Welcome aboard Pacific Air Flight 385, with nonstop service from Seattle to Honolulu.
Cora is scared to fly again after her husband died in a recent helicopter crash in Pago Pago.
A thousand times she has told herself to turn around, not get on the flight, go back to her young children.
But now, she’s seated in first class across the aisle from the girlfriend of a famous billionaire pharmaceutical entrepreneur.
Halfway across the Pacific, the flight is hijacked. Six people are dead—including the pilots.
Cora is a young widow, mother, and emergency room nurse...but as the world closes in around her, she’s also a pilot’s daughter.
Lost off radar in the middle of the vast Pacific Ocean, the motive behind the hijacking remains a mystery. Not knowing who to trust, Cora works with the man seated beside her, Seattle Homicide Detective Kyle Adams, to save herself along with the remaining one hundred and fifty-four souls on board.
Audrey J. Cole is a USA TODAY bestselling thriller author. She resides in the Pacific Northwest with her husband and two children. Before writing full time, she worked as a neonatal intensive care nurse for eleven years. She’s also a pilot's daughter.
3.5⭐ Don't I love a good air disaster thriller? I wanted to read this since last year, but after reading two other books with similar themes, I wasn't ready for a third. I must admit that The Pilot's Daughter may be the best one in terms of fun, excitement, and edge of your seat among the three.
Boeing 737 Pacific Air flight 385 from Seattle to Honolulu is hijacked over the Pacific Ocean. Demands were made but they were totally unexpected. As passengers and crew members are introduced, I wasn't sure who I can really trust. I'm so into the second half that I google the cockpit layout to look for throttles and buttons as instructions for landing were given.😄
I think this novel is meant to be a quick summer read so you can't take some stuff too seriously (the ending!) and enjoy the ride flight. ✈️🌅
I am sure the airline industry is THRILLED that just when it’s customers are returning to the skies, we have not ONE but THREE flights getting hijacked this SUMMER!
So, which one should you book a seat on?
Well, I have read TWO out of the THREE, so far, and BOTH flights have been worth reading about! Action packed-but different enough from one another that you couldn’t possibly grow bored!
Pacific Air flight 385, a 737 from Seattle to Honolulu with 143 souls onboard has been hijacked.
Six people are dead including the pilots, and several flight attendants, the flight has no WI-FI, and the motive for the hi jacking remains a mystery.
When the only other person onboard, with flying experience becomes incapacitated, the passengers have to rely on a Pilot’s daughter, who has had some flying lessons, and a Seattle Homicide detective to save their lives.
And, they have veered so off course, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, that they cannot even be located on radar!
This thriller is FAST paced, and meticulously researched.
Author Audrey Cole, an RN and writer of six crime thrillers set in Seattle, gets the details of flying, and Inflight cabin procedures MOSTLY right, with just a few tweaks used to propel the plot forward and as a 25+ year flight attendant, myself...I know.
You may want to locate your life vest, and pay attention to your flight attendant’s safety briefing the next time you fly! 👩🏻✈️
You know, just in case!

Thank You for the gifted ARC provided through NetGalley …it was my pleasure to provide a candid review!
Get ready for takeoff and welcome aboard Pacific Air Flight 385!Going to Honolulu....
None of the 42 passengers could have predicted the turbulent flight that they were about to experience (myself included.) I'm sure I held my breath more than once!
This one takes off pretty fast and was quite addictive. I always wanted to pick it up and the characters were vivid and I had a soft spot for several of them. I was invested in their journey. I was entertained and couldn't have predicted the different paths this flight took me on.
There are a few different narratives going on and it really added layers to the overall story (more than just action). There are hi-jackers, two guns, no wi-fi, an interesting manifest, and a hunk of a detective who likes to read old revenge novels!!
I really enjoyed the ending!
Thanks to NG and the publisher for my review copy. OUT on June 22, 2021
In a vast sky of summer thrillers involving hijacked airplanes, this is a decent addition to set your sights on.
Cora is a young mother who is taking Pacific Air Flight # 385 from Seattle to Hawaii to honor her deceased husband’s anthropological work. Nervous to be on a plane, she finds herself seated next to a detective named Kyle.
