A heartwarming romance about what it takes to bring a little holiday spirit to the grinchiest of skeptics—and how one small town with an abundance of Christmas magic can bring two people together.
Bah, humbug.
Christmas is not the most wonderful time of the year for Charley Dawson. After writing a column suggesting readers cancel Christmas, she’s sent on assignment to St. Nicholas, Colorado, home of the Scrooge Legend. The legend says that any “Scrooge” who enters the town will end up loving Christmas as much as Santa does. She’ll go, she’ll prove the myth wrong, she’ll have a fantastic new column. Easy as mincemeat pie.
Detective Jack Brody assumed the Scrooge Legend was just that—a legend. A free stay in the picturesque town seems too good to be true, so he heads to St. Nicholas to investigate. Once there, he finds a winter wonderland, a group of kind but suspiciously closemouthed townspeople…and his high school sweetheart, Charley. He’s more than happy to team up with her, especially when it might mean a second chance with the only woman he’s ever loved.
As Charley and Jack go dashing through the snow to find the truth, they rediscover all the reasons they were a great couple. Of course, in the town of St. Nicholas, Colorado, there are plenty of someone's little helpers to bring people together with comfort and joy when they need it most…
Ever since she can remember, Caitlin McKenna has always loved a good story. Naturally, she landed Hollywood where she embarked on an acting and screenwriting career.
Now she enjoys writing any story where love drives the narrative. Caitlin lives with her husband and two spoiled dachshunds in Southern California, and is working on her next novel.
Colorado Christmas Magic by Caitlin McKenna is a sweet, heartwarming, holiday story that takes place in the magical town of St. Nicholas, Colorado. Colorado Christmas Magic has a strong Hallmark Christmas Movie vibe, and I believe it’s a perfect story for a holiday movie.
Charley writes a blog for Authentic Lifestyles called the Cold Hard Truths. After she writes a blog post complaining about Christmas, she is mysteriously sent an invitation to visit S. Nicholas, Colorado for a one-week, all-expense-paid vacation just before Christmas. She is immediately wary of the invitation, but goes to St. Nicholas, and suspects the invitation is some kind of fraud that she is determined to uncover.
Detective Jack Brody is assigned to check out the Scrooge legend in St. Nicholas after a fellow detective comes back and is “changed” after his visit. His boss, wants him to find out what is going on in the town that has changed his fellow detective and his brother.
When Jack and Charley meet they are surprised as they were high school sweethearts back in Los Angeles. So, what a coincidence that they meet up in the magical town of St. Nicholas.
Colorado Christmas Magic was a fun, quick read, with an interesting plot, and some mystery. The town of St. Nicholas was just a bit too cutesy for me, but I did enjoy some of the characters in the town. I thought Jack and Charley has some good chemistry between them and was happy to root for them to get together. I received a complimentary copy of this book. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Ok, so you know Hallmark movies? Well this would fit right in. Especially as the most wonderful time of the year approaches. It is full of heart warming scenes.
It takes on the Scrooge idea. Charley who writes a blog has been called Scrooge by everyone. It is said that if you spend a week in St. Nicholas Colorado you will return a changed person and in love with Christmas as much as Santa. Well she meets up with her long ago love and remembers the importance of family, love and christmas.
Told you it's a hallmark movie. It's a fun read and gets you into the christmas spirit. Enjoy!
📚 Hello Book Friends! COLORADO CHRISTMAS MAGIC by Caitlin McKenna is truly delightful. This is the kind of read that revives your Christmas spirit and gives you all the great feels of the holidays. I love the story, the charming characters, and all the Christmas traditions. It is simply a heartwarming and magical read; perfect to put you in a festive mood.
This was a super cute second chance romance in a small Christmas town of St. Nicholas Colorado! This book made me want to go there just as a person who loves Christmas but the idea of trying to chance a Scrooges ways was so fun to read about! I love idea of Santa's mailbox and how the town itself works! So fun!
