Samantha Moon is back and doing what she does best: solving crime, finding killers, and helping those who can't help themselves...

For years, Samantha Moon has wanted to be normal. It seemed an impossible dream—right up until it happened.

Well, sorta happened; after all, normality is a relative thing for a vampire detective.

With the final defeat of Elizabeth, Sam's world was rocked again. She lost her wings, her ability to read minds, and a particularly handy sword. Most important, though, is what she gained: an adopted daughter.

That said, nothing can take away her uncanny ability to solve crimes and catch the bad guy.

Now, after opening a new downtown office with the help of her daughter (who now works with her), a seemingly routine case walks in the door that soon proves that in Sam's life, nothing is ever simple. The death of a local importer/exporter appears on the surface to have been natural, but not everyone is convinced, especially a suspicious sister. Before long, Sam's got more suspects than answers, and worse, the killer knows she's closing in..

Entertaining vampire listening 🎶🔰

Another will written vampire paranormal fantasy world 🌎 haunting horror adventure thriller novel by J. R. Rain ☔ and Matthew S. Cox (Vampire for Hire Series book 23). Samantha Moon 🌙 Detective Agency takes on lots of different types of work plus a murder mystery investigation. Tammy is working at the detective agency doing lots of the paper work stuff while Samantha is working on the murder mystery. It is not going well until the wife has the body exhumed. The husband was poisoned but by whom? Samantha works out the why and whom. I would recommend this series and author to 👍 readers of paranormal fantasy adventure novels 👍🔰. Enjoy the adventure of reading 👓 or listening 🎶 to Alexa read books 📚. 2023 👒😉😀🌙

The Vampire for Hire Series is excellent. Happy reading in 2023 🌙. Thanks JR

Moon 23

Samantha Moon by J.R.Rain and Matthew Cox is a pretty good story. I was lost on Sam and Tammy losing their power. I didn't read how Anthony lost his power also. A big blank.

Great Book

Thoroughly enjoyed this book, I'll admit that a couple of times I had to put it aside. As someone who has M.S. and got it later in life, I've had that rapid decline in mobility so seeing it in a series I love made it even more real to me. Loved it job well done.

Samantha is enjoying her life now that Elizabeth is no longer around. Their lives have changed so much. Samantha is working as a PI out of an office space she leased. Tammy is working with her now. She is has a case that she was hired for that she can't seem to making any head way in. Samantha calls a few people from her past to help guide her in her answers. Samantha will also have some family issues she has to deal with as well.

This reboot I have to get use to, honestly. It is really different than the what it was. I am sad that some of the story lines are cut off and characters are gone. I really am hoping that the author brings the characters back. I love the Samantha Moon series, just felt like it was missing something.

Hmmmm…

Nice, but to easily wrapped up. Still glad there is a Tam Tam and Ant. And Paxton is a very nice addition. Just kinda want her to be a little more then two dimensional. Maybe add her in on the witches triad?

Ugh

* spoilers ahead!

So, I have a few things that need to be said. For one, there were several inconsistencies in this book compared to the others. In this book, Sam talks about Tammy leaving Wendy's and coming to work for her. In a previous book, she said she left Wendy's and started working for a grocery store (I believe). However, there's no mention of another job at all. Just leaving Wendy's and going to work for her, not a major inconsistency but one none the less. Next, what's the deal with Anthony? Max pushed so hard for him to go to the new school, yet when it comes to him suddenly deciding not to go, there's nothing said about it. I find it hard to believe after so much pushing, nothing was done to try and keep him there. They know he's an Angel in training, so why invite him if going there won't offer him what he needs? Max is smarter than that. Lastly, there's talk of Sam never meeting Tammy's boyfriend, maybe he wasn't real, etc. However, in a precious book, she met him!!! I've come across a few inconsistencies in other books, but nothing like this. I do not like where these books are heading. The fact Sam is just nothing after her fight seems unbelievable. There's never been any talk of her losing her abilities, nor Tammy losing her. There was no real explanation. Just really frustrated with the path these books are taking. I will read one more and if it stays the same, I won't continue.

Sam has to rescue a young girl from her Arab father who’s kidnapped her from her American mother. After dying (and coming back), she wants some quiet time with no danger. But then she accepts a case from the sister of a man with manageable MS who has a rapid decline and dies. The sister suspects foul play and Sam senses that something paranormal is going on.

