Liz Talbot Mystery #10

Lowcountry Boughs of Holly

Rate this book
Length: 7 hrs and 29 mins

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, but Private Investigator Liz Talbot is struggling to feel festive. She hasn’t seen her best friend, Colleen, in weeks and fears she may never see her again in this life. Meanwhile Nate, Liz’s husband and partner, is spending money like he prints it in the attic on a mysterious family Christmas celebration. Liz’s nerves are shot, and she hasn’t even decked a single hall. But there’s simply no time to fret.

On a morning beach run, Liz spots a wooden rowboat run aground with Santa inside. Did Old Saint Nick have too much eggnog at the boat parade? No indeedy—Santa’s been shot. And he’s none other than C.C. Bounetheau, patriarch of one of Charleston’s wealthiest families.

Liz and Nate already unwrapped quite a few family secrets while searching for the Bounetheau’s missing granddaughter last year—enough to make them swear to steer forever clear of the entire clan. But as Mr. Bounetheau’s body is found in Stella Maris, and Liz and Nate are the police chief’s on-call detectives, they’re on the case.

With no shortage of suspects, Liz and Nate dash to find a killer who may be working his or her way down a naughty list.

Spend Christmas in the Lowcountry with the Talbot family and their friends in Susan M. Boyer’s latest Southern charmer, Lowcountry Boughs of Holly. Tis the season for merry mayhem!

Trigger warning: Rape

Wow. From a great high to a great low. There was a lot wrong in this book and some of it I will get into in the spoiler tags below. But the biggest issue I have is that Boyer undid things that made the series go into a new direction that was interesting. I think she could have waited a bit if that's what the ultimate goal was. And I honestly think that based on what is shown, no one learned a blessed thing so who cares.

"Lowcountry Boughs of Holly" follows Liz Talbot who is feeling a bit blue around Christmas. Liz has lost her best friend Colleen (again) after the events in the last book. Colleen interfered with another case of Liz and Nate, saved Nate, and then disappeared. Liz is scared she will neve see Colleen again. She's also stressed out because Nate has planned a vacation for her and her whole family to a place he won't tell them about. He also came up with the money (more than $20,000) to repair their home. Liz is worried once again how Nate is able to spend so much with so much ease. Things get put on the back burner though when Liz finds a dead Santa in a boat one morning while running. The dead man leads Liz back to a case and a group of people she would have been happy to never run into again, see Lowcountry Boneyard.

Liz has a right to feel stressed in this book. She has lost Colleen, her husband is keeping something from her, and she's thrown back into a pack of murderous people she met on a prior case. The ending of Lowcountry Boneyard was dark and there were some loose threads to tie up there, so it was satisfying to see them tied up by the end of this one.

That said, the book just blew apart several characters and their development. I also loathed that the book did not call what was done to someone rape. It just started to irk my soul. I know this is a cozy mystery, but don't throw that into the book, and keep calling it something else. I ended up absolutely despising several people by the end of this one.

I read this book for Door 1: Winter Solstice

There is nothing quite as entertaining as reading the latest book in the Liz Talbot Mystery Series by author Susan M. Boyer. Lowcountry Boughs of Holly - book # 10 in this beloved Lowcountry series - certainly has everything that I have come to expect and enjoy in a Liz Talbot Mystery.

The story’s setting is the historic city of Charleston, SC and the fictional Island of Stella Maris. There is
no shortage of suspense, adventure, and surprise; of darkness and intrigue; of many potential suspects coupled with many possible motives for the crime in question; and, as always, there is the clever and most thorough investigative work of husband and wife PI team - Liz Talbot and Nate Andrews. And, the crime in question is MURDER!

Lowcountry Boughs of Holly is sprinkled with great humor, holiday fun, and family bonding. There is a lot of heart and hearth offered at the holiday table of Liz’s endearing family. Liz’s daddy’s spirited behavior and latest antics include a reindeer borrowed from a local petting farm. The reindeer’s presence and elusiveness not only lends humor to the story, but also, lends a mystical element throughout the story.