Over halfway through the flight, it is evident that there are hijackers on board. They kill both of the pilots. The plane falls off radar, and there are some casualties...including some flight attendants.
Cora is the daughter of a pilot, and also a nurse. Given that she is the best chance they have to safely land the plane after their first choice is incapacitated , she ends up in the pilot’s seat.
Can she safely save the rest of the living souls on board?
This is a fast-paced thriller that flies with breakneck speed and rarely provides a chance to breathe between action-packed scenarios. I was hooked from the first page to the last, and managed to read this in a few hours.
It’s gripping and always entertaining, and would make one helluva motion picture.
While I couldn’t put it down, I felt it lacked character development. Yes, I wanted all the “good” guys to be safe, but I didn’t feel any kind of emotional punch for them.
On top of that, there is a hint of romance that evolves between two characters that seemed REALLY out of place given everything else going on. I just couldn’t buy into that...or the corny moments that were sprinkled in when tension was so high.
There were also FBI agents and attorneys who threatened people with the worst, only to be wholly wrong. I definitely had to suspend some disbelief near the conclusion.
BUT...was I entertained? Absolutely! Did I whip through this at lightning speed? Absolutely! Was I ever bored? Absolutely not!
I enjoyed this flight for what it was...and that’s blockbuster entertainment.
Thank you to Rainier Publishing and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review. The expected arrival date is 6/22/21...as long as there is no turbulence.
Airline disasters/hijackings are having a moment this summer and this one is a thriller with a side of romance.
Mid-way to Honolulu a flight is hijacked. The bullets fly, killing several people, including the pilots. Among the passengers is Cora, flying for the first time since her husband’s death in a helicopter crash, and Kyle, a homicide detective. And, of course, the hijackers. The short chapters and multiple POV from those both in the air and on the ground kept the pages turning.
Given the title, it’s no secret how this will end and what will be required of one of the passengers, the pilot’s daughter. Fast-paced and full of intrigue and action this is a prime example of a popcorn thriller. The reader doesn’t know who to trust or how all the backstories will come into play until the final thrilling chapters. Sure, some things are unlikely to happen, but you don’t read this type of book looking for realism. My other quibble was the romance that developed on the plane in the midst of the crisis. But if you’re looking for a thriller-light to devour at the beach or poolside, this would fit the bill nicely.

'The Pilot's Daughter' is without a doubt one of the best edge-of-your-seat thrillers I have had the privilege to read in quite a while. There's something about being on a plane with no pilots to speak of while cruising at 35,000 feet, and gunfire going on within the cabin by some unknown group of hijackers that absolutely fascinates me (lol). The characters were all supremely well-developed, and the plot was clearly well-researched (learned a ton of much appreciated information about the intricacies of flying commercial airliners and the extremely dangerous complexities of "ditching" and preparing for an alternate water landing). Audrey J. Cole did a fantastic job both educating and thrilling me throughout the entirety of this book. Looking forward to reading more of her work in the very near future. Even though this was free with Kindle Unlimited, I would have gladly paid to read this high octane page-turner.
Straight up, this is one of the BEST, most REALISTIC and satisfying, intense, edge-of -the-seat THRILLERS, I have ever had the privilege of listening to!
Pacific Air Flight 385, is a non-stop flight on it's way to Honolulu. The flight is hijacked, and multiple people are shot and killed, including two of the hijackers and both pilots. Are there more hijackers they need to discover - and early on, it's not clearly apparent who that might be. Who can they trust? How did guns get on board? Is one or more of the crew responsible? And why?? Political or personal agenda?
On this flight, there is an ER nurse (Cora) and a Homicide Detective, Kyle Adams. Their lives and the lives of each and every one on the plane hang in their hands. Cora is a Pilot's daughter and has been through simulator training twice with her dad, but has never flown a plane before. To make matters worse, the plane's occupants are put in a most likely certain death scenario because the plane's true coordinates were falsified, thereby, running the plane out of fuel. Oh, and that's not the only problem. There's more... much more but I can't risk a spoiler!
