Echo of Roses

Was she ready to explore the heart of a warrior?

Welcome to book 1 in the exciting new series, Echoes in Time, from New York Times Best Selling author Paula Quinn.

After receiving a dragon brooch from a distant great aunt, twenty-first century historian Kestrel Lancaster finds herself in fifteenth century England. Smack in the middle of a war. Like…in the middle of a blood and guts spewing, heads flying around her war. With six armored men riding toward her, bloody swords raised high in the air, horrified looks on their faces, there isn’t time to think. Only to scream. But like a dream, a dark knight rides into the fray and saves her from them all. When she realizes where and when she is, she doesn’t know whether to thank him for keeping her alive or curse him for it.

Sir Nicholas de Marre has seen many things in his years as military commander for the House of York, but he has never seen a woman appear right before his eyes—and in the middle of the battlefield. Without thinking, he kills the Lancaster bastards closing in on her. Thankfully, for her, he is able to fight with her deafening screams behind him. He saves her from certain death, not knowing if she is mad, or he is, and carries her to safety.

That’s his first mistake. The second is showing her mercy when he finds out she’s a Lancaster. But this odd woman who takes pictures with imaginary phones and teaches Cook to make cupcakes is easy to fall for, and before long, the heart of York’s champion is captured by a Lancaster.

England’s throne is about to change. The House of Tudor will reign, and the War of the Roses will finally be won with the intimacy of a kiss, the tenderness in a touch, and love that will echo through time.

Time travel....imagine the possibilities! With true historical events mixed in with her own imagination, Paula Quinn brings us a truly magical first story in her brand new series, Echoes in Time. I love this author's way of writing, she brings everything to life with her wonderful characters.

Echo of Roses is the first book in this new series and it's Nicholas and Kestrel's story. A mysterious brooch, finding herself in the fifteenth century, in the middle of the War of Roses, Kestrel's life is turned completely upside down. When Nicholas saves her in the middle of a battlefield, he's quite attracted to this strange woman but secrets and what looks like witchery will make their relationship quite an interesting one! As they both struggle to adjust and the future is in danger of being changed, a true love is forged and fought for.

I now look forward to the next books in this series, Paula Quinn has really whetted my appetite for more!!

I received an ARC of this book via NetGalley and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Really enjoyable read from beginning to end.

It’s was lovely reading about Nicholas and Kestrel, they fit together so well. From totally different times, backgrounds and upbringings but they had an amazing chemistry.
Their love grew steadily and the storyline was emotionally charged and satisfying.

If you like reading about the War of the Roses this may be right up your street.

Very good to see this new series from Paula and can’t wait for the next book in this series to hit my kindle. After all there are so many secrets yet to be unearthed in these tales.

I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to post this review

I am intrigued by time travel stories and always wonder where I would love to land. Hard choice to make and of course how would it happen?

Our heroine landed in 1485 England when rubbing an ancient cameo she was given. Right in the middle of battle, and she was saved by a knight in full armour battling an enemy! What are the chances?

He of course could not believe a woman just appeared before his eyes in the middle of battle. Seeing she was about to meet her death and then fainted, he grabbed her and threw her over his noble war horse and fled to he fortress.

Sound interesting? Oh yes and as Paula Quinn begins a new series, one can only hope the next will come out soon!

I was so excited to read this book, I love time travel, but it fell super flat.

Here is what I loved about the story: the hero, Nicholas was just grumpy wonderful, the side characters helped to bring the story to life, the whole undercurrent story about why and how this happened was amazing. I will give this series another shot because the overall arc of the series is an outstanding idea and I want this to work. The history mixed in was great fun, and as stated above, I loved the side characters so much. They were the crown jewels of the story.

Here is what I didn't like... the heroine, Kestrel was just all over the place. She is a "historian" who gives great details about the future, does Nicholas really need to know about a selfie and go around pretending to take them, I think not. I felt as a "historian" she should have worked to blend in a little more instead of going against everything logical to do. The characters even keep telling her to not say so much because people might think she is a witch, doesn't stop her at all.

