Sister Seekers #5

Black Witch, Death Mage

Rate this book
Each day assaults my senses and leads me farther away from home. Inevitably, my mission will lead out of isolation to the first Human settlement in my path. With few watching my back and more tempted to exploit it, I wade into an unforgiving test of my training and vigilance, determined not to be pulled down.

Twisted portents and pious zealotry expose danger in every direction, while new, threatening dreams of distant sands muddle my Queen's past with my present. As all close in around me, I must find a way to serve the Valsharess and slip free of man-made chains which would enslave me.

In Black Witch, Death Mage , far-reaching threads and mystical visions constrict to bind those within it, pulling the tales of present and past closer than they've been in thousands of years.

Sister Seekers is adult epic fantasy with an ever-broadening scope, perfect for fans of entwined plots, challenging themes, elements of erotic horror, immersive worldbuilding. Sexuality and inner conflict play into character growth with nuance, intrigue, intense action, and fantastical magic. The series begins underground with an isolated race of Dark Elves whose intricate webs first ensnare then catapult us to places a Red Sister can only imagine in her dreams.

I just finished reading this book for the third time. It has some similarities to "The Daedal Pit", the third book in the Sister Seekers series (this one is the fifth in the series), which makes it a bit difficult for me to read as in both books Sirana, the main character, suffers significant trials and setbacks. Sirana is one of my favorite characters in any series and I hate to see her in peril. The book is well written and the story is very engaging. The author has stated that they write only one book at a time and the scenes are written in sequence, this is very noticeable when I read these books in that when reading a passage it is not unusual for me to recall a bit of dialog or a description of an event from two or three books back in the series which now makes a connection to the scene I just read.
These books are much more than a series of scenes and events connected by common characters and a story line. They are living, everything is connected together and the unfolding events are like living a life. At no point in this series can I say exactly where it is going, but it is clear that it is heading somewhere and that it will be an interesting trip.
The series is epic with wonderful world building and three dimensional characters that cannot be pegged as "good" or "bad", they all have good and bad traits, much like life in general.
Highly recommended.

Started in a bad place, but became great again!

She did it. I was not a fan of the last book but held out hope for the rest of the series. It started off in a bad place from the last book, and there were points where I wanted to just give up, but I persevered. But A. S. turned it around. She is a great storyteller and without being handicapped by repetitive sex scenes, she has spun a masterpiece that turned back into greatness. If she can keep on this track, I think the next book could be the best one yet in this series. I feel like with this book, after several chapters, she had found her stride and peak storytelling abilities. I'm definitely looking forward to the next one!

The only bad thing about a great book, like this one, is that it ends.

I loved how unsettling the antagonists became and how stories warped and twisted over time in this one. It was nice to see what's happening in other character plots, much less jarring PoV changes towards the end!

The plot has really become so huge, involving so much without feeling convoluted and I'm so stoked to see where everything and everyone is going in it (especially ).

Looking forward to starting book 6!
