Emily
I never thought I would be seeking shelter here of all places.
I’m out of options though. I needed a place to hide out.
Somewhere I could get my bearings and develop a plan to get myself out of the mess I’ve landed in.
It was a fail-proof plan. Then he found me.
I’ve escaped one monster, only to be captured by another.
He’s determined to break me, to uncover the secrets I’m hiding. But this is one secret I can’t let him discover.
Can I escape him before he ruins everything? Before he ruins me?
Josh
She was meant to stay away.
Emily, the only person in the world who’s made me feel like I actually have a heart.
She made me hope that my soul wasn’t as black as people say.
Hope’s a dangerous bitch though, one I killed before those embers ever had a chance to flame.
Now she’s back. And she’s keeping secrets, ones I plan to uncover using any means necessary.
I warned her that if I ever laid eyes on her again, I’d keep her.
In keeping her, I know I’m going to do the one thing I never wanted to do.

Note to self: Yet another tortured boy who bullies the girl he loves. Asks for one night with her tells her he loves her then breaks her heart and tells her to leave…. For her own good. Cause he’s from a dark world🙄.
Then he fucks OW for 7 yrs while she ends up in a Very abusive relationship which she is now running from. Cause of course she can’t leave and be happy or have great sex like the H. No she gets raped and beat up by her husband.
So she runs to him for protection after 7 yrs.
Ugh not interested in yet another I love you it’s “for your own good” story were the H then sleeps around while the h has a horrid life. 🙄🙄🙄 no thx
This book deals with some heavy topics, but it does so eloquently and with care. There is angst, there is steam, suspense and twists you didn't see coming.
7 years ago Emily had the night of her life. The next morning she is pushed away and ultimately ran out of town by the one she thought loved her above all else. 7 years ago Joshua had the night of his life. The next morning he pushes away the only person he's truly and wholeheartedly loved. All to keep her safe from the evil he had inside. He could never live with himself if he hurt her.
Those plans backfired because in those 7 years she was in her own personal nightmare. She endured SO much at the hands of her own devil. One that kept her in line any way he could.
Now she's back. She ran from her nightmare and headed to the one place she could find sanctuary and may be safe for a short time. Back to the cabin that started it all. Now that Emily is back in Joshua's life, he will not let her go again. He will break with her, he will heal with her, he will love her and keep her safe. No matter the costs!
This was a really good read and I'm diving into book 2 now!
This book would be great if the whole story of their relationship wasn’t so freakin annoying and messed up in a really bad fcking way. The hero was stalking and obsessing so much to the heroine for 3 years, at first it was romantic cause during the 3 years of the hero obsessing over her. Both are completely virgins, YES DUAL VIRGINS AT FIRST. And during those 3 years, the hero only fully committed and focused on the heroine. No one else.
But one day when he finally got smart, he goes to the heroine and both in the end have s3x. First time for them to do that. Romantic! BUT THE NEXT DAY THE HERO WENT AWAY AND COMPLETELY IGNORED THE HEROINE LIKE NOTHING HAPPENED. BECAUSE HE THOUGHT THAT WAS THE BEST💀
PRESENT DAY: the heroine was in a relationship with a bad guy for years and the hero is a manwhor3 as well. THEY GOT SEPARATED FOR 7 YEARS. No calls, no nothing. Naaadaaa. The hero didn’t even search for her, never…. Which is so fcking wrong and annoying! YOU CLAIMED TO LOVE HER SO MUCH BUT NEVER EVEN ONCE FOR 7 FVCKING YEARS TO LOOK FOR HER????! 🥴🥴🥴💀💀😡😡😡 NOPE. THAT IS NOT LOVE Y’ALL…. They meet again when the heroine was in trouble, the hero actually left her a phone to make sure to call him if she needs anything. She didn’t call him for seven years because the way he just ignored her after s3x. She was sooo broken. Damn i will too if the man who claims to love me so much suddenly just disappeared and ignored me. I won’t even call🤬 But the heroine have to called him and that just made them finally reunited. Reunited and never separated… ever again.
