John Tyler #2

White Lines

Rate this book
An international drug cartel started the fight.

John Tyler will finish it.

Tyler is back to work as a classic auto mechanic. When a young woman—and car enthusiast—brings her vintage Porsche in for some work, Tyler is glad to talk shop with her.

When she never returns for her car, he wonders what’s going on.

His daughter Lexi doesn’t want him to investigate. Something bothers Tyler about what happened, though, and he’s determined to uncover what happened to the mysterious woman from the shop.

The twists and turns of her life soon put Tyler in the path of a brutal drug cartel. They’re establishing a foothold in Maryland and show no mercy to anyone who gets in their way.

Tyler’s quest will take him far out of state and put him directly in the path of the group's most sinister killers. How far will he go to stop the shadowy group, and what price will he—and those close to him—pay?

White Lines is the second novel in the John Tyler series. It’s perfect for readers who take their thrillers with lots of action, a little heart, and a little humor.

John Tyler, a man who just can Not stay sitting there watching when a wrong is committed. No matter Who is doing the wrong. Working in his job as a mechanic, a young woman brings in a nice car, however the next day some rough men arrive demanding it back! Something seems off...Then he finds that the woman has been murdered. The cops are not bothering with it, no one seems to care, But John does, and just can't leave it alone! He may be in some real hot water this time,as the Cartel is involved!
Fabulous characters, amazing action, family, love and so much more. John has put himself and his family in the sites of some dangerous people, will their own skills keep them safe?! I thoroughly enjoy this new character and look forward to more adventures ahead!

I won this book in a goodreads drawing.

John Tyler is working as a mechanic in a classic car garage. When a porshe driving young woman arrives, wanting her car tuned up. Turns out, her boyfriend is in a cartel, and the car was used to transport drugs.

When the boyfriend finds out she took the car to the wrong shop, he kills her. John Tyler gets angry, and starts waging a war against the cartel. Meanwhile, his daughter receives emails from her incarcerated, criminal mother.

It's the sections with the daughter that separates this from just another one-man-army book.

Another pretty decent read in a very relatable series. The characters are presented in an understandable fashion that is relatable to the reader. The plot moves fairly quickly if not a little predictable. The violence is not over the top but gives the reader a feeling of reciprocity towards the situation. The main character almost has "Jack Reacher" like qualities. A former military person stepping up where the situation calls for somebody to stand up for the weak. Usually used in a reactive mode as opposed to a pro-active mode. I look forward to reading more from this author.

White Lines with John Tyler as an extremely determined protagonist is well-written and very entertaining. It has lots of suspense, danger and surprising twists. It also contains violence aimed at the bad guys. I highly recommend it and hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Disclaimer: I received this ARC from the author and this is my honest and unsolicited opinion.

I read this book because I had read the previous ones in the series, and I am somewhat familiar with the location: Baltimore and Maryland. In keeping with my motto that I read anything and everything, I frequently I have occasion to read books that are not what I would recommend to my friends and family. This book is one of them; I don't let that affect the rating that I give. I took one star off; the book could use some editing to clean up awkward sentences. There is also a comment made by one of the characters about gay people, which I consider in bad taste, and not necessary to the story, or the character. Otherwise, the book is well-written and can be read as a stand-alone. I would recommend starting with the prequel and Book 1, so that you get the whole picture. There is an ending that wraps up the story. The characters are unique and described in a way that they are memorable. I was able to read the book without have to write down names in my notes to keep track of the characters.
I am alerting readers that this is a book where the protagonist, John Tyler who is a custom car mechanic, operates outside the law for purposes of revenge against a drug cartel. Because of this, I would rate the violence as R rated because it is very chaotic, descriptive, and brutal . . .and sometimes takes the reader by surprise. A lot of dead bodies are are the result. There is some torture. Tyler also involves his young adult daughter in this activity This kind of story seems to be very popular with readers. I have been reading 4 similar books to this one so far this year, all having to do with the drug trafficking. And several are best sellers. So, if this is the kind of entertaining book is what you are looking for, you will not be disappointed.
Some locations/settings: [Maryland: Baltimore (Northern Parkway, Taylor Avenue, Belair Rd., Rt. 43 and I-95, Kabob Stop take-out food, Daily Grind Coffee Shop in Fells Point neighborhood), Bel Air, Overlea, Aberdeen, Perry Hall, Harford County Sheriff’s Office in Edgewood, Talbot Lakes (fictional neighborhood) near Bel Air off Rt. 543, Columbia (Clyde’s Restaurant), Conowingo Dam, Cecil County, Rosedale, Southern Maryland Airpark (fictional), Kingsville, White Marsh; Virginia: Pentagon; Texas: Houston, Astro Airfield – Iron Tower (fictional)]

This book is nothing short of fantastic! Even if you are not familiar with the characters, it is very easy to get to know them and fall right into the story. One of the characters is a cross-over from another book, but other than that, all of the characters and personalities are crystal clear and well developed.

