My name is Danica James. I'm a cop with the Arcane Division.

A new demon lord has crossed the Rift, and says his queen wants her statue back, the one I took from the previous demon lord. Then he proposes a trade. You can’t trust demons. They lie, they cheat, they steal. They prey on humans. But unless I'm willing to walk away, it’s the only game in town.

The exciting conclusion to The Rift Chronicles trilogy.

I made silver and turquoise jewelry for almost a decade, ended up in nursing school, then took a master’s in business. Along the way I worked in construction, as a newspaper editor, a teacher, and somehow found a career working with computers.

As to my other interests, I love the outdoors, especially the Rocky Mountains. I’ve skied since high school, with one broken leg and one torn ACL to show for it. I’ve hiked and camped all my life. I love to travel, though I haven’t done enough of it. I’ve seen a lot of Russia and Mexico, not enough of England. Amsterdam is amazing, and the Romanian Alps are breathtaking. Lake Tahoe is a favorite, and someday I’d like to see Banff.

Usually when you get to the end of a series the read is great and wraps up the story nicely for all the characters. While “Soul Harvest” did wrap up the storyline for most of the the characters it was a bland, emotionally detached read.

I won’t bother to recap the storyline because the book synopsis takes care of it and really it isn’t something earth shattering. This book was mainly one explanation after another with a little dialogue thrown in for good measure. The relationships between the characters that formally made this series really good were barren and dry. The author would say things like “I met Aleks for dinner. The next morning I went to the station.” I was like what????? Where was the affection where was the interactions that made these characters real and kept me emotionally invested?

Additionally, I felt as though the whole read was being rushed in an effect to just get it over with. I can’t begin to tell you how disappointing it was. The good news is that it’s over. I’m just shocked the author who formerly grew on me with her wonderful and emotionally satisfying writing style let me down on this one. Oh well!

Yeah, I think this author is just not my cup of tea. Cool idea, coop world. But the execution is like reading a summary or report. The "fight" at the end lasts like half a page. There's no real character arc, or connection between characters. Like, I literally have not one iota of care for Aleks. I don't even know him. /shrug

And Dani is just woefully TSTL. I mean, she makes some really fucking terrible choices. It all works out for her, though. I don't think she's even injured. Plot armor +1000

One thing I’ve noticed with this author’s books is that the further I get into a series the less convincing I find them. It might be that as inconsistencies mount up they make it more difficult to suspend my disbelief, unfortunately the ‘world’ the author has created really didn’t make sense. Then there is the totally ridiculous body count.
I still quite liked Dani and the story had a decent flow to it, which made it easy to read. If possible I would have given 2.5 stars

2.5 Adequate stars
This was not the best book of the series but it succeeded in efficiently wrapping up the many plot threads. My one gripe was the character interactions lacked warmth making for an extremely dry read.

2023 bk 76. A middle book, not as strong as the first, but still kept me interested in what was going to happen next.

The other books were so much better. Why 2 stars? Let me tell you.

2️⃣⭐️Rushed ending ✔️
2️⃣⭐️Five different story plots going on at the same time and magically fixed within 200 pages ✔️✔️✔️
2️⃣⭐️Unresolved plot leftover from side plot concerning the poison ✔️✔️✔️✔️✔️✔️✔️
2️⃣⭐️Demon attack like they always have 100 years ending sorted overnight ✔️✔️✔️✔️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️
2️⃣⭐️ delusional outcomes: her “dead” father who went into the waste/demon realm where no one abd nothing sent in ever -EVER- returns magically to stop the war. He was returned to her alive after 20 years of living in the demon realm where humans are only food 🙄🙄🙄✔️✔️✔️✔️✔️✔️✔️

The Rift Chronicles Book 3

Really enjoyed the series, BF Kingsolver is an engaging writer. The concept of combining technology with magic is explored in this fantasy series. The actions of the characters are believable within the context of the world in which they reside. I hope she decides to add to the series with a volume 4!