I don’t know but this type of story is something i really just don’t want to read. I don’t dig story like this. Too annoying and too fvcking wrong for my brain. TOO TOXIC 🥵
But 3 ⭐️⭐️⭐️ stars for the hero being so OVER THE TOP POSSESSIVE PROTECTIVE BILLIONAIRE ALPHA MALE AND WANTS THE HEROINE SOOO BAD. MANY JEALOUS SCENES!
THE STARS WENT DOWN because there was OTHER WOMAN WHO APPEARED AND EVEN TOUCHED THE HERO’S DICK. THE HERO EVEN LET THAT HAPPENED WITHOUT EVEN MOVING HER HAND ASAP. HE MOVED HIS HAND ASAP WHEN HE SAW THE HEROINE WAS LOOKING. For me that’s not fvcking fast enough🤬🤬🤬🤬 AZZHOLE.
I just don’t want to read this series. Too toxic and too annoying 💀 BUT NOT ALL THE AUTHOR’S BOOK IS THIS BAD THO. ALL THE OTHER AUTHOR’S BOOK IS FREAKIN AMAZING AND I’M OBSESSED WITH IT 🥺🥺❤️ Just not this one I’m reviewing now….
👉🏽👉🏽👉🏽Thank you so much for reading my review❤️ For you who loves my review and follow it, THANK YOU SO MUCH. I did not get paid or be told to do a review on a book. I’m here just to write review about a book so i can remember it. Its my honest opinion😚 I didn’t know at first people will find me and follow me and trust me to be honest, I was surprised myself to look at the notifications from people who reach out to me😆 So everything i write down here on a review is based on my personal opinion and based on my true writing. I DID NOT COPY SOMEONE’S REVIEW OR WRITING SKILL because at first when i was using this app for one year i didn’t know how to scroll down on a book and see the reviews from others😂😅🤣 I know, silly me but hey I finally learned my lesson 😛😛😛 Thats why when people assume i copy someone’s review i was like what? Because at first i didn’t know how to use this app properly and i didn’t know how to open someone’s review because for a year i never follow someone or add friends or someone😂😂😂🤣 (I’m laughing so hard) 🤪 AND I NEVER COPY SOMEONE’S REVIEW EVER. IF I WRITE SOMETHING WRONG OR DOESN’T MAKE SENSE PLEASE LET ME KNOW AND BE NICE OKAY. 👈🏽👈🏽👈🏽✋🏽✋🏽 IF YOU'RE BEING MEAN AND NEGATIVE ALREADY WITH A WARNING AND NOT BEING WISE TO ME, I WILL NOT ENTIRELY READ YOUR COMMENT AND REMOVE YOU EASILY AND FAST. I DO NOT TOLERATE NEGATIVE COMMENT SO KNOW YOUR PLACE, THANK YOU SO MUCH.
I’m writing my disclaimer again here cause many negative people still don't get it or still be stupid enough not to understand my POV when I already write it so many times before. So here I am writing it again to you beautifuls human being😁😁 WHEN YOU READ MY LONG OR SHORT REVIEW, YOU WOULD KNOW THAT WHAT I LIKE ABOUT A STORY AND CHARACTERS RIGHT... IF YOU DON'T KNOW THEN HERE IT IS: I LIKE A BOOK WITH VERY POSSESSIVE PROTECTIVE ALPHA MALE, NO CHEATING, AND PLEASE NO MANWHOR3, NO MANY PUSHING AWAY, NO DOORMAT HEROINES, NO MANY OW DRAMA, NO S3X SCENE WITH SOMEONE ELSE. AND SAFE ALL THE WAY AND A HAPPY ENDING. Something that I don't like it very much if the hero or heroine have a crazy fvcked up personality and likes. Example: killing someone and let the heroine watch it all and push the heroine to lick all the blood of his victim and made her have to eat the meat of humans. and fvcks many woman in front of the heroine while telling her he loves her. I DON'T LIKE THAT TYPE OF SH*T AT ALL. That's just who I am, that's what I like and I don't like on a book. Maybe you love that, but I don't. We humans are different, we think very differently from one another. You have your likes and I have mine, you have your opinions and I have mine of my own. You think it's stupid of me to love such a book or to not love a book or to hate it whatever lol, I think it's bad