Never a spoiler in my reviews here's what you need to know: If you love a fast-paced, action-packed thriller, this one is for you. John Tyler is a kick-ass and take no names, former military guy who does his best to make things right for those that he believes have been wronged. If you are sensitive and don't like violence, death, and just ugly things in general, don't bother, this is not the book for you.

Tyler's methods might be questionable, but he gets the job done. All in all a well-told story that moves along at such a good clip it is hard to find a stopping point. Snarkiness, sharp wit, and humor are well placed in this non-stop page-turner that you really shouldn't miss. He enlists some old friends (and new) to help him deal with a Mexican drug cartel who is not only doing VERY bad things, but they've set up in the wrong area. There is also a softer side to Tyler that surfaces which clearly justifies his means to the end. There is a touch of romance and some family drama as well, that make this such a well-rounded book! If you pass this up, you'll be missing out on a really good read.

Lot’s of Action and a little humor thrown in!
A masterpiece and the second book in the John Tyler series the first being the Mechanic but this can be read as a one off read.
The story is about a retired army man who had problems with PTSD but now works as a mechanic at Smitty’s repairing classic cars. He’s asked to take a look at a customer’s vintage Boxer Porsche by a young pretty lady called Alice who never returns and the next day turns up dead. Unbeknown to Tyler at the time Alice is girlfriend of Rodolfo who is a cousin Hector a Cartel boss setting up shop in Maryland. Her demise was all due to taking the Porsche into Smitty’s garage. Tyler wants to find out why and is warned off but he is determined to find out and do what he does best; get justice.
Meanwhile his daughter Lexi who is entering colleague and all those around him lives are put in danger “the gloves come off” and Tyler uses all the deadly skills he learnt in the army which he thought he had left behind come in handy!
With the help of an old friend called Rollins and also a specialist in South American Narcoterrorism called Lorenzo things start to get very hot for the drugs cartel.
All those close to Tyler are brought into the danger zone so how far will John Tyler go?
Very enjoyable, easy to read thriller with some humour and heart. Recommend this to all thriller readers.

John Tyler is back and finds trouble again! Still working for Smitty’s Classic Car Repair, when a beautiful redhead brings a Porsche Boxter in for some work the story starts to unfold quickly. When her boyfriend calls to pick up the car the next day, both Tyler and Smitty smell a rat which indeed there is. Then, when it is discovered that the beautiful redhead has been murdered, Tyler makes it his business, as is his way, to facilitate justice for her murderers. This means locking horns with a Mexican drug cartel and brings with it a great deal of violence, brutality and an entertaining story line.
A number of attempts are made to kill both Tyler and Smitty, and Tyler cops a couple of beatings from a giant of a Mexican cartel gang member. He eventually needs to have daughter Lexi, in the middle of her first semester of college, and still living with Tyler, move out for her safety, and go and stay with his father, Zeke. Tyler eventually enrols the assistance of long-time associate, Rollins and away the trail of violence and retribution goes.
The story includes Tyler’s burgeoning love Sara, and Lexi’s imprisoned mother seeking Lexi out for a visit. There are plenty of characters in this story and it flows really well making for a great yarn. It will be a worthwhile read for thriller readers.

I received an ARC for an honest review.

This is the 2nd story in the series and is well worth reading. In this book, Tyler is working as a mechanic for Smitty when a young women brings in a Porsche to have work done on it. Later, the boyfriend of the young women is angry with her for taking the car there and winds up killing her. Tyler learns of her death and wants to make him pay for it. The boyfriend is associated with a drug cartel and once Tyler finds out he plans on revenge. Because he stirred up the pot the cartel winds up torching Smitty's garage.

