I was so close, so close to being free. The wolf was out, the cage was open, and I was me. Finally.
I should've known better...
Now, I'm trapped back where I started with my vicious and vengeful uncle on a warpath. My wolf is clawing at the cage, ready to unleash the fury my uncle awakened in me. But I can't possibly let her out, let her into this war.
Not now. Not with all that I know.
My only hope is to get home, back to the pack that welcomes me, needs me, wants me. Dayne, my cold-blooded alpha, is my home, my freedom.
Can the fiery hot-blooded alpha within me find her way back?
Due to adult language, violence, and steamy scenes this book is recommended for 18+
This picks up right after the cliffy with her being kidnapped by her uncle. (in the blurb) This one had a similar flow as the first book with lots of downtime and the couple spending a large chunk apart. I liked the first book better, but we get some answers and pretty much wrap Dayne and Talis up.
Bottom Line- IMO still worth the read, but I do think this would’ve worked better as one book. The conflict/secrets/answers were drug out far too long especially since they were pretty obvious.
I liked the first story a bit better, but this was a nice wrap up for this couple. It was nice to witness Talis's pack and uncle get all that they deserved.
Book 2 is a continuation of the cliffhanger from book 1. Book 2 is so completely different than Book 1 in tone, that it's hardly recognizable. I didn't sign up to read this depressing, violent story.
Hot-Blooded Alpha begins with Talis having been kidnapped by her Uncle/former Alpha and his Beta Adam. They drug her and bring her back to her old attic bedroom and the abuse begins. It's both on-page and in memory. They beat her, kick her, cut her, stomp her, attempt to rape her, hunt her, and on and on. The tone of the book was a total departure from the first book which, while angsty, was nothing like reading about these evil guys. I really wasn't there for it. I didn't like it.
I can see that the author is trying to allow Talis to take back her own and find her strength, but even then, she doesn't fight back much and it's the H who comes to her rescue. And I expected the H and his pack to be a little more bada$$ than they were. The evil uncle got the best of them too much of the time.
We finally get the Hero's POV in this book but the extreme lack of grovel for his behavior in the last book really annoyed me. He has all sorts of excuses about why he acted the way he did. And the h and the other women in the story let him off with "oh silly, he's just such a man!"
I didn't find much to swoon over in this story. It was just too violent and upsetting for me to really enjoy it. I'll probably end the series here.
As a duet this was a really interesting story and kept my attention well. But I do have to say I didn't see the reason for Dayne and Talis to need two books. The first one felt so much slower than the second and it made it seem like the story was dragging a lot. Especially with not getting any of Dayne's POV until this book so we never saw his motives behind things in the first which made him unlikable at times. Overall, still very intriguing and I'm loving this world so much I've pretty much devoured the entire series in just two days.
I liked this second book so much better than the first. The story was more thought out and laid out better for us.
It also had Dayne's POV this time too and not just Talis's. So it was much easier to see where he was coming from. The angst level was on the higher end of medium.
This finishes the arc from book 1. Book 3 of the series has a different hero and heroine.
The book was compelling, and I really wanted the HEA, but it was brutal in a way I wasn't expecting and didn't like. There's stomach-churning abuse and violence and torment inflicted by the heroine's old pack. I skimmed through some of it because it was more than I'd anticipated.
I really enjoyed this conclusion to the first book. However it did feel like the whole book, Dayne (H) and Talis (h) were just saving eachother and so were separated for literally more then half the book. Which was extremely annoying. But besides that I liked it and all the supporting characters were okay too. 💓
Its a story from book 1, its quite boring actually cause it involved a lot of political things. But i think its important for the world building, and they should just make book 1 and 2 into one book.
DNF I couldn't finish it. The tone of the book is different compared to the 1st book. It felt like I was reading a different author. After they found Talia I just stopped reading.

honestly this is a generous 3⭐️ review. It's more like 2 so i'm going to change it. I don't like the heroin, it doesn't feel like a natural progression after everything she's been through. I sometimes feel like authors try to write these terrible things the characters go through however they don't really show the internal turmoil that the abuse has done to them and this is the case with the heroine of this book. I feel like sometimes I'm Guilted into liking the character just because of her trauma however there is no complex emotion that helps you understand her on a human level that I feel like the author attempts.
honestly there's many other things that I don't really feel like are well developed within this book also it's not a very original story line. so you could skip this one.
I’m BORED. This was b o r i n g. What a fucking let down.
Book 1 showed me the promise of all that book 2 could have been; and I was so excited & hopeful I gave book 1 4 stars. Now after reading 65% of this I revised to give it 3 stars.
This series has let me down.
The author including Dayne’s POV was a mistake. He lost his aura of mystery. I loved not knowing his thoughts. It made the unknown sexier. Now knowing his thoughts & knowing he loves Talis has me b o r e d.
I think what I loved about book 1 was the unknown of it all; that’s what made the first book- not having Dayne’s POV.
Having his POV has made him normal, un-alpha, the mystery is no longer there.
Also Wdym it took 2 days for the MMC to storm into the FMC’s uncle’s house to save his mate whose being tortured??? The lack of inaction made him slightly unattractive to me.
