A Fatal Family Feast

Rate this book
Angie Turner’s Idaho restaurant, the County Seat, is the perfect site for a picturesque country wedding, but the party planning skids to a halt when the groom-to-be is implicated in a murder investigation…

When Angie’s best friend and business partner, Felicia Williams, picks the County Seat to host her upcoming nuptials, Angie wants it to feel like a family affair--especially since Felicia is set to marry the farm-to-fork restaurant’s talented sous chef, Estebe Blackstone. Unfortunately, the bride’s actual family is far less enthusiastic about the union. They’re pulling out all the stops to cancel the couple’s wedding, even arranging for a surprise visit from Felicia’s ex-fiancé (and her father’s current lackey). But when her ex is killed days before the ceremony and Estebe is framed for the crime, Angie and the County Seat crew must scramble to solve the murder and save the wedding . . .

One of the best in the series so far! A Fatal Family Feast, the 6th Farm-to-Fork Mystery written by Lynn Cahoon, was a fantastic read. It combined all the best things about the setting by bringing the cast together for Felicia's wedding. When Felicia's ex shows up to cause trouble, her fiancé Estebe, tries to keep his cool. And he does! But someone still kills the guy and all the clues (well, not really... but a new detective has it in for the chef) point to Estebe. Angie must solve the case before her bestie's wedding is canceled. But she's not only fighting the police, she's also come to realize that all of Felicia's family wants to stop the wedding.

Lots of culprit possibilities. Great food and restaurant scenes. I truly want to get to Idaho soon. The backstory comes out in small increments, which helps bring more suspense than usual. The new hires at Angie and Felicia's restaurant all seem good, except something is boiling to the surface soon. My only niggles in this book were with the ending leaving some things open... I also would've liked more time with Estebe's family. We've met some in the past, but it was his wedding too. Plus, the scenes for the pre-wedding night events were hilarious yet too short.

Big news for Angie toward the end, also. Keeps the plots moving along, reader interest high, and a larger cast with some curious personalities. I really do enjoy Cahoon's books. This is third series of hers that I've fully caught up on, and I'm considering her other ones too. There is one more cozy that I'll definitely pick up, but I haven't decided on the other non-cozyish ones. Maybe I just need to spend more time getting to know them. A solid 4.5 stars on this book, and I need more soon, please!

This is a fun, easy read. I have not read the earlier books but this did not present a problem as the author provides enough information for the reader to know what has happened before.

For all the long time readers of the series this one must be a major highlight as two of the major characters, Felicia and Estebe, are preparing for their wedding. Then there is a murder and Estebe is a major suspect. Their friends all go into action to find the real culprit before the wedding is ruined.

Nice characters, some cute animals, an interesting mystery make for an entertaining and enjoyable read.

Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

A Fatal Family Feast by Lynn Cahoon is the sixth full length novel in the cozy Farm-to-Fork Mystery series which also has three companion novellas. As with most cozy mystery series each book of the Farm-to-Fork Mystery series can be read as a standalone if choosing to do so as each contains it’s own mystery solved by the end of the book. However, there is always a bit of character building within each read that carries over from book to book for those that follow the series from the beginning.

In this series Angie Turner has moved back to her hometown in rural Idaho after her grandmother’s passing and opened up a new restaurant, the County Seat. Angie’s restaurant has really taken off in the small town offering fresh ingredients straight from the surrounding farms. Angie has also gotten pretty good at solving the murders that keep turning up in the area although she keeps hoping to be done with her crime solving.

This time around Angie is preparing for the wedding of Angie’s best friend and business partner, Felicia Williams and Angie’s sous chef, Estebe Blackstone. Everyone at the County Seat are like family to Angie so of course she wanted to host the nuptials. But unfortunately just for the wedding Felicia’s ex comes to town trying to win her back and the next thing they all know is he is found murdered putting Estebe at the top of the suspect list.

The cozy Farm-to-Fork Mystery series is one that I have followed from the beginning being a fan of the author and her books. This series has all the ingredients I love in a cozy being full of humor, likable characters, some cute critters and an always engaging mystery. After six full length books and 3 novellas I feel like I’m returning to family in this series and after all of that time this felt like one of the best of the series so of course I will continue to return as long as the author does.

I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.