I was completely engrossed in this novel! The audio book experience is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for the most fantastic story telling ever in triple narrative by Marcio Catalano, Addison Barnes, Patrick Zeller. BRILLIANT! Seriously, it feels real - all of it, from cockpit, to radio communications with towers, to crew, to passengers! I can't say enough about the audiobook experience here! It enhances this novel many-fold.
I can't say enough about this thriller/light romance. It's phenomenal. 5 Glimmering Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Why can't I just like things? The beginning was exciting. The latter half was so ridiculous and dragged on way too long for such a short book. It read like a bad action movie that I would never watch voluntarily. I am clearly in the minority, again, but I don't understand the appeal here. Rounding up because I was intrigued enough in the first half to stick it out and see what happened.
Being stuck in an aluminium tube full of diseased, sneezing people at high altitude is bad enough.
Great story about a plane hijacking and associated angst at 30,000 feet plus a bit of ground-based angst that goes with plane hijackings.
The editing needs a little work. In one chapter, the plane depressurises and the O2 masks pop out and shortly after the "pilot" says, "Okay, we've dropped to 10,000ft so you don't need the masks." The very next chapter, they're back at 30 thou with instructions being sent for an emergency descent to 10 thou. Slight attempt at addling my noggin more than it already is. Other than that, writing is very fast-paced and engaging.
Great way to pass the time when it's STILL RAINING outside. (I'm thinking it's time to start building a frigging big boat and gathering in the world's animals.) Probably not good to read if you're taking a trip on a jet-propelled COVID spreader though.
I haven't been on an airplane in two years, and now when I'm planning to go somewhere, I had to read this turbulent tale of hijacking, murder, and mayhem? What was I thinking? I guess that I wanted a heart-pounding, tension-filled story to get me revved up, that's what, and that's just what I got!
Pacific Air Flight 385 takes off from Seattle to Hawaii with 143 souls on board who have no idea what is about to occur. Well, the three hijackers know.
Make sure you are wearing your seatbelt because you will get whiplash from this fast-paced, action-packed thriller. It's a fast read that will make your head spin.
From multiple viewpoints, this story is told from Cora, a young widow flying for the first time to honor her late husband's philanthropic work, to Kyle a capable homicide detective going to Hawaii to catch a culprit. The female airline cleaner risks everything to save her family in Somali and Mila, the flight attendant with flying skills who may have ties to the hijackers. And the spoiled billionaire's girlfriend, pregnant and flying to Hawaii, is she why the plane is being hijacked, or is it her boyfriend, the narcissistic billionaire who cares more about his company than anything else? These people all have interesting stories to tell, and I wish the book had been a little longer to learn more about them.
As soon as the hijacking ensues, a lot of shooting occurs on the plane resulting in the pilots' and the hijackers' deaths. Cora is a nurse, so she busies herself helping wounded passengers, and then they need someone to land the plane. It turns out her father was a pilot, and she also had some flight training, so off to the cockpit she goes. She is a handy girl to have around!
Have your life vest ready because you are going to need it! I initially thought I would give this book three stars, but because I couldn't put it down and because of the non-stop edge-of-your-seat action, especially towards the end, I gave it four stars. This flight was indeed a thrilling trip!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read it in exchange for an honest review. Be sure to book your seat on June 22, 2021.
Wow, the opening paragraph truly hooked me. This was such an amazing introduction to the story. I was hooked from the beginning so I had high hopes after the opening. It did NOT fail me.... go grab this one and read it now! Gripping, suspenseful and keeps you turning the pages to see what happens next! I loved it all. The ending though... kind of fell flat for me. Otherwise a decent read.
The Pilot's Daughter is yet another thriller set at 35,000 feet and is every bit as exciting and nail-biting as Falling (T. J Newman) and Hostage (Claire Mackintosh). Pacific Flight 385 has recently left the tarmac at Seattle airport in Washington heading to Honolulu, Hawaii but little do the 154 people aboard the express 737 service know, but a member of the cleaning crew - Asha Farar - has been forced to partake in the terrorist’s plans as they have her family held hostage back in Somalia and are threatening to kill them. In the video showing her family held at gunpoint in the small Somali village in which she grew up, Islamic militant group Al-Shabaab present her with an address in Seattle she must attend to pick up a package; it is to be placed on the plane in the compartment holding the automated external defibrillator and to show her they're deadly serious they shoot her uncle dead there and then. Terrified, she retrieves the pistol from the warehouse and hides it onboard. Back on the plane, it's halfway through the flight, which has gone relatively smoothly until now. It becomes evident that there are several hijackers onboard when they shoot dead both of the pilots, flight attendants and passengers. Six people are slain in cold blood and no one has any idea what the motive is for the hijacking. Those who are in charge and still alive believe there to be more terrorists posing as passengers on the flight to ensure their plan succeeds.
