Magic Emporium

Purgatory Playhouse

Rate this book
The very last thing out-of-work theater technician TD Baylor should have done was blow his last ten bucks on a crapshoot. He was one couch-surf shy of homeless, for Pete’s sake. But as he was trudging along suburban Boston streets with all his worldly possessions in tow, the sign in the window of an over-the-top Halloween pop-up caught his eye: Marden’s Magic Emporium. With the way his luck was running lately, he figured magic might be the only thing that could fix his life, so… what the hell.

He didn’t realize that hell was an operative word.

Okay, maybe not hell, per se. But what TD thought were some unnecessarily kickass special effects (the three-headed dog guarding the door of the underground theater was a real winner) turn out to be…more.

Because now he’s helping to mount a musical production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream for the Greek pantheon, and there’s more than bad reviews on the line for the performers. A good show could mean redemption for one of them. A bad show…

Yeah, did he mention that part about hell?

Purgatory Playhouse is part of the multi-author Magic Emporium Series. Each book stands alone, but each one features an appearance by Marden’s Magic Emporium, a shop that can appear anywhere, but only once and only when someone’s in dire need. This book contains a desperate theater techie, a production assistant who’s sort of, um, not alive, Greek gods behaving badly, and a guaranteed HEA.

I really like E.J. Russell, and I read lots of her stuff, so I was excited to try Purgatory Playhouse. It seemed like a fun story, but with a confusing plot, and after I read it it ended up being... a fun story with a confusing plot.

To be honest, Purgatory Playhouse felt 2x as long as it actually was. I was positive it was 300+ pages, and I was shocked when I double checked and it was under 200. The story was very repetitive-feeling for such a short length. That is really where my issues lie: the pacing felt off, the romance slightly underdeveloped, and the ended wrapped up too neatly.

However, if you can get past my complaining, the story had some really fun elements. I liked the mythological characters (I had to look most of them up as I was reading), but I was entertained by their "real life" depictions. I also am a sucker for a *virgin* MC, so I enjoyed that plot development (*winks*).

Overall, a low-angst, cute story for theater nerds and mythology geeks (which, I'm not going to lie, will probably have a lot of overlap).

Wow!!!! This book surprised me so many times!!!

Love this author a lot so expected it to be awesome!!! But they caught me with so many twists and turns that I didn't see coming that this read was a total rollercoaster of a ride! TD and Lonnie were just incredible together and Ted's spunk and determination were inspiring! So happy I read this!!!!

What a fabulous idea for a book

I've really enjoyed all the books so far in this series but this has to be one of my favourites.

It combines so many of my nerdish loves - Greek mythology, Shakespeare, A Midsummer Night's Dream in particular (I play an excellent Hippolyta/Titania in case you were wondering 😁 ) and snarky dialogue.

I loved TD and Lonnie, plus the rest of the cast and crew, and was very satisfied with all parts of this plot!

This book was so much fun! I was drawn in from pretty much the first page and couldn't stop reading after that (or I would have kept on reading this in one go if celebrating Christmas with my family hadn't made me putting it down for a day).

Low angst, hilarious and cute. The only negative thing I have to say is that the ending felt a bit rushed.

It was better than okay, but still not great. EJ Russell is a hit or miss for me. Sometimes their books are just not good to me but others can be completely confusing but still entertaining. I liked this book just fine honestly but I wonder if I was just in a weird spot because as much as I have really enjoyed Greg Boudreaux in the past but he annoyed me in this book. He tends to use the same two voices for the MCs in every book he narrates. I honestly haven't minded until this one, but it just hit me wrong I guess.

Honestly, don't mind me, this really was an entertaining story. I think I might just be grumpy.

Hopefully this will go away in a couple days because it’s driving me mad haha

This book was cute, low angst, and nothing special. Greg Boudreaux killed it like usual!

This was a fun read. A down on his luck theatre technician gets sent to purgatory to run their yearly production for the Greek gods. Greek myths were cleverly weaved into the story as TD forced the Gods to consider their actions.
TD was a force of nature and I loved how selflessly he stood up for everyone.