Lynn Cahoon is a go to author for me for a great cozy mystery. River Vista, near Boise, Idaho, is a small town and home of the County Seat Restaurant, where the staff use local farm products in their dishes. Angie Turner and her BFF and business partner, Felicia Williams, started the restaurant and events are gearing up for a wedding...that of Felicia and Sous Chef Estebe Blackstone. Things are going along well until Felicia's Boston family arrive to try to talk Felicia out of the marriage of someone beneath her. Even her old flame and associate of her father's, Jason, tries to get her to rekindle their relationship and return to Boston. When he turns up dead, Estebe is the number one suspect. The Scooby Do gang puts their sleuthing minds together to find the real killer. Did one of the Bostonians set him up? There is a temp who is helping out in the kitchen who is trying to sabotage things in the restaurant. When Angie fires her, she retaliates. This is a mystery that is multilayered and fun to watch unravel as the story spins. Angie gets a little too close to the killer and puts her life in danger. Will there be a wedding and/or honeymoon? Sweet and surprise ending. Another great addition to the series and looking forward to the next in the series.

A Fatal Family Feast is the 6th book in the Farm-to-Table Mystery series by author Lynn Cahoon. This time around the County Seat is preparing for the wedding of Felicia and Esteban. And, of course, as a reader, we shouldn't expect this to be easy for Angie and the rest of the characters to accomplish without at least one dead body. I really enjoy these characters and the setting. Ms. Cahoon has crafted wonderful characters who have gelled into a family. The way they care about each other comes across on the page. She has done a terrific job with both character development and story progression. In this installment, the reader is introduced to Felicia's family, who are not quite what you would expect given how Felicia's character is written.

As the team prepares for the wedding, Felicia's former boyfriend tries to convince her to come back to Boston but ends up dead before the wedding takes place. With Estaban as a primary suspect, the County Seat team must figure out who killed the ex-boyfriend and why. Ms. Cahoon crafted an interesting mystery that was well-plotted with a steady pace. In the end, the team is able to bring a killer to justice before the wedding begins.

This is a wonderful series and I thoroughly enjoy each new book. It has everything that readers would want in a cozy mystery series and there is something for every reader. Given the ending of this book, I certainly look forward to the next one in the series.

I voluntarily read a digital advanced reader copy provided to me by the publisher, Kensington, through NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own and were not influenced by the manner in which I received this book.

La storia non è male, ma mi è soprattutto piaciuto il finale con lo sviluppo nella vita della protagonista. Non capisco se la serie continuerà perché il libro successivo in realtà raccoglie i racconti scritti in precedenza.

Pretty good story with Angie and the gang. I thought it was a quick listen and was easy to follow. I think that the author pretty much tells you who it is early on. Then we just get to figure out why instead of who. The formula was more like a thriller than a cozy mystery. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series with Angie's relationship progressing more!

A FATAL FAMILY FEAST, the sixth book in the Farm to Fork Mysteries by Lynn Cahoon, is an engaging, yet bittersweet read. Knowing that this delightfully sweet cozy mystery series was coming to an end when I started the book, I wanted to savor every word yet couldn’t help but turn the pages faster and faster to find out what happened next. The entire cast of characters—from protagonist Angie Turner, to her best friend and business partner, Felicia, to her sous chef (and Felicia’s fiancé), Estebe, to the entire staff at their County Seat restaurant—have felt like family. While there might be conflict leading up to a murder in each book, Ms. Cahoon has imbued the core cast of characters with admirable characteristics. With their sense of kindness and honor, it’s been a pleasure observing their interaction with each other and with their community. There are also Angie’s charming pets: her lovable Saint Bernard puppy, Dom, along with a rescue goat, and a barnyard chicken. They add some humor to the story and steal each scene they inhabit.

With the story centered around the upcoming nuptial of Felicia and Esteban, there is plenty to celebrate and plenty to stress over. Felicia is especially distraught when her family tries to break up her engagement right before the big day, by bringing in her ex-fiancé to woo her. And when the ex is found murdered, law enforcement fingers Esteban for the dastardly deed. With strong descriptive writing, the author makes the reader feel the tension that Angie and her friends are experiencing and the terror that Felicia’s happily ever after might not ever take place. Uniting their creative intellects, the friends piece together clues and hunt down long ago secrets that might have had a hand in the death. Expertly weaving the past into the present, the threads of the crime came together in a surprising way and, in the end, left this reader highly satisfied yet quite sad to say goodbye to such great friends.