Nate’s big surprise - a family Christmas holiday vacation - is right around the corner. But, as the holiday fast approaches Liz and Nate have become part of a murder investigation. Who would kill the patriarch of one of Charleston’s wealthiest and aristocratic families?

Liz found the body of C.C. Bounetheau, the patriarch - dressed as Santa. His is a family that has had its share of sadness in the recent past - a family that has many secrets - and a family that includes devious family members. Was C.C. Bounetheau’s murder the result of a random burglary? Or, was it a more sinister plot orchestrated by one or more members of the family?

Thank you to author Susan M. Boyer and the publisher for allowing me to read an advanced copy of
Lowcountry Boughs of Holly. These thoughts and words are mine.

Silent night.

Holy night.
All is calm...until Santa ends up with a slug in his chest.

This was a nice little trip to book land.

It wasn't as action-packed or intense as previous ones, and there was more of the annoying protective stuff than usual but, all in all, it made for a nice reading/listening experience.

We catch up with the Talbots at Christmas time.

Nate is planning a surprise trip, Liz is worried about money and really missing Colleen, Blake and Poppy are struggling to find an affordable home in time for their baby's arrival, and Frank "Daddy" Talbot is up to his usual antics.

We also catch up with the matriarch from hell , one who has proven time and again that she will do anything and destroy anyone who threatens her family.

Well, Liz and Nate are about to "threaten" her family in a huge way, seeing as the patriarch of said family is now on a slab.

As the mystery unfolds, an outrageous and heartbreaking backstory emerges, one that could blow the bottom out of several lives and completely destroy others.

All in all, I'd recommend this one to cozy fans , but I can't say it was a heart pounder. Three stars.

IT’S THE (AL)MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR!

This is Susan M. Boyer at her BEST! She provides readers with everything they’ve come to look forward to in her books. She has an engaging plot, heartwarming scenes involving Liz’s family, humorous anecdotes involving her Daddy and one of his “clever ideas,” learning about Liz’s Mother’s over-the-top Christmas decorations and the descriptions of her fabulous Christmas Meals and Liz’s husband and business partner Nate Andrews is planning a two week Mystery Christmas Vacation for everyone. While almost everyone is busy preparing for the “Most Wonderful Time of the Year,” there is at least one person who did not stop with the normal Switches and Ashes in their Gift Bag. They plan to ruin Christmas and have packaged pure Malice and have an intricate plan to carry out their mayhem. Leave it to Liz to find a washed up rowboat containing the body of a dead Santa. This Santa is not just a random Santa, rather one who happens to be C.C. Bounetheau, patriarch of one of Charleston’s wealthiest families!! The Bounetheau Family is filled with lies, deceit, cheating, drugs, felonies, extortion, blackmail and so much more! Obviously that makes trying to solve whodunnit a bit more challenging. Liz and Nate have many ideas of ways to get more information on each potential perpetrator. Boyer provides readers with an intriguing mystery and deftly places all the pieces of the puzzle together. As Liz and Nate are finishing their last minute packing to go on their Mystery Christmas Vacation, they are surprised by yet another deterrent to their future! After taking care of business and both receiving a huge Christmas surprise, Nate surprises Liz with an unforgettable 1st Anniversary Gift! The ending is SPECTACULAR! This book is truly a Christmas Gift from Boyer to her loyal readers!

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book by Henery Press and the author. The opinions expressed here are completely my own and without influence.

What a wonderful way to start the holidays! Ms. Boyer has done it again! I think this is my favorite one in the series so far (of course I may say that about each new one added!). I was raised in Mt. Pleasant, SC, right across the Inland Waterway from where Stella Maris would be. Every time I read one of these books, I think of home. All of the places that she describes are so familiar to me, in one way or another. She is such a great descriptive writer. Once I pick up her books, I can’t put them down until the end! If you like good mysteries, close family and friends, the beach and anything Southern, then you need to pick up Book #1 and read this series!

When Liz Talbot and her husband investigate the death of one of Charleston's wealthiest men, there's no shortage of suspects.

Boyer dishes up plenty of humor in this fast-paced cozy mystery. Fun characters. Vivid descriptions. Plenty of twists. Lots of Christmas spirit.

A thoroughly-engaging holiday read.