I liked so much of this book. I’m a huge geek for Greek mythology, so I absolutely adored how many characters from myths we got to see here and watch someone stand up for them against all the gods (because let’s face it, the gods are jerks.)I loved TD and Lonnie, and how they found each other in a situation where love probably shouldn’t have been possible. I definitely enjoyed how the Magic Emporium played a roll right from the beginning, and the new staff was absolutely one of the highlights of the books. However, a lot of my enjoyment was cut back by the fact that what was probably the most climactic scene of the book happened entirely off page. I wish we could’ve seen what happened in the playhouse to change everything, but unfortunately we’re told about it in one paragraph. For me, that just didn’t work as well.

It took me a bit to get into the book, but once I did I was hooked! I love the idea of mixing the greek pantheon into the story, it's odd but works wonderfully. It twists in a way you don't expect it to, and suspends the mystery in such a way that it isn't obvious. Delightfully written for sure!

I went into this book without reading the blurb in the last cash sale as I knew the writer and the narrator from previous books. I am so glad I got this one. It was totally worth buying.

In here we have TD, who's real name is Taylor Baylor because his parents were different and Lonnie, who has been in purgatory since 1968.

They took one look at each other and it was instalove. Which was good since they spent very little time together as they were putting on a play for the Greek gods.

Well, TD was not someone who can let anyone be hurt so he pretty much went to war against these gods. And I don't blame him, what the gods had been doing was bad.

The ending started off sad and I was about to start raging as I wasn't sure the HEA/HFN was going to happen, then bam!! That ending.

You have to put aside logical questions and just go with the vibe.

This actually had some sex scenes, which were great, but shocked me cause the last book I read by them only had a kiss. I'm glad to have seen these.

The narration was top notch and Greg Boudreaux was awesome as always.

I really enjoyed this story. It was a bit short and maybe the ending was a bit abrupt. It extensively draws on Greek mythology so some familiarity may help enjoyment. I have been reading The Lightning Thief series and so I particularly enjoyed a different take on Greek mythology. I liked the Magic Emporium setting and this book made me want to read more of the author and setting. The main characters might have been a bit underdeveloped and fell in love very quickly, but it was a cute story.

This story was sooo much FUN!

It is a part of Magic Emporium series and it can be read as a standalone.
First and foremost, this book is very original. I always liked greek myths and the presence of all greek gods and their victims made this book so much more interesting.
All characters are great, even annoying and self-centered gods. I adored Alonzo and TD, they couldn't be any more different, but they were super cute together.

In a way it is an insta-love/insta-lust story, but considering that TD had a crush on Alonso since he was a teen it is fully understandable :)
It is a low heat romance with lots of humor and surprises. There is almost no angst and it is an ideal fast read for a lazy evening: well written, fast paced and sweet story.

Read for a group challenge, so another skip in the series. I’ll eventually read them all. This one was an instant hell yes for me. It was one I was looking forward to and the only one I went straight to the blurb for a quick look. Any book with Cerberus getting cuddles is a win for me, plus redemption and the Greek gods. TD and Lonnie were cute and the romance was quick and sweet.

Wouldn’t say insta love since TD was already crushing on the guy. I’d say more fated mates. I liked the supporting cast, they were all sweet and I liked how TD stood up for them. But yeah the guy has zero self-preservation, I was just waiting for him to take on the wrong god. A fixer, an actor, one large three headed doggie, the victims of the Greek gods and the Greek gods getting constantly scolded. Straight forward and fun.

A fantasy combining Greek mythology, Limbo, redeeming gods and a theatre production of Shakespeare in one tight package. It was enjoyable, and I liked how the horrendous Greek gods got their comeuppance (well some of them. And they have definitely mellowed over the ages. If TD lived in ancient Greece, he would have ended up a blood splatter. IF he was lucky). As with the other books in the Magic Emporium series, it was light-hearted and fun, with low angst.

Another Magic Emporium book! Yay!

I love this series. I don't know who came up with the idea, but it is brilliant and I am so happy many of my favorite authors are participating in this project! It has been an absolute delight to read each author's take on it and this book was no exception!

This story is set in Purgatory. Not Hell or Heaven, but Purgatory. How cool is that?! There is just something absolutely fascinating about afterlife and the whole Heaven/Hell debacle, so this was a very interesting and unique twist on it, since Purgatory is not encountered as often as Heaven or Hell. Mix in some Greek gods and a good time is guaranteed.

