Alien Mercenary's Destiny

Rate this book
He saved her from certain death. She didn’t count on him being a… nerd.

A Tarviisan pit fighter forced to fight for survival her entire life, Zadaenae is sure she’s about to breathe her last when she’s cornered during a breakout. But help comes from an unexpected quarter; an alien with the infamous Warborne Mercenary team. Only her savior isn’t an experienced mercenary, he’s a scientist without a clue about fighting…

Wracked with guilt over his injuries saving her, she takes a hire with the Warborne to stick around, even though the last thing she needs is the scarily intelligent, utterly fascinating human finding out her deepest, darkest secret…

He nearly died. Then he became something else. Something… not human.

Dr. Eric Archer has all the smarts he’s ever needed, but multiple degrees don’t mean anything on the alien mercenary vessel, Sprite. Instead of working in a lab, he’s had a crash course in battlefield tactics, field stripping alien rifles, and shooting just to stay alive and earn his place among the lethal aliens.

She’s an alien. And a princess. He needs to up his game to have any chance…

When rescuing a beautiful damsel in distress almost kills him, an experimental alien treatment saves his life. And makes him more than human. Makes him something… else. Forced to deal with more new muscles than he knows what to do with, plus hormones and instincts no human has ever encountered before, Eric must navigate his new abilities and prove to alien princess Zadaenae he's the only man she'll ever need.

But he’s not the only one with eyes on his beautiful alien princess. She’s someone else’s means to an end, and this scientist must use everything at his disposal: new skills and old alike to try and save the woman he loves…

Let yourself go with me

I loved this one! Don’t get me wrong all of the Lathar are my favorite, but there is just something so sweet about the way these two meet, the connection they make, and the way she liked him when he was nothing more than a geek, with a weapon, making bad decisions. The author brought back my favorite crew and the new addition is an absolute gem. I really can’t wait to read the story that goes with the nugget she left at the end of the story. It’s going to be amazing!

The 4th Warborne installment hits all of the buttons for bravery, blind bravado and romance that is both sweet and slow burns into an all out inferno!
Eric ,a human scientist runs to defend Zad, a beautiful alien female even though he has no real skill set but gets bonus points for the distraction created to allow her to get free to help him!
Thus the beginning of their journey and all of the surprises and pitfalls that arise.
The crew is as crazy as always with the snarky dialogue but whose loyalty is second to none.
An unforgettable read.

3.5 stars. Not really what I was expecting. I think I would have preferred Eric as himself and not so enhanced. Along with his body, his entire demeanor changed. Eric, the Eric, was lost. Perhaps if it was a gradual change and not instantaneous, I would feel better about it. Zad I liked. Very, very insecure, but understandable. Her mom was a complete b*tch! I did not like that Zad did not go and address her brothers. I felt her life story was rushed and incomplete. Her brothers just learned she was alive, then lost her to Eric. Just felt incomplete. Perhaps there will be more when they locate her halo. Looking forward to the next Warborne.

Good story

I did take 1 star off due to an error. Lizzy is the twin on the Sprite not Jess. I don't take mistakes like that lightly.
Also I can't be the only person that assumed the kid from the last book was Beauty's. Like it's pointed out all the time how they are the last two in existence. So...? I literally don't understand what happened there.
Okay on to the story. I like Eric and Zad. We got to see something different. Mostly good, a little weird. I'm okay with that. I like the camaraderie between the crew. Overall this was a good addition to the series.

Excellent

Wow just wow. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this new instalment of the Warborne. Fast paced, well Written sci-fi romance with some very hot scenes. The characters are amazingly likeable, although Eric was a bit difficult to like at first. I can't wait to read more in this series.

The overall plot was just as good as the other books in this series, but I do have a few things I didn't personally like in this book. A few complaints, I guess... 1st was Eric's DNA changes. Adding a little DNA changing here or there's no big deal, but to have his body grow so drastically over night, was disappointing. The whole premise of the book was that nerdy scientist falls in love with badass fighter. Sure, he was still a bit of a scientist, but whereas before he was the stereotypical nerd, after his change, he was much more fighter than nerd, and ther fighter overshadowed the scientist, it was a disappointing character change. Then, when he completed the DNA sequence that made him consort and gave him armor, the Krynassis clearly thought the "mate bond" was already done, and he was a consort, but Zad and Eric hadn't yet completed it so he technically wasn't consort yet. I didn't agree with him just conveniently acquiring essentially major DNA changes and losing a lot of the essence of his character. 2nd at the very beginning, when he heard Zad scream in the pits and went running to her rescue, why did he do that? According to the book he gained the Krynassis DNA due to all the injuries he sustained in that fight and Zad's armor answered at the end of the fight when, theoretically, the Krynassis DNA had become a part of him, that's when he became her mate, the book gives no reason for him to have heard her scream in all that chaos and been attracted to her enough for his emotional brain to take over his logical brain and send him running to her rescue. Lastly, my final complaint is with Zad, not with her inability to read/write, I think that was a pretty good "flaw" to give her, but the way the story was written made it feel like there was more she was hiding than that, something she didn't want him or the Warborne knowing about her past, but in the end there was nothing like that.
So overall, I did like the book for the most part, but I felt it could have been better, and I can't say it's a book I would read again...

