Humanity is not alone.

Supernatural beings are hiding among us. The Psi have remained secluded from humans for far too long, and there's a faction that is conspiring to break the veil and use their powers to take their rightful place among humans - as our rulers and conquerors.

Wren is a college student who didn't think her life could get much worse. That is until she's kidnapped by the Psi and questioned about her closest friend. But the Psi offer her something no one else can - the truth about who she is.

I really enjoyed getting lost in the world of Forgotten Scars! I got hints of Twilight in there at times, and who doesn’t love a good love triangle? Sometimes I just want a fantasy novel to escape into, and this gave me just that!

As this is flooded with the typical very positive high rating reviews you find on most new releases I think I have to be the voice of reason and be honest about this.

This book is unoriginal illogical and shallow. Its only appeal is teenage angst and romance drama in full YA fashion at which it does a good job.

In short:
Psi are the classic UF supernaturals. Vampires, werewolves, witches etc. but they are different.
The love interest is dark and brooding.
The MC is stupid and irrational.
Common sense and logic are not much more than vague suggestions.

Prepare for a rant.

I think my main problem is the stupidity of the MC, not because people have to be good at everything from the start but because she is unable to learn from her mistakes or even reach any sensible conclusions at all.
I have to talk spoilers about the first half of the book or so to explain, otherwise it would just be this vague drivel. But you are really not missing anything imo.
The blurb already takes away much of the book's start and I ended up waiting for it to finally catch up with the blurb so I could actually read about how things will continue from there. It takes over half of the book to finally get to the Psi reveal. And the book is clearly written as if this whole Psi business is this secret meant to create suspense. But the blurb already spoiled the entire thing!

Something else I found annoying was how the characters repeatedly compliment each other on how great they are at different things. It's very obviously meant to convince the reader but it's also a case of the author misunderstanding what "show, don't tell" means. It doesn't matter who is telling the reader. It doesn't become showing just because you make another character tell it. And it leads to very awkward and unnatural dialogue on top of that. Or maybe the author really thinks that people actually talk like that to each other, who knows.

Now onto the romance. Besides being fundamentally out of place because it's just the clichéed sappy overemotional cheesy cheese full of "FEELING" and "NEED".

I want to comment on the political agenda pushing here too even though it's really just a very minor complaint compared to all the other issues.
There is a lot of inclusive wokeness going on here.
We have an MC adopted by a gay couple.
But you know what she gets bullied for? A weird scar on her face and her dads are basically a non-issue. I don't think there is anything wrong with a gay couple adopting a child in principle but this is clearly a world full of prejudice so gay parents would for sure be a major target for cruel children. And telling a story about that and how she and her family dealt with that could've been interesting. But instead, the one negative she took away from her childhood is bullying over a scar. Of course. /s

There are a few examples of bizarre inclusive arguments like this one. Calling all Psi "vampires" is wrong because there are lots of different kinds of Psi just like there are lots of differences between humans. This is not a quote but it captures the essence.
But instead of just pointing out that there is more to it than the simple vampire trope, it tries to make this weird inclusiveness argument and that the term vampire is somehow offensive.
It's just such a strange argument that explicitly contradicts itself by implying that calling a human "human" is somehow disrespectful too. Dear author, we call humans human and nothing about that is racist. And the MC clearly knows UF stereotypes and tropes so they must be a thing in this world. So why not use that to explain? Instead, the book tries to use these situations to virtue signal in this really weird and backward way.
But to be fair, this lack of logic is not exclusive to the progressive agenda that is being pushed on the reader here. It just generally lacks basic logic and common sense.
And don't get me wrong, I am not frustrated by this because I disagree with the agenda itself. I always hate it when books do this no matter which kind of agenda it is. Even if I agree with the general notion, this is not the place. You can write a book and have a genuine discussion about political topics as Dune does. But you need to have a discussion. Not this self-congratulatory "look, we are so progressive" almost like asking for approval.

Not a fan, wouldn't recommend not even for a YA audience.

WOW. WOW. WOW. Where do I even start with this book? I was obsessed since the very first chapter. I was hooked on this book after reading the most relatable character ever, Wren. I love her, she is everything I would ever want in a protagonist.
Libraries and bookstores always felt like home, similar to the way that a paintbrush felt like it belonged in my hand, and the way a mug of tea brought the promise of warmth.
Then, by chapter two I was blushing and embarrassed and squealed like a little girl. This book totally gave me some very subtle Twilight vibes and I'm HERE. FOR. IT. But unlike Twilight, the main character is interesting, enjoyable, and relatable, like I mentioned.
Also brace yourselves, because all the tea talking in this book had me constantly getting up to make myself a different tea. I kept very hydrated while reading this book (and a possible addiction has been started)

Scars remind us that we are survivors. They show that we have gone through something and that we haven’t let that pain defeat us or define us.