you think that way cause I respect people's opinions cause I know for a fact we have our differences. YOU AND ME ARE DIFFERENT FOR PETE'S SAKE. I even have my own friends or people I follow here that shows how much they don't like the book I like, I never even give them a long comment or short Comment. Cause I respect their opinions. I don't like to give people I hard time here cause life itself is already hard enough. I do respect your opinion if you say my review is bad or whatever negative things about it, but in the end of the day I will not changed my mind about what book I dislike and how my thoughts about it. You can't tell me what to do. You can give me advice but it's me who decided to know what's right for me, this is my life and not yours. Read that again. Don’t assume things about me that is not even real, just don’t. cause when you do you’re more small minded for sure. You're thinking why I'm telling you all of this when you already know? Is because you still hating on my opinions and don't understand my POV and don't respect my POV. You think i like writing this disclaimer when obviously you're an adult already? no i personally think this is unnecessary... but because there are people out there who still don't get it *rolling my eyes*. Hopefully they or the people who read this disclaimer can use a beautiful thing called a brain:) AND WHEN YOU READ MY REVIEW, READ IT VERY CLEARLY TO SEE IF I FINISHED THE BOOK OR NOT. KNOW THE DIFFERENCE. AND YES ENGLISH IS NOT MY FIRST LANGUAGE. BUT IF YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT I'M WRITING, THEN IT MEANS YOU UNDERSTAND IT ENOUGH. I DO NOT TOLERATE BULLYING, NEGATIVE COMMENTS AND MEAN WORDS. PLEASE USE A WISE WORDS SO WE DON'T ATTACK EACH OTHER. SIMPLY, I DON’T LIKE TO HAVE AN ARGUMENT WITH STRANGERS LIKE YOU CAUSE I HAVE BETTER THINGS TO DO😚 BUT IF YOU STILL WANT TO BE AMBER HEARD KARENS THAT DON'T UNDERSTAND MY DISCLAIMER AFTER I JUST WRITE IT DOWN, THEN GO ENJOY YOUR DAY AND GO AWAY. IT'S VERY EASY FOR A HUMAN COULD DO YA KNOW. IF YOU STILL HERE HATING ME OR ANNOYED WITH ME, THAT'S YOUR PROBLEM. NOT ME PROBLEM. HASHTAGS BURN😂😂 DON'T TAKE THINGS TOO PERSONALLY ON ONLINE CAUSE WE ALL A STRANGERS, WE NEVER EVER MEET. WE'RE ADULTS HERE SO LETS BE WISER. LAST, I BLOCK NEGATIVE PEOPLE! SO GET WELL SOON TO THE HATERS. HOPEFULLY YOUR HEART AND MIND WILL BE MORE POSITIVE 🙏🙏🙏 AND THIS DISCLAIMER MAY SEEMS LIKE TOO HARSH ON YOU BUT HEY I DON'T LIKE TO SUGAR COATED THINGS. I LIKE TO SAY TO THE POINT WITH MY UNDERSTANDING AND MY OWN THOUGHTS, CAUSE THAT'S HOW HUMANS ARE. WE ARE DIFFERENT REMEMBER👍 HAVE A GREAT DAY EVERYONE!!
Giving you a heads up in case you didn't read the warning in the verb. This book has domestic abuse, rape and violence. Kylie Kent has me hooked on her books. This story is of one broken brother who thinks he can't love because of the abuse he suffered at the hands of his father, but Emily proves him wrong he let her go at 18 thinking he was protecting her but unknown to them that wasn't to be as she falls into a domestic violence situation. He did give her a way to contact him if she ever needed. I can't wait for part two.
__ “I had this done the day after… the day after our senior graduation. I have your name on my heart, because you are the only person I’ve ever loved. You are the only person I love.” _ “I wish that you would pick me up right now, kiss me like it’s the last time you’re ever going to get to kiss me, and take me to bed.” _ “You don’t have to do anything, Em, and your wishes are boundless—there is no limit to what I would do for you, give you.”