This book is definitely for those who enjoy the idea of time travel mixed with history, action and of course love. This author does a good job of explaining how the main characters view each other and their reactions based on their respective time periods. If you love the idea of time travel and the days of King Arthur this book is enchanting. Reviewed by Jeanna

Having read a number of this author's books in the past, I was excited to receive a copy of this novel. I loved the concept of a sassy, street-wise New York girl landing in the middle of a battlefield during the War of the Roses, an era that I have always been interested in. I also loved the cover of this book. Whilst time travel is not my favorite trope, I have read a few that have captured my attention and were entirely believable. In this situation, however, I battled to get into the book and had to adjust my thinking around the plot from serious historical to light-hearted comedy. When I eventually hit on comedy, I found it easier to appreciate the book and the characters. Kestrel is a thoroughly modern girl, independent and self-sufficient. Landing as she does in the middle of a battlefield with sword-drawn soldiers bearing down on her, sends her into a panic. Just when she thought she would never see the light of day again, she is rescued by a knight who obliterates her attackers. Sir Nicholas de Marre has seen more than his fair share of war. He has also suffered through the loss of his family and is serving a king for whom he has little respect. The strangely dressed young woman who defies convention intrigues him and despite his skepticism, he tries to help her with her quest. When given the opportunity to return home to her father and those she loves, Kestrel has to make a choice, knowing that ultimately, someone will suffer because of it. I received a copy of this romance through Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.

Kestrel Lancaster after a mysterious meeting and a an inheritance she knows nothing about finds herself transported not only to medieval England but she has landed in the middle of a battle field. As men with swords raised ready to kill her a knight on a steed swoops in and saves her from certain death.

Sir Nicholas de Marre can’t believe his eyes when a woman suddenly appears in the middle of a battle. The enemy is ready to strike her down when he slays the men that were going to kill her. As he takes her to safety she is dressed strangely and speaks words he cannot understand. As the ungrateful woman demands he release her he leaves her as she demands. Unable to get the strange women off his mind Nicholas returns to help her.

Kestrel cant believe this is happening to her. When the knight returns and promises to help her she knows she can trust him and is also drawn to him. When he explains to her that he is the commander for the house of York and is fighting against the Lancaster’s that killed his family, Kestrel must hide her identity afraid of what the knight would do if he found out who she truly is.

I loved this story! So well written that I could believe! I fell in love with Kestrel and Nicholas. I have always loved time travel books and this one was no exception! I could not put this book down! I definitely recommend reading this book!

Something jarring about the main character being a historian, but the book itself being so historically inaccurate. I get it, it's a bit of humour but the way everyone talked...And the icing on the cupcake...was the icing on the cupcake! Sugar wasn't something they just had sitting around in the pantry. They might have if they were extremely wealthy, but even then sugar at this time period was way way way more expensive than gold, and to just throw in a random "we made cupcakes with frosting for the whole table just for the heck of it." Seriously...why!?

I really don't like when I DNF a book. Unfortunately that's what happened with this one. I can't put my finger on why exactly so I'm putting it into the it's not you Book, it's me. I started it a few weeks ago and had no trouble putting it down to read another book, going back to this one, putting it down and so on. I tried again today and there's just no connection to the characters - for me. So I decided we can't bond and I'm not trying any longer. I hope others try this and it works for them.

Time Travel to the Highlands would be Sensational! Men in Kilts and they have Abs of Steel. Granted the women are usually treated coarsely unless you get a man who is not all macho.
The other downside is the living conditions and the health is not all that up to par. I would hope to have a bunch of antibiotics on me if I were to be dragged into a portal!
Kestrel Lancaster had nothing on her except the clothes she was wearing. The other bad thing about time travel they can’t really pinpoint exactly where you will land. Kestrel landed in the middle of a battle and she was on the enemy’s side! Oops she was not about to reveal her last name to Sir Nicholas de Marre who made it a point to say how much he hated the Lancaster Clan.

Paula Quinn writes good books, but this is definitely an exceptional book! The characters are polished and the storyline flows from beginning to end.
This book for me was unequivocally Unputdownable! I never put it down from the time I started it from the beginning to the very end!

I without a doubt recommend this book to everyone looking for a incredible read.

