Some days I kick life in the ass. Other days it kicks back.
On a good day, wearing the Fianna mark tosses me into topsy-turvy trials. It’s a scramble but I manage to hold it together with the help of amazing family and friends: mythical, magical, and mortal.
But despite best-laid plans, collateral damage occurs.
I can live with me getting hurt but watching someone I love suffer—not so much. Is there any limit to where I’d go or who I’d face off against?
No. There isn’t.
On a quest to save life and love, and with no time to spare, I take on a world of dragons, gnomes, witches, and trolls. Out of my depths and against a power that can snap me like a twig, there’s only one thing I know for sure…
Failure is not an option.
Fiona continues her journey to becoming the druid she’s destined to be in this sixth installment of the Chronicles of the Urban Druid. Don’t miss a moment of this rollicking ride.

I love this series and binge read all the books in a few days back in January when I stumbled upon them. The characters are spicy, the family adorable, and the world building is great, but in this book it went so many places that I wasn’t sure where the authors were taking us. Honestly, just the first quest only (with Dart) could have been a whole book in itself. Instead the part it played felt a tad rushed and the fallout with the Irish faction could have been a great ending but instead was dealt with quickly before the gang were off on another case. So because of the three rushed adventures (which could have each been books in their own right! ☹️) I’m left feeling a little disappointed. However the hook for the next book was well played and I can’t wait to read what happens next.
The druids will have each other's backs, and settle the care of the land, and her people.
These characters, in the books, whether clan Cumhail, or their added friends and family, or Tribe, make my day. They're not always politically correct, or even at their boy scout best, but they're realistically real. None of us are 100% all of the time, and we never win 100% of the time, but most authentically good persons try to do the best we can, for ourselves and others, with what we're given. We may be handed a bad deal, but what we do with it, that's what shows who we really are. There's also, definately in each character, the humor, sarcasm, sacrifice, luv, pride, fierce loyalty, sexual charisma, and ability to endure to the end. Endurance with, if not a joyful, but a can do attitude, that our Tribe has found, makes all the difference in our own lives.
These books have been a refuge for my sister and I during the last few months, that we've sorely needed. Whether it was a part of the story about loss, personal sacrifice, dating, falling in love, falling out of like, protecting the land, and of course, magic, duh!! It has helped a lot. Whether it was because we have all been in isolation, due to COVID 19, while spread over several states. Or that some of our family members have been ill...some with COVID, some with complications from surgery, some due to a family genetic disorder, and we couldn't be there in person. We have received it, and would like to say thank you, to you guys. My own personal, and my sisters, writing has never been anything this grand, but our Celtic heritage, and our cultural experiences, have made it easy to relate to. For that, you deserve an Oh Henry bar 😉
This felt like two separate novellas that were republished as a single book. The first half focuses on breaking the hex that is plaguing Sloan. The second half focuses on Team Trouble and their first "big" case.
Half of a book without Sloan and Nikon was a bit boring for lack of a better word. At least we got some page time with Dart! I love that "little" blue dragon. Dart and Bruin really put in some work while helping Dillian and Fi in the Fae Realm. I'll probably be alone here, but the whole fae realm plot was a little anticlimactic. Yes, battles happen. Centaurs die. The good guys win; again. But still it was missing something.
Each time she says to the bat cave, this is all that ran through my mind.
Enter Team Trouble. Again, this half seemed more like a short story to introduce the new workings on the newly formed team. Sloan and Fi are sent out to see if the unicorn sighting is real and if so, handle it. Over the course of their "investigation" they meet new friends. Imagine that. The ending also seemed abrupt and again, reminded me of a novella where the reader will go back to the main story in the next book.
I didn't hate it, but I still love this series and all the characters. But I continue to think of this book as two and bother together just felt lackluster. I cannot wait for book 7. I need more of Team Trouble and to see what happens with the McKenzies.
3.5 stars, but rounded up to 4 because I love the series.
A Druid Hexed is the sixth book in the Chronicles of an Urban Druid series by Michael Anderle and Auburn Tempest.
The decline continues. Honestly, ending the book focusing on the cases the Trouble Team will face highlights the potential wasted. In much the same fashion touching base back with the wizards in book five felt trivial, experiencing the annoyance that is Moira was the same. I was excited for some Dart quality time, based on the cover, but similarly was left unfulfilled in that department. Along with how Fi and Dillan’s time in the Fae realm went. It was all rather lacking.
This series has been slowly losing its appeal and the only factor keeping me through til the end was solely focused on discovering the many outcomes for all of the characters I’ve come to love personal lives. So Anderle and Tempest have a lock of building truly compelling characters and constructing an enriching world. But maybe carrying the world through such a long and perilous series became to be too much?
I’m hoping book seven will reaffirm my enjoyment and connection to this series. It’s rather annoying that for two whole books they entirely missed the opportunity to explore Emmett’s new powers. Along with many other chances to broaden this with much more intriguing arcs. And I’m starting to feel really b*tchy the more I think about it, so I’m gonna step away from this review now.