Ruining Her is the first book in the McKinley Ranch Duet by Kylie Kent. This book features Josh, a minor character we got a glimpse of in Entwined With Him, and Emily. Josh is a dark, twisted possessive, protective, alpha anti-hero and Emily is a tough, strong and unique woman. Josh has loved Emily since high school, but kept his distance from her to protect her from his dark world. He asks for one night, after which he tells her to leave in order to protect her. Fast-forward to seven years later where things have changed for Emily and she’s not the girl he used to know. Emily has been through trauma that has left her broken, damaged, and surrounded by darkness. Emily needs help, and she reaches out to the only person who is able to help her, Josh. Emily has a secret, and she’s running from danger, but it won’t be long until her past catches up.
Kylie Kent has outdone herself. I’ve enjoyed her previous books, and this one is in a whole other league. It’s dark, twisted, heartbreaking, and so addictive! I was hooked from the first page and enchanted by Josh and Emily’s story. This second chance romance is unconventional, emotional, and intense. This book is also graphic, dark, and the author handles abuse without romanticizing it. The characters are beautifully crafted with depth. I loved the angst and romance in this book and I can’t wait for more. Ruining Him ends on a cliffhanger and concludes in Ruining Her.
"...I’ve tried to hate you for years, thinking it would make things easier. I’ve hated you for the way you make me feel. I’ve hated you for making me want a different future. I’ve hated you for making me want a future at all. But even with all that, the love I feel for you outweighs all the hate even I could muster up,”
❛ Ugh don’t even get me started on this cringy ass book
The writing: cringy, basic, boring. Characters: gross, plain, confusing Plot: none, sex, and a whole bunch of heavy topics that have clearly not been covered correctly or/used in a way to just make plot🤢
Ruining Her is the first book in the McKinley Ranch Duet by Kylie Kent. It is the story of Josh (a minor character in Entwined With Him - the last book of The Merge series), a loner with a penchant for danger, and Emily, his weakness, the love of his life who he pushed away years ago… They are thrust back into each other’s lives, through actions, consequences, or fate, it was bound to happen - is this just a recipe for disaster? Or will they be able save each other?
This is my absolute favourite of the author’s books so far - I say that every time but that, to me, means that Kylie has something special. She has such a talent for telling a story, weaving in so much detail, painting a picture, while still allowing the reader’s own imagination to flourish, adding colour to the lines drawn by her.
The author’s writing style is very easy to read, while still being gripping enough to hold attention. The story switches between between the POV of Josh and Emily, which is a style I love; being able to see into the souls of them, often being privy to things kept secret from other characters.
The story flows extremely well, is packed full of Kylie’s signature romance, steam, and angst. I whole heartedly recommend this book.
Book one of two starts Emily and Josh's story. The author does a great job developing the story and her characters. She brings a bit of a dark read that does have some triggers. Her scenes are painted in vivid detail and the story flows fluidly. It's an intriguing story that has me looking forward to the next book.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
Former childhood acquaintances, Josh pushed Emily away seven years ago, claiming she was too good for him, but now, she's called on him at a pivotal point in her life. This time Josh vows to never let her go.
Though he might never have professed it, Josh has loved Emily from the first encounter in high school, but their lives diverged. Upon meeting again, Josh remains the absolutely over-the-top jealous-possessive antihero he was in his youth. An admitted certifiable personality, he is so crazy in his claiming of Emily that I found myself laughing at this words, acts, his threats to other men.
Fast pace and best enjoyed for its entertainment value, romantic suspense, and antihero as initially it took some adjusting to the style of writing as the story felt a little disjointed, too little dialogue, too little character development, simply some scenes that would have warranted being played out. And then it hit me: The insta-attraction, the over the top (and humorous) possessiveness, and I settled in for pure enjoyment. And so steamy good. It didn’t hold back. The story progresses well that you wonder what is going to happen next, with Josh and Emily, with the family, and in particularly the suspenseful arc ending in a cliffhanger.
Please heed the trigger warnings as this story is definitely not for the faint of heart but it is definitely 100% worth it! So worth it in fact I ended up finishing the book and starting again despite my growing TBR!