Basically, this book checks all my boxes
Relatable main character CHECK
HOT HOT HOT new book boyfriends CHECK
Cringeworthy embarrassment via the main character CHECK
Hilarious banter between characters CHECK
No BS of over description that I have to skim read CHECK
Excitement in every chapter - this book is go, go, go CHECK CHECK CHECK.

Obviously, I really really loved this book and I have a feeling I'm going to officially be Natlaies biggest fan and hype girl because I NEED ALL THE BOOKS PRONTO. I love it and I'm willing to shout it from the rooftops. I think everyone that enjoys romance and fantasy will enjoy this one!

Also, I'm team Misha.
(PS. IF YOU'VE READ THIS LET ME KNOW SO WE CAN ALL BE FRIENDS AND TALK ABOUT WHICH TEAM WE ARE ON. OK THANKS)

Forgotten Scars by Natalie J. Reddy is my first read by this author and it certainly won’t be my last. It’s been a while since I read a YA book that I got this into. I absolutely loved the urban fantasy and paranormal romance elements. The plot was exciting and well-paced. I was never bored and very much enjoyed the adventure this took me on!
I liked Wren. She is young and you can tell. There’s a naivety of her age that shows, which makes it very realistic. I am looking forward to seeing how her character grows through this series.
The writing is great. I loved the action. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for the next book in the series. If you like a fun, YA fantasy, this is a great read!

I feel like the story itself was a good idea, but the writing sounded a bit silly and the narrator was pretty bad. Almost gave it 3 stars, but I was intrigued enough by the story to want more, so 4 stars it is.

This is a fast paced book and I was quickly sucked in. Wren is likeable, shes not had an easy life and is a strong character.

Natalie's psi/vampires are unique and I wanted to know more about this underground world and how they operate. Readers discover them along with Wren, and the information is revealed in a way that feels natural.

There is a little romance and the chemistry was great but it's not the focal point of the story. This is more of an action paced novel with a mystery to resolve.

The book has a good conclusion. It is the first in a series and I can see the scope for more stories in this world and I would want to read more.

I really enjoyed this book especially since it was full of diverse and hot characters 😂
For me, storyline and characters matters the most in any book and the way this book deals with the characters is unexpectedly great!
I really enjoyed reading about PSI (which are basically like vampires & werewolves).
I literally devoured this book in one day as the plot was kinda interesting and my love for Misha! (He’s such a mysterious dude!) All in all, I throughly enjoyed this book and now I literally can’t wait for the next book to come out!!

Excellent fantasy/suspense novel that draws the reader in with an opening scene both mysterious and touching, then develops into a gripping narrative about a woman with blocked memories who encounters the Psi, a secret group of people with psychic and supernatural abilities. I liked the development of Wren’s character and her interactions with Darshan, Misha, and Jyoti (but especially Misha!)

With perfectly molded characters and a hint of mystery, this one surely is a page turner. It answered a lot of questions but added many too. I rarely read sci-fi novels and have never read an urban fantasy one before but this one did justice to my time. What a debut! This is book one of the Scars of Days Forgotten series and I can't wait for the sequel.

A fantastic debut novel by Natalie J Reddy! This book was a couldn't-put-down one for me. The pacing was great, the characters were dynamic and appealing (including their negative traits!) and the conflicts the main character went through felt real. I'm looking forward to book two!

Who can you trust?

Excellent story; it was so easy to fall into the adventure and try to figure out alongside the main character who and what to believe. Sometimes the only way to figure out if someone is worth trusting is to trust them, to take a step of faith.

Wow.
Where do I even begin?
This book had me hooked from the beginning.
"Libraries and bookstores always felt like home"

It was easy to get quickly sucked into this world. Wren is a strong character who hasn't had an easy life. There was a whole new supernatural creature, PSI. Similar to vampires and werewolves, but not exactly. I wanted to know more about what they were and what they could do. We the readers learn about them right along with Wren, without too much information dumping. While learning about everything in this world Natalie also through in a little romance. It wasn't the main focus of the story but there was definitely some great chemistry going on there. I'm not a huge fan of love triangles, but this one hasn't started to bother me just yet.
I also LOVED how diverse the characters in this book were.