Tyler vows that he will make the cartel pay for that action. The cartel learns where Tyler lives and they try to kill him. Tyler winds up killing some of them. He determines that he needs help and has Rollins help. Things get to a point where Tyler decides that he is going to waylay their drug shipment and receives help from Aguilar in addition to C.T who will work his magic hacking the alarm systems. The shipment was to go to Houston before it went to Maryland. The three members of Tyler's team stormed the warehouse where the drugs were delivered and a gunfight began.

To discover what the result of the Houston trip, what happened with the cartel in Maryland, then you must read this book. You won't be disappointed.

There was a lot of action and some really vile bad guys to loathe. John Tyler gets justice for the victim even if he has to take matters into his own hands to do it. In between the tense plotting and fighting are some rather humorous scenes that give us more information about his family members and his relationship with them. He is a solid father who is there for his daughter Lexi when she needs him but doesn’t try to run her life. I think my favourite character is his father Zeke, an ex-Navy officer whose idea of bonding with his granddaughter was to take her to a shooting range for practice! A secondary plot involved Lexi’s incarcerated mother and criminal uncle. Lexi is definitely her father’s daughter and she did an admirable job figuring out what their latest scheme was about. I really enjoyed seeing a couple of characters from the C.T. Ferguson series helping out. I’m looking forward to the next book to find out if there is going to be any retaliation by what is left of the cartel in Mexico. Highly recommended.

Has the reader crossing over the lines

Tyler, part time mechanic and former military, can’t let go of thoughts that plague him after a customer came in that reminded him of a soldier he served with. As the story progresses a situation seems fishy, he dives a little deeper into the problem, and when things drift in the wrong direction he may end up losing too much. Tom Fowler has the reader crossing over the lines with Tyler in White Lines. This book shines light onto the relationships between the characters and the characters themselves, even though it may further deepen the shadows that are there in their lives. It additionally has the reader pondering just what will Tyler do when the chips fall.

I received a free copy of the book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.

Tom Fowler brings us another brilliant book featuring John Tyler. This time Tyler meets a young woman who shares his love of cars but when she turns up dead he just can’t let it go. Tyler has quickly cemented himself as my favourite character. He’s the kind of hero we all dream of being. He’s got a clear understanding of what’s right and he’s more than ready to stand up and do what’s right to protect others. The part of the story that I love the most is his relationship with his daughter, who herself has inherited her father’s sense of justice. Tom Fowler deftly avoids all and any cliches along the way creating two believable and totally capable characters. Their interactions are both entertaining to read and very plausible despite the nature of the thrilling situations they find themselves in.

White Lines is outstanding! Full of action, believeable action, and enjoyable characters this stands out, as did the first of this series, as a book everyone will enjoy reading. I do not believe in reiterating a storyline as I feel it often destroys a good story's surprises taking from a readers enjoyment. However, it does contain several well-defined "good guys", protagonists, some enjoyable side characters and a plethora of cartel and other antagonists, most of whom do not survive to the book's conclusion.
The action is continuous, keeping the reader fully engrossed but, unlike many action tales, takes time to develop a truly enjoyable interaction of John, his family, and his friends.
I heartedly recommend this to any reader enjoying actions packed thrillers.

I'm disappointed in book #2 as it did not keep my interest, as did book #1. Here, John Tyler and two other accomplices take on the cartel to rid them from Maryland. It all began when a young lady left her car at Smitty's garage for maintenance. John became smitten with her. When he finds out that she is killed by her boyfriend, he seeks revenge. There are typos and missing words, and added words in the story caused me to pause. There was also some duplication from the author's first book. Too much happened that was not plausible - mainly when the main character acts like a fifty-year-old Superman who survives overwhelming odds. I will still consider book #3, hoping this is a freak and the rest of the series isn't the same.

Another pulse pounding thriller in this relatively new series. The action is nonstop and the book is extremely well written. The characters are an interesting mix of loving, caring, but for the most part unemotional individuals. This makes for an interesting and unusual set of relationships. One thing I loved in this story is how the author brought multiple characters from his other series into this book.

John Tyler has a savior personality. If someone is in need he steps up. When a young woman who brought her car into Smitty's shop is murdered, John takes it upon himself to find justice for her and avenge her death.

I received an arc of this book and voluntarily provided a review.

A Good, Interesting Book.