I received a free advanced copy from NetGalley and these are my willingly given thoughts and opinions.

The War Of The Roses brings conflicting emotions to Nicolas Scarborough, Marquess of Pennington. In the heat of battle against the Reds, a woman appears in strange clothing. Nicholas fights them off to save her. This is no ordinary woman. With the rub of a brooch, Kestral traveled through time from 2019 to 1485, before the battle of Bosworth. Nicholas fights for King Richard III because the Lancasters killed his family, but he hates the king for his cruelty and deceit. Kestral is a Lancaster and must keep her last name secret. To be labeled a traitor and a witch would see her burned at the stake. In the battle for king between Richard III and Henry VII, Nicholas could die fighting for Richard, Kestral uses every weapon she has to save his life. For her, finding the man you love is once in a lifetime. Even though I have questions about a couple of discrepancies, I loved Nicholas and Kestrals love story so much I went ahead and gave it 5 STARS.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

Echo of Roses by Paula Quinn is a sexy and adventurous romance that makes you long for a perfect knight to come sweep you off your feet! The War of the Roses is at its climax when a Lancaster finds herself in another time and in the safe keeping of the enemy side. Even though she is not from this era Kestrel Lancaster knows if the knight who saved her ever learns her true last name he will be honor bound to hate her. Nicholas de Marre, Earl of Scarborough, has supported the House of York, the white roses, his entire life — ever since the Lancaster’s ruined his life by killing his entire family. What will he do when he finds himself under the spell of and falling in love with a woman who stands for everything he hates?

This story is a fun read that keeps you intrigued from cover to cover and I recommend it to all who enjoy a medieval romance with a little paranormal twist.

Kestrel Lancaster is a modern woman from 2019. She lives in New York and has just sworn off men when her last boyfriend is a jerk and he cheated on her. I was enchanted by the plot of the story, King Arthur and his knights, a brooch, and time travel. Interesting combination I loved it.
Nicholas de Marre was a fierce fighter and a white rose in the Battle of the Roses. The white rose represents the House of York and the red rose the House of Lancaster. During the War of the Roses, this designated the two warring houses for the crown of England. King Richard III had been the king for two years and was being challenged for it. The contender is Henry Tudor. During this time there were a lot of wars, Nicholas was always away from home and fighting somewhere in England. He had little time for family or women.
The historical knowledge the author had made the tale so much more interesting. To see him trying to imagine what it would be like in Kestrel time. It was very hard for him. The characters were exciting and warm-hearted. Elia tried to take care of Nicholas and became fast friends with Kestrel. There were a lot of twists and turns, plenty of battles, and she feared the lack of medical care. The description of their surroundings such as the beautiful waterfall enchanted you. I can't wait to read the next book. It was such a good book.
I received this ARC from Net Galley and voluntarily reviewed this Novel.

Oh how I wish I could Time Travel.

This was such a fun and exciting visionary read. Paula Quinn once again you have captured my heart with your stories. To boot, this story has a mystery behind the plot, a mystery that only King Arthur Pendragon knows. Maybe Paula will give us a story on him in the future.

The characters were dynamic, Kestrel was a lot of fun - feisty with her talk backs, I love how the big city girl adapted to the era of the War of the Roses. Culture shock changed quickly as she fell in love with the people around her.

Nicholas was an absolute dream. Everything you’d want in an honorable man. A true loyal soldier. I found the characters to all be well developed with their backgrounds of past experiences which to me made the story even more emotional regarding family and enemies.

I like the fact that even the staff in the castle had a story behind them, how as a clan they stood together and fought for truth and love.

I could of literally lived in this story. I totally wanted more. I look forward to the next installment. Who knows, maybe we’ll find out if Elia finds her true love when she meets Kes father. Wonder who will get the Brooch next? Will King Arthur’s knights always be there watching and escorting through time travel? Will King Arthur go meet up with his daughter and meet his grandchild? Oh so many questions!

Totally addictive!