McKinley Ranch book 1 is the first book in a new duet by Kent. It is possibly better to read 'Entwined with Her' first to get a feel for the male main character (and some of the supporting ones too) BUT it is not necessary and can be read as a standalone.
Even though, most fear him (with good reason) Josh is not what he seems. He is most definitely an alpha don't get me wrong, hes strong, he's protective and most would not like to cross him exactly as any good hero should be... but...this guy just breaks the mold of alpha male ans this reader fell in love with him very quickly.
Emily or Emmy as Josh calls her is tough, unique and has been through the ringer! She is also a little skittish, hesitant and hiding something major. However she also adores Josh and she makes you (the reader) feel for her, route for her, want to slap sense into her and rejoice with her.
The history and the obvious care the two have for each other captivated me from the very early pages. The family aspect remains and the book is focused.
Kent has a way of winding together the hard and the soft... dealing with sensitive topics in an uber respectful way while also making you want more and by making you so engrossed in the story you don't want it to end.
Aaaaaannnndddddd for all that is holy that cliff hanger ending ... just open mouthed staring...That is not ok (but it is ok, but it's not ok). I need answers, I need reactions, I need book 2 like yesterday...this new author should not know how to do this yet...and yet it is 2000% en pointe...yes I'm rambling now but you will understand if you read this fabulous tale.
Ruining Her is dark, intense, mysterious and completely captivating. I loved Josh and Emily. Josh is dark, broody, and a little insane but he is so amazing and sweet when it comes to his Emmy. I love how protective Emily is when it comes to someone putting down Josh. This story is beautifully written and Kylie Kent does a great job with Emily's character and dealing with domestic abuse. This is a fantastic read and I can't wait to see how this duet ends.
im sorry i will be dnf-ing a book where he says 'shes the tim to my tam' esp when it's before they have sex for the first time and esp esp when we're claiming he's a scary man
Romance genre: New Adult Series: McKinley Ranch Length: 216 pages
Plot: Emily is running after . The one place she thinks to go for help is to Josh, her high school crush, aka the boy who broke her heart. It's been a few years since she's seen him, but he doesn't hesitate to help her. The only problem is that now he doesn't want to let her go. She won't tell him the extent of her problems though because she doesn't want him in harm's way. In order for him to fix the problem, though, she'll have to trust him to take care of them both.
Commentary: Eek! So very new adult (and that's fine - some people like this trope, obviously). I think you can tell by the amount of screaming that characters do. Anything that a character in another (non-new adult) book would say, shout, yell, or exclaim, a new-adult character will scream. Even a character as beaten down as Emily. I'm always baffled by this type of male character - between 18-25 years old, a billionaire covered in tattoos and a master of martial arts or a serial killer or both, as well as the CEO of a successful company, he runs this town and everyone around him quakes in fear. Perhaps this MMA/serial killer/CEO exists somewhere. (And this is not only specific to this book, but was certainly present here). It was interesting that Josh was so mean to Emily in high school but she "just knew" that he wasn't really like that underneath it all. I mean, all he did was pour a milkshake over her head, put laxatives in her food, beat up/scare off all possible dates, abandon her during a project, etc. But then we get a little flashback saying that he rescued her when she was drunk one night and she heard him tell her he loved her when he thought she was asleep. I wonder how many of those mean things happened before or after that confession. As much influence as Josh (inexplicably) has, I can't believe that Emily can't trust him with her secret. He supposedly critically runs the world, and she thinks one little corrupt cop is going to take him down? She's not very smart. I find her actions in general to be contradictory. Cowering and screaming, plotting and missing the point, going places she knows are dangerous (like the bar) but refusing to go out shopping. Character-wise, I didn't connect with this one. I hope they resolve their problems in the next book, but I don't think I'll be there for that.
Emily is fifteen-years-old and has attended ten schools in the last three years. Ten. She usually has to find a way to fit in, but this time is different because she got a scholarship to an elite school and everyone knew who she was. Her dad, the military hero, died six months ago saving five lives...five that didn't include himself.
