vegas. Both books held my attention, but this second book blew me away. There truly was no lag time in the action, and my heart even went into overdrive a few times. Just when I became lulled into a semblance of calm, or what you think is calm, something else happens. Sebastian, Selena, Sacha, and Zack—with the wonderful traits I fell in love with before—are all cemented in one desperate goal to save Isis from dying. To do so they must find out what illness is plaguing her and seek out a cure. With Isis’s health deteriorating at a rapid rate they take a Journey to New Salem, where some of the oldest living witches in the world reside. The cure for what ails the youngest witch upon discovery sends an ominous fear throughout their little band of witches. It seems the only way they can heal Isis is to confront Valeria, an enemy they imprisoned in another world over a year ago. The half witch and vampiress must complete the vampiric turn she started on Isis the last time they met. However just finishing the procedure could be deadly not only for Isis but another family member as well. There is truly never a dull moment in this book. It’s action, action, and more action followed by an emotional rollercoaster which will give you a fantastic ride with The Witches of Vegas as they take a journey that will astonish readers. I think if I understood correctly the author has another book coming out, not sure when, but I’d love to get my greedy little hands on book three of this series. My reviewer hat is off in respect to Mark Rosendorf. Thank you for a superior read!
I received a copy of this story in exchange for an honest review.
I absolutely adored the first book in this series, so it’s no surprise that I had to dive right in as soon as I could. Sure it might have taken me about a month to get this review out, but I can promise you that I read this story almost right away. And I enjoyed it immensely.
Isis and her coven underwent some crazy events in this story. While the base storyline of this story was simple and straightforward, the secondary plot lines took some turns that I didn’t see coming. I enjoy a story that can surprise me.
The characters were still fascinating and badass – especially Isis and Zack. Selena and Sacha showed that they were more powerful than even Isis thought, Sebastian even more dedicated to his family. The decisions they were able to make showed maturity and and bravery most people (myself included) can only reach through reading about other peoples’ bravery and maturity.
While I enjoyed the first book more than this one, I still enjoyed every second I was in this world. The ending of this story left me wondering where this story would go next, and my mind certainly started spinning. Personally, I think that when a book can keep my mind occupied even after I’ve read the last page, that’s a good read.
: I actually enjoyed this one more than the first one, I believe because I knew the characters already and knew what was going on. Although it is a stand-alone, I strongly suggest you read “The Witches of Vegas” first so you understand what is happening better.
In this one, Isis is sick and nobody can figure out why. The family seeks out a fabled village of witches—New Salem—hidden in Europe somewhere. When they discover what is happening to Isis, they attempt to formulate a plan to save her before she dies. Unfortunately, their plans go awry when they come once again face-to-face with Valeria.
There is much anguish in this story, especially toward the end (I was crying – thanks a lot!), but that means the author grabbed me and pulled me. I cared about the characters. I cared what was happening. And the only way to do that is to write a good book. Which this is.
Recommendation: Read “The Witches of Vegas” first, then go on to this one. You won’t be sorry. But definitely read them both. They are worth the price and the time. Recommended.
Disclaimer: I received a final and/or advanced reader copy of this book with the hope that I will leave my unbiased opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that… My Opinions. This second book in the Witches of Vegas series was great and dare I say my favorite of the two. We continue with their story picking up a year after the showdown with Valeria, the evil witch turned into vampire. The witches of Vegas show is lit and the sweet romance between the teen witch Isis and Zack, the magician they added to the coven, continues to blossom. Everything seems right with the world until Isis starts having strange episodes of seizures that cause her wiccan powers to go haywire and begin causing the world around her to erupt into random earthquakes and fires. The cure might be in a place called New Salem that may or may not exist. Or the answer may lie with Valeria. What price will come of their journey to save Isis and essentially again try to save the world?
This was another very emotional read and so well written, well defined with wonderful characters. I have enjoyed this series and am looking forward to continuing it with the third installment releasing shortly. I love that this series is labeled as a young adult nove. Normally I don't read them, but this one has totally sucked me in. I think all ages could enjoy it. It's a very captivating and intense adventure from page one to the end.