Alien Mercenary’s Destiny is the fourth book in the Lathar Mercenaries: Warborne series, but it could be read as a stand alone. Zad, a survivor of the pits, is saved by Eric, a Warborne mercenary scientist. After a life-saving procedure, Eric becomes something more than just human, but either way, he calls to Zad and all of her alien instincts. But when he life is in danger, can Eric master more than just his new characteristics to save his mate?

Oh my goodness! This might be my most favorite book I’ve read from Ms. Carter! Zad and Eric completely captivated me, stole the show, and I did not want to put this book down! So good! Heart pounding action and breath taking romance, drama, danger, and a couple different fights for their lives, and I was just hooked. Zad is a literal princess, but if you look at her life, you wouldn’t know it. Knowing only pain and survival, she’s desperate to learn about love and friendship. She has some pretty big insecurities, especially with a super smart human mate, but I loved how much of a fighter she was, and how courageous she needed to be. Eric was so dang smart! I loved that he didn’t really understand females, but he was willing to learn, especially from his mistakes. I loved that he needed his strength and confidence to help, but mostly he needed his mind. They both seemed to have some broken pieces in their souls, and once they came together, they fit so well. Some boiled down to pride and insecurities and family issues, but they definitely had some hurtles to overcome to find their love. Oh man, sooo good! I loved this book! I want to reread this whole series again so that I can reread this book and experience Eric and Zad all over again!

The Warborne are back and Eric is about to show his sister and the crew that even Eggheads can get the girl!

We left the Warborne having freed the fighters from the Pits. Zad was one of the fighters. She should be Queen in waiting but her mother...well, she is a megalomaniac and decided that having a daughter was more of a challenge than a blessing. She will NOT be winning mother of the year!

Eric has no combat experience but when he sees Zad cornered and outnumbered he just launches himself into the fray! He ends up being the one needing to be saved though! Zad is grateful to the brave if slightly out of his depth Earthling and he weirdly managed to call forth her armour, something only a mate should be able to do. With his horrific injuries, and due to some meddling of his own, Eric's breakthrough medical procedure acts a bit like Captain America's and he pops out a new and improved version of himself.

I loved that even with Eric's new improved body he still retains all his smarts, he still relies on brain first even as he flexes all these new muscles that he has. Zad loved Eric before his transformation, even though she wouldn't admit it and that didn't change. She saw Eric for himself and not what he could or could not do.

There are plenty of laughs, usually supplied by Skinny but he, Finn and Red are an interesting combination! We also get to learn more about Krynassis culture. I'm also hoping Princess Ameria, Meri to her friends, will be back too 'cause she is a brainiac who knows her worth!

I absolutely loved this story! I loved getting to see more of Eric and seeing him come into his own more with the Warborne and feel more confident in that respect. Zad was awesome and I loved the interactions between Zad and Eric. Eric is not the best in the social arena but he is so focused on Zad that he does pretty good and then he gets all the new instincts erupting in his system from what they did to save his life. I loved the twists and turns in this story and I can't wait to figure out what is going to happen next! I am super excited for where this series is headed. This is book can be read as a standalone but I do think that if you have read the previous books in this series you will get more enjoyment out of it as the Warborne clan is very close so you are attached to the characters before their stories and after their stories happen. I loved getting to know the crew better and continue to see them moving forward. This is a spin off series to the Lathar as well and there are still some connections that if you are reading both you will get to pick up on a little more as well, though it is not needed and you won't really feel like you are missing something. I loved how everything was weaved together and I can't wait to find out where things are going next. I can't wait for who I think the next book is about! I thoroughly enjoyed this story and have been thoroughly enjoying this series and am super excited for where things are going.

