Most Texas game wardens work alone much of the time in very rural out of the way and unnamed places. It is not uncommon for wardens to find themselves in situations where they are enforcing the law on uncooperative subjects who are armed. They are alone with no other officers in sight for miles. And, at a hidden hunting camp on some secluded ranch at midnight, no one could find them even if backup was available. This is when training, skill, experience, and luck come in. The skills and knowledge they possess, the conditions that they sometimes work under, and the uniqueness of the state they serve makes Texas State Game Wardens an elite group of law enforcement officers. For a quarter century the author was proud to be one of those game wardens. These are his stories.
TALES OF A TEXAS GAME WARDEN is an opportunity for a reader to climb aboard and go on patrol with one of Texas' most experienced and well-known game wardens. In the woods and over the water, through daylight and darkness, sometimes deadly serious, sometimes just humorous, this thrilling collection of tales reveals what it is really like to wear the blue badge of a Texas Game Warden.
A must read book! Exciting real life stories of our Texas Game Warden!
Great book! We watch Lone Star Law and know Benny and his family. Thank you for your years of service and for sharing your stories! I hope you write another book and share more! We watch the show with our grandkids and have learned a lot. Enjoy your well earned retirement!
If you ever saw the show "Lone Star Law", you would have seen Benny Richards in action. Just like on TV, Benny is the same in his books. When I heard he was retiring, I was like no but, after his long service in law enforcement and 25 years as a Badass Texas Game Warden, he deserves his time with family and friends. As soon as I found out he was writing, I had to buy these books. Love them all. Thank you for your service.
I enjoyed reading Tales Of A Texas Game Warden. Benny Richards does a fine job telling the tales of his time as a Texas Game Warden. I started and finished this book in one day, it kept me wanting to learn more about his time as in my opinion, one if not the best game warden Texas had to offer. He has since retired from that profession and I am sure his departure from the department was a sad day. I rated this book 5 stars and onlt wish there were a higer amount of stars to give, as I felt this book deserved it. If you are looking for a biography that will have you wishing you were along side Benny Richards while he was out on patrol, then look no further. This book will make you feel as though you are cruising down any dirt road and feeling every pothole , in the company of not only an amazing game warden, but also a great man telling you his story

Hi my name is Emily Hale and I watch lone star law all the time and benny Richards was the one that really kept me interested in the show so benny I'm a huge fan of you and if I could meet you in person, one day that would mean a lot to me and your books are informative and awesome , because I have autism and your books are able to hold my attention.
so again I would love to meet you face to face one day
Interesting stories! More insight into what it means to be a Game Warden. However, I did NOT like the story about the dog getting shot; obviously sad. And I guess he'd consider me a kook as well since I love all the paranormal stuff and would've happily joined with those ghost hunters! But it was funny that the other warden sent them to the neighboring county. I enjoy watching Lone Star Law, so this is a great addition. I look forward to reading his other books.
I am a big fan of the show Lonestar Law, and Benny Richards was always a favorite. His friendly personality comes through in every scene he's in. Even when he is faced with an awkward situation with a wrong doer, you can see him trying to hide a smile. This book showcases that personality. Each chapter contains a story, each of them interesting and sometimes entertaining. It is obvious that being a Texas Game Warden is an intriguing, serious, sometimes dangerous and very interesting job.
Dear Officer Benny, it was an absolute privilege to watch you on Discovery. Little did I know my first viewing was your last patrol. Thank you for protecting our Texas wild life, and for doing it with such honor and Texas Pride. From One TEXAN TO ANOTHER. Thank you for being "The Eyes Of Texas". God speed ! <3
If you've ever watched "Lone Star Law", then you probably recognize Benny Richards. "Tales of a Texas Game Warden" is a collection of stories drawn from his decades in the Warden's service. The stories are short, perfect if you only have a few minutes, and filled with Richards' humor and no-nonsense approach to life. I had a good time following Richards as he traveled back roads and lakes, seeking out evildoers to punish, animals to protect and victims to rescue. "Tales of a Texas Game Warden" is a fun, adventurous glimpse into a world that most of us never see, and it highlights the critical role Game Wardens play in protecting our natural resources and making sure our parks, wildlands, rivers and lakes are safe for everyone to enjoy.
We are big fans of the TV show Lone Star Law. Benny Richards was always one of our favorites to watch. This is a quick read but shows some of the variety of cases that game wardens run into in Texas. In the chapter Cold Hard Rain we actually know the other warden on the case. He grew up with our children. This is a great book to give as a gift to someone who loves the out of doors. We miss seeing Warden Richards on the show but wish him all the best in his retirement.
I love watching the show and Benny is one of my favorites. Even though he is retired, he still sneaks into an episode or two! Loved reading stories about Benny that weren't in the show.
This book is entertaining and an easy read. Could easily be read in a weekend. Why only 4-stars? It could have used some more stories to make the book longer. Regardless, it’s worth reading.