So knowing who to trust is a major problem and going off your gut is hardly the best idea when so many lives are at stake. The plane falls off the radar, there's no wi-fi and the bodies are piling up. First-class flight attendant, Mila Morina, who is an ex-military helicopter pilot, takes over the controls until she is grazed by a bullet. Cora is a recently widowed nurse and the daughter of a commercial pilot who is on her way to Samoa via Hawaii to receive a commendation awarded to her late husband for his humanitarian work during a devastating cyclone. She has flown via flight simulator numerous time although that is quite different to being in control of the real thing. Seated next to her is Kyle Adams, a Seattle Homicide detective on his way to apprehend a suspect. Can Cora, ably assisted by Kyle, land the plane safely and incapacitate any remaining threats onboard? This is a riveting, compulsive and exhilarating thriller full of action and extreme tension. From the get-go, you are plunged into the deep end and the high-octane, adrenaline-pumping game of cat and mouse the terrorists are playing. It felt incredibly real and the authenticity of flight procedures comes from Cole’s father being a retired Alaskan Airlines pilot. The suspenseful thrills, explosive twists and terrifying plot have you on edge the whole way through and guessing what was about to happen was futile as I simply couldn't guess correctly to save my life. Highly recommended.
Take a flight, put some people on it who have managed to smuggle on guns via a cleaner who had a terror group in Somalia sending videos of her family being murdered and more to come if she didn’t comply, add a billionaires girlfriend to the passenger list and you have a full on action thriller Then add a reluctant traveller, a Pilot’s daughter and you don’t need me to tell you where this is going And it goes there well The tenseness of the beginning chapter last’s right through to the epilogue and it’s one of those that are playing in your mind’s eye as it goes If you like disaster scenarios, with added oomph and surprises then you can’t not enjoy every page Written well and although tekkie info given re the plane it was explained so a novice reader could understand and follow it Thoroughly believable dialogue and scenarios and chillingly ‘I can just imagine’ bits where you think to when you have been on a plane Great read
If you are looking for a great summer read, try Audrey J. Cole’s The Pilot’s Daughter. It’s a thriller about Cora, who is afraid of flying after losing her husband in a helicopter crash. (I also would rather drive than fly any day!)
As the story continues, the flight is hijacked, and no one seems to know how or why this happened in today’s secure world. Cora is not sure who to trust with the 142 people on board, but she becomes the heroine.
It’s a fast read and would make a wonderful movie. Take time to read this exciting book this summer. I’m looking forward to the author’s new mystery thriller, The Final Hunt. Happy reading!

The story opens with a bang, almost literally. This suspense/romance novel takes the reader through many twists and turns to reach its conclusion. Cora is setting off for Samoa, leaving her young children for the first time since her husband dies in a helicopter crash. Kyle is a Seattle homicide detective on his way to capture a criminal who escaped to Hawaii. Many other characters appear in the novel and bring to life the different ways people act and react in a crisis.
Shawn Callon, author of The Diplomatic Spy, edited and published this review.
This was good, but not great in my opinion. It was a fast paced story about multiple hijackers that take over a plane. The story itself was going well until it came to the motive of the hijackers. I just didn’t feel that was a very sound motive for hijackers to take over a plane full of innocent civilians. I have read other books with similar plots, but I just didn’t like the motive and back story of this one.
The crash landing itself and details of that were very cool. All of the things that happened during that time were very interesting.
However, when the girlfriend of the billionaire finds out that he didn’t ruin his whole life to cave to terrorists’ demands and doesn’t even let him explain just turns against him? It started getting really far fetched to me and outrageous. Regardless of if he was in the right vs wrong, that plot point seemed a little outrageous.
