This was a decent read...until the end. I expected this to be an encapsulated prequel novella like they usually are, but it wasn't. I expected the ghost mystery to be solved at the end of this, but instead not only is the Emerald Cabin still haunted by a violent ghost, the rest of the ski resort is infested with ghosts as well.
The epilogue is about the ghost hunting team (this one is about a pair who contact the ghost hunters), and I got lost immediately because it was about people I had no frame of reference for. It also semi-spoiled (as much as you can spoil the romance arc but still, it's the principle of the thing) the plot of the first book? I thought this was a prequel, but it takes place after the first book. Very confusing, and not at all what prequels are usually.
Pining is a favorite of mine, even dual oblivious pining, but if they were always this blatant I'm not sure how they made it seven years without giving the game away. The ghost was scary. I'm a chicken so all ghosts are scary.
The unsolved ghost story plus the weird epilogue and strange timeline with the first novel dropped my rating. Otherwise, the book was pretty good and I'll be continuing the series.