Thank you Susan M. Boyer and publisher for allowing me to read an advanced copy of Lowcountry Boughs of Holly #10 in the Liz Talbot series. These are my own words and opinions.
Another awesome book in this series. Liz and Nate are approaching their first anniversary and Nate is going to take Liz's entire family on a Christmas vacation. Liz is wondering and stressing on how Nate could afford that. But she just put that aside and enjoyed the Christmas boat parade. She had to be on the city council's boat. Her daddy was also on the boat and he dressed up as Santa Claus complete with a reindeer. There are Santa Claus's everywhere. And the only thing to ruin the Christmas cheer was a murder.
The twists and turns in solving the murder keep you reading to find out.....who shot Santa.
I couldn't put the book down till I finished it.
Definitely a 5 star book and well worth reading.

Return to Stella Maris and Charleston on the South Carolina coast for a holiday mystery in book number ten of the Liz Talbot series. If you enjoyed the other books in this series, Lowcountry Boughs of Holly will be a wonderful new addition your holiday season reading.

Join Liz and Nate as they investigate a mysterious death after a Christmas parade. Get reacquainted with familiar characters from Liz’s family and other Stella Maris residents and meet new ones. Immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of Charleston and surrounding areas, and savor delicious meals.

I have recommended the first nine books in this series to family and friends who like cozy mysteries, humorous Southern characters, and chick lit with a touch of romance. I will not hesitate to recommend Lowcountry Boughs of Holly too.

I am always ready for a new adventure with Liz Talbot and Nate! Susan Boyer’s Lowcountry Boughs of Holly #10 in the series is a winner. We all need to lost in a book these days with COVID and this light hearted Christmas mystery is just what I needed! Santa’s running all over the place...but one ends up dead. A surprise relative, a wife who cant be trusted, twin brothers are on the suspect list. Who done it at its best. I loved these characters and this book! I highly recommend Lowcountry Boughs of Holly!

I absolutely adore this series and Boughs of Holly kicked up the charm a notch. The Lowcountry is a beautiful place, but at the holidays it is positively magical. I love that Susan M. Boyer is able to capture this essence in such detail.

In this installment, Nate and Liz are on another investigation that is crazier than any other. A dead "Santa Claus" is found on Stella Maris and chaos ensues.

I find the entire series to be a perfect combination of mystery, humor, romance, and light hearted fun. I can wait to see what happens next!

This is another series that I’ve enjoyed right from the start, and I’m glad there’s at least one more book left to read. I love Liz and Nate, the MCs, and the way their friends and family are there for them. The island of Stella Maris sounds wonderful most of the time, but it would take some adjustments to get used to relying on the ferry to get off/on the island.

As usual in these books, the mystery is well-done, with several potential suspects to consider for the murder. Although there was a large pool to think about, I suspected the person who was ultimately revealed as the killer, and the motive made sense for that character.

Nate’s reveal at the end of the book wasn’t entirely unexpected, as several hints were dropped during the course of the book, and it will be interesting to see how it comes into play in future books in the series.

A fantastic book of love mystery and Christmas cheer

I used to have a home on Isle of Palms @Wild Dunes. We sold it when my husband lost his job. I love it there especially Sullivan's a nd Isle of Palms. Wild Dunes got much to large to enjoy so your story of keeping your island to grow and get to large it's a great idea. More money can wreck a place that was loved for its original smallness and character. This book was great I read it straight thru.
Thanks a bunch for a great read.

Lowcountry Boughs of Holly by Susan M. Boyer
Review by Maureen Abbott Sprunger

‘Tis the season, deck the halls, jingle bells – only not so fast, this year the season just doesn’t feel like it has in the past. This is Liz Talbot’s feeling in Lowcountry Boughs of Holly, Susan M. Boyer’s latest Liz Talbot mystery. And, it is perfect for Christmas 2020. Things just feel different this year. And mystery author Susan M. Boyer weaves the current feelings and anxieties into her latest novel featuring private investigators Liz Talbot and her husband Nate Andrews.