It's wedding time at the County Seat, but it appears that there are several people attempting to interfere from the bride's family to an old high school rival of the groom that would like to railroad him into jail for a crime he didn't commit! This series has characters with personality plus that you can't help but fall in love with! Excellent setting and the food is simply heavenly, if only I could really go there and eat! The plot of the books, this one in particular, are well thought out and woven in a way to further connect you with the characters while you unwrap the mystery of "who did it!" I absolutely can't wait for the next book as this one has a fabulous ending that definitely lets you know that more is to come!

The Farm To Fork cozy mystery series is a fun one. The more books I read by this author the more I want to read.
The author makes the well developed characters come to life within the pages. In this one we have a delightful wedding planned and when the brides' family comes to it they are not happy. She should still be with the ex-boyfriend they think and they give her grief.
When the ex is found dead it's assumed to be the groom to be. Will his name be able to be cleared in time? Kept my attention from the first page.

I really liked this one - this series is one of my absolute favorites and this one did not disappoint [completely, but more on that later]. I really love the dynamic of Angie and Ian and Felicia and Estebe and rest of the restaurant staff [and I ADORE how far Bleak has come and how she has blossomed under the love of Ian's aunt and uncle and the restaurant staff, especially Hope, who has taken her under her wing] and I love the setting of Idaho - it all combines to really great reads.

In this outing, everyone is prepping for Felicia and Estebe's wedding and all is going well until Felicia's former boyfriend shows up and then her parent's and half brother show up and then the former boyfriend ends up dead and naturally [this time I understood initially why they suspected Estebe as he was pretty close to the situation] Estebe is a suspect. But when he his clearly cleared, he is still a suspect due to a vendetta from a not-so-clean cop [I would have LOVED more backstory and resolution of THAT story-line] and it truly becomes up to the Sheriff [Allan], working behind the scenes and Angie to hunt down the killer. Now, to be fair, this was an easy mystery for me to solve [though I freely admit I did get a couple things wrong and that is totally okay] but it absolutely did not take away from the story as a whole. It was fun to watch them trying to figure it out [and I only think it is because they were all so personally close to the situation that kept them from seeing it sooner, though Angie I think truly knew all along] and it really made for a fun story - all the sleuthing mixed with marriage prep and watching 4 really close friends work together to save two of them from unhappiness - it was really fantastic.

NOW, to the problem of the book [for me, and this is the ONLY issue I have with this book] which is Ian. I really like Ian and I mostly like Ian and Angie together, but in this book, Ian started a behavior that annoyed the heck out of me - he starts complaining about money and how he doesn't have any [to do anything]. If you are a reader of this series, you know that Ian loves his job, doesn't want to change jobs and doesn't mind that he doesn't make a ton of money because that isn't what its about for him. Except now, apparently it is. The worse of the complaints [that happen in every chapter, and sometimes twice in one chapter] is that he barely has money to call his mom back in England [to which I call BS because of better phone plans, cell phone plans and things like FaceTime and WhatsApp where you can talk for free - all of this made this argument not FLY AT ALL for me] and then on the next page, not only does he buy lunch for he and Angie [even after she says she will cook] AND buys supper at a swankier than they usually go to restaurant. See how that kind of makes you scratch your head? I totally understand complaining about the lack of funds, but this was overkill and in keeping what we know of Ian, seemed very out of place and something I hope does not continue [.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the next one in the series. I cannot see where it takes the amazing crew of The County Seat!!

Thank you to NetGalley, Lynn Cahoon, and Kensington Books/Lyrical Press for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Dollycas’s Thoughts

Much to Angie Turner’s dismay her best friend Felicia Williams’s wedding may not happen. Her parents have determined that her intended is beneath her status and that they feel her ex is much better suited to her, their family, and their business. Felicia is over the moon in love with sous chef, Estebe Blackstone and she is not going to let her parent’s wishes delay her nuptials. Then her ex-fiancé is found dead and all the evidence points to her beloved. To make sure the wedding goes off without a hitch Felicia’s work-family pulls together to save her wedding and reveal the true killer. But Angie may have pushed the murderer too far . . . will she survive to see her BFF walk down the aisle.