But don't think this is another story where Gods are worshipped or play the bad guy turned good game. Oh no, there is no worshipping here! The Gods are a bunch of absolutely spoiled brats that throw temper tantrums and do everything on the whim with no regard for others and no one really likes them. The cast fears them, since so many of them have been abused by the Gods in one way or another, so they try to avoid them entirely, meekly accepting everything they dish out. The Gods are quite the villains in this story, but don't fear, dear darned souls, their age of terror has come to an end! (Dramatic, I know, must be all that Shakespeare ;D )
Our hero TD comes as a savior of the theater production, but ends up being the savior of them all - he is not afraid to call the spoiled brats out on their actions and demand fair treatment of others, such as breaks for food and rest, and to stop all the harassments. I was fascinated how my first impression was wrong about him and he kept surprising me at every turn! You see, at the start he seems like this sad, angry and somewhat meek guy who is down on his luck and ready to give up. But then, he gets his job at the Purgatory theater and turns from a mouse into a lion, a fierce protector who does not tolerate injustice of any kind! Hear me roar indeed!

I was entirely wrong in my initials assessment about TD and about Lonnie too I am afraid. He was such a nice guy, trying to keep peace all around him, so I expected him to be this "take charge, smooth talker" type, but can you guess it? He surprised me as well! He was not at all what I expected, but I liked his character and its development all the same. He and TD were such a great couple and I rooted for them all the way though that hellish theater production. See what I did there? *chuckle*

This was a great story with a fresh and engaging take on mythology and paranormal world, with delightful characters who are all a hoot. Admittedly, it had a lot les humor than one might expect, but it was still interesting and kept my avid interest till the very end.

A Magical Emporium novel. Set in purgatory, a group of lost souls perform endless plays for the pleasure of the Greek gods for a chance to win their freedom. Lonnie a movie star from the Golden age of Hollywood has all but lost hope of escaping purgatory or finding love. Through the magic of the Emporium TD a human technician enters purgatory to aid the lost souls, rebuild their theatre sets giving hope to Lonnie and the other members of the playhouse. An original idea and a good read.

I thought TD was clearly the MVP because of what he did - he challenged the environment, challenged the attitudes, and well, the Greek gods. Lonnie felt rather undeveloped. BUT the idea of the Purgatory Playhouse was fun.

What I was very annoyed with was the ending... so TD was rejected from the purgatory, and I NEVER KNEW WHAT HAPPENED IN BETWEEN THAT AND THE EPILOGUE!!! I mean, COME ON!! I want to know HOW the Fates broke up the playhouse. I want to see how the gods are being reprimanded by the Fates. WHY IT DID HAPPEN OFF-PAGE?!?!

Uuuurgh, so very annoyed.

Raise some Hell

The Greek gods, whose arrogance knows no bounds, had no idea what was in store for them when they hired TD. Or... did they? Whichever it may be TD is an amazing disruptive force. He literally has a Hell of a time and I flat out love him; love him as in I think the world needs more of him and his influence. “The idea of you, the hope of you, the dream of you—that’s been on my mind forever. But the reality of you...is so much more. You’re not in my mind. You’re in my heart.” Swoons, oh my heart, I adore Lonnie and TD together. They’re romance and magic personified. In a world full of crafty gods, drama and chaos, they’re a balm to the soul. Speaking of craft, I am so enamored with all of the mythology that peppers this book but with such clever twists it opens your eyes. It’s fate-tastic and I want more.

This book is so different and so interesting. I bet those who are knowledgeable about Greek mythology will appreciate it even more, having a deeper understanding of the stories behind what’s mentioned here, but even without only a passing knowledge of some of the key gods I could still enjoy the story and the main message of the story being conveyed by TD. There is a very handy glossary at the end of the book but I wasn’t aware of it until I finished the book. There’s also a handy glossary of theatre terms that may help those unfamiliar with the lingo that accompanies mounting a show.

The MCs here have an interesting relationship hurdle, what with one of them being dead and one very much alive. The entire premise is different and sets a good stage. I enjoyed the re-examination of the gods’ behavior through TD’s eyes and his impact on his fellow company members. Lonnie, a deceased former actor, is the all around theatre company manager trying to solve all the problems of putting on their once a year production for the Greek Pantheon which will result in one performer getting their ticket out of Purgatory. Everyone else will go back to Limbo unless they give up and just disappear into oblivion. This year presents particular problems as when the company arrives in Purgatory from Limbo none of the sets, costumes etc has arrived with them. It’s all got to be re-created in less than two weeks. Enter down on his luck TD, a man with a theatre technician degree who sees a want ad.