Good

Danica has a new Demon Lord in town wanting something she has, there is still her evil aunt to be dealt with, and the battle between families might not be so active right now, but it’s still ongoing…

Ahhh, I love a good ending, and this third book in the trilogy provided it amply.
It’s not a standalone, make sure you’ve read the first two books before this one.

Danica is very busy, trying to deal with the demon threat. She gets some very powerful help from an unexpected quarter, and we learn a lot about her father and his abilities.
The stories are all wrapped up neatly, with resolutions for the unfinished storylines, and if there are still unanswered questions, it’s not because there wasn’t a resolution.

A thoroughly enjoyable finale to the trilogy, and the only issue is that it leaves the reader hoping for just a little more!
Recommended for those who love urban fantasy.

The war is over but Dani has puzzle’s galore to solve including a street drug poisoning its users; Susan Reed’s back and involved; rumors about the new demon king. A new church built by demons and vamps is not only illegal, it’s weird. But the most puzzling of all is being stopped on the street by a demon demanding an artifact Dani denies having. Though the magical council is still in the midst of a power struggle the demons have yet to have their say.

This one I'm going to have to put at a 3.5. Once again, this was a well written story. There was a lot of action, and a lot of excitement in the book, so I definitely enjoyed reading it.

If I had any complaint, it was that I couldn't get emotionally invested in the characters. I enjoyed Alecs as a romantic interest, but I was never excited to watch their relationship develop. I kind of wish there was more than 5 stars to rate a book. I enjoyed the book, but giving it 4 stars puts it on a level with some of my least favorite Kate Daniels story (the criteria I use to rate any story in a similar genre) and as much as I enjoyed the series, it wasn't up there with Kate.

That being said, I still really enjoyed reading the series. I liked Dani as a character, and enjoyed watching her thought processes and her reactions. I enjoyed watching her learn to work within the framework of the law as it is in her world, and she still reminded me of Eve Dallas in some ways. The action kept me interested and engaged in the story, and I wanted to see how it ended.

But she was definitely no Kate. And Aleks was far from being a Curran. I think that's the biggest problem I had with the series, is that I couldn't get emotionally invested in the books like I can my favorites. Especially the secondary characters.

I thought this final book in this trilogy wrapped everything up nicely, although some bits were over far too quickly.

In this one Danica James has far too much on her plate to deal with, what with a new demon lord in town demanding his statuette back, a new drug being used to poison huge amounts of people in one go courtesy of Susan Reed (Yes, she is back again!), Akiyama forces still being a challenge to say the least, a new strange cult making people disappear and finally Aunt Courtney still needs to be dealt with.

Dani constantly runs from one crime scene to the next or from one crisis to the next and to be honest, I have no idea how she managed to stay on her feet all this time. There were a couple of surprises, so not everything was as straight forward as I expected.

My only disappointment really was the ending with Courtney - I do think this could have been a stronger element of the story after all the attempts on Dani's life she had previously made. It just seemed to end too easily.

I enjoyed this book and the whole series and loved the idea of all the different magic users, their abilities and particularly the magitek idea. A fun, entertaining read overall and as it is the first series of this author's I have read, I will definitely be trying some of the other series now.

I enjoyed this series. It was a quick read for all three, wrapping it up in as many days.

My only gripe was some repetition in phrasing and explanation of things occurring when they had already been explained, sometimes in the previous chapter. However, thats likely because I read them so quickly that it felt like one long book. If you're taking breaks in between reading, then I don't think you would notice as much.

The world-building is great, story is enthralling and fast paced and the characters are believable. I like the focus on the story and less on the romance which is a nice change from most UF series. Don't get me wrong, the love story is still there but it's not front and centre. I'm sad that this story has wrapped up as I really liked Danica but it was a lovely ending and wrapped the story arc up nicely. I'm already looking into my next B.R. series!

Fun Ride

Well I hung in there and definitely enjoyed this series. It did seem like it got a bit repetitive. One complaint is when you’re cutting & pasting phrases & using them over & over. If our heroine “batted her eyes” one more time….🙄🔫 that got super annoying. But it was still a fun read & I feel like she wrapped up the trilogy ( if that is what she was aiming for) quite nicely. Not sure if I would read anymore about the same character. Maybe a new character set in the same world would be interesting.

