It was a beautiful, somewhat sad, little book. The story is a short, simple song of dinosaurs falling in love, and the illustrations are the cherry on top. Fue un pequeño libro hermoso y un poco triste. La historia es una canción simple y corta sobre dinosaurios enamorándose, y las ilustraciones son la cereza del pastel.
I'm a sucker for illustrations, and this cover really jumps out at me! My friend read this first (we work at a library) and told me a child wrote it. I'm not sure how I would have interpreted it otherwise. I think that knowledge lent a different air to the whole thing somehow. Idk if it was that, this blasted daylight savings darkness, or my own state of being the last few months, but there was an ~atmosphere~ when I was reading this.
I love that it just starts right off with "Dinosaurs eating people." It's not too disturbing because the people are SO tiny, but I did appreciate the one with a carrot on a stick dangling in front of their face.
And then right after 3 small panels one one page, "Dinosaurs in love."
Obviously, dinosaurs eat cucumber. Giant slices of cucumber. I appreciated steg acting as a cocktail skewer.
I wish falling in love--or really, two people falling in love with each other and at the same time--was actually as simple as this book makes it seem....
Well, . The shooting star and moon on the next spread are lovely.
Suddenly, there's a whole page of dinosaurs again, and I wonder where we're going with the story...
This book is based on the internet "sensation" of a 3 year old singing a song about dinosaurs, and it shows. the illustrations are beautiful, but the plot is nonexistent and confusing. This is maybe one of the worse story books that I've ever seen.
Five stars for Fenn. How could I rate this any less? Hannah Jacobs does a great job of bringing Fenn’s song to life with cure and emotional illustrations. I love the letter from her father and interview at the end.
I saw this book on TikTok with the accompanying song and immediately knew I needed this book in my life. Such an adorable little song/book yet with an immense depth between the lines, and an ending that tore my heart open.
Ok...I really hate to hate on this book, as it was apparently written by a 3-year-old, but...you can definitely tell it was written by a 3-year-old. I’ve never seen the video it stemmed from. I’m sure it’s adorable. Not everything that’s adorable in video form works well as a picture book, however. To be 100% honest, it irks me just a little that some people put their hearts into writing really excellent stories that are passed over by publishers, and something like this gets the green-light. Anyway. End rant.
This book was written by a 3 year old and has absolutely no plot, depth, or value. It’s cute in a way that a small child wrote it though, and the illustrations are fun. I gave it a 2 star rating based on the lack of value for our home library, but my kids thought it was hilarious.
This was going to be 1 star until I read the note at the end explaining that the story was made up by a three-year-old, and my rating went up a little. I vaguely remember making up nonsense stories myself when I was around that age and my mom kindly wrote a few of them down for me.
I didn’t care for this book. I understand it was written by a little kid, but I just didn’t think it flowed well enough. The illustrations were fun though.
Dinosaurs in Love by Fenn Rosenthal – Have you ever listened to a tiny reader narrate a book before they can actually read? Someone illustrated their child’s stream of consciousness dinosaur ramblings, and I laughed like a loon! Happy Reading!