Tom Fowler always writes a good book, with interesting story lines. This story has Tyler taking on drug dealers and money people. He also had help from C.T. Which is another very good book by this author. The story has a nice flow from one part to another. The characters were good and add to the book. These John Tyler books take in his life after the army and him trying to get his retirement lined out. Besides work, he is learning to take care of a daughter that didn’t grow up with him, a father that he doesn’t get along with and his sense of honor and helping people in need. This is all put together, to make a very good read. Read and Enjoy.

He wouldn't let it lie ...

I love this series.

Tyler is getting on with his life, when a young woman drops off her car for some repairs, he has an unsettling feeling about her and when her obnoxious boyfriend picks up her car before the work can begin, Tyler is more than a little concerned - and so it begins!

He's like a dog with a bone! He will not stop until a wrong is avenged, bad guys watch out Tyler is coming for you!

I highly recommend all of Tom's books but I particularly love this series.

Worthy of 10 stars.

A full on action thriller to follow on from the first book. And we find Lexi, Tyler's daughter, to be as crafty as her Dad when it comes to problem solving.
Tyler again takes on a problem of a disappearing female customer from his mechanic job with Smitty. And this leads him into a running battle with a drug cartel. This time he needs some allies to help him out.
Personally I thought this was another cracking read from Tom Fowler and glad I have purchased the series if these first two books are anything to go by!!

Tyles is retired from the Army and working as a mechanic. HIs college aged daughter Lexi lives with him while her mom is away. When a woman Tyler knows is murdered, he steps in because he knows the police won't do enough to avenge her so Tyler will. This is a fast paced book and I like that it brings a few people over from the C.T Ferguson series as well. Vigilante justice at it's best. Tom Fowler is under-appreciated as an author.

ex military John Tyler is a man who lives by his own moral code

when the classic car mechanic uncovers some harsh treatment of relatively innocent folks, he cannot help looking into things

keeping people important to him safe is also a priority

balancing that with legal concerns leaves Tyler defining his own path - as long as he can stay alive to do it

I love that this is a hard hitting ex military man doing his best by his own rules series - waiting for more!

Thanks to author Tom Fowler for this FREE Kindle copy of White Lines. And thanks to Goodreads for hosting the opportunity.

I liked it. Moved along at a nice clip with some good characters and visuals. I thought the overall read could use some 'spit and polish', but going self-published with a small crew, instead of a small village at a publishing house, this is still a good read. Well edited, and nice cover design.

Not My Genre

I read thrillers, mostly psychological. I'm not sure how I ended up with an action thriller, or if I even knew what one was. The action was a lot of guns and killing, with a weak plot. The main character seemed like a decent guy, despite all the killing he did.
This book did not appear to have been proofread, but I found my way around errors enough to finish it. Not bad, but not for me.

I read the first in the John Tyler series and thought it was mediocre and simplistic. I didn’t get too far into this one before I quit. This guy, John Tyler, is immature, a smart ass, and a bully. He doesn’t defuse situations. He escalates them. He is the worst kind of guy…pretending to be a decent person with good motivations, then beating up a minimum wage security guard. I had hoped this author would create a character along the lines of John Milton or Jack Reacher, but he didn’t.

Excellent follow-up to “The Mechanic” as protagonist John Tyler can’t resist seeking revenge when a young car enthusiast customer is brutally beaten to death. The murderer just happened to be a member of a drug cartel. So has Tyler taken on too big a foe? With plenty of action and well-developed characters, the tale moves at a quick pace and definitely entertains.

Tyler and Lexi are a fearless father/daughter combo, and with a first-rate cast of characters, we are taken on an exciting, action-packed journey filled with evil men doing evil things. An eye-opening look at drug cartel movements and the horrors they can create. What will it take to bring them down? Just ask Tyler. Highly Recommended.

White lines is an exciting read. John Tyler is truly tough, resourceful character. In this novel he comes up against a seemingly impossible foe. How he deals with the challenges made this book a “can’t put down” read for this reader.
I was also pleased to see the appearance of a few old friends in the novel.

Well don, Tom Fowler

John Tyler just can’t walk away and is determined to bring justice when when the law doesn’t show any interest in doing it.
This is a well written, fast passed tale with some interesting characters. Especially like the relationship he has with his daughter Lexi.
Great addition to this series and looking forward to more.

Satisfying Read

I won this on goodreads, and am glad I did. A fast moving thriller featuring a retired soldier, his college student daughter, jailed wife, and Mexican cartel members. Some interesting characters round out the cast. Read this if you need relief from the steady drumbeat of bad news from the media and our "friends" in social media.
