What could be more tranquil than a cruise in Tahiti? When the newly created French Polynesian Tourist Board announced The First Annual Gold Cup Cruise Competition several cruise lines jumped at the chance to enter.Cosmos Cruise Lines sent the Calypso, and they knew if they did their best, they might win. After all, they were the only 6 star ship in the contest. But somebody else had his eye on the prize, somebody who would do anything to win.
I had to give these ( the whole series) only two stars. While I thoroughly enjoy the story line, I can't abide shoddy editing, or lack thereof. Unfortunately it appears that there is no real editing. The grammatical errors are so many that it becomes difficult to continue with the story. I am talking multiple errors in almost every paragraph. I wish I could give more stars.
Poor mystery - better editing and proofreading needed
I wanted to like this book but at some point, it seemed as if the author forgot about the main premise. They went on and on about cruise lines and why one ship would be better than another and what their routes were... and then there was the proofreading or what seemed like the lack thereof. Some of the chapters ended weirdly, with the paragraph seeming unfinished, let alone the chapter. Then there was the repetition and stiff dialogues. Honestly, I had a hard time making it to the actual mystery (which was never even completely solved).
On the flip side, it shows that a lot of research/real life experience went into this book. The Cosmo's itineraries telling passengers what to expect were detailed... so detailed that I skipped most of them because again, I read this book for the mystery. Maybe I would've enjoyed it a bit more if I didn't already live in a tropical country and was looking to live vicariously through its descriptions. I downloaded the next book in the series alongside this one but at this point, I'm not sure I'll read it.
This was an excellent book and I learned a lot about Tahiti and the other islands the cruise ships visited during this competition. If this story didn't make you want to be on the Cozmos a d this cruise, nothing will. This series gets more exciting and more fun with each new book. I am really looking forward to reading the next book as there should be a wedding and Australia will be featured. Come cruise with us.
Lizzie Josephson has written another wonderful installment in her series. This one is a well researched and accurate depiction of the islands of French Polynesia. These books are a pleasant departure from the cozies based around murders. The mysteries are still well developed but just center on crimes aboard cruise ships that do not involve murder. Great series
I read ALOT so its hard to find a new series that's good and that I want to read but not only most his series good its SO good I am devouring it! The Con is that soon I will be finished with the last sentence in the last book and I will be sociology unhappy!
I enjoyed this one. It focused more on the competition and the characters from other ships. But I liked the write ups for each day and excursion and I was happy to see Adrienne and Keith for a few glimpses. The adventures were fun and it ended nicely.
The characters are wonderful and quirky. The plot is twisty and interesting. The world building is great. I'm looking forward to reading the next book.
Every cruise company thinks it will win the competition, don’t they??? And here comes the bribes and trickery!!! I enjoyed the story and recommend the book.
A wonderful cruise with all the luxuries possible goes to Tahiti and discovers there are some fellow cruise ship owners who will stop at nothing to win a trophy
A terriffic story, well detailed without being boring. Felt as though i was actually on the cruise. The story definitely created a desire to take a cruise
It's Tahiti this time, but always first class. Who will win the Gold Cup among the cruise lines? There is always someone up to no good and always intrigue. You will not be disappointed.