Charley hates Christmas and she blogs about it, she gets an invitation to St Nicholas, CO. St Nicholas is home to the "Scrooge" legend and it is reported that "Scrooges" are reformed there. She decides to go and investigate. Also going to St Nicholas is Jack. He is the One Who Got Away. Jack's (who also happens to be a detective) Captain's brother came back "changed." He suspects something nefarious is going on and is asked to investigate. I wasn't crazy about the Lisa storyline. Jack broke up with her right before he left for St Nicholas. She is just a plot point to further Charley's "change." And it doesn't say much about Jack the timing of the breakup. It was a bit cold. This was another clean Christmas romance. Kissing only. (Hopefully the next one I pick up will be more "fun").
Colorado Christmas Magic is a 'Hallmark' style romance. Caitlin McKenna writes a magical Christmas romance about second chances and the spirit of the season.
Charley is a column writer and is facing a bit of backlash after a Christmas post she made. She is not about the holidays and doesn't get it. So, it takes her by surprise when she receives an invitation to an all-paid trip to St. Nicholas, Colorado. But who sent it?
Jack is a detective who is assigned to visit B and B's in St. Nicholas, Colorado. A co-worker went previously and changed ever since. So, he is supposed to go there and see if there is anything suspicious.
Charley and Jack arrive in St. Nicholas and meet. They are shocked but excited. They were high school sweethearts but it didn't end well. The sparks are still there but Charley is cautious. This man broke her heart and left her without a proper goodbye and doesn't want that to happen again.
They are both there and end up working together to see if the legend of scrooge is true. The legend says that anyone who stays in St. Nicholas will end up loving Christmas. While Jack isn't a scrooge, Charley is. To see both of them find the magic of Christmas together is so pure and magical. I definitely think this could make a wonderful Hallmark movie.
I give Colorado Christmas Magic 4 stars. I think this is a great Christmas read. It's got hope, romance, and a captivating small town. For lovers of second chances and Christmas, this is a must-read!
Charley and Jack's story delivers just what you would expect from a Christmas romance in a very cute and fun way. Sweetness, emotion, humor, charm, drama, mystery and a sprinkle of holiday magic make a soft and comforting blend that is easy to let yourself get wrapped up in and be soothed by. A great read to help get you in the holiday mood and also a solid choice to help you unwind from all the holiday craziness. This is my volitional, forthright review.
This is a wonderful story about finding the love and meaning of Christmas. Charley Dawson writes a blog for Authentic Lifestyles called the Cold Hard Truths. Her last post was all about canceling Christmas and received a lot of negative comments. Her boss decides she needs some Christmas spirit and sends her on assignment to St. Nicholas, Colorado, home of the Scrooge Legend. The legend states that any Scrooge that enters the town will end up loving Christmas as much as Santa. Her purpose is to prove the legend to be false, but St. Nicholas and it's citizens have other ideas. Detective Jack Brody also assumes it is just a legend, but when he is awarded a free stay, he things someone is trying to scam people, so he and his boss agree to let him investigate. St. Nicholas is a winter wonderland, full of friendly people, but also close-mouthed about the legend. The other thing, or should I say person, he finds is Charley, his high school sweetheart he has never forgotten, Charley and Jack team up to prove the legend false.
COLORADO CHRISTMAS MAGIC by Caitlin McKenna is the kind of read that is full of Christmas spirit and gives you all the great feels of the holidays. I really enjoyed the story, with its charming setting, fun and sometimes quirky characters, and all the Christmas traditions. I really liked both Jack and Charley and enjoyed learning about their past as well as seeing them move forward and begin to build a possible future. This book definitely has a Hallmark Movie vibe with the cutesy town, the quirky characters and the romance. I will say there is a few other things going on in some parallel storylines that pull on the heartstrings. Colorado Christmas Magic was a fun, quick read, with an interesting plot, and some mystery. It is a heartwarming and magical read; perfect to put you in a festive mood. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book upon request. The rating and opinions share are my own.