In the first book of this series, The Witches of Vegas, Isis, a 9 year old, discovers that she is a witch and joins a levitation stage act. She meets Zach, a magician who entertains with card tricks, and the two become attracted to each other. They team up to battle Valeria, a powerful vampire, who ends up banished to another world. In this sequel, Journey to New Salem, Isis is afflicted by an unknown malady and is transported to New Salem, Sweden, to find a cure. It turns out that in her battle with Valeria, Isis was scratched and infected with vampire blood. Zach, the witches Isis met in the first book, and Sebastian, Isis's surrogate father, team up to once again confront Valeria, but this time it's to discover the secret to save Isis - they must change her into a vampire.
This book is a bit longer than the first, but equally entertaining, equally easy to read, and would no doubt be of interest to fans of magic, witches and vampires.
The Witches of Vegas are back and find themselves in quite a few pickles. It’s been a year since the Witches of Vegas saved the city from the evil Wiccan vampire, Valeria. Things are marching along nicely for their show and, in the romance department, for Isis and Zack. That is, until they don’t.
Seizures, fires and earthquakes, a fabled village of witches, actions and their consequences are a sampling of what our coven family undergo. Granted the story has a somewhat HEA (literally) ending but not without loss and life changing events.
From my perspective, it was just a bit too much happening in the book but I can see the target young adult audience enjoying this latest instalment of the Witches of Vegas in the paranormal urban fantasy genre. I received a complimentary copy of the book for a fair review.
Pearl Clutcher Ratings: Romance: 3 Language: 1 Violence: 2
This book continues the journey of Isis, the teenage witch, Zach, the magician's apprentice, and the rest of their magical coven. This next step in their story focuses more on the witches and their fight against Valeria, which helps provide some backstory to the world of witches in general. The main downside to that is that the witches move on from Vegas, which means less focus on magic tricks and more focus on, you know, survival.
(We received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.)
*I received a copy of this book in exchange for a fair review*
Amazing! Every great thing about the first novel made its way perfectly into this one, I am so happy to have read it! The world continues to develop around you the further you read and I love the expanse as the characters travel to New Salem in search for powerful coven members.
One qualm I had with the first novel was the underdevelopment of some side characters, but this novel seems to have expanded on them a little more, I am still very interested to see where the story takes all these characters in the overarching plot.
Much like the first novel this book is quite easy to read and has a fairly fast-paced plot which allows for it to be quick and comprehensive. I appreciate the writing style and can see that Rosendorf is a fairly confident author. I am so glad to have read this and I can't see what the author has next.
A tale of the witches of Las Vegas and their path to a new place called New Salem. This is the second book in the series and continues on the same timeline as the first in the series. The witches and their magician addition- Zack, to their coven and their Las Vegas show are facing a new crisis - Isis is ill and they need help from the New Salem hidden witch community to keep her ‘among the living’.
The journey is not without complications and a few battles and unexpected detours occur. Leaving Las Vegas behind becomes a must when the authorities have finally placed Isis as a child that went missing when she was 9.
In the end of the tale in book two, we see a much different world and our main characters have evolved and some have become something else entirely.
A year has passed since The Witches of Vegas saved the city from the evil Wiccan vampire, Valeria. This was the first book in the series, and if you are not in I would suggest purchasing the Vegas and the New Salem book. Since then, the show has hit an all-time high. And the relationship between Isis Rivera and teenage magician, Zack Galloway has continued to grow. But for some reason Isis has developed seizures causing her magic to spiral out of control. Some of her family travels to New Salem having been told a fabled group of witches lives there. Will they be able to save Isis? I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Journey to New Salem by Mark Rosendorf is a young adult paranormal urban fantasy that I listened to on audio narrated by Jeffery Lynn Hutchins. This is the second book in The Witches of Vegas series.
I don't want to give any spoilers away. So, I will say that Mark did a great job pulling me in from the first chapter. I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. I can't wait to dive into the next book in the series Witch's Gamble.
Jeffery did a great job on the narration. I look forward to listening to more of his work in the future.
I would recommend this book if you like teen and young adult books, paranormal, or urban fantasy.