When she looks around the cafeteria and at the only open table is a beautiful lone boy. His school uniform can't hide his muscular physique. When sits down and introduces herself, he stands up, dumps his milkshake over her head, and walks away.
It's senior year and Josh is so glad to be leaving this hellhole they call a school. Nothing but pretentious kids of celebrities and old money. The only difference is her, the only one he hasn't been able to break. None of his taunts or pranks have broken her. She still has that blinding smile.
Emily is making spaghetti bolognaise, Trent's favorite. She walks through the house making sure that things are perfect and in their place - just like he wants it. When she hears the keys in the lock, she runs to the kitchen and is horrified at the burned sauce. She grabs a knife and prays that things will be different this time, but she knows it won't be.
He isn't happy with just beating her this time after starts to rape her. She not allowed to wear any underwear, she doesn't even own any anymore. When she realizes she still has the knife in her hand she starts stabbing him in the neck.
When he goes still, she pushes him off and gathers her few belongings and the letter and phone from Josh that she's kept hidden for the last seven years. She walks out the door and leaves the home, prison, hellhole where she's lived for the last three years.
Let me that first that this book leaves you with a major cliffhanger. That being said, I loved this book!
I was disappointed with the book after reading the amazing review's. I felt the first chapters in the last could have been elongated. I had no idea why Josh was not surprised to hear the phone call from Emily, even though it was seven years later. I was do fused with the whole Ella kidnap scene and wondered why the author picked two names so similar in the book. I had trouble understanding the lack of trauma and immediate trust after such a terrible relationship with Trent. I think the dream scene although appalling were really well written and probably most gripping sections of the book. It felt rushed in sections and although I really liked the characters and want to know how they can help Emily survive, I don't know if I'm invested enough to pre order the next book.
I’m not even sure I can do this book justice. I found Kylie Kent randomly while doing a book challenge and I’m so thankful I did. There is just enough mystery to keep me hooked. I can’t wait to find out more about the death certificates and the trust fund. I love crazy possessive guys who will do anything for their woman, and that is Josh. I love everything he did for Emily back in high school, and what she did for him too. They compliment each other so well. I’m heartbroken with what she went through while they were apart. I’m excited to read the next book.
I feel like I lost some brain cells reading this book. Skip it-just don’t even bother. Rushed, illogical, not remotely making any sense at all. Triggers ok I got that but to represent a DV victim in such a nonsensical way was mind blowing.
4 Stars, but I'm sad to say I do feel like I'm being a little over generous... hear me out.
So the plot is pretty good, characters have a decent amount of depth given to them throughout the book, there's definitely a bit of a mystery or at least a few unknowns that pique your interest enough to keep you reading. The relationship between the MMC and FMC is pretty good (definitely a bit unhinged in his department, with literal touch her and die vibes - which I'm all for!), and the spice is fairly spicy although it's a little repetitive and definitely could have been better, but I'm glad there's some there, maybe it will pick up in the second book when some of the FMC roadblocks are hopefully lifted, I guess we'll see.
The writing felt a little stiff and stagnant though, Not much creative vocabulary, so I like when different words are used to describe things rather than the same words continuously throughout the whole story.. you know, variety is the spice of life.. and books. I will say even though the writing style definitely didn't do it for me, the storyline, the characters, and the plot saved it. (aaand who am I kidding, the main reason I liked it is probably mostly due to the unhinged MMC, I have issues, don't judge me lol) Kylie Kent has got a decent thing going, and maybe I don't know what I'm talking about since I wasn't completely in love with the book and I still rated it four stars soo, there's that..
I definitely feel like I expected more from this book, especially given the fact it has such a high rating here, which I've come to assume means the book is ridiculously good, but I just wouldn't use that phrase to describe this book. It's good, don't get me wrong. It's definitely worth reading, but I'm not so sure I'd read it again... Case in point, I always use those little sticky flags to mark my favorite parts, and I had them ready to go and I did not use a single one... There were a couple spots I debated marking, but they were so far into the book and I hadn't marked a single thing yet, so I felt it wasn't worth it. That alone was a disappointment for me because I love using those flags and seeing the book after I'm done reading it (especially since I color code them to match the cover).
