"Have fun in the kitchen and wow your friends with 75 of Tasty's biggest, boldest, and most show-stopping "Over the Top" recipes. Tasty was built on majorly creative, playful, visually captivating, jaw-dropping, mouthwatering recipes. By that definition, Tasty Over the Top is Tasty to the core, with recipes just like the ones you have loved from the start and that keep you coming back. Here you'll find seventy-five recipes that pull out all the stops, like Breakfast Biscuit Nachos (yes, split biscuits baked on a sheet pan with all the nachos fixin's), a sloppy Joe/bacon-cheeseburger mash-up, and a BLT sandwich deconstructed into the salad of your dreams (think maple-glazed bacon and mayo-toasted croutions!) and more delicious, out-of-this-world ideas for breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, and drinks. This is the book to pull out when you need to knock your friends' socks off, prove your chops in the kitchen, and present a dish that is both unexpected and stunning. Not only are these dishes sure to impress, but they will also inspire you to try bold flavor combinations and to experiment with different skills and tricks that will make you feel like a tried and true Tasty chef"--
Flipping through this book, reminded me of those old-timey, 1960’s Good Housekeeping recipe books. There were so many retro recipes that might sound new-fangled for today’s generation, but yo, these dishes have been around, peeps. Cheez-Its in savories? Check. Sloppy Joe over burgers? Check. Blue lemonade and shrimp cocktail? Check 2x. And Whole Roasted Fish with Sizzling Chile Crisp? Get outta here, Asians cook this weekly.
But yeah I get it. This book is meant to be FUN and tongue in cheek. And not taken too seriously. Just like this review. Maybe.
I decided to buy this as a bargain book for fun. I enjoyed Tasty videos (although I haven't tried any of the recipes) and think it's a shame the Buzzfeed brand is on the decline. It also helped that I read another cookbook by one of their producers (Rie McClenny) and thought this would be a good supplement. Be aware, though, that the Buzzfeed/Tasty team are not really featured here: it is very much about the recipes.
And that is what it is. It is a cookbook of recipes that are, as the book says, over the top. Like a funnel cake banana split over the top. If you're looking for "simple" recipes, this is not your cookbook (it is, however, on brand for Tasty). There are also a bunch of gorgeous pictures.
That's pretty much it. I am unsure if these recipes were also featured on their YouTube channel or website at some point, but even if they are, you might find a cookbook more your lane for creating/recreating these recipes.
This is probably only for those who are hardcore fans of the Buzzfeed/Tasty brand, are serious foodies looking for some "fun" recipes, and the like. If you're just a casual fan or not really interested in making these recipes, these may or may not be in your lane. If you are unsure, definitely flip through it first before buying. But if it is a bargain book, it may be worth a purchase if it is cheap.
I bought this as a bargain buy and that was fine for me. In retrospect a library borrow would have been better but it was fine as cheap purchase.
I would not recommend this cookbook to everyone. Because not all of these recipes from this cookbook are appealing to everyone.
There are pictures in this cookbook that look gross arguably. Which is why I would recommend this book to brave foodies only.
Not everyone can buy special ingredients that are in this cookbook. You would have to buy those special ingredients online probably. Ingredients, such as sweet matcha powder, pitaya powder, butterfly pea flower tea, mini M&Ms, unsweetened strawberry drink powder, sushi-grade yellowfin tuna, nori, Sriarcha Mayo, Wasabi Mayo, red snapper, anise pods, aleppo pepper, and so forth are not easy to find in every supermarket or grocery shop. Some ingredients in this cookbook are expensive. Just going to warn you about that.
People who are new at learning how to cook should be very careful when following recipes from this cookbook. Because this cookbook has some recipes that are not easy to do.
Alcohol is an ingredient in a recipe from this cookbook. Tequila blanco is part of the "Watermelon Margerita Party Punch" recipe. Sorry for the kids who have parents that will not let them have alcoholic beverages.

Alright, most of these food recipes look disgusting lol but they may be fun and tasty to try with the kids. The desserts and the drinks they have in here look soooooo good