Forgotten Scars is the first book in Natalie J. Reddy’s urban fantasy series Scars of Days Forgotten. Wren is a young woman with a past shrouded in mystery. She bears a scar on her face that she has no idea how she got. While she has no memories of her past she found happiness when she was adopted by her dads. But now in college fate is about to start throwing her some twists that she’s not prepared for. It all starts with a heartbreaking scene with her boyfriend and morphs into her being abducted by a stranger in a bathroom. The people who have her say that they are looking for her friend, Wendy, but Wren has nothing to offer them in the form of information. But it’s not like she’d be able to hide any secrets from them...since they can easily read her mind.
Forgotten Scars really is the book that lays the groundwork for this series in my opinion. The pace is moderate, but there really isn’t a lot of drama going on. Wren finds herself in danger here and there, some because of her own decisions, and then others because of someone else. With Wren being the focus of basically all the characters and then the block on her mind, I really kept waiting for there to be something special about her. It’s a bit disappointing that right now she’s being painted as just a regular human.
This book really emphasizes that you shouldn’t truly trust anyone. When you think that you have someone figured out or think that they fall into a particular category you get shown the truth. Let me just say this...there is a lot of deception in this book. There is some romance in this book between Wren and Darshan, but someone else wants that place in her life and mind and I feel that is part of what motivates that particular character’s actions. So that pushes me to be team Darshan until I’m shown he’s team evil.
This book has quite a few errors that managed to make it to the bitter end. Missing words, correctly spelled, but misspelled words, and capitalizations that just shouldn’t be in the middle of certain words. A couple of these issues might be able to ignore for some, but the missing words and misspelled or wrong tense used are just too hard to ignore for me. Another thorough round with an editor would have helped catch these mistakes. When it comes to the characters, I’m not that big a fan of Wren. She’s allowed to have an attitude more than any of the other characters. While she’s being snarly and having an attitude, only Darshan shows some irritation here and there while everyone is almost always smiling. Hardly believable to be honest.
I’m rating this book 4 out of 5 stars. The errors were an automatic loss of a star. The blurb hypes the story up a bit more than what is really going on since this book appears to be laying the groundwork. I need more emotions from the other characters and for Wren to mellow out. I’m hopeful that the next book will be an improvement in the storyline.

I found Natalie Reddy through a book tour company that I am an Influencer for.. I saw this book and thought it would be interesting and requested a copy.

I went into this book blind. I knew nothing about the author nor did I know anything about the book. The first chapter drew me in with heartbreak and I flew through the book in one night. This story follows Wren who at a young age is dropped off at the police station with a note pinned to her with only her name. She has no memory of who she is or where she is from. The only thing that she knows is that she had a long scar down the side of her face and knows that it is the key to finding out who she is. Fast forward to wren's college age years. She is kidnapped and thrown into a world that is unbelievable and told things that couldn't be true..... Wren doesn't know who she can trust or who to turn too for help.

This book was written so well. I was so engrossed in the story and mystery surrounding Wrens's life that I didn't even realize how late into the night I had read. The plot is so interesting and I absolutely loved all of the characters you meet in book one. Misha was definitely a favorite of mine. The world building was very intricate and complex but Natalie really explained it well. The ending left on a bit of a cliffhanger but luckily for me, The series is complete. I give this book 5 stars.

WOWZA!!!! I absolutely loved this book! I was completely sucked in!!

Forgotten Scars is about orphan Wren who has a scar down the side of her face and no memories of her childhood. Then she gets kidnapped and finds out there's supernaturals called Psi living amongst humans. It's NA paranormal fantasy with a dash of romance.

I like Wren - she's feisty and strong but also down to earth and not a superhero. She's a really great MC! The writing is fantastic! I was so into the story I couldn't put it down! The pacing is great!! I really like all the characters - they're all well defined and distinct! I'm here for Misha!! I'm all about the big, brooding Russian!!! I wanted to more of him!

I'm so glad I read this book! I can't wait to read the rest of the series now!! I'm completely hooked! Seriously, I totally recommend this one plus it's free for Amazon Kindle right now! You can try it risk free! It's such a fabulous read!!

Thank you Natalie and R&R Book Tours for the free e-book!!! So glad I got the chance to read! Opinions and gushing all my own!!

Book: Forgotten Scars
Read By: Ebook
Author: Natalie J Reddy
Genre: Fantasy Romance
Recommend: Yes
< b>Age recommendation: 18-30+ Years
My feelings:

From the very first page, this novel was a thrilling and adrenaline-filled ride. The author effortlessly crafted a complex and intricate world, filled with vibrant characters and unique group known as the Psi. Each chapter left you on the edge of your seat, eagerly awaiting the next twist or turn in the plot. But what truly stood out was the inclusivity woven throughout the story. Same-sex relationships were portrayed without hesitation, alongside diverse characters from various cultures and backgrounds. Even in the audiobook version, the characters' accents were accurately represented, adding an extra layer of depth to their personalities. As for the main character, Wren, her quick and sometimes brash decision making made it challenging to fully connect with and understand her motivations. Nevertheless, I am eager to read the second installment

What an amazing debut novel!