The story arc moves well with lots of developments that are unexpected. The relationship is sweet and different. The new perspective on the mythologies keeps the reader thinking. The crisis point is emotional and the ending is sweet. This was a fun read.

**I voluntarily read an arc and this is my unbiased opinion.**

I liked the plot, but not the story.

The book felt like someone’s excuse to rant about Greek mythology. I agree: the stories of how the Greek pantheon treated others was terrible and the victims were the ones that ended up punished more times than not. BUT I didn’t pick up a PNR book to read someone complaining about that long ago religion/mythology.

I thought it was implausible that these Greek gods would react the way they did to TD’s lectures. There was no response allowed really from the pantheon playhouse people over what TD realized had occurred either. And then they just skipped over to the happy ending. That’s lack of closure IMO. The book should have dealt more with this most recent trick of the gods rather than ranting about all the stuff that happened so long ago. Or hey ... maybe the book should have focused on the interactions of the main characters instead (since it’s being billed as a romance).

A Magically Delightful Story! Fabulous Narration & Audible Listen🎧

Purgatory Playhouse
A M/M Fantasy Rom-Com
By: E.J. Russell
Narrated by: Greg Boudreaux
Series: Magic Emporium

I enjoyed this book immensely, the unique and original story is entertaining and contains interesting storylines that are captivating from start to end. I loved the magical elements in this story, as well as the imaginative spin on Greek Mythology and their Gods, including their love for theater and drama. I am a huge theater lover and have a great appreciation for both the actors and everything that goes on behind the scenes, including all the tech work. The world building and character development is great and easy to follow. I adored the two lead characters, TD Baylor, a down on his luck, out of work theater technician, he steps into a shop, the Magic Emporium, to avoid spending his last ten dollars at the coffee shop next door. He stumbles on a bizarre sales person and winds up spending his money anyway. Before leaving he sees a job announcement for a theater tech conveniently located in the same building. What he finds is beyond anything he could have imagined, includes an actor, who he idolized and is not longer around. Alonzo “Lonnie” Coleridge is part of a theater group that puts on a show each year for the Greek pantheon, but Lonnie is no ordinary human, he and others have left their life behind and are stuck in limbo, they aim to please the Greek Gods so they can redeem themselves and get out of limbo (purgatory) and be rewarded with entering Heaven. Problem for them is their Tech person left them a few weeks before the show, they put out notices for a new one and lucked out getting one, a quickie, a live human. TD is a good sport about it all, he gets to meet a lot of interesting characters and help get a musical version of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. He and Lonnie hit it off, there is great chemistry between them and they work well together. TD winds up challenging the Gods when he finds out what they have been up to. When it is his time to leave he was hoping to have time to see Lonnie again or at least make it an annual event, but the Gods had other plans. This magically delightful story is fast moving and cleverly plotted, with plenty of drama, humor, witty dialogue, heartfelt and emotional moments and a slow burn romance. E.J. Russell thank you for this great story.

🎧📚🎧 And for the amazing narration, Greg Boudreaux delivers another fabulous performance bringing brings these characters and their story to life He has a complete understanding of the characters he is playing, gives each a voice that fits that character to a tee and sounds believable in every role he plays and just as I pictured the character would sound. As always, his comedic timing is flawless, he handles the witty dialogue with ease and switches character roles effortlessly without missing a beat. He is an entertaining storyteller, and his narration enhances the story to another level. Thanks for another exceptional listen, it is always a pleasure to listen to your work.

Thank you #GRR

I have loved every book in this series so far, but I have to admit this has been my favorite of them all. And that’s saying a lot. If you have not read this series, you are missing out. It has just been absolutely amazing. But with this one, I got so many things that I love. Paranormal, greek gods & goddesses, someone to stand for the victims….it’s just one of the best I’ve read.

When TD shows up in Boston, expecting to be met by the man of his supposed dreams, it turns out to be a nightmare, where he is left homeless and jobless. And one his way to do something, Marden’s Emporium shows up and gives TD a chance at what he needs. A job and a place to stay for a few weeks so he can get on his feet again. But what he expects out of this job is not what he gets at all.