Liz and Nate live on the island Stella Maris in South Carolina. It is a made-up place, but a place we’d all love to visit and perhaps move to one day because of the way Susan Boyer shares its history and its secrets. The same main characters appear in each book progression and some from previous stories appear in the next mystery. As you read the series, you get to know these folks in a neighborly kind of way.

In Lowcountry Boughs of Holly, Liz is in a kind of funk over the pending holidays and some of the recent activities of her much-loved husband and partner-in-business Nate. Nate has announced to the family which consists of Liz, her parents (a couple of characters), Liz’s sister and brother-in-law, and Liz’s Brother Blake (the Stella Maris chief of police) and his pregnant wife Poppy, to get ready for a Christmas surprise, and pack and get ready for a trip to a surprise destination. This only adds to the befuddled feelings Liz and her siblings are feeling. It is also important to introduce another very important reoccurring character – Colleen – the guardian spirit of Stella Maris and Liz’s best friend from high school who took her own life at a very low point when they were teenagers. Colleen is in each of the mysteries and is key to understanding the place they all love and call home – Stella Maris.

Then, out on her daily run, Liz discovers a dead body dressed in a Santa suit, too. (Oh no! Will this keep the family from being able to head out on Nate’s surprise vacation?) Liz and Nate consult with the Stella Maris Police Department on an as-needed basis. It turns out the deceased and his family have been on the Stella Maris scene before even though they are from Charleston. People mainly steer clear of them. There are hints of organized crime and other murders and shady dealings crossing the generations of this family.

Police Chief Blake needs his sister Liz and Nate to take this case (as consultants to the Stella Maris Police Department) and solve this mystery before Christmas. And so, Liz and Nate are on it! The story weaves its way in an out of Stella Maris families. Four people confess to the murder. Lots of lawyers are involved. Why would anyone confess to a murder they did not commit? Liz and Nate uncover so many pathways to murder and of course, ultimately the real murderer is discovered. It’s a surprise, or is it? So, the murder of the dead Santa is ultimately solved but the other mystery remains alive – where is Nate taking the family for Christmas and how can he afford to do this?

I particularly loved that there were two parallel stories going throughout Lowcountry Boughs of Holly. And although it may sound corny, this story did help move me from my Christmas funk to excited to welcome Christmas 2020.

Lowcountry Boughs of Holly is the perfect way to kick off your holiday season!

It may be Christmas time, but Southern Sleuth, Liz Talbot is having a hard time finding reasons to be jolly. Her husband and PI partner, Nate, is planning a Christmas surprise she's not sure they can afford, her best friend Colleen is nowhere to be found, and to top it off, Santa is found dead in her small island town of Stella Maris! When it turns out that Santa is someone they crossed paths with on an old case, Liz and Nate are working overtime to figure out who would want him dead before they take off for their holiday plans.

Santa's naughty list of potential suspects keeps getting longer as the duo check every lead twice while juggling family secrets, trying to stay safe without Colleen watching their backs, and Liz's daddy's latest shenanigan- a stubborn reindeer named Claude.

In Lowcountry Boughs of Holly, Susan M. Boyer delivers her usual combination of witty writing, and compelling suspense with the added bonus of festive fun! As always, our favorite cast of eccentric locals, and Liz's zany, but lovable family are along for the (sleigh) ride. So, clear your calendar and grab a snack, because you won't want to put this one down!

I can't recommend the entire Lowcountry Mystery Series highly enough. Each installment is truly better than the last! Every new case takes you on an adventure through the incredible town of Charleston and nearby (fictional) island of Stella Maris that will have you planning your next vacation to the Lowcountry.

*Thank you to Susan M. Boyer and Henrey Press for granting my request for an advanced copy of this book. All opinions and thoughts on this book are entirely my own.

Lowcountry Boughs of Holly is the tenth book in award winning author Susan M. Boyer’s Liz Talbot mysteries. Private detectives Liz Talbot and her husband and partner Nate Andrews have an agreement with the small Stella Maris police department to investigate crimes on the island. When a wealthy Charlestonian dressed in a Santa suit is found dead after the annual Stella Maris holiday boat parade, they are called into service.