What a happy, fun book to start the holiday season with! It was just like reading a Christmas-y hug and I loved every minute of it. I liked Charley, she started as the Scrooge and not liking Christmas because she had been dumped several times right around Christmas. She gets invited to St Nicholas, Colorado after writing a scathing blog post telling everyone to just skip Christmas. As the Cold Heart Facts Queen, she wants to debunk the Scrooge Legend where everyone who goes to St Nicholas comes back with their Christmas spirit back in place. If you know A Christmas Carol, you proabably already know how this is going to end. I also really liked Jack. Jack is Charley's high school sweetheart, the one that got away. He is now a detective in Denver and is sent to St Nicholas to try to figure out why several people have come back from there so changed and happy. So essentially, he is also sent there to debunk the Scrooge Legend. He obviously meets up with Charley, but is it fate, coincidence, or the magic of St Nicholas? Jack and Charley had really great chemisty and I loved watching their new story unfold. I really loved the stories of Charley and Jack's reunion after so many years and so many heartbreaks and always having it implied that their meetup was the magic of the town. This book really made me want to live in St Nicholas. But Charley and Jack's story wasn't the only one. Jack became a detective to try to find his uncle who went missing when he was 10. I loved how this storyline also came into play in the book. Overall, this was just like a Hallmark movie and such a great holiday read!
Charley is not a fan of Christmas. She is a writer and in her last column, she wrote about canceling Christmas. As expected, the readers didn't take that well. :)
Then she is sent on assignment to St. Nicholas in Colorado. The place is thought of as magical and the home of the scrooge legend. She doesn't think much of it, but some things about that place don't add up. She sets out to investigate, with detective Jack Brody.
Jack is sent to the town to investigate it. People come out of it transformed and reformed. He is determined to get to the bottom of it. The town is picturesque, and the people there are good and inviting. It all seems too good with help of Charley, they get to investigate.
As they spend more time together, they are reminded of the feelings that they use to have for each other and discover the magic of the town... :)
It's just the sweetest, most magical Christmas story! Highly recommend it! It would also make an awesome movie. :)
Thank you NetGalley, Caitlin McKenna and HARLEQUIN - Carina Press for the ARC of Colorado Christmas Magic. This is my personal review. I love the title of this book. It put a smile on my face as soon as I read the title. Charley Dawson looks at Christmas in a completely different way than other- the holiday has not been good to her but instead she tries to convince her readers by writing a column to cancel Christmas. This prompted her boss to send her to St. Nicholas Colorado to find out if the legend about this town is true. The legend says anyone who enters the town ends up falling in love with the holiday. Detective Jack Brody himself is curious about this same legend so he heads there to find out the truth after his boss decides Jack need to find out if the legend is true. The truth has to be out there, and this is the only way for them to discover it. Jack and Charley are both in town and meet each other there. They were sweethearts in high school and had not seen each other for years. This story is a fun easy sweet romance that will put a smile on your face as you read like did for me.
This book was full of Christmas spirit and this book had a mystery going on. This story takes place in a town in Colorado called St. Nicholas.
This book revolves around a woman named Charley Dawson. She writes a column/blog in which she tells her readers to cancel Christmas. She has had bad luck around the Christmas holidays with boyfriends.
Her boss sends her on assignment to St. Nicholas which is home to the “Scrooge legend@. Any Scrooge who enters the town will end up loving Christmas as much as Santa Claus 🎅. She goes there wanting to prove the legend wrong. In the story you also meet Detective Jack Brody also assumed that the Scrooge legend is just that…..a legend. He heads to St. Nicholas to investigate. Once there he finds a Wintery landscape and he meets the townspeople. He also meets his high school sweetheart Charley. They end up teeming up to debunk the Scrooge legend. It also means a second chance with the woman that he has loved. Jack also finds that his missing uncle might be in St. Nicholas. This was a fun read and it felt like you were watching a Hallmark Christmas movie. It wasn’t a spicy 🌶️ read but it was interesting. I enjoyed reading it.
Have you ever felt like the holidays were just too much? Have you ever been hurt by past tragedies or events at the holidays and so they scar or color the holidays differently for you?