Ms. Cahoon was written a very tangled web of a story in A Fatal Family Feast. It has a slow build as we are introduced to several new characters, mainly Felicia’s family and her ex. They are a determined bunch and for the most part totally unlikable. But darn it, Estebe really keeps his cool even with all he is up against. The author really allows readers to get to know him better. We even get to meet his family. I hope they pop up often in future stories because they all have a great sense of themselves and a great sense of humor. We also meet some new employees at the County Seat. They all seem to fit well into the existing team but there soon appears to be one very bad apple in the bunch.

Angie and Felicia have their hands full with the restaurant, the wedding, and now a murder but they do carve out just a little bit of time for some fun pre-wedding traditions. I really enjoy the way these characters grow in every story. Through the dire situations they get involved in their friendship just gets stronger and stronger. We also spend plenty of time at Angie’s farm with her animals and her relationship with Ian is definitely moving right along. These core characters along with Estebe are so relatable and fun in their own ways. It is a joy to eavesdrop on their lives.

The mystery this time is a tough one for the Scooby Gang. The pace really picks up after the murder. Angie’s determination really knew no bounds. As the wedding day approached Angie was really dealing with a lot and Ian was a terrific helpmate. His uncle Sheriff Allen Brown really impressed me too for the part he played. There were plenty of twists leading up to the amazing and scary reveal. I had pinpointed the killer a bit earlier but that scene had me positively riveted to the pages.

A Fatal Family Feast was an absolutely sensational read. The mystery was great, the characters are stellar, and the ending was so darn wonderful. I can hardly wait for the next book to be released.

Felicia Williams, Angie Turner’s business partner, is getting married to Estebe Blackstone in a week. Angieis busy with last minute preparations for the big event. Unfortunately, Felicia’s family is not happy about the upcoming nuptials. They send Felicia’s former fiancé to town to try and dissuade her from marrying Estebe. The meeting does not go well. When the former fiancé turns up dead, Estebe is at the top of the suspect list. Someone has set him up. If the wedding is to take place as planned, Angie needs to don her sleuthing cap and finds the guilty party. Can Angie solve the murder in time, or will the nuptials take place in the jailhouse? A Fatal Family Feast by Lynn Cahoon is the sixth A Farm-to-Fork Mystery. It can be read as a standalone if you are new to the series. All our favorite characters are back in this lighthearted cozy mystery. Angie, Dom, Mabel, Ian, Felicia, Estebe, and the rest of the County Seat staff. The characters are realistic and relatable. I love hearing about the antics of Angie’s menagerie. It is down to the final week before the wedding. They have enough to do without a murder on their hands as well as Felicia’s snooty parents. The mystery suited the story. There is misdirection along with several suspects. I like how the Scooby Gang worked to gather information and put together the clues to solve the crime. I wish the crime had been more of a challenge (I pegged the killer very early in the book). The ending will have fans smiling. The food descriptions will have your mouth watering. A Fatal Family Feast is a charming whodunit with imminent nuptials, a bothersome ex-beau, patronizing parents, a fervent fiancé, an incommodious murder, and a busy bridesmaid.

Murder and Marriage

I love the characters in this series so getting to Felicia's and Estebe's wedding you know it's going to be a wild ride. Since Felicia has had family issues on and off she's not happy when her ex- boyfriend shows up the week before her wedding, knowing that he still works for her father, she is sure he's up to no good, so she drags Angie to the meeting. When he shows up dead her fiancee becomes a suspect. Can Angie and the crew find out what really happened so that Felicia can have the wedding of her dreams. You will enjoy this wild ride as we find out!!!

Angie Turner’s restaurant, the County Seat, is the perfect site for the wedding of her best friend and business partner, Felicia Williams, and the sous chef, Estebe Blackstone. Unfortunately, Felicia's family is far less enthusiastic about the union. They want the wedding cancelled believing that her ex-fiancé is a better choice. But when her ex is killed days before the ceremony and Estebe is framed for the crime, Angie must come up with a solution before the wedding is off.
This was a great culinary cozy mystery. Angie is a very likeable character who believes that family doesn't just mean a blood relation. She goes all out to keep her loved ones safe. The plot was exciting with a touch of romance which makes it a fun read. I felt the ending was a little predictable, but it was still a satisfying read. This was a good cozy mystery (though to be honest, there was little mystery as to who the culprit was). The characters are interesting and likable and the setting is the typical small town setting. In other words, this is a standard cozy mystery - which is perfectly fine. It’s what you want in a cozy. And even though this is the sixth in the series, we get enough background to know who is who and what’s going on without being hit over the head with details. We are comfortable with the characters and their interactions, and they do move forward in their relationships so that’s even better. I haven’t read the others in the series, and yet I knew enough about them to know what was going on with them and why.

