This was crazyyyyyy!!! I’ve heard so much buzz about Silver Coin that I put off reading it until the buzz cooled down a little. That was a stupid decision. If you didn’t know, Silver Coin is a new horror anthology series that is written by different authors but they all take place in the same world with the coin at the center of the story. This first issue follows a rock band in the 70s as they try to break into the music industry. Unfortunately, every one is deep into disco so the band never acquires a huge following until they find this silver coin. When they do things change for the better and for the worse. The story was haunting and creepy and should be a big hit amongst horror fans. I wasn’t sure what to expect but I’m glad I picked this one up. The artwork wasn’t my favorite BUT I like what was done with the coloring. Certain pages followed certain hues and it made for an interesting visual experience. The intensity of the artwork towards the climax of the climax of the story was WILD and worked perfectly with the narrative. Honestly, if you haven’t read Silver Coin I don’t know what you’re doing.

I usually don’t really get into one shots or anthology books but this was pretty good. Seems to be some eerie mystery behind this silver coin that brings tragedy to whoever uses it. Looking forward to the next story.

Burn baby, burn! Chip Zdarsky and Michael Walsh’s debut issue in the ongoing horror anthology “The Silver Coin” sets the stage for a whole new world filled with deep and unsettling terror!
The story kicks off in 1978, shortly after a struggling rock band discovers a magical coin that among other things, makes them play better. They become overnight sensations but soon learn that their newfound fame comes at a cost — one that must be paid in blood.
“The Silver Coin” is the Monkey’s Paw by another name: a cursed object passed down from generation to generation. Each issue, artist Michael Walsh teams with a different superstar writer who seeks to put their own unique spin on the legend. In this sense, it’s tough to predict what’s to come next. There’s no carryover as far as narrative or writing style is concerned. No indication of any kind of character continuity, either. Although I wouldn’t rule it out just yet.
Really, the true grounding force in the series is the outstanding artwork of Michael Walsh. His austere pencils and monochromatic colour scheme help to create the universe in which “The Silver Coin” inhabits. The aesthetic is dark, dingy — kind of like what you’d imagine Satan’s favourite dive bar to look like.
While I’m certainly said to see Zdarsky go, I’m perfectly content to let Michael Walsh take the reigns and allow his art to tell the story, as opposed to the words speaking for the art.

I was expecting a quick spooky comic and that’s exactly what I got!
I throughly enjoyed this one. We follow a rock band that is having a hard time getting followers because they refuse to preform disco music. Then the lead singer/guitarist finds a “magical” coin that his mother left behind and all hell breaks lose!
Zdarsky did a great job getting to the point of the story and keeping me engaged throughout the whole read. Oh and, the color scheme of this comic is enjoyable as well. I didn’t care too much for the actual illustrations though. I’m definitely going to continue reading this series, and I’m looking forward to continuing this series.

I have been in a real mood for horror and fairies of late. Not sure what is driving that but it is definitely reflected in what I'm gravitating towards in my reading. This issue explored and introduced the silver coin, which supposedly brings your wishes to fruition. It has hard to enjoy because the main character was a real dick, but maybe that is the point? Maybe we are all products of our behavior and the tools we have only accelerate (or decelerate) our eventual trajectory? I'm excited enough about the premise to keep going, especially given my current mood.

Особливо хочеться виділити кольори в коміксі. Цікава палітра кольорів.

The Silver Coin starts out with an intriguing story, putting a unique spin on a horror trope we've seen before. The phrase “be careful what you wish for” comes to mind as Ryan noticeably changes after finding the coin. He becomes harder and meaner, lashing out at his friends, like they don't understand his vision or what this means.

A great read by Chip Zdarsky.
A mediocre rock band starts getting nudged out of playing at their favorite bar as Disco starts getting big.
The lead guitarist discovered a weird old coin and suddenly, while using it to pick his guitar, finds that the coin is a sort of lucky charm.
I am really excited for the next issue, since the anthology style implies a new story involving the coin for each issue.

I'm a sucker for a good one-shot comic or anthology series, and this one about a luck-granting silver coin has me intrigued. Being a horror series, I know the coin's 'luck' comes with a dark twist. The premise is great, even if the latest issue was hit-or-miss. I've already grabbed a few more issues and I'm genuinely excited to see where the story goes next. With a little improvement, this is a trade I'd happily pick up.

What is the real cost of 15 mins of fame?
This was a great intro to the series, I'm glad they started with Zdarsky. A story about a musician who is close to making a break into the music industry. When he uses a sliver coin as a pick, things get a little hectic. This one was actually spooky and felt like a complete story. Its great as a one off, you really don't need the other issues.

I really liked how seemingly disconnected stories spanning centuries come together to deliver a great visual and reading experience.
This is a dark story with strong horror traits. It would agree that it's better left in the 16+ years group.
I also liked the illustration style. It was very pleasant and flowing.

It’s a fun piece of pulp horror, though not my genre. It’s not offering anything extra, which is perfect if you want some easy horror vibes but it’s not entirely for me.
A good comic, for me 20+ years ago, today, more for someone else.

This really reminds me of Jennifer Love Hewitt's Music Box. I really enjoyed it, but I've seen it before and I almost gave it 3 stars. However, the scenes where he's being physically torn apart we're gritty. And the ending in the club. That gets it a 4 star rating.

Totally digging the creepy factor to this comic!! The colors in the illustrations used give a rock and roll style mixed with a bit of eerie undertones. I can't wait to see what else this series has to offer. I enjoyed the flow of the story and the ending caught me off guard. Whew. Its gonna make me second guess any weird looking coin.