I wanted to love it, and although it fell a little flat I'll say I definitely liked it, I still would recommend it and I will definitely be reading the second book, cuz she as not kidding when she said it ends on a cliffhanger... phew!
Wow! This book is just wow! Ok, where to start? This is the story of Josh and Emmy. Josh is an overwhelming person. Everything he is, does and feels is overwhelming. When he hates, he HATES and when he loves, he LOVES! Josh and Emmy met in high school and even though they never really became friends or anything really, on graduation night, Josh takes her to his cabin and they have one perfect night together before he leaves her with a phone and a note while she is still sleeping.
Seven years later, they are brought back together and this time, Josh is not going to let her go. But she isn't the same person she was 7 years ago. She's been through a lot, more than any one person should, and she's having a tough time trusting. Her past is following her and Josh does everything he can to protect her, which isn't easy since she won't tell him what happened. It's pretty obvious what happened, but she won't tell Josh any of the details. As more time goes by and Emmy starts to feel like she might be able to have a future with Josh, her past has now become the present and she finally tells Josh why she is running. And now we must wait for the next book to find out what happens.
I loved this story! I love how much Josh loves Emmy. I love how over the top he is in everything. He's overbearing, overprotective, and overwhelming. He's the kind of man many women are attracted to, but there's only one woman who could love him as he is and Emmy is that woman. This book is a fast paced, easy to read story that will have you looking forward to reading the conclusion Ruining Him as soon as possible!
This is the first book in the McKinley Ranch Duet and although Josh appeared in the final Merge Series book Entwined With Him, this book can be read as a stand alone. Although, if you are not already familiar with the author, I highly recommend reading the Merge Series.
I thought I was ready for Emily and Josh’s story, but I was so not ready for it! That cliffhanger there at the end killed me, I was waiting to see when everything would start to catch up to Emily but was certainly not expecting things to go that way. Josh surprised me though, I wasn’t sure what he was going to do when he found out, but his reaction was not one that I thought we would get. Loved it though, the dynamic between the two of them is perfect! I love the strength that Emily is finding within herself and I absolutely love Josh for being the one to encourage her to be confident and stand up for herself and others. She is such a kindhearted woman and I love seeing that spark come back into after what Trent did to her. The fact that Josh makes sure she knows that he loves her the way she is and that nothing she can do will ever make him hurt her. Josh might be crazy but her certainly cares about those close to him. He might not have a lot of people he cares for, but he makes sure that they are all protected. The fact that the entire time that Emily is with him, he keeps trying to find out what she is on the run from and who hurt her. He never stopped protecting her, I just didn’t think he expected to see her again or for her to ever need him. There at the end when he lied for her and then told the driver to turn around, my heart swelled so much for him. He knew she was going to need him now more than ever and he was going to be everything she needs. I think I screamed there at the end; I was so frustrated with that cliffhanger, but I loved it too. It just means I’ll be ready to devour the next book, as I must know what is in store for Josh and Emily. How is she going to get out of this and how is Josh going to help her? Will they finally get their HEA?? I freaking hope so, even though hope is a…
Words I need to find words, except I have none, I don’t know what to do with myself after Kylie Kent has left me on such a cliffhanger.
Possible Spoilers
Let me start by saying I am absolutely obsessed with that fact that this absolutely stunning book was written by an Australian Author and is set in numerous Australian locations, such a giant tick in my books. Secondly the world and the characters that Kylie Kent has created are absolutely breathtaking, her characters are realistic and they have flaws they have strengths, they have their triumphs but we also get to share in the trials and tribulations.
I am in awe of the relationship between Emmy and Josh and I have been on the edge of seat whilst reading this over the last twelve hours. I probably shouldn’t have started reading before I had to go to work, but I kept reading chapters whenever I had a spare moment today, I just couldn’t walk away from the world Kylie Kent has created.
I love that throughout this entire story we see not only a woman battling her own inner demons but we see a man struggle with his desire to protect her whilst he also desires to watch her grow and develop into her own independent woman who is with him because she chooses to be not because she needs to be there. The fact that these two main characters accept and welcome each other as they are is such a breath of fresh air, they accept each other with all the craziness and strangeness that happens around them, all whilst finding the time to have some extremely spicy and heartfelt moments.