Recommendations: For a comfortable, nice cozy mystery with some recipes at the end, pick this one up. Especially if you’ve read the others in the series. And even if you haven’t, you won’t be lost. Enjoy.

Weddings and murder definitely don't mix, especially when the murder affects the bride's family without being a member of said family. Angie was determined her bestie was going to have the best wedding day ever, so she quickly got on the case. Once she had a suspect, she didn't let go this time. It was really more about how the perp was caught as opposed to whodunit which after piecing things together did seem obvious. I liked the game of cat and mouse that was set in between all the regular activities Felicia and Angie had to get in before the wedding.

The showdown was really good, and the book's ending was even better! I hadn't seen any of that coming, so there was definitely some happy eye leakage going on while I read. I can't wait to see what the next book brings!

It was wonderful to be back in River Vista, Idaho, this time for a wonderfully special event. Co-owner of the upscale County Seat farm-to-fork restaurant, Felicia, is marrying the best guy in the whole world for her – Estebe, who is a chef. He owns and rents out various homes around the area. The income from the side business far outweighs what he makes as a sous chef, but he truly loves to cook and to create new dishes. He is extraordinarily generous with the people he cares about, even renting to those in need at a drastically reduced rate.

Angie, chef and the other co-owner of County Seat, is committed to doing whatever is necessary for her best friend to have the perfect wedding. Estebe is committed to doing whatever is necessary for Felicia to be happy, period. But would that include murder? All who love him say “no way”. The detective on the case, who went to school with him, is committed to putting Estebe behind bars.

How did they get to this point? Felicia’s ex-boyfriend came to town with her parents a week before the wedding. They wanted her to reconsider her decisions and return to Boston with them. She should do the responsible thing and work for her father’s highly successful firm and marry Jason, who her father chose to be her husband when she was in high school. For Jason to take what he believes is his rightful place in the company, he needs her to marry him. Then he is found murdered, and Roland, the detective, believes Estebe killed him to keep from losing his fiancée, and is unwilling to consider anyone else.

The Scooby gang, as they call themselves, is on the case! Angie, Felicia, and some of their staff have helped solve murders in the past, and they have the best reason to do so now. Nobody wants to see Estebe in prison. And nobody wants them to postpone their wedding. Whether or not they will be able to find the murderer of someone who lives thousands of miles away remains to be seen.

I love this gathering of people who are a cobbled-together family by choice rather than by blood. The employees and owners of County Seat, except for a strange, revengeful, temporary chef that Angie had to let go, are as close as a family, both at work and outside of work. Each brings unique personalities and talents and are very well-defined through their actions and realistic conversations.

I have loved this series from the beginning, and this novel did not disappoint. The characters are endearing, as are Angie’s pets. This mystery was quite a challenge, but I did have a pet suspect of my own. They are down to the wire on the morning of the wedding, but at least Estebe is out of jail. Their honeymoon may be postponed indefinitely. I very much enjoyed this cozy mystery, written with excellence and giving us a fine, satisfying resolution to whodunit. I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys well-written cozy mysteries with delightful characters, specialty restaurants and foods, and an elusive whodunit.

A Fatal Family Feast earns 5/5 Wedding Woes…Engaging Page-Turner!

Angie Turner is excited about the upcoming nuptials between her BFF Felicia Williams and her sous chef Estebe Blackstone, but Felicia’s wealthy Boston family had an unwavering idea of the type of man she should marry, and despite the groom’s financial security, his Basque heritage and working-class employment doesn’t fit. The family agrees to attend, but Felicia is upset that the father refuses to walk her down the aisle and sent her former fiancé to intimidate her to cancel the ceremony and return to Boston even floating the idea of starting up again with the ex. So who gets blamed when Mr. Suit and Tie is found murdered; circumstances point to the groom!