Overall, I think this book had some really good parts, but I feel there are better books about this same topic.
Listened. Marcio Catalano, Addison Barnes and Patrick Zeller all sounded like robots. Honestly, I thought this was AI-narrated. Awful.
I now know a few more facts about what goes into piloting an airplane, like the names of some of those switches you see when you glance into the cockpit while boarding. Cool, that.
That Eddie was able to get his pharmaceutical research peer-reviewed and published in the amount of time it took for his friends to go home for a funeral was an astonishing feat.
That someone with a gunshot wound to their chest had the strength to choke someone almost to death also blew my mind.
This was a creative plot with all the makings of an excellent thriller. From the beginning, I was invested in learning how the plane would become hijacked, how the pilot's daughter would end up having to fly, and how the different, seemingly unrelated stories would come together. I appreciated the detail related to the inner workings of the plane, particularly those parts that happened in the cockpit.
Unfortunately, while the plot of the story has a lot of potential, the execution fell flat. The characters weren't believable. I wanted more of their back stories, more of their internal reflection, more of their motivation. Also, there wasn't any real thrill to this story. Even in the moments that should have been incredibly tense, there was no build up, no emotion.
The opening scene is a of a woman getting a video of her family being kidnapped and her uncle being murdered and then she's told she'll need to pick up a package and deliver it to a specific spot and if she doesn't, then her entire family will be murdered. Then her colleague says, basically, "hey we gotta go or we'll be late" and she's okay, puts her phone away and heads to work. There's no description of her f ace, her emotions, no thought process.
Plus, there's an unrealistic mix of purportedly tense moments with romantic tension, as though anyone who is working to survive a hijacking would be thinking about making out with someone they'd just met.
Mainly, I think it felt underdeveloped, almost as though an outline of plot events was written and then dialogue was filled in around it. It reminded me in some ways of a Hi-Lo reader for high schoolers who are struggling readers, where for simplicity's sake everything happens so quickly that it's sometimes hard to get engaged in the story. But if you're interested in a quick, low stakes read, this may be for you.
Readers interested in a plane based hijacking thriller would be better off with Noah Hawley's Before the Fall.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
The Pilot's Daughter by Audrey J. Cole is an adrenaline-fuelled rush from start to finish, and I devoured it in a single session. Clear a few uninterrupted hours, you will not want to stop once you board this flight.
Flight 385 is departing Seattle with nonstop service to Honolulu. Onboard are the usual mixed bag of passengers, including Cora, a single mother since her husband was killed in a helicopter crash, and Alana, the pregnant girlfriend of a major player in the pharmaceutical industry. Midway over the Pacific, the flight is hijacked, leaving the pilots dead. In the most dire of circumstances, it is up to Cora, a pilot's daughter, to muster her courage and strength to navigate the desperate souls onboard to a safe landing.
This book virtually propelled me through the pages. Just when I thought I could take a recuperative breath, we were off again, and my nerves continued to shred. I cannot wait to read more from this talented author. 4.5 stars
Many thanks to author Audrey J. Cole for providing me with an ARC to read and review.
4.5 STARS | This thriller was SO GOOD! Very ADDICTIVE and FAST-PACED, leaving me if I ever would go on a plane again after reading this! Cora is scared to fly again after her husband died in a recent helicopter crash. She tells herself to turn around, not get on the flight, and go back to her children. But now, she’s seated in first class on a flight to Honolulu from Seattle. Halfway across the Pacific, the plane is hijacked. Six people are dead, including the pilots. Cora is a widow, mother, and a nurse, but as the world closes in around her, she’s also a pilot’s daughter. Lost off radar in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, the motive behind the hijacking remains a mystery. Not knowing who to trust, Cora works with handsome Seattle Homicide Detective Kyle Adams, to save herself along with the rest fifty-four souls on board. A roller-coaster thrill ride that exceed your enjoyment and heart-pounding moments! A MUST-READ!
This was a quick paced book with action from end to end. A plane is hijacked but why? Terrorism, revenge, conspiracy, jealousy. The president enters into the players along with security, National defense, FBI. But loved ones at home also enter. The passengers, flight crew, and of course the high jackets. Who will land the plane? Who is at fault?