+ the FMc’s uncle being a cockroach of a villain & outsmarting the supposed badass MMC to steal his girl for 48 hours again made the MMC unattractive to me 🤷🏻♀️. Wdym it took that long for the MMC to save her? I just felt like he was twiddling his thumbs with uncertainty & discussing what to do. WTF is there to discuss?? Rip her uncle’s pack to shreds & fucking get your girl. Hurry tf up.
And wdym those pathetic cockroach villains ( the Uncle & Abel) still aren’t dead 50% in???
I’m just not convinced of Dayne’s alpha-ness anymore. Also his pack being so small… are his men trained?? I’m unconvinced of their power ability as a pack to handle life & death situations.
I loved the first half of a romance where we don’t know each other’s feelings & it’s all this yummy tension of will they won’t they.
Beyond the initial courtship with 40% of this book the FMC being separated from the hero nothing kept my interest.
While I absolutely loved book one, I was quite disappointed with this book. First of all I was happy to read alphas pow, what confused me first was that in Dayne pows instead of “ me and I” he was referring g to himself as Dayne, it took me couple rereads until I realised it wasn’t only his pow, it’s was nice up with his pow and third person pow which confused me a lot as I never read book written like this before. Next thing I didn’t liked was when Talia finally decided to open up about everything what happened to her, all we got was “ it started when I was 8” and that’s it, the whole story was completely skipped and next chapter started of her being asleep. We did get a little glimpse of what happened but I feel that wasn’t enough. Her traumatic story in her old pack was base of this book and when the time come to finally open up and tell her story, it was cut out like it was completely not important. Now about Abel, his character was left mysterious till the end, I feel that at least some of his actions should’ve been explained, for example why was he so obsessed with Talia, why he as so brutal and cold towards everyone. After everything he put her trough I expected big detailed fight between him and Dayne, maybe some explanation, glimpse of his emotions , well we got nothing of that, his death was in two seconds which was extremely disappointing. Talia uncle: again I expected more of his end, more explanations from his lips and not just Talia assumptions, more detailed fight, again we got none of that. I’am not saying book was bad, it was okey. It just was really lacking, I feel like the most important scenes was completely cut out and make me lose interest in story.
I finished reading Cold Blooded Alpha just a few days ago, so grabbed this to read as soon as it was released to see what happened with the cliffhanger. Overall, I thought the 2 books were good. I didn't necessarily think Dayne went about things quite right in the first book which bled a little into book 2, but I'm felt a bit at a loss to judge the reactions of Talis and her situation. As usual in these types of books, lack of communication causes lots of issues. Unfortunately there are some issues with this book. The first being that sometimes the author accidentally calls Dayne "Ethan". Initially I thought that maybe that was supposed to be his name and then the author changed their mind, and then I saw the excerpt at the end of the book a realised Ethan is the male lead in a different book. There are also other typos like the author mixing up the names of the towns. There's also a scene towards the end of the book where Glynn seemed to indicate he'd received new information about Talis which made him angry, but nothing is ever revealed which was confusing. All this leads me to believe that the book was not proofread and edited properly and that maybe some ideas weren't quite fleshed out properly. Great potential, I love an emotional read, but still needs some work.
This is the follow-up to Talis and Dante’s story in the first book. Any depth that was found in that first book is completely missing her. Parts of this read like fan fiction. Playful when scenes should be serious. Talis’s personality was a little illogical and annoying. Dayne, gosh. I don’t know how the author did it because at least, here we got Dayne’s perspective as a dual POV book, but I still felt his personality was missing. The romance here progressed too unbelievably for me to get behind.
There’s a lot of action in this book. Or should I say a lot of sitting around and waiting, the action wasn’t written well. The villain was so one dimensional and generic. I could see the final plot twist coming a mile away. The writing was not good. A couple times, the name Dayne was exchanged for Ethan; who I gather is a hero in another story. I don’t know if that was just in my copy but it really took me out of the story.
Overall, there was no emotional depth in this story. There were hints of it in the first book but this story let me down.
The first book to this series was absolutely amazing. The writing was beautiful and the story was compelling. It was more what I imagine 'real life' shifters would be like and not the fantasy version. The second book felt forced and unnecessary. The writing even seemed different about half way through and the character personalities didn't track. Talis especially. Her confidence level from book one to book two went from 0 to 10 and didn't feel believable to me. I think if these two books had been one longer book, with about 60 percent of the second book cut out, it would have been an amazing standalone. Not every book needs to be a dualogy or a series and this is a great example.
However, I would still recommend these books be read by those that like shifter stories and adult bully romance. The story is very good. It easy to read, and I really enjoyed that it was actually adult bully with an HEA. It gave me all the right feels for what I was looking for. I don't think readers who enjoy these tropes will be disappointed.
I feel like this one was shorter than the first one. It picked up right where the other left off and actually included like a narrative of some sort on the other MC’s POV.
I kind of didn’t like it though because they were kind of reckless on the captured parts. Like Dayne knew it was a trap but still was full blown running until he was at the trap that he knew he really messed up.
