I get moving.

I'm an introspective introvert. My body and mind are not always explicitly aware of each other when I'm thinking, but they are nonetheless always linked. It's not exercise, though. That's high body stress, and it takes concentration. I can't exercise and write at the same time. Movement for my writer's block is automatic, where the ideas can still happen. It's walking, cleaning, traveling long distances, dancing in my living room. Accompanying music also helps.

I walked long distances growing up--I was one of the few kids I knew who walked 2 miles to and from school during good weather because I preferred to be alone thinking than take the bus. That's probably where the "movement = idea flow" came from, and it's been able to shatter any writer's block so far. I've proven to myself that a moving, healthy body helps when my mind gets sluggish, stressed, or blocked.

Book 5 Update!

September was good to me for writing Sister Seekers 5. I'm at 57K words, halfway! May October treat us as well.

This is the perfect season to be writing a book like this, too! In the first version, the intro to horror and necromancy was mild and done quickly because I was heavily focused on sex (being on a sex site, I mean...yeah).

Now per the title - Black Witch, Death Mage - themes are better bal Read more of this blog post »

Gullivera by Milo Manara
"Gulliver's Travels, but Gulliver is female. With no pants.

I saw a single image from this and had to track down the full book.

A retelling of Swift's classic "Gulliver's Travels", but the hero here is a girl from the modern world who loses her air matt" Read more of this review »

Andrew shared a highlight from
Other Minds by Peter Godfrey-Smith
Octopuses love to eat crabs, but in the lab they are often fed on thawed-out frozen shrimp or squid. It takes octopuses a while to get used to these second-rate foods, but eventually they do. One day Boal was walking down a row of tanks, feeding each octopus a piece of thawed squid as she passed. On reaching the end of the row, she walked back the way she’d come. The octopus in the first tank, though, seemed to be waiting for her. It had not eaten its squid, but instead was holding it conspicuously. As Boal stood there, the octopus made its way slowly across the tank toward the outflow pipe, ...more

""The mind evolved in the sea. Water made it possible."

Biology isn't my thing. I don't recall how I even came upon this book but I found it easy to relate to and its reports of unusual behavior in Octopuses and Cuttlefish made for hours of interesting" Read more of this review »