As the victim is identified as C. C. Bounetheau, who Liz and Nate had had contentious dealings with in the past, they are wise to be extra careful as his sociopathic wife, Abigail, had tried to have them killed before. However, it was thought that Abigail wouldn’t harm C.C. due to the Abigail Clause in his will stating if he died of other than natural causes she would be disinherited unless proven not guilty. In order to keep Abigail from harming them, Liz let’s Abigail’s people think that the death was as a result of a robbery gone wrong to buy them time to actually investigate.

In doing so, they uncover the depth of family intrigue and depravation of the Bounetheau family, ultimately jailing four folks who confess, and missing two who should. In addition to a wonderful mystery, we have the background story of the Talbot family unfold, the antics of the Stella Maris residents, a flying reindeer, and sparkles.

Susan M. Boyer has outdone herself in this wonderful holiday mystery. With wonderfully rich characters and a twisting plot, together with unexpected revelations, this story may well be the best of the series. I very much enjoyed this book and I do recommend it!

Lowcountry Boughs of Holly is my new favorite book in the Liz Talbot mystery series by Susan Boyer. It has everything including a flying reindeer! The morning after the annual Christmas boat parade on the island of Stella Maris, Liz Talbot, a private investigator, finds the body of a dead Santa Claus in a wooden rowboat washed up on the beach. Upon closer inspection, she realizes the deceased Santa is C.C. Bounetheau, the patriarch of one of Charleston's wealthiest and sinister families. Even worse, it was clear that Bounetheau had been murdered.

Since Liz and her husband and partner, Nate, are on contract as detectives for Stella Maris, they are charged with finding the murderer. Did a random mugger shoot C.C. for his money and valuables? Did someone kill C.C. for some unknown transgression? Or did one or more of his family members collude in his murder for financial reasons?

Liz and Nate dive into the case and find no end of possible suspects. Can they figure out the motive and stop the murderer before someone else is killed?

In addition to a five-star murder mystery, Lowcountry Boughs of Holly bring back a wonderful cast of old friends and one scheming enemy. The surprise ending is phenomenal! I highly recommend Lowcountry Boughs of Holly. It's a stand-alone book, but I think you'd enjoy reading the entire Liz Talbot mystery series.

I'd like to thank the publisher and the author for an advanced review copy of Lowcountry Boughs of Holly. All opinions and thoughts are my own.

Doesn't everyone spend their Christmas on a gorgeous island filled with beautiful decorations, scrumptious food, quirky residents, a basset hound, a reindeer and an abundance of Santa's ? Oh, I did leave out one other important detail... a murder to solve before Christmas. If your answer is no, let me tell you how to join in the merriment and mayhem. Grab a copy of Susan Boyer's latest book, Boughs of Holly. This is the 10th book in the Low Country, Liz Talbot Mysteries. Possibly my favorite!

Stella Maris Island, SC, is a fictitious island located off of the coast of Charleston, SC. It is home to Investigators Liz Talbot and her husband Nate. The island residents have just celebrated Christmas festivities. Everything was perfect...until a body is found on the shore the following morning. Follow along with Liz and Nate as they travel to Charleston and Edisto Island tracking down leads. There are so many twists and turns, I loved every minute of it.

Susan has an amazing talent for delivering vivid, relatable descriptions of Liz's hilarious family, island residents and all characters in the book. I laughed out loud at some of their shenanigans, especially at Liz's Dad.

I highly recommend you spend the holidays with Liz Talbot and family. There are a few surprises at the end that will leave you with a warm heart and a smile on your face. Thank you Susan Boyer for this wonderful book. Happy Holidays!

Thank you to the author and publisher for allowing me an advanced reader copy. All thoughts are my own.

Lowcountry Boughs of Holly is such a good book, that once started, I could not stop reading. Beginning with the first in this series, Lowcountry Boil, I fell in love with Liz, her truly southern mother, her quirky and extremely funny and loveable father, the rest of her family and the residents of Stella Maris, the fictitious island off the coast of Charleston, South Carolina. In this latest, and last book in the series, we find a Christmas boat parade, more than one Santa, a reindeer and one Santa murdered on Stella Maris. Nate and Liz need to get to the bottom of this for Liz's brother, the police chief on Stella Maris, before they can leave for a Christmas celebration that Nate has planned as a surprise for the entire family. Missing Colleen, Liz struggles to get in the spirit of Christmas. The wealthy Bounetheau family reappears in this book, and Liz finds herself once again in the presence of the formidable matriarch of the family.