Fave scenes: escaping the yacht, Katrina’s care for her grandmother, the little fur balls, the dripping water and Sam’s bath buddy.

The book was good

It would be a good book if I hadn't read 22 books with a badass angelic vampire dragon mom that can do mental gymnastics, teleport, and all kinds of stuff. I suppose it could be my fault for having expectations. But 22 books people! This is a pretty good detective novel, but that's not what I set out to read. I guess there's no point in me reading #24

Wicked Moon

I think this is one of my favorite in the series. Although so far I have the whole series, I dislike the little inconsistencies but there are few of them...this book kept me on my seat, truthfully I new it was the partner until the name Turnbull came up then I questioned my theory, so your outcome was great!!!!

Moon never disappoints!

After getting over the initial surprise of Sam losing/returning the most powerful weapons in her arsenal, I now really enjoy reading how she relies on her remaining supernatural powers (bullet in the heart, anyone?) plus her innate intuition to fight bad guys and solve crimes.

Wonderfully imaginative series

The imagination used to create these books is impressive but weaves in daily life activities that we all can relate to or understand. This book captivated my interest throughout due to a enjoyable writing style & encourages me to wish I had a pair of my own wings.

Ready for the next one!

I actually liked this book better than the latest too far out there Samantha Moon books! I love her as a mom and supernatural without the wings and sword, it makes her more relatable. I am looking forward to the next one!

Feels very different

I did think with the end of Elizabeth it would have been a good finale for this series. However I was pleasantly surprised how invested I feel about the new ‘normal’ for Sam and the kids. I look forward to reading the next.

Pretty Good, but not the best Samantha Moon book

I thoroughly enjoyed the story, but it almost seemed like two short stories sewn together, but still enjoyable, especially the 2nd story

very different

The new Moon saga dragged...Jumping straight into the family is all normal now, Sam lost most of her special ability. No Max, No secret room at the library, it
didn't flow from the end of the last book. The case dragged after all the other books.

***SEE EDIT FOR SECOND EDITION REVIEW***

I LOVED this series but now I will never read another book in the Samantha Moon series ever again. The changes that were made in this novel felt like a slap in the face and disrespect of a series I’ve come to know and love. It was a complete 180. Everything I was looking forward to or had hoped to see were completely erased as if they never existed at all. Literally. And then shrugged off as an oh well that’s that.

I was pleased to see that she returned to investigations but everything else was so upsetting it was difficult to read. Honestly I’m heart broken and in my mind this series ended after Moon Elder because this book reads like sloppy AU fan fiction and I’ve read better fan fiction.

1/14/22 EDIT: The author actually listened to feedback and completely revised this novel because of this I have agreed to read more & revise this review from a 1 star… but I debated between 3 and 4 stars.

2.0 of this novel is a fair compromise and while some points may have still felt like lazy writing- it’s no where near as sloppy as 1.0. There were definitely things retconned however, but things were fairly explained and entire characters weren’t disappeared. It definitely comes across as a reboot rather than a nuke. More of a well made fan fiction but is lacking aspects of Sam Moon Cannon that made sense. None the less I have forgiven JR. Plus the story line itself is solid mystery novel. Now I am willing to see where this goes.

If you read this - make sure it’s the second edition. Leave the original edition in the trash. But the second edition is worth a read.

I remember reading the first Vampire for Hire book and realizing at the time there were 20 out, thinking I'm really enjoying the book but I did not think I would read them all, how wrong I was. Two weeks later I had finished them all. I found myself looking to see if another was being released , I was quite happy to see I only had 2 days to wait !!! Of course my eyes were happy to have a two day rest. Now about the books, to me they were a total joy to read , Samantha Moon is one of my top ten characters, I find when I'm telling other people about the books I get very animated .
Samantha Moon is a fiercely loving mother (yes really DO NOT mess with her children) , she is smart, no-nonsense, determined, caring, a defender ..... a butterfly.
Yes she is a Vampire, a very Badass Vampire ,sorry you'll have to read the books to understand the butterfly reference.
What I like about the books is there are more than one story in each book , you have supernatural mixed in with mystery, action, fiction and the most mundane things ,like household chores. Who can't relate to that ?
Truly enjoyable entertaining stories , each different with some common threads one being her love and devotion to family and friends .