He was only human and despite his brilliant mind and scientific achievements, Dr. Eric Archer felt inadequate within the Warborne group. His near death experience, gave him not only self-confidence, but the update also gave him the means to protect Zadaenae. Zad's story was tragic. Unwanted, rejected, and exposed to certain death, Zad never thought she would have a chance to be loved for being herself, much less for a hopeful future. Both protagonists fought an internal struggle with their feelings, their doubts and fears where Zad seemed to be the most affected. Interesting the confrontations that occur between them and how Eric makes drastic decisions at the risk of everything. There is a lot of action, strong emotions, suspense, violence, some funny situations, romance and passion that kept me very attentive to the plot development where the Warbornes showed their skills. Sparky, the ex-convict, took my attention. He has become an enigma with his dark vibe that makes us think that he is hiding something. These mercenary warriors and the women who will become their mates keep me intrigued by enjoying the intense and exciting situations in which they are involved. Voluntarily reviewed this book that I received from BookFunnel and I liked.

Here the reader has Eric & Zad's story. The action is intense and grabs the reader from the first page. I was invested in Eric & Zad's story from the beginning. Both these main characters proved personable; each in their own way. Scientific nerd meets battle worn Zadaenae aka/Zad fresh from the Tarviisan fight pits. She has only had herself to rely on until this white knight comes to save her butt; he just doesn't have much where with all to do it. Afterall, Eric is not doesn't have the build of his fellow shipmates but Zad's situation beckons to him to try. Eric is shy, words don't come easy to him, and he stumbles to compliment Zad. True to Ms. Carter's writing style laughs come and chuckles abound. But the seriousness of the plot can't be ignored. Threats to Zad come from an unexpected alien but taking the Krynassis culture into account the reader must chalk it up to jealousy. All the crew is present for this book and lend much to this plot. Each woman or female shows her strength in combatting enemies. And a new character, Princess Ameria, shows herself a force to reckoned with. I was given an ARC via Bookfunnel for my honest review.

Eric is a nerd and scientist. He doesn’t do guns and certainly can’t carry one well. When he hears a cry for help during the breakout, he decides to investigate. He certainly didn’t expect to be saving a princess. He also didn’t expect to be altered due to his injury. Zad was holding her own till she got trapped. When a human came to her rescue and ended up getting almost killed in the process. More than that, she finds out that he is her consort.

I have to say I didn’t expect that turn of events. I didn’t think Zad’s consort would be Eric. He is such a scientist. Most of the jokes go over his head. But he is a man with a big heart. He sees Zad as an angel. With his enhancement due to his injury, he is a lot stronger. But he screws up and hurts Zad. Zads past shows up and the Warborne isn’t about to let one of their own to be taken. I laughed, cried and even was shocked at what was happening. Zad was a fighter and thank goodness for that. The crew was great and as strong as ever. You have to love the Warborne. We just need to find someone for T’Raal. Red needs to make a decision on her feelings.

Alien Mercenary's Destiny - book 4

Great! Just great! Eric and Zad's story is incredible all in itself. Lots of action and great dialogue. Warborn really is a uniquely different mercenary group. They adopt Zad into their midst after the heroic fight to free their shipmate and the slaves at the arena. She has no home and can't return to where she is from or her mother will kill her. They embark on some missions all working together like the well oiled machine they are. Zad passes the test T gives her to qualify to stay permanently. She gets kidnapped by a goon her mother sends. Then it turns into a bunch of medical DNA changes and upgrades that seem a bit farfetched to me but I enjoyed the story so much, I just went with it. Eric and the team set out to rescue her. Medical ? aside, I think you'll love the story too. I read straight through the night till morning. Its now 6:49 a.m. Hope my review helps!

Eric and Zad are awesome! From fighting pits, major trauma and learning curves of other aliens and becoming Warborne the excitement never stops. I can usually take a few short breaks when reading but this one I couldn’t, it was so engrossing. The heat between our couple and the mind boggling medical miracles that occur for them is over the top. I normally can only read a few books in a row from any given author, even my faves, but Mina Carters series I can’t stop reading. Thankfully I banked her books so I’ve been able to roll thru 8 of the Lathar series and into the Warborne series, not sure what I’ll do to bring me out of it when I hit the last one😒 hopefully there will be a new one by then. Highly recommend.

I do love a hunky geek hero…

Eric is the man of my dreams. A scientist with so much courage and a heart of gold. Having the alien mercenary be a woman is a welcome change to the typical human woman with an alien male. Zad is a heck of a heroine, most times she is the one saving herself or someone else, and still she is a beautiful female. This story picks up right where the last Warborne book left off but stands alone also. The science fiction (heavy on the science), action, and romance all stand equally in this storyline and keep you riveted until the very last page. Great read!

Lathar Warborne mercenaries strike again.