You will find historical places, authentic restaurants and menus, and locations in the Charleston area that you will want to visit. It is easy to find yourself being a part of this wonderful city, spending time at the various places Susan Boyer describes so well in this series. thank you to the author and publisher, Henerey Press for sending me an advanced review copy. All of the comments expressed are entirely my own.....I have loved this entire series, eagerly awaiting each new book. I can only look forward to Susan's next writings and rereading all the previous books in this series.

Pure holiday magic! Lowcountry Boughs of Holly is the 10th in the Liz Talbot Mystery series by Susan M. Boyer, and is one of my favorite series. However, if this series is new to you, I recommend that you begin with earlier books in the series. It would be a challenge to understand the entire back story for new readers and there are several developments that would be “spoilers” for previous books in the series.

Lowcountry Boughs of Holly begins with a Christmas boat parade in Stella Maris, a holiday festival, and the subsequent murder of one of the visiting Santas. Liz and Nate realize the identity of the victim and begin investigating even though taking this case may put their lives at risk.

Sitting down with one of the Lowcountry books is like sitting down with old friends, I am immediately transported to Stella Maris and the Lowcountry as if no time at all has passed since my last “visit”. The descriptions are so finely wrought that I can visualize every scene and always feel emotionally connected to the protagonist. This book captured the magic of the holiday season while still offering a mystery that held my interest until the very last page. The “reveals”, and there are many, left me feeling satisfied and happy. Don’t hesitate - pre-order this cozy mystery today!

Lowcountry Boughs of Holly is the 10th book in Susan Boyer's Lowcountry cozy mystery series set in Stella Maris, a fictional island near Charleston. During the annual Christmas boat parade, which kicks off the island's Christmas celebration, many Santa's participated, but one is found dead after the parade. Liz & Nate are hired by Stella Maris PD to investigate who Santa was, why he was at the boat parade & how he died.

Liz & Nates 1st anniversary is just before Christmas; Nate has planned a special surprise trip for Liz & her family so the PIs work efficiently to find out who killed Santa-and there are many likely suspects! The plot twists and turns kept me guessing til the end! Susan is known for a well crafted plot set on the SC coast, oozing with southern charm. Boyer's interesting & sometimes quirky characters, especially Liz's parents, make me feel like I'm with family!

So appreciate the author and publisher for ARC I asked for & was granted to advance read of this wonderful book. Every new book release I think is "the best" because I learn more about the characters & town. Opinions and thoughts expressed here are my own. Whether this is your 1st Lowcountry series book or your 10th (as it is mine), it's guaranteed a fun read to keep you guessing til the end and put in in a holiday mindset!

Where to even start? This book was my favorite in this series, and I LOVE every one. Liz and Nate are back again in Stella Maris with another mystery on their hands. Who was the killer? Of course, it wouldn’t be a Lowcountry Boil series book without lots of antics on the part of Liz’ family and some serious laugh-out-loud moments, so be forewarned because you can sometimes get odd looks when laughing out loud in public places sitting alone. I mean, with Liz’ dad up to his usual nonsense, Liz’ mother’s reactions, one seriously rebellious reindeer, and the rest of the inhabitants of Stella Maris...well, you just can’t help it! This book is not only a great, easy read for the holidays, but it is perfect for those fans of the series who were left sad after the last book. I won’t give a single spoiler-you’ll just have to read it!!! But you will be so glad you did and you’ll be so happy again. Tied up lose ends, Christmas miracles, laughing out loud until you cry-what’s not to love?! Go get this immediately!!! It would make a great Christmas gift too!!

I want to say thank you to the author and Henery Press for my review copy of this book. All opinions and thoughts are completely my own.