Instead, he gets people from ‘Limbo’ in Purgatory to put on a play for the gods. He has to put up with crap from the gods that is totally unfair, and the good part….kind of...he meets the idol of his dreams.

And this is where it gets fun. I love TD. I love everything about that man because he takes no crap off ANYONE. He doesn’t even realize how many times he’s put his life in danger because he’s had it up to the heavens with all the crap the gods are pulling and he’s going to do all he can to fight for the victims in this mess. Even if it means going against the Fates and having his own life strand cut. But he doesn’t care. All he cares about is making sure everyone else is taken care of. He cuts deals that leaves him with less so the others have more. He cuts deals and manipulates things, so the gods will see what they’ve done wrong to the people they’ve wronged and made them fix it. And it’s not made him friends in some circles. But in other circles, he’s everyone’s hero. Not that he wants to be one. And that’s what I love too. He doesn’t want pats on the back or accolades. He just wants what should be right, done right.

And then Lonnie. Sweet, sweet Lonnie. All this time thinking he’s just been on the sidelines not fighting for anything or doing anything to make a difference. When the first thing TD sees, is what a difference Lonnie makes. He just does it quietly. He fills in where he’s needed, helps when it’s needed, gives comfort, holds a hand, whatever. He quietly fills whatever role he needs to fill to make everyone happy. And I love that he and TD are so alike that way. They don’t want the pats on the back or anything. They just want to help. They want the people around them happy. And because of it, they get the happiness they are looking for too. In each other. Lonnie always wanted someone to love him and he never dreamed he’d get it with being stuck in Purgatory. But Marden’s always has a way of giving someone what they are in dire need of. And even though Lonnie didn’t visit the shop himself, it worked out for him as well.

It’s such a good story. I loved every minute of this book. I was so so happy to get to read this. You guys need to pick this series up if you haven’t already. It’s worth it.

This was a blend of so many things I love: Greek mythology, actors and theater nerds, an adorable 'I used to have a crush on you' love story.

E.J. Russell's contribution to the multi-authored Magic Emporium series immediately stood out to me because of the fascinating synopsis: a theater technician gets roped into helping a motley and partially mythological crew perform A Midsummer Night's Dream for the Greek gods. As much as I love mythology and folklore, I'm always huffing at the selfish and frankly disproportionate reactions of the gods and fates. Like Apollo is the one who completely disregards consent and harasses Daphne every chance he gets and yet SHE'S the one who is punished by being transformed into a laurel tree? Hera's the goddess of marriage and family and yet she tosses baby Hephaestus off of a freakin' mountain because she's annoyed by her husband's affairs? Not cool, Hera. If you have ever found yourself asking these 21st century questions about the myths of eras past, you will absolutely love our main character, TD Baylor, as he explodes onto the scene (hehe, stage pun) with a keen sense of justice and few qualms about holding immortal beings accountable for their wrongs. I loved how quickly TD grew to care for the ragtag crew around him, too - the novel really captures that communal feel that a theater can develop.

The romance was unique and very sweet - TD ends up falling for Lonnie, an actor who died in the 1960s. Watching the two of them negotiate their relationship from two very different contexts - TD is an out, proud, 21st century gay man, whereas Lonnie was struggling to open up about his identity and wants in the 1960s - is an absolute treat for anybody that loves it when characters in romances actually take a moment to communicate about their feelings rather than just pining from a distance. Don't get me wrong, there is plenty of pining too. There's just some good ol' talking about your feelings action later down the line that makes all of that pining pay off.

The reason this isn't rated higher is because I do think that the last quarter of the book is wrapped up a bit too quickly, especially considering the care and effort E.J. Russell demonstrated in building such a rich and clever setting at the beginning.

Overall though, this is a fun, quick read that will definitely stick in my mind because of its originality and gorgeously creative blend of mythology and the modern.

Drama or comedy?

A really fascinating tale! Though a part of the Magic Emporium series this book had one of the shortest connections to that, essentially only happening at the very beginning of the book and then simply diving into the story at hand. And what a story that was!

Have you ever read a Greek myth and thought that if you could talk to some of those gods you would give them a piece of your mind? Well, that is sort of exactly what happens to TD. Without a job, or a home, really a horrible sequence of life events, TD finds himself in Boston without a plan. After some friendly advice he ends up stumbling across an unusual job recommendation that for two weeks of work will give him enough money to figure things out for a bit. Oddly enough the job ends up being in Purgatory.......and Purgatory ends up being real. Working a job with victims of Greek gods past as well as a few other dead souls leaves TD with a few existential questions, but plenty of fire to protect all of these souls from the Greek gods continuing wrath.