I had to read something new and decided on this series. I was hooked immediately for the record. I really planned on writing a review after the first book but went directly into each book afterward and just couldn't stop myself. I love how each book picks up immediately from the previous one. I work night shift as a nurse and am recovering from surgery...guess what I have been doing. I got so caught up into this series that I want a part in this family. I absolutely love this family, biological and chosen. The moments I have cried laughing while attempting to not wake my sleeping husband are during these readings are too numerous to mention but I must say the one with Emmett in the woods was a mental picture that will still set me off. I never want this series to end! I fell in love with them and cannot wait to continue the story. Thank you so much for giving life, laughter, love, adventure, history and all the not mentioned to this series.
3.5 but rounded up because of where Fi goes and what she does.
I did something different with this series and read the book’s synopsis. Having done that, it wasn’t too hard to guess what would happen as I read along. I can’t tell if I prefer that or reading in blind. It certainly hits different and seems less chaotic.
The series is changing and I like that. Morphing is always cool. Looks like they’re going to be a little more on the team side (spoilers sorry).
Sloan’s parents are… a lot. Almost to the point of a headache. But I’m glad she always stands up for herself. Sad she has to risk her life when no one else will just to prove it. On that note, some “arguments” seemed to go on needlessly but it could’ve just been Janet lol. I think some things were funny. Tiny errors here. Some parts were cool. Love the dragons.
I think there was a lot of winding to get to the end and I’m curious as to how they’ll come back to them.
I love this series. I left it for a while, too many books in my TBR pile, but have come back for my fix with the knowledge that I don’t have to wait to read the next few. Fi, Sloan, her family and the other magical enforcers, are starting to get their ducks in a row in Canada. But there are still things going on with Ireland. Imbolc is upon them so a number of them pop over to join their Irish family at the Imbolc feast. Of course, nothing is ever that easy anymore. Fi’s family has a ‘magical’ relationship of love that binds them together but not all Druids are that lucky; or other magical or mundane families for that matter. But these books, hopefully, show people what the power of love can achieve. If you like reading about Druids, shifters, witches, Fae and other paranormal beings then you’ll love this series.
I really enjoy this series. The characters, the jokes, and the created world are all engaging. I like to read paranormal and fantasy books but it can be hard to find something that really works for me without it being to young or steamy. Don’t get me wrong I don’t mind a sex scene every once in a while but in this genre the more adult books can at times have them every other page, and then on the YA side I find I get frustrated by the heroine always becoming less strong as they gather friends or a love interest. You won’t find that in this series though. The series has a perfect balance of romance, family, funniness, and action/mystery. I look forward to each new book and to see what else the author has to offer. Give it a try:)
It’s a new year and the Empowered Ones now have a human member for the newly formed crisis management committee. After being security vetted, Deputy Commissioner John Maxwell needs to be briefed on the facts of the other world, but he’s still not completely trusted and being carefully watched.
Plus, just when things start going nicely for Fiona and Slone they discover that the bad witches are not done with Slone yet. Healing him leads them on a trip to the fae realm.
I like how after the main story is over Fiona and Slone are sent on assignment for Team Trouble for the Empowered. It’s very cool.
Fave scenes: Team Trouble, Fiona’s hallucination, Dart to the rescue and Amari’s new pet.
I love Fi and all of her gang. This book I thought was a little bit slow, but it didn’t finally pick up until closer to the middle and the end. Like the other books, Fi has a lot of things going at once. The main thing in the story that she’s having to deal with is having to go to the phi realm to get the witches DNA that cast the hex on her boyfriend. One of her brothers wants to go with her, but she shut him down, and it caused a little bit of strife between the two of them. She took one of her older brothers, and apparently they also had a stowaway. I like the way that she dealt with the problem with the witch, even though the witch tried to trick her to take her back to the human realm. I will definitely be reading the next book in the series.
Yes, I can definitely agree that 6 books and maybe even 9 books will not be enough! I am absolutely loving Fiona, the Clan and The Guild and how they come together to combat evil and fight for those they care about. Poor Fiona, going from one situation to the next, but one thing you can count on, is that she will have the back of her loved ones and will go to all extremes to protect them. This was excellently executed and dragged me in from the first chapter and kept me thoroughly entertained to the very end with many a laugh out loud moments. Now to try and patiently wait for the next book in the series.
LOVE this whole series! I can't even begin to tell how much I love these books - I have not been disappointed by a single volume, and while I could go into detail, I won't: because it shouldn't be spoiled!
These are light, while also being engaging, edge of your seat, funny and heartwarming ALL at the same time. The endings are not always happy, everyone does not always get their way, things are not always roses, life is - well, life. But that's the beauty of it! These stories allow you to feel ALL the emotions, but do not stop to let you wallow in any single emotional space.
