Some series end. This one does as well. Meh.

It's been a couple of days since I finished this book and it's less needing time to think about what I'm trying to say than the case where I can't really bring myself to care enough to say it. These are the least fun reviews to write and make no mistake.

Books that end early are a bummer and ones that careen wildly into their conclusion as a consequence are a double bummer. I don't know if that was the case here (perhaps it was just a short series), though its truncation is rather implied during the afterword, but it just sort of feels like that the whole way through.

I will give that parts of this book are pretty funny, at times capturing the spark that I felt much more keenly during Today's Cerberus, the author's previous work. This is part of the problem, I went into this expecting something of that caliber (I really like that series) and there were some standout moments in the first volume of this series that buoyed my expectations, then it just kind of... went...

Still, wrapping this up in three volumes would be a thankless task no matter the circumstances, but they try. There is a fairly clever use of some made-up lore they throw in at the last second (that aspect of it is rather less clever) and a slight mystery, made rather redundant by having essentially only one suspect.

All sorts of rigamarole occurs, love wins the day, redemptions are had, revelations are revealed that should result in Haruka being beaten to death by the female students for the bath house story last volume, it all works out. That whole room thing from last time sort of plays into it but not in any way you haven’t seen before.

If that sounds pedestrian, you’re right. The amount of information being flung at the reader is done at a breakneck pace and it’s not super effective. The romance especially fails to impress, partially because Maruna never manages to be more than ‘generic tsundere’. Because they are in this volume I know other characters were in the book but they were all pretty stock.

They kind of try and be a little meaningful with the whole ‘sharing a goal’ message and then just swipe that out at the end for a really lame ‘most special boy in the world’ capper that is deadly dull and really eye-rolling. This book is kind of mired in things that I was tired of years ago.

Then the book has some omake that turn out to be more fun than the finale and we get my most dreaded of all extras… 50 pages of ‘this is the story that inspired this story’. I do not need to see how the manga sausage is manga made. I will say that this one has a replication of the best moment in the whole series and another one I wish they had kept.

2.5 stars - the omake earns it the obligatory rounding up. Obviously part of the problem here is me, and I recognize that, but this is still fairly standard stuff that was really hard to write about because I just didn’t think it was terribly exciting. A couple good jokes do not a stellar climax make.

I can’t really put my foot on this one but I enjoyed it and wanted more. I felt like we just rushed to the finish line, went home, took a bath and slept calling it a day. It didn’t feel fulfilling and feels like something is missing.

This is the last volume in this series and a lot of questions were answered, secrets revealed and more curiosity was developed. We finally get to see Kuze and Rinjou express their feelings for one another clearly and they get to stay together with a few bumps. Unlike the beautiful cover though, there is no wedding scene which is a bit of a disappointment. The volume also reveals a new secret which leaves the reader wanting to know more.

The volume is told in four chapters however the last chapter is a bonus chapter. The first three chapters start one day after the events of the last volume. The last chapter isn’t a continuation or an after story. It’s an alternate version of the first half of volume one with a few personality changes between the main characters and a different art style. The art in volume three is similar to the previous two volumes; highlighting character expressions and using backgrounds only when needed to add to the story.

Overall, the series was satisfying and enjoyable. I think the last volume was rushed but also a conclusive end to this series as everything patches up well. I hope we can maybe get an extra volume or side story to take a peak into Kuze and Rinjou’s future or at least the wedding which was teased on the cover. I’ll definitely be buying this for my collection as it’s a light, cute and quick read that’s great for autumn!

While much better than volume 3, it falls victim to being too short to fulfill its potential.

Art: I noticed the art would have been stronger with less dialouge. Like there are some panels that don’t need dialouge, but still have it. There’s a lot of detail in the composition for a simple style.

Character: The characters improved a lot. Haruka actually becomes a character by having an arc. And Rinjou becomes more likeable and less annoying tsundere.

Story: For a magic school story, I feel like it was lacking. There wasn’t enough magic but instead mostly focused on the leads relationship. While it was enjoyable, it is a little disappointing it wasn’t a longer story. I do like how the ending a lot. It’s very cute and heartwarming. While I think some people might believe the story’s bland or unoriginal. I think the characters’s arcs are made unique by the fantasy elements.

While I still really enjoyed this volume, it was a little disappointing after how brilliant the first two were. It feels like the series was cancelled and the author tried to round up the story really quickly in one volume. This gave it a very rushed feeling. While the ending for Maruna and Haruka was as predicted it didn't feel quite right as there was no lead up to it, so it felt a bit unnatural.
There was so much more that could have been explored in this world, it is disappointing that there won't be any more stories.
They added the original story in as an extra at the end of the volume. It was interesting to see how the characters and story were originally planned, but I much prefer the new version.

This has been one of my favourite series! I don’t normally go crazy over manga like I did with this series, I read volume 1 and then headed back as soon as I could to get the next two! Loved every bit of it and I don’t normally read romance type books or manga so it was a change so I’m glad that although there was a lot more kissing and such near the end of it (especially with the marriage proposal) it was an overload so I found it brilliant. 5/5 stars, would recommend to anyone who likes witches and a bit of romance. 👍🏻

An interesting climax with a twist that I saw coming but didn't (it's complicated). Included the original one-shot at the end. Overall a fun and magical short series that I quite enjoyed and would've happily read a few volumes longer if they'd been so inclined.

I felt this book had a good ending for all that had happened throughout the three volumes. I enjoyed it; It was cute, some parts were funny, and a lot of my questions were answered in this volume. The storyline was definitely much better and moved a bit quicker than the first two volumes as well.

The ending was cute enough, if a bit out of nowhere with the antagonist. The bonus chapter at the end that showed an earlier draft of chapter 1 made me realize we could’ve had it much worse. 😂 I appreciate the characters as they are in the story proper.

Cute series. Definitely had a few situations and a character that reminded me of The Worst Witch movie, which is one of my favorites. Loved the art style and thought this was an entertaining read.