Oh my fluff! This insane fast-paced, heart-racing suspenseful thriller doesn't let up on the gas from start to finish. Just when you think things have MAY calmed down a bit and you can take a breath, nope! Nu-uh! You're back to gasping for breath. I don't know if I need a hug, a meditation session or a damn shot of vodka after this!
Pacific Air Flight 385 has just taken off and is on its way from Seattle to Honolulu. Over half way through the flight, the plane becomes high jacked by two terrorists. Seattle Homicide Detective Kyle is aboard the plane when it happens and manages to shoot both hijackers, but not before they murder the pilots. Mila, a flight attendant has some training and offers to fly the plane safely to Honolulu, while passenger Cora is a nurse and a pilot's daughter, she decides to check on everyone. Alana is another passenger on her way to see her sister and is the girlfriend to a billionaire pharmaceutical entrepreneur who just found out she's pregnant. When Mila becomes incapacitated, Cora has to take over to land the plane and save not only herself, but every soul left.
The insanity in this novel is unreal. I mean, I was literally gripping my phone like my life depended on it while reading! The ending was insane to make matters more fluffed up! You cannot let your guard down for a second with this one lovely's! I'm one satisfied reader. But I think I need a defib!
From now on, I will be clapping without reserve when my flights land safely, thanks Ms. Cole.
A solid read! The story didn't go the way I expected it to, which is all you ever want with a thriller, right? It's not a long book and it went down real smooth and easy.
You get a number of povs throughout the book, and it's less focused on Cora, the pilot's daughter, than the title might suggest, which I didn't mind because the story was engaging enough. There are a few thin points in the plot if you squint real hard, so maybe don't do that.
The ending is neat, villains get their comeuppance, and I always love when a fiction author makes the U.S. president a woman, because why tf wouldn't you. Brownie points for any extra bit of escapism I can get.
First I want everyone to know just how chuffed I am to be reading this book before its even published. Expected publication date: June 22nd 2021, make sure you get your hands on it cause it's a must read.
Synopsis: The book follows four Main character: Asha, Cora, Kyle, and Eddie.
Asha, an airline cleaner, and mother of two, receives an alarming video of her family in Somalia being held hostage by a jihadist group – she watches as one of the soldiers shoots and kills her uncle on video. They demand that she picks up a package at a disclosed location and plant it on an airplane at her workplace. Desperate to save the rest of her family, she goes through with the demands of the terrorists.
Cora, also a mother 2 is on her way to Hawaii- honolulu to honor her deceased husband’s work. Her husband died in a helicopter crash. On the way to the airport, Cora feels anxious about getting on a plane given what happened to her late husband, she feels bad about leaving her kids at home but also feels that her late husband deserves to be honored for all the good work he did while alive.
Kyle is a homicide detective in Seattle also on the flight to Hawaii. He is on a mission to apprehend a criminal on the run.
Eddie is a billionaire, pharmaceutical, business mogul who acquired his wealth through theft and fraud. His girlfriend, Alana is also on the flight to Hawaii. She is going to visit her sister who was just given birth to her niece.
Right of the bat it is survival of the fittest as the flight to Hawaii is hijacked. The passengers and flight attendants must fight for their lives when the plane is hijacked and later sinks in the Pacific Ocean. It is up to Cora and detective Kyle to figure out what caused the hijacking and who the hijackers are. Everyone is a suspect.
I thoroughly enjoyed this read. The book is gripping right from the start. I opened the book and next thing I knew I was done. I just couldn’t put it down.
The characters were well developed, and they all fit really well with the story. There was no character I felt was out of place. The man who sat behind Alana on the plane was very annoying, I found myself wanting to strangle him but he too was not out of place. In a group of more than 5 people there is bound to be one person who is annoying and cynical, now imagine on a place with +- 100 passengers.
I was also very impressed by how well researched the book was.
Points of reference: Pg. 52- Author explained why Detective Kyle was working alone. Homicide detectives always work in pairs. Throughout the book the author explained technical terms or pilot terms like the controls and what they were used for which made it easy to imagine the plane and Cora pulling the controls.