Soul Harvest

Great read. I totally enjoyed this trilogy. Great characters, all developed nicely, all interacted nicely. Plenty of action with a nice dose of magic. Everything was wrapped up nicely. Very satisfied with how everything was finalized. BR Kingsolver had already made my ‘drop everything and start reading the new book’ list and definitely remains on the list with this book. Highly recommended.

Another fantastic series!

I always find books by BR Kingsolver to be engrossing with great world.building, believable characters who enlist your emotions and masterful storylines. I tend to put the rest of my life to the side from when I pick up one of her new releases until I finish reading the book. While I started reading her books in Kindle Unlimited, I have switched to buying all her books and ordering prereleases when I can.

My new author - I read the 1st and just kept going

I really enjoyed this series & am hoping there will be another book soon. This world was well developed, the magic was easy to visualize. Well written, I really enjoyed the way she built up the
characters and the plots. Living in Maryland, I had fun with the locations & was surprised at how many I not only knew but I have been to. Could totally visualize her world around Baltimore. Great book, series & author !

Enjoyable

I liked that all the elements of the plot came together because it there wàs quite a wide ranging angle to pull together. This affected some aspects like the love interest which seemed obligatory overall but the detail with regard to the tech overarched the storyline of the novels so I understood this was more important to the plot. I have enjoyed listening to these novels overall but other series have engaged me more.

I had a difficult time finishing this book. The characters seemed to get more powerful in each book. It got less and less interesting as the main characters could do things with powers not mentioned in previous books. There didn’t seem like there was anything a magiktech couldn’t do, particularly the mc’s father. At the end, the father pulls another box out that no one’s heard of and helps save the day.

A satisfying conclusion

BR Kingsolver has written a truly satisfying conclusion to he Rift Chronicles saga.
I loved the world that she built, and the strong and interesting characters who inhabited it. The heroine is powerful and moral without being unbelievable. I’m sad for the series to end, but glad with the excellent way I’m which the ending occurred.

Nice ending to a good series

I really enjoyed this series. B.K. Kingsolver has become an auto buy for me and so far has not disappointed. There is good world building and character development, likable but flawed good guys and nasty bad guys. Not your run of the mill witches, fae, and demons. I highly recommend it.

Another winner! Every book that I've read by this author has earned a 4 or a 5 ... & I think that I've read most of her books.

Great storyline? CHECK!
Great characters? CHECK!
Although you can read this as a standalone, it's best to read as the 3rd book in the series. (I'm going back and rereading the first two books right away ... & then I'll reread this one too!)
Enjoy!!!

Great addition to the series

It was great to get back to the world of Magitek. I had to reread the books but that definitely was not a hardship. All of my favorites are back and the action continues, but in a way that feels natural and not choppy. The pacing was perfect and I love the development of the characters. Definitely a 5 star book and I can't wait for the next one!

So books 1 & 2 came out within 2 months of each other and were both quite engaging to the story arc. This book was released 6 months later, in the time frame I have read a lot of other books, so I needed to go back and reread those before this book. So I read all 3 books back to back and this book felt rushed to just end the story and a HEA for the characters.

Lots of action

I have enjoyed this series so far, interesting world building. I feel like the emotional, personal connections are a bit lacking in this particular book. I'll still continue reading the series but the friendship and family moments were either missing or glossed over.

Ok, so, maybe I'm a teeny, tiny bit disappointed with the end of the series. It felt like it was a bit rushed, although, on the bright side, all the questions were answered and no stone was left unturned.

Still, overall, it's a series worth reading. Not the best work of this author, but it's still really good.

An excellent series.

This is a satisfactory conclusion to the demon wars, although I felt that the conclusion was a touch hasty and sorta perfunctory. Still, I have enjoyed the series and do recommend it.

Fantastic wrap up for the series

First off if you haven't read the first 2 books in the series stop right here and go read them. Soul Harvest is the conclusion to the War Song trilogy and it doesn't disappoint. Lots of action, magic, and a surprise character appearance.