There’s always trouble with Fiona Cumhaill around, and she is beginning to question just what and why... In the meantime, she has a hex to get rid of, and that means a dangerous adventure.
Book six carries on the series, meaning you need to read the other five first! As with the others, it’s fast paced, over-the-top action, and magic-filled entertainment. An enjoyable series, with a larger than life family, and plenty of fantasy elements. Recommended for urban fantasy fans.
I just binged through the first six books in the series and enjoyed them completely. Basic story line is a very closely knit family discovers they are druids. What follows is six different adventures. The characters only developed their Druidic powers. They remain a very close and loving family who basically remain the same people. And there is nothing wrong with that. Really looking forward to book 7 next month. Hope the series continues for a long time. Recommended.
I gave three stars, but wanted to give more. The characters and plot are excellent in this book. However, I'm confused by the use of American slang. This story is set in Canada. The use of slang is uncomfortable to read. It's like the kid who try's way too hard to sound cool. Also, the constant repeating of the back story feels like you had a word count to make. I stopped reading Mr Anderson books due to the constant repeating of the back story. We readers are smarter than you think.
I've always enjoyed paranormal books and this series is one of the best so far. I like the fact that once the family found out they were druids they jumped right in to fighting for good. There are plenty of other paranormal creatures in the series and there is plenty of action and humor in the books. I am looking forward to the next book and hope the series continues for a long time.
The further adventures. Really like the rescue in faerie land with Emmet, mama dragon, and 22 dragonettes, but the tune chosen was priceless. chumbawumba. Add in a unicorn, a beginning of clearing of the air with Sloan and his parents. Like the batcave, the concept of the magical team to handle issues, and working from 2 different continents. Will continue with this series.
Another good read. I’m enjoying this series immensely. I only gave 4 stars to book 5 because it didn’t have the continuity of the earlier books. Lots of action, interesting stories, still good characters and continued development of the main characters. Still, this book had several plot lines that were ended within the story while loosely connected by a subplot that carried over from the previous book. Nothing that prevents the enjoyment of the overall series but noticeable.
This is for the series as a whole, versus the specific book. What I love most about this series is the interplay (and I do mean play) between the siblings. Coming from a large family myself, the Cumhaill’s banter is very familiar. The inside jokes, movie scripting, non sequitur comments, and song lyric references show that these authors know how siblings interact. It makes the reading fun!
We finally get to see Dart in action but it’s so very little and he’s gone again. There’s… three?? Separate quests in the book. Yeah, you read that right. It was all a bit crammed in. Felt a little lacking in some places and over written in others. I only laughed out loud once this time. And with the previous humor, that’s a pretty big hit. I hope it’s a one time dud. Fingers crossed!
This entry finally bumped it up from a 3-3.5* rating to a 4*. I think it was a combination of the realism of some familial emotions & relationships (and the pettiness often entwined with them) and the gullibility of Fi when presented with a con. Pat, fluffy characters are a fun escape for a bit, but don't really make a book memorable for me - give me a character with some grit they've earned, some armor-plating I've watched them grow through hardship.
Just for the record, I hated Book Five in this series. I almost didn't/couldn't finish it. I just found it ugly and grotesque.
However, this is a review of Book Six. The familial relationships were back on track as well as expansion of plots. I enjoyed cheering everybody on once again and look forward to Book Seven the end of April, 2021.
Sloan is having stomach trouble after being kidnapped after being treated by patty ( having the bugs literally pushed out) he feels better but no one realizes they are totally gone along with a few hair raising incidences things have to play out and A Unicorn comes out to play
A little too much going on in this book of the series. I wish the author would stick with more info about 1-2 "issues" than 4-5. Things felt rushed and unfinished a few times. It felt like running from fire to fire instead of more explanation that would have given the storyline a bit more depth. I'm enjoying the character growth and continue to love the family dynamics.
First written review on the series. Fiona, Bruin the Bear, her family, her man, baby dragons, and all her cooky friends are great fun. I like that the written is not so descriptive that I fall asleep while reading. I've read these six books in four days, while working more than a full time job. Pick this up I won't be disappointed.
A Druid Hexed, book six of the Chronicles of an Urban Druid series, is an ebook I borrowed through Kindle Unlimited (KU). This storyline is so darned imaginative, and the writers have maintained a wonderful pace throughout these first books. You can never tell what happens next, as these characters are so unpredictable. And funny.
I can't wait until the next book 😁 I really like the way the past experiences of the characters are included. Really great series. Fiona, makes me feel like she is a Stephanie plum with druid powers 💛💛
Sloane is still hexed with festerbugs. Fiona has to go on a life treatening quest to cancel the hex. A few plot twists occur. Makes for an interesting story with plenty of room for more.
Fi and the gang are up against GNARLY bad guys!!! As always lol. SO freaking awesome!, (also as always) Auburn Tempest is yet another GENIUS author Michael has brought to the group for which I'm very grateful Howard S (the S stands for Super Fan)
