With this powerful body transformation program, men and women discover how to kick their metabolism into high gear—and replace flab with lean, fat-burning muscle . . . in just 8 weeks
Revving up the body so that it optimizes nutrition and turns flab into lean body mass can be accomplished easily and quickly—and at any age, even after the body's metabolism has supposedly slowed down. That's what sought-after fitness trainer and nutrition expert John Berardi demonstrates in this new book.
Drawing on the best scientific research, including his own ongoing studies, Berardi has developed a supremely effective plan that enables his clients—who include athletes, models, and ordinary men and women of different fitness levels—to stoke their metabolic fires, burn more calories, build lean muscle, and improve their health, too! This unique three-pronged program includes:
• the Nutrition Plan, which provides recipes and meal plans that offer readers the foods that will teach their bodies to burn fat for fuel
• the Exercise Plan, which combines interval exercise and strength training to enable readers to burn more calories not only while they are working out but also after exercise
• the Supplement Plan, which identifies the essential compounds that kick the metabolism into high gear and improve general well-being
This is Precision Nutrition's program in a nutshell! I'm a little surprised that not many have figured out that we can check out John Berardi's method from the public library and save some serious cash. I've already spent the cash and have been doing the program for two years, but I'm still finding the book useful, particularly the discussions about acid/alkaline foods and whey & casein.
Of course, the "rules" are slightly different, but the plan still comes down to eating whole foods, eating lots of protein & veggies, limiting carbs to 3 hours after a workout, and exercising 6 times a week (3 weights, 3 intervals). Plan for 90% compliance, not perfection. The plan also reviews the habits that you need to achieve benefits.
There's a workout plan (with suggestions about what to do after 8 weeks) and recipes. Like most Rodale books, there aren't many cites in the book, for someone who needs their reference materials.
Pretty good scientific breakdown, and a good discussion on Acidic/Alkaline environment- but yet another "Plan" that you have to intensely follow to the letter for 8 weeks, plus supplements to buy, specific exercises and a huge shopping list.. No thanks, I'm good....
A solid introduction to the world of fitness for beginners. This book is well-suited for those just starting their fitness journey, offering foundational guidance on nutrition and exercise. However, if you’ve been involved in fitness for some time, you may find that it doesn’t present much new information. It’s worth noting that some of the exercises might be too challenging for true beginners, and a few may require the supervision of a qualified trainer.
Interesting information and concept, but I think I need to research some of the ideas. I don't think this would work for every type of person (at least the timing.)