The author made it easy for me to put myself in that situation, fighting to get back home to my family.
One thing I took away from the book is to always trust my gut feeling- I feel like if Cora had listened to her gut, then she wouldn’t have found herself in that situation but then again without her, all those people would have died so I’m a little conflicted there.
I also could not -of the life of me- understand why Barry’s wife wouldn’t leave his side but then again, I am not married. I suppose I don’t know what it’s like to be married to someone for so long and then have to lose them like that. To imagine life without them and to feel that you’d rather die with them than live without them. Honestly, I don’t know if that was beautiful or sad. I get that they were both old but come on, surely there was something more to live for. Now let’s talk about Eddie - what a piece of crap! I honestly think he got off easy. He deserved for the whole world to know what he’d done; Mila didn’t deserve to die a terrorist. I felt the world deserved to at least know her side of the story.
I also felt that hijacking the plane was abit extreme, surely there were other opportunities to grab Alana? Hijacking an entire plane just didn’t seem to me to be the best possible way to get revenge. Especially after 9/11, one would think getting weapons onto a plane wouldn’t have been that easy, but it worked perfectly with the book and the story as It kept me on my feet. I kept waiting for plot twists.
And Asha, oh my word! If one could slap a character in a book she would be my first target. Ikept wanting to scream “ Tell someone”, “ go to the cops”… when she got home and found her husband in bed ,I swear I screamed “please tell your husband’’, ‘’say something’’. I understand she was shocked but what’s the point of having a partner, a significant other if you cant speak to them in times of need? There was absolutely no reason to have to deal with that alone. I’m glad she won the trial but at what cost?
This was such a great read. It came at a time when I was in a really terrible reading slump and it is just what I needed to pull myself out.
The Pilot's Daughter is told from multiple points of view and is told aboard Pacific Air Flight 385 nonstop from Seattle to Honolulu.
Once the passengers board the plane it is hijacked and this is where the action begins and it never lets up until the last page is read.
Among the passengers on board flight 385 are Kyle, Cora, Mila, and Alana. There are one hundred and forty-somethings souls on board Flight 385 altogether.
We get to see The Pilot's Daughter through the eyes of some of the characters.
Detective Kyle Adams is on his way to Honolulu to find and arrest a criminal.
Cora is a nurse and a mother of two. Cora almost didn’t board the plane as she was afraid of flying after her husband died in a helicopter crash.
Asha, a mother of two little girls receives a call from a man who has taken her family in Somalia hostage with a video of her father, mother, brother, aunt, uncle, and cousins. Asha is given instructions on picking up a package and where to take it. If she does not comply with their orders then they will kill her family and prove that they do just that they shoot her uncle on the video.
Eddie Clark also receives a call with a picture of his girl on board Flight 385 with instructions that he must follow or his girlfriend Alana will be killed.
When the hijackers try to take over the plane Kyle reacts quickly stopping the hijacks in their tracks. Lives are lost after the bullets start flying. Among the dead are the pilot and co-pilot leaving the plane with no one to land it or fly it. Hopefully, there is a pilot or at least someone that knows how to fly a plane among the passengers or they are all could potentially be doomed.
Kyle and Cora work together to try and figure out why someone wanted to hijack the plane and why. With a lot of answered questions and to be on the safe side they assume that there may be other hijackers on board and now everyone is a suspect. Kyle and Cora must work fast and quickly and stay on alert just in case there is another hijacker.
The Pilot's Daughter was so intense and I felt for each and every character as their story played out. I felt so bad for Asha as I was reading her part in the hijacking as her story brought tears to my eyes. I cried because I could tell she didn’t want to do what she was instructed to do but felt she had no choice.
I think The Pilot's Daughter is one of the best books I have read this year by far. I am still trying to process everything that happened aboard Flight 385. Audrey J. Cole is one amazing storyteller. Her stories make you feel as if you are a part of the story itself. She knows how to make the words on the page talk to you. She makes the story come alive right before your eyes. And you feel what the characters are feeling. You want to jump right in and help them.
I would love to see The Pilot's Daughter made into a movie as I think it would be a box-office hit.
I would like to recommend that you grab your copy of The Pilot's Daughter to begin reading this number one hit today!