If yes to either of the above questions you have to read this book. Charley has been called a “Scrooge” by everyone who reads her blog and her co-workers. “Magically” she is given a week in St. Nicholas, Colorado to take on the Scrooge Legend. The legend says that anyone who goes to St. Nicholas, Colorado and stays for a week “complementary” will leave changed and will love Christmas as much as Santa.
When Charley gets into town, within a few hours, her long lost high school love Jack is there and they start to pick up where they left off. Over the course of the week they realize the importance of love, family and the joy of the Christmas holiday.
Overall a good read, a little slow moving but very heartwarming.
Thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin’s Carina Press for giving me the opportunity to review this book in exchange for my honest review.
Charley has just been invited to St. Nicholas to try and debunk the Scrooge Legend the town is best known for. After being dumped by her fiancé and dealing with the comments from her latest bah humbug blog post, she is bound and determined to show everyone once and for all, Christmas spirit is a hoax. But when things start spiraling out of her control the moment she arrives, and her past greets her with a smile, she begins to rethink her Christmas thinking. Maybe there is something to this place after all.
Such a sweet, beautifully written story by a new to me author. COLORADO CHRISTMAS MAGIC is not something I have been normally reading lately, but now that I have, I want it all. I am even already thinking about how to decorate for Christmas and it’s only the first of October!! But I cannot wait to see what else this author has in store for me. And I can guarantee she will make you a believer after all is said and done with this magical, Christmas romance. 5 Stars!
I cannot rave about this book enough. I wish there were more than two books. But this one is coziest. Two Scrooges come to St. Nicholas, Colorado to disprove the legend that any scrooge will be full of the Christmas spirit after a week in the town. This was refreshing and sweet and even a little mysterious. Who sent out the letters to Charley, inviting her to the town? What will Jack discover when he tries to disprove the magic of the town? Will Charley and Jack get together? It's very Hallmark in the absolute best way. This will be a reread every holiday season. I guarantee it. And Hallmark? If you're looking for ideas ....hint hint...
Colorado Christmas Magic is just that, magical. We have a second-chance romance, a family mystery, and a lot of heartwarming good times. I like how this book mixes romance and mystery. Charley and Jack team up to debunk the legend of this town and it just makes the book fun.
There was a subplot with Jack and an ex-girlfriend that I didn't think was necessary drama. While I understand why it's there, it just didn't jive with me, but this may just be a me thing.
Again, a heartwarming story full of magical surprises.
Magical Christmas romance. Quirky, cozy Christmas romance. What else do you need in a good book? Pretty much Colorado Christmas Magic is a feel good, heartwarming story you should read. Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest opinion. All opinions expressed are my own.
This time of year I love reading books that put me in the Christmas spirit. Most are predictable but still fun to read. This story was a little predictable but was definitely my favorite read so far this season. I love the magic of the little town of St Nicholas and the heart warming stories that come from the Scrooge legend.
I finished this pretty much in one setting. It was very cute, very cozy.
NY favorite part about this read was the aspect that simply writing out a wish or a name of a person can almost instantly change the course of your life. You find family. Or lost soul mate.
It was a really simple read and I 10000000% recommend it.

I received an advance copy of, Colorado Christmas Magic, by Caitlin McKenna. Charley is a bit of a scrooge, she is sent to a small Colorado town, St. Nicholas home of the Scrooge legend. Also in town, is her ex Jack. Will this be Charleys best Christmas?
A delightful and heartwarming Christmas romance that made me smile and root for the characters. The setting is delightful, the atmosphere is festive, and the characters are likable and fleshed out. Recommended. Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine
Colorado Christmas Magic is a sweet, heartwarming holiday romance that takes place in the magical town of St. Nicholas, Colorado. A story that has a strong Hallmark Christmas Movie vibe and reads like a movie. I believe it’s a perfect story for a holiday movie.
This is a gem. I love the magical quality of this book. It's not over the top, it's like a sprinkle on a sundae. The romance is cute and I live the little nuances. I really hope this is a start of a series, I love the B & B couple and hope to visit them again.