Lonnie is one such soul stuck in Purgatory. He lived in a time when he could have possibly come out as gay, but wasn't sure about it. He thinks that indecision is what landed him in Purgatory, but TD isn't so sure. One thing for sure is that Lonnie is very interested in TD, but how can a dead man fall for a live one? There is no future for them and possibly no future for Purgatory at all if they can't get their play off the ground.

This was a fun and intriguing story! Really loved how TD got to stand up to the Greek gods. It wasn't even for major things at first, sometimes even just standing up for basic rights like breaks and food. Even then he was still inquisitive, trying to figure out why Purgatory worked like it did, and what happened to the victims when the gods were done with them. TD was also very compassionate and willing to help out, sometimes even in simple ways that no one else ever imagined doing just because no one else has ever done it. The progression of what he fought for and the changes it made in everyone was a really fun story!

A teensy bit of a rushed ending (would have liked to see a bit more from Lonnie's side, not just TD's) but a really great storyline and a very fun idea!

This was a great addition to the Magic Emporium series and classic EJ Russell: Imaginative, romantic, and witty. The premise is that there is a production put on every year by members of purgatory, who put on their best show for the Greek gods in order for one member of the cast to “move on.” When the set is destroyed by some wayward gods, a very much alive human theater technician is brought in to save the day: that turns out to be TD, who immediately sees that something fishy is going on and is annoyed by the selfishness of the Greek gods.
The romantic element of the novel is between TD and an actor who died in the 1960s named Lonnie. I was a big fan of them together. Lonnie hasn’t had a chance to experience a romance before, and TD fell for him fast, despite his most recent relationship ending badly. Now, I was nervous at the beginning of the novel because I thought the premise was a bit nonsensical—a mismatch of religions with gaps in the explanation. However, since TD picked up on that too, I felt much better, and I was on the edge of my seat waiting for the “mystery” of what’s going on to be solved. I also liked the use of Greek mythology, which was a new and interesting take on an otherwise overdone theme. I was amused by the various characters’ antics and I loved watching TD stand up for everyone and Lonnie gain self confidence and find joy.
My only complaint is that I felt a little bit let down at the end. Don’t get me wrong—we get a happy ending, yay!—but I felt that I didn’t fully understand what happened at the end, or at least, I wanted to see it for myself, so it felt a bit anticlimactic. Other readers may get what happened, but I was missing a few pieces of the puzzle—I won’t get into it, because I don’t want spoilers here, but that’s the reason I deducted a star in my rating. However, overall this was a hit for me, and I highly recommend for fans of EJ Russell, fun takes on Greek mythology, and the Magic Emporium series.

The premises of this story was absolutely brilliant and original. I mean, imagine going a few floors under street level and, if you manage to get past a huge three-headed dog, to discover a theatrical production organized to entertain none other than the ancient Greek gods...

... which was precisely the situation TD got himself into.

I found the beginning of the book hilarious thanks to TD's reactions to the Magical Emporium and imagining him petting Cerberus, that he'd considered a mechanical dog, had me in fits of laughter. I have to give credit to TD, though, he adjusted to the weirdness of his predicament pretty fast. He had to work with people who've been dead for decades, if not millennia, not to mention the gods and mythological creatures, and he took everything in stride, doing his best for the success of the play. And, he was also falling hard for Lennie, a man who had a material body only for the weeks needed for the play's production.

TD and Lennie were so endearing that it was the easiest thing to completely adore them and cheer for their happiness. They always thought of others first, TD a fierce defender for the rights of the people the gods have wronged, and Lennie the silent helper and provider. One outspoken and the other shy, amazingly paired and perfect for each other.

They were just two of the people the gods have enrolled in the production. One piece of advice before starting this book: dust off your knowledge of Greek mythology. I became a good friend of Google search, looking for clues to who some of the characters were lol. But I had fun thanks to how the author included all of them in the storyline, keeping me captivated and curious about how they'd fare at the end of the book.

I loved everything about this story. It was refreshing, entertaining and romantic, and the world and characters EJ Russell have created have completely charmed me.