Did someone put in a request for a sexy anti-hero? Because DAMN Kylie Kent has just delivered one in the most twisted and delicious of ways! Meet Josh - This man is psychotic, dark, twisted, possessive, and yet so damn delicious. And while he doesn't love and care for many when he does it is fierce! Emily is the one and only girl he has ever loved. In high school he kept his distance and protected her from afar. But unable to fully keep away from her he asks her for one night, and then to protect her from his dark world, he lets her go. If I only he knew for years to come her life would be constantly covered in darkness. Emily's story is absolutely heartbreaking. I loved that even after all she has endured she still has some sass, strength and fight in her. And if the cliffy is anything to go by she is going to need it. These two are light and dark but together they are sizzling perfection.... In Emily's words which I adored. Josh is the Tim to her Tam, the Vegemite to her toast, and the cookie to her cream. However...with secrets still clouding them, and enemies circling the story is just beginning for these two and I'm excited and nervous to see how this wild ride turns out. Bring on Book 2!!
A Highly Recommended dark read that is filled with action, violence, suspense, steam, romance, and a sprinkling of humour!
I read this book in a day and Kylie I want to live in your head Purley because that's where Josh is and he is everything!!
I absolutely fell completely and utterly head over heels in love with Emmy and Josh. Their story is going to be epically concluded in Ruining Him and I have front row seats....
Josh and Emmy are unconventional in every single way possible. Their story beings in high school and grows from there but not in anyway you'd expect, until one night. One night where the earth stopped moving and when the sun rose the world turned darker for both of them.
We pick up their tale 7 years later. 7 years of pain, torture, degradation, anger and hurt change in an instant and they're reconnected. It's painful, it's raw but this connection is beyond the physical its soul deep with these two. They are a match made in heaven with a love fordged in hell.
Emmy is damaged, beaten and broken and Josh is unhinged, unable to love, obsessive and blood thirsty. Together they can heal each other, together they could have it all but their own issues drive a wedge between them that might be too big to overcome, too big to escape and too big to beat.
The question is left wide open and you're left broken.. on your knees praying!!
*There are triggers in this book and it’s book one in a duet, so it ends on a cliffhanger!*
An emotional rollercoaster that will leave you speechless, have you wanting more and keep you impatiently waiting for book 2!!!
Horses, pigs and Josh, oh my!
A really over the top alpha, a woman with a secret and a past that’s about to come crashing through right into the present… this is DEFINITELY my kind of book!
From the start, I was drawn right into the story of Josh and Emily. How and where they met, their first interaction, what he did to her…
A party, a note and flash forward seven years.
Things have changed drastically and Emily has a big secret. She needs somewhere to go and there’s only one place she has in mind. It leads down a path into the past and without her knowing, her future. Josh picks up that call and his life is forever changed again. This time, there will be no second goodbye. Will Emily trust Josh with her secret?
The intense emotions, chemistry and way Josh and Emily are with is other is EVERYTHING!!! I literally couldn’t HELP falling in love with them! I can’t wait for the last part of their story! This was my first book by Kylie and it’s one of my favorite reads of 2021!

OH MY WORDS!!!! Kylie Kent has blown me away with her newest story.... Ruining Her which is book one in the McKinley Ranch Duet. I WANT and NEED more from Josh and Emily.... LIKE NOW! If you have been following along with Kylie's The Merge Series then you will have gotten a teaser at Josh in Entwined With Him. Josh is dark.. messed up... full of secrets... and just a character I was excited to read about after reading Dean and Ella's story and now I am hooked and I need Ruining Him so I can find out what happens next! I have been reading Kylie since the beginning and I can say that she is a favorite of mine. She writes these stories that are steamy, have that protective bad boy and strong independent female that puts these men in place. To watch Kylie grow as an author has been absolutely amazing and I can not wait to see where she goes as she keeps getting better with every book she writes. If you have not read Kylie Kent yet then I recommend you do!