Sir Nicholas de Marre and his family has always been fighting for the House of York, even though he doesn’t always in King Richard’s decisions. One day in the middle of a battle for his life he unexpectedly finds a young woman who drops from the sky out of nowhere. He rushes to save her life. The last thing historian Kestrel Lancaster remembers is being in New York City 2021 staring an ancestor’s brooch and poof she in the fifteenth century. She know there’s a reason she been transported back in time, she can appreciate the handsome rugged medieval knight who hates the Lancaster family who destroyed his family. A captivating story as Kestrel and Nicholas come to terms with here time travel, his feeling for the York and Lancaster families, finding a way to return her home, but will they be able to fight the fierce attraction starting to grow between them? I love the attraction, history and adventure between them its make an excellent story I’m voluntarily reviewing.

I am sure all of us have dreamed of time traveling at some point. Paula Quinn did an amazing job with this story. Didn't expect to have the h drop into the middle of a battle in the fifteenth century. Just one way to highlight the many changes between the 21st century and the 15th.
I loved Nicholas's strength of character that he could work through all of Kestrel's odd and unusual 21st century behaviors and slang. As a historian, Kestrel was definitely in her element.
This time/travel romance will draw you in and keep you reading until the very end. There are some great supporting characters as well. The story has danger, lots of excitement, and an unexpected surprise or two. I highly recommend it for your reading enjoyment. I can't wait for the next book in the series and to find out what happens with the brooch.

After inheriting a broach, Kestrel Lancaster suddenly finds herself in the middle of a battlefield five hundred years in the past. As a historian she knows a lot about what is about to happen,  but she doesn't want to risk being called a witch.

Sir Nicholas de Marre is a military commander for the House of York.  The last thing he expects to see is a terrified young woman in the middle of a battle. Our hero is a fearsome warrior who never loses a battle.

This is a fabulous time-travel romance.  There is a lot of excitement, danger and light-hearted moments.  All the characters are so interesting they will grab your attention from the start.  As this is the first book in a series I'm hoping to meet some of them again.

Magical fun.

Great time travel story with an Arthurian twist. Kestrel is a 21st-century woman living in new york when she is contacted by a law firm about an inheritance. And in comes the twist, she is given a brooch and taking back in time right in the middle of a battle where she is saved by our broody hero, Nicholas.
The book is set during the 1400's War of the Roses between house York and Lancaster. So, we see characters from that famous historical period. If you are a history fan like me, you will love it. I loved that it had the Arthurian twist to it and that we also see those characters.

Love it and looking forward to the next book.

ARC from NetGalley

Echo of Roses was an enjoyable fantasy romance. We have Kestrel who is from modern-day NYC who is brought back in time to meet Nicholas in 1485 England. I tend to enjoy the staid proper lord from patriarchal such-and-such who has his gruff barriers broken down by a speaks-her-mind modern woman trope, so I did enjoy this book. The romance was believable. There was no instalove. It actually had an engaging plot. I liked the twist with Arthur. It was a good fast read, and I would recommend it for people who enjoy this genre.

Ignoring the historical “inaccuracy” (since it's fiction anyways) as well as modern speech spoken by characters belonging to the fifteenth century (thankfully), the premise of PQ’s Echo of Roses starts out great. The characters are likable too - one, a twenty-first century historian and another, an Earl but the plot itself is embroiled in political drama and power struggle. If you're not into that, rather crave for comedic relief in between the pages then reading this would be a tad bit taxing.

Paula Quinn has outdone herself with her new book "Echo of Roses." Nicholas is to die for. So male. Makes me want to go myself. She intertwines lives and history with a fine touch of intrigue and love. I am reading it again for the third time. A MUST READ by a very exceptional writer!

EXCELLENT!

I couldn’t put this book down. The story moves along smoothly and Ms. Quinn has fleshed out her characters very well. Several books I’ve read from other authors become lost in the middle and aren’t sure which way to go. But with Ms. Quinn it never lags and she is spot on. I’m going to try some of her other books she’s written and can’t wait for Book #2 in her series “Echoes in Time.”

I did enjoy this even though it was historically inaccurate but was set in an area of England familiar to me which helped me to enjoy the story more as I knew these places! So to stop my teeth from grinding every time I read something which didn’t actually happen in The Wars of the Roses, I’m going to pretend that when Kes went back, it was an alternate timeline 😆😆