Lynn Cahoon’s sixth novel in her Farm-to-Fork Mystery immediately ramps up the drama with family dissension, veiled threats and personal insults flying, and questions whether the wedding will even happen when the groom comes under suspicion of murder. A challenge to my inner detective, other motives are connected to the death of Felicia’s ex since his “fix-it” employment with Felicia’s father might raise some interesting conflicts along with surprising connections and past tragedies. The lead detective holds a longtime grudge against Estebe, so his myopic focus sees little else, giving Angie, of course, personal motivation to insert herself, and the “Scooby-Doo gang,” into the case. The well-plotted story is quite compelling with characters I’ve come to enjoy under such a dark cloud, an air of prejudice against the local Basque community, and some perilous predicaments culminating in a shocking twist to the age-old motive of…revenge. Engaging. Compelling. Page-turner. Delicious…recipe included. It’s been another long busy day, but a nice meal is just minutes away. Enjoy Lynn Cahoon’s Workday Quick and Easy Risotto.

This is quickly becoming one of my favorites series and definitely a comfort read. I always know I’ll get a well plotted mystery with characters that are so welcoming, they really do feel like family. And now, there’s a wedding to sweeten the deal. I really enjoyed this latest visit to the County Seat. Through the wedding, we got to meet more of Estebe’s large family, and some of Felicia’s, and with all their future plans laid out at the end of this one, I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Even though I have only read four other books (there are nine in total so far including the related novellas) in Lynn Cahoon's Farm-to-Fork Mystery series set in a restaurant, 'The County Seat' in Idaho, I still jumped at the opportunity to read this one, A Fatal Family Feast as I enjoy a well written cosy, and this looked like it fitted the bill.

Angie Turner runs her own restaurant alongside her best friend, Felicia Williams. In this story, Felicia chooses The County Seat as the venue for her marriage to Estebe Blackstone. However, the bride's wealthy family aren't happy with Felicia's choice of hubby, even going so far in their sabotage attempts of the wedding to organise a surprise for her in the form of her ex-fiancé, Jason Anderson Roberts the Third. When Jason turns up dead, Estebe is the number one suspect.

Although there is some character building in these stories I had no difficulties keeping up with characters and events, and this book can be enjoyed as an individual instalment. The plot was fun and lively and Mabel and Dom, Angie's St Bernard dog have really won my heart. A compelling tale, there was a very strong family theme running throughout, together with a heavy focus on other relationships and friendships. Events moved along at a comfortable pace and the mystery itself was fantastic with the ending turning out to be very interesting. I had a blast reading this highly amusing and entertaining cozy mystery and I'm already looking forward to catching up with Angie and her cohorts in the next book as well as grabbing copies of the books I've missed.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Kensington Books, Lyrical Press via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.

A Fatal Family Feast
Farm-To-Fork Mystery, Book #6
Lynn Cahoon
5 Stars

Synopsis:

But when her ex is killed days before the ceremony and Estebe is framed for the crime, Angie and the County Seat crew must scramble to solve the murder and save the wedding . . .(Amazon)

Review:

The characters are well developed and well rounded. Everyone one at the County Seat is very excited about the upcoming wedding between Felicia and Estebe. But Felicia’s family is not too thrilled and will do what they can to keep it from happening. They even have Felicity’s ex-fiance try to talk her out of it. When he is killed, Estebe is a person of interest. Angie and Felicia have to find the killer before the groom is put behind bars. Angie, Felicia and the Scooby gang have their work cut out for them.

The writing style flows smoothly and it defines the characters very clearly by their action and words. The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and these descriptions pulled me into the story from the very beginning. The mystery is well plotted and there were enough suspects to consider and clues to sift through.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. Read this book and find out if there is going ti be a wedding or not.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book provided by the publisher, Kensington Books, and NetGalley, which I greatly appreciate.

I really enjoy the Farm-to-Fork Mystery series and this one was the best one yet. Angie Turner and her best friend Felicia Williams own The County Seat, a Farm to Fork restaurant. Felicia is getting married to one of their sous chef, Estebe Blackstone. Unfortunately, her parents are not happy about the upcoming nuptials. They send Felicia's ex, and second in command at her parent's business to Boise Idaho, to try and win her back so she will call off the wedding. Instead of winning her back, he ends up dead and Estebe is the main suspect in his death. If they want the wedding and honeymoon to happen, they need to find another suspect to get Estebe off the hook. With all this going one, someone is vandalizing the restaurant and setting up Estebe for the murder. Felicia is also dealing with her parents refusal to attend her wedding. Can they find out who murdered Jason?