There were so many things I loved about Forgotten Scars! Universe building is always something I look out for when I read books and I believe Natalie has done a sensational job at that. What could have been elaborated more would be Wesley's Institute as I was a bit confused with where they sat in this whole Psi universe. This book was really easy to get into, as it dove into the themes of friendship and trust.

Something that I don't like is when the main female character's role is often the damsel in distress. The number of times she's hurt and Darshan or Misha come to her rescue is a lot. If you are trying to write a strong female lead, don't portray her as weak, she needs her badass moments and I feel like Wren didn't get any. Other than a few inconsistencies with Misha and Darshan's characters, I don't have any more critiques.

I would definitely recommend this book to fans of Lynette Noni.

3.5 stars. Read via audiobook.

This was an exciting, fast paced and action packed debut novel!

Things that I enjoyed included the complexity of the world the author created and the Psi species, and that every chapter left you guessing for what was going to happen next.

It was written extremely inclusively, including same sex relationships and characters, as well as people from a lot of different cultures and backgrounds; the audiobook also took into consideration the characters different accents which I’m not sure if I enjoyed or not as they obviously weren’t genuine, so to speak, and I might have enjoyed this more as a physical version.

The MC, Wren, was quite abrupt with her decision making which made it hard to connect with and understand her as a character but I’m looking forward to the second instalment to see more of this world and truths uncovered!

I don’t read much YA nowadays but I’d certainly recommend this if you enjoy layered world building, fast pace but slower plot and complex characters.

I really liked this book and think this is a strong start to a promising series.

It isn't a spoiler to say the main character is kidnapped, as you can learn that much by reading the blurb on the back of the book. I was relieved by the main character's response to this, which would (I think) be similar to my reaction to being kidnapped. I have read stories where this isn't the case, so this is a nice change of pace.

I enjoyed how the mysteries unfolded in this story, a little at a time, and didn't give you everything all at once. In fact, you still don't get all the facts at the end of the story and I can't wait to read more in this series.

I would recommend this book for teens and up due to some potentially scary situations for younger readers. The language is pretty clean and there is nothing I would object to having my teens read.

I won this book in a Goodreads Giveaway. Thank you to the author. This is an honest review, unaffected by this fact.

It’s a 4.5⭐️ for me.
A secret society with special abilities or say powers living in plain sight with humans, you can call them vampires, witches, werewolves, or anything but they are none of them and are actually humans with powers. They have a council to govern them and all the problems lie within the structure. An interesting plot with lots of secrets and spice.

Wren is a girl who is unaware of anything and is living her nonexistential life when her world got turned upside down. She got sucked into the middle of a looming war just for knowing a person. The story is very well written and it engaged me from the very first chapter. The characters are expressed so clearly that it explains the story well. I didn’t lose interest at any point, the background of the story is well-groomed. It’s full of emotional levels from exhausting to tiring to plotting. Looking forward to reading book 2 in a few days' time.

Wren's life always seemed to be complicated....

Left to walk into a police station alone, as a little girl, without any memory of her past, hasn't made Wren's life very easy. Yet she tries to make sure, that the life she's been given, is filled. Filled with what memories she has of those she's loved, her current art work, and her ambitions for it. At times, she has a hard time connecting with others, making friends, and or building deeper relationships with her boyfriend. While the events that take her out of her old life throw her into a scary, dangerous, and or possibly deadly place. It may actually help her to find the freedom to truly live again. The tale is quick, and yet it draws you to Wren, the friends she's making, the men she's loved, or could fall in love with, and makes you want to root for her, and protect her from those who would hurt her.

I had to quit half way through when the book turned into a full-on bodice ripper, suitable only for women who like books with pictures of Fabio on the cover. I didn't need the extended descriptions of manly, muscular physiques and ripped abs each of the many times the author found an excuse for the male characters to remove their shirts.

Better writing than I expected, but the premise and plot were not particularly original. I also found the lead character very unappealing. Weak, indecisive, constantly making the wrong decisions like the young people in a horror move..."No, get out of the house! Don't run into the basement!" That was OK in the first installment of the series, but the character showed little or no emotional growth as the story went on.

First, let me say, I love Wren. She's amazing! Overall, I thought the characters were well-developed, and the world well-built. The only real downside to me was at times this had very Twilight-esque vibes (not my cup of tea, pun only sort of intended with the amount of tea flowing in this book). What I loved - how relatable Wren is. She's got problems most girls her age don't, but she's pretty down to earth. The pacing was great, and there's enough suspense and twists to keep the reader turning pages after you've started reading. If you enjoyed Twilight, you'll love this, if you enjoy young adult paranormal books, you'll find it to be a fun read.