Then Talis going after him. It was too easy. She emphasized on not splitting up when arriving…what does she do once her paws hit the house grounds.? Let’s the beta know she’s splitting up, to run in the opposite direction to the dude that tortured her all her life and makes her freeze on sight.
🤷🏽♀️ It feels, rushed to end their story. And pick up the next chapter of couples. Also I’m so glad they finally addressed who Savannah was and their history.

If you made it through the frustration that is book 1, you will appreciate the extremely satisfying resolution in book 2.
As we all suffered through the lack of communication alongside poor Talis in book 1 and her extremely limited and warped perspective, we finally get answers we seek. And we get dual pov. Huzzah!
Honestly as annoyed as I was reading book 1, the way the author wrote it from Talis’s pov then adding dual pov for book 2 was clever as it highlights Talis’s mental state in book 1, and contrasts it with how she’s truly seen by Dwayne in book 2. And I was downright gleeful for that climax. The author completely redeems herself for the miscommunication frustration of book 1. I’m almost annoyed but how clever it all is.
DNF stopped reading @ 50%, wasn't going to read this book because the first one was such shite but it kept popping up on series I started and thought "maybe the second book will be better"......it wasn't, this female is the most pathetic wolf I have ever read about, she can attack a non threatening female but gets kicked around by everyone else, doesn't even try to fight her uncle even after she killed a near feral wolf, then she finally shifts and defends herself, the idiot alpha distracts her she gets beat and he doesn't even go after the perv, (dumb), she wakes up giving attitude like she's a boss, but we just read the first 50% of her getting the heck beat out of her by everyone and their sister, RIDICULOUS!! What a waste.

Wow what a read, this follow up to Dayne & Talis’ story has everything, lies, deceit, mistrust, hurt, anger, pain, fear, love, family, and so much more. All of the trauma Talis has received over the years comes to light, but with that comes her strength and with Dayne coming to her rescue we see everything come full circle. Enemies get what’s coming to them, and Blackshaw pack come together to save their Luna and Alpha. This book had me gripped, I read it in one sitting, it’s great. Loads of angst, and amazing banter. Love the characters, the story and plot are great, highly recommend this shifter read.
Ok so this book is not as dark as the first one, but still very trigger happy. I wasn't as quick to read this as I was the first book. I was glad to see the death of some certain characters. When the 3 Merricks show up at the end is so shocking. Maria was so mean and tricked her and still came to her for help. Some people are so dumb and oblivious to how their actions affect people. I do wish Loren the bitch would have gotten her ass handed to her, but you can't always get what you want. The ending seriously leaves you wanting to read the 3rd book about Savannah and her mate.
i agree with other reviews that Cold-Blooded and Hot-Blooded should have been one book as book 2 tries to answer the questions of book one, and the different speeds of the two books make them seem completely different. However, while i liked how the MFC saved the day in the end, while pregnant, to add to her badassery, the book fell flat. I didn't get the groveling i wanted from the MMC and even when he had bonded fully with his mate and they were falling in love his alpha-assholeness still snapped at her, and she wasn't exactly cuddly back until it came to sex. Im glad the uncle got his karma, but the chemistry fell flat for me.
This is basically for both the books. The writing is good, pacing is pretty good, honestly they’re not bad.
What is INSANE to me is that the entirety of the first book takes place over 2 weeks. I was certain it was more like 2 months. That’s…weird. Just pretend you didn’t read that part maybe.
Also, MMC and FMC do get kind of Disney adult cringe? She calls him stinky butt.
Also also, I don’t care about Savannah, it was WAY too sunshine and rainbows, and Dayne should have done literally any groveling. But also Savannah thinking she’s instantly bffs with the FMC once the truth comes out? And FMC just going along with it? Weird and off putting.
Weeelllll, that was unexpected. A solid 3.5 stars for this. I mean, generally people read 2 after book 1 so I often think one doesn't have to repeat what was said in book one so often.
My annoyance with this entire story is the time line. I mean, the level of abiluse described here is really really huge, but sure requires more than 2 weeks for a scared and traumatised person to just get over. But I could be wrong. I was just really all of a sudden you're badass? With that being said, book 2 is neither here nor there.
Yes yes yes!!!! Ok so it’s not pretty. It’s dark and gritty and it’s a mess. But boy oh boy, I’ve never been so happy for the blood to fly! Talis really is stronger than she thinks she is. She doesn’t give herself enough credit. And with a little squirt added to the list, things are getting really serious real quick. Dayne continues to surprise me. He’s a little bit of a hot mess but he’s something special and he’s perfect for her. I’ve completely fallen for the characters and the writing!!
And what was really annoying is daybed constantly saying they had to hurry n rescue talis, but then took almost 3 days to go rescue her in which time she was badly beaten again. Sigh, I got seriously impatient with him taking his time! Ffs
This is like a mills n boon shifter book.
I grew out of mills m boon when I was in my teens.
This author is not for me, if you like mills n boon soft romance then this will suit you perfectly. Personally I need something more challenging