Another entertaining mystery by Susan Boyer. I eagerly await every episode of Liz Talbot and family. It takes place on a fictional island Stella Maris off the coast of SC, near Charleston, in what is affectionately called the Low Country. Being born in Charleston, but not currently living there, I love the references to all the things that are Charlestonian. 2nd, I love Holiday Mysteries and this one lived up to my expectations. After the last book, things were a bit sad around Stella Maris, but this book cleared up alot of unanswered questions from previous books. From the reindeer, Claude, on a boat in the boat parade to Santas' dashing around the square, the story did not disappoint. While solving the murder, Liz, Nate and the entire family are going on a mystery vacation to celebrate the 1st anniversary of Liz and Nate's marriage. Only problem...they need to solve the murder mystery before going. This book was delightful and I enjoyed reading it.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book by Henery Press and the author. The opinions expressed here are completely my own and without influence.

Lowcountry Boughs of Holly by Susan M. Boyer is the 10th book in The Liz Talbot Mystery Series. All of the books in this series are awesome but this I believe is the best so far. Even being that this is the 10th book in the series it can very well be read as a standalone, but why miss all the friends you will make reading the rest of the series. I was drawn into this book from the beginning and did not want to put it down. This is a fast-paced mystery with plenty of twists and turns to keep you turning the pages. Just when I thought I knew who the culprit was I found out I was wrong, the ending sure was a surprise. The characters are very well developed. Lowcountry Boughs of Holly is a very well written book with a little suspense, adventure, some surprises with amazing descriptions of the people, the restaurants and of course Stella Maris. After reading this book and the series you will definitely want to take a trip to the fictional Island of Stella Maris. I highly recommend this book and the whole series you will not be disappointed. Thank you, Susan M Boyer and Henrey Press for giving me the opportunity to read and review this wonderful book.

At the end of this book I literally cried. Lowcountry Boughs of Holly is truly a gift to all Susan Boyer's loyal readers. I loved it. Though the story is a wonderful stand alone, I beg you to read from the first book of the series right up to this one.
The story is told through the eyes of the main character, Liz Talbot. Liz and her husband Nate are partners in the Private Investigating business they own. Somehow they always end up chin deep in a local murder. This time a wealthy older man, dressed in a Santa suit, is discovered shot to death in his boat on the Island Liz and her family live on. Liz and Nate are in a hurry to solve this one before they leave on a anniversary trip, with the whole family, that Nate has put together and is being very secretive about.
I highly recommend this book to readers of every genre. Plenty of mystery, small town fun, holiday activity and some romance too.
I would like to thank BookBub, Miss Susan (also for fixing everything in the end, it was a perfect story) and the publisher for an advanced review copy. All words are my own opinion.

This is a wonderfully zany cosy mystery series. The Talbot family is Southern crazy with so many delightful characters. From Liz to her Mamma, life is pretty much a laugh a minute.

This is another pivotal book in the series, with new characters and favorite ones as well. In the last book, guardian angel, Colleen was removed from working with Liz and Nate because she intervened in human affairs. It was really sad to see her go.

In this book we see Liz and Nate working through and solving a perplexing mystery. Who killed C.C. Bounetheau? Was it because of who he was or because he was dressed like Santa? So many questions and so little time to answer them as Nate is surprising everyone in the family with a get-away Christmas and time is running short on leaving.

This is a series that I have read from book one and plan to re-read my favorites again soon. This is one of the best of a set of great books and I am looking forward to see what the future holds for Liz and crew.

I was provided a digital advance reader copy of this book by the publisher via Edelweiss.

Tis the season to be jolly, especially when you're sleuthing in Stella Maris with Liz and Nate. The town is all decked out with decorations, multiple Santas, hot chocolate and a night boat flotilla including all those blinking Christmas lights! Hey, is that Rudolph? Nah, just Clyde who magically appears where he is least expected. While the duo works to solve a murder mystery, they also struggle to cope with the loss of their personal guardian angel, the antics of daddy while trying to keep momma sane, and the hardship Blake faces to find a suitable home on the police chiefs salary. Liz is also tense about the mystery Christmas surprise Nate has planned for the entire family. Yes, she has total confidence in Nate; however, pleasing everyone is a huge task, especially for this eclectic group!

I was fortunate to receive an ARC of this latest in the Liz Talbot Low country series for review. This is certainly a great read that is sure to put you in the Christmas spirit.