I really like the main characters in this series. Many of them work together at the restaurant, the others are family and friends. Angie is such a strong and smart person. She is loyal, friendly and such a wonderful part of the community. She does take risks when it comes to helping her friends, but fortunately, she manages to get out of trouble with some help. This was a great mystery, with lots of twists and clues to follow. It was pretty obvious who the killer was but finding proof, motive and catching the murderer was the interesting part of the story. With all this going on, there are great scenes at the restaurant, scenes with family and friends and pre-wedding parties and activities that added humor and fleshed out the story. This was a great addition to the series and I am looking forward to what is next for Angie, Ian and the rest of the cast. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of tis book upon request. The rating and opinions shared are my own.

A Fatal Family Feast is already the sixth book in Lynn Cahoon’s Farm-to-Fork mystery series, and it is beginning to feel like home. This book does not disappoint, bringing us a clever mystery along with both charming hometown characters and characters you love to hate.

Angie Turner, owner of the County Seat, wants the upcoming nuptials of her business partner, Felicia Williams, and her talented sous chef, Estebe Blackstone, to come off without a hitch. The bride’s parents, however, have another thought in mind, descending on the small Idaho town intending to convince Felicia to return home to the family business. Also arriving is Felicia’s ex-fiancé, Jason, who likewise is determined to derail the wedding. But when Jason ends up dead, Estebe becomes the prime suspect. Can Angie clear his name in time for Felicia to have her happily ever after?

One thing I really enjoy about this series are its people. Angie, her boyfriend Ian, and Estebe in particular are resourceful and empathetic characters whose down-home charm is instantly relatable. Even Felicia (who appeared superfluous in the first couple of books) has grown on me, especially in this book where she garners much sympathy for her plight. The mystery, too, is top-notch, with several unexpected twists and turns to keep you guessing. The suspects, too, include a good number of “bad guys” with evil motives. The wedding aspect puts additional pressure on Angie to solve the case and ups the ante for all involved.

All told, A Fatal Family Feast is a cozy mystery at its finest, with enough mystery – and enough cozy – to keep you reading beside the fire on a cold winter night.

Lynn Cahoon's Farm-to-Fork mystery series is fun because of the characters. In A Fatal Family Feast, Angie Turner and Felicia Williams are running their farm-to-table restaurant, The County Seat, in southwestern Idaho. It's March and Felicia's wedding to sou chief, Estebe Blackston, is days away. Things are also good between Angie and her boyfriend, Ian McNeal. But then Felicia's ex-fiance, Jason Anderson Roberts III, comes to River Vista for a visit. He works for her father and has come to talk her into going back home. Felicia wants nothing to do with him, but then he is shot and killed and Estebe is the prime suspect! Angie, Felicia, Ian, and Estebe go into sleuth mode to try to figure out who the murderer is. I really enjoyed this book. The story has a great flow and kept me turning the pages to see what happened next!

Wow!! This was a great book. It is #6 in Ms Cahoon's Farm to Fork Mysteries, and it did not disappoint! Angie's best friend and partner,Felicia, is getting married, to sous-chef extradinare, Estebe. Although they originally wanted to hold the wedding at Angie's farm, it is eaarly enough in the spring to feel safer holding it inside at their restaurant. About 2 weeks before the ceremony, Angie's old boyfriend shows up, bent on talking her out of the wedding, and back to her family in Boston. When he turns up dead later that week, it is up to Angie and company to discover who killed him, and why. I loved that there were numerous red herrings, ties to Angie's past, and multple things to throw the armchair detective off the scent.
I always enjoy a book by Lynn Cahoon, and this is just the latest, and perhaps, the best one yet!!

Angie is excited to hold her best friends wedding at their restaurant the County Seat. Felicia will be marrying their head cook Estebe and the future looks bright for the two of them. Things take a turn when Felicia's family arrives into town, none are happy about the marriage. Angie soon realizes they will do just about anything to keep the couple from getting married. They even go as low as to bring her ex into town. When the ex is found murdered and the groom is the main suspect it looks as if a wedding might not happen. Angie and her crew will not stop until they figure out who the killer is and make sure that a wedding does happen.