Human scientist Eric Archer is injured when he rescues Zadaenae from the save fighting pits. When he wakes, he discovers the Lathar regenerative treatment has reacted with his DNA to give him the body of a Lathar warrior.

Zad is a krynassis, sold to the pits by her mother who did not want a rival for her throne. Her interactions with Eric lead her to believe he could be her mate and consort.

There are fights, rescues, hot sexy scenes, action, romance, and a very enjoyable read.

A Great Adventure

Zad and Eric's story had lots of fighting, adventure, sex, and new worlds. It was very entertaining. But I am surprised the Beta readers left us hanging! No one thought we needed to know how Zad's brothers and the rest of the hive fared? No Queen? Could they survive without one? This was a big downfall of the story-line. We have a different culture that is now irrevocably changed. Should have lost a star? Even Eric should have been concerned from a scientist's view.

Alien Mercenary’s Destiny

I’ve been following this series from the beginning. I’m familiar with the characters. There was something about the story that didn’t gel with me. Yes, the story was about Eric and Rad but it’s like something wasn’t coming together for me. The story seemed to lack a personal depth. That’s not to say the story was bad because it wasn’t. It was as if it been quickly written but something was just not there. There are sexual scenes that may offend some readers.

Good book

I really enjoyed reading this book. Zad is such a confident warrior. She’s had a tough life hiding from her mom, preferred her dead than to take over as the next Queen of their alien hive group. Eric is a nerdy genius scientist human who went from skinny and weak to an over large muscular man due to genetic changes when he was patched up from near death. Their attraction was immediate and off the charts. There’s lots of action and a cool fight scene.
Their romance is good and I enjoyed getting to know them. I recommend this book and can see me reading it again.

Carter gives us the best of this series with this one…Eric and Zad’s story. What I love about this series is the freshness of the storyline while still expanding on the adventures of these mercenaries. We still “see” the old characters that we have come to love while reading an exciting, suspenseful and romantic story. Eric’s journey from a geek to an alpha is written beautifully. I hope this series new ends!

Zad gets her story and the geeky scientist! I was intrigued with Zad from the last story. This story is one for the books. Without spoilers, I can say that Eric goes through a lot of growing and changing to become the right man, for Zad. I felt for Zad and what she had to go through as a child and even now at the hands of her family. The Warborns were family and as such so were Zad and Eric. The action and story was enjoyable.

I'm always excited to get a new Lathar book and if it happens to be a Warborne addition, double the excitement! This story has a little role reversal...the female is the kicka** alien and the male is a nerdy human. Loved it!!! Of course when the rest of the crew of the Sprite start getting involved in Eric's love life the giggles start. Can't wait for the next book. I received an Advance Reader's Copy of this book which I am voluntarily reviewing.

An enjoyable sci-fi romance.

I really enjoyed the trip into Krynassis physiology, instincts, and culture. The heroine was deeply sympathetic, and the hero was deliciously alpha. I thought the departure from most sci-fi romances of having a human hero and alien heroine was interesting. It is making me wish for an RH series featuring the Krynassis! :) I look forward to reading Red’s book next. An all around enjoyable read.

Mina Carter just drop another Alien to fall in love again.

I'm going to edit my review once I done reading the book. I'm just sad and disappointed that the next book will be MFM. It's not my cup of tea so please let me accept that the next book (and next and next... If there's a next menage book) will not be my fav so I'm going to escape but for now, let me focus reading this one and also the next book for The Omega Collective Series — Warr ❤️

Highlight in a great series

This is one of the best books in one of Mina Carter's best series. Honestly, any of them are one of the best. How she continues to be creative in this universe is a marvel. The characters, story and action are fun and engaging. The heat level is perfect--not contrived or tired. It is actually an organic part of the plot. These books a satisfying pleasure, for sure.

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I love the Lathar. This book is no exception, even though it is not really about the Lathar.
This is about a Krynassis pit fighter and a human nerd that almost gets himself killed trying to save her. I had a blast reading the lengths he went to impress her. Opposites in almost every way.
This was so much fun.

Love Eric and Zadaenae! Their story was so unexpected and that’s what I love about the series. There’s always something about the geek getting his HEA and when Eric turns to hot alpha brings their story to a whole new level. Danger, excitement and a heat level that sizzles make this newest addition a must read! Can’t wait for The next story in this series that doesn’t disappoint.

Eric and Zad

Eric is a great scientist. Not a great social person. When he saved a lot fighter from a clutch of Krynassis. He gets wounded badly and they have to patch him up. Zad really likes Eric. Eric is extremely drawn to Zad. They are cute as they dance around each other. Great story. Loved the whole thing!!
