Her work has got in the way of relationships before – but never like this Anna’s job as a geologist takes her all over the world, including to the beautiful island of Elba, where she’s sent to look for precious metals. And the island isn’t the only thing that’s gorgeous – she can’t believe her luck when she meets windsurfer Marco and sparks fly.
But Anna must keep her role on Elba a secret to avoid upsetting the locals, which means lying to Marco even as they grow closer. When her old friend Toby visits, Anna suddenly finds herself torn between the attentions of the two men. However, Anna’s not the only one keeping secrets.
Is Marco being entirely honest with her? And why did Toby really come to visit?
A fun and escapist romance, perfect for fans of Lucy Coleman and Alex Brown.
Firstly, my name isn't T A. It's Trevor. I write under the androgynous name T A Williams because 65% of books are read by women. In my first book, one of the (female) characters suggests the imbalance is due to the fact that men spend too much time getting drunk and watching football. I couldn't possibly comment. Ask my wife... I've written all sorts: thrillers, historical novels, short stories and now I'm enjoying myself hugely Cozy Mysteries. I lived and worked in Italy for a number of years, married an Italian, and fell in love with the country. I set almost all my books in Italy and I hope that my love from the country shines through my work. I‘ve lived all over Europe, but now I live in a little village in sleepy Devon, tucked away in south west England. I love the place. That’s why you’ll find leafy lanes and thatched cottages in most of my books. Oh, yes, and a black Labrador. I've been writing since I was 14 and that is well over half a century ago. I'm now approaching 1 million books sold worldwide and I find it wonderful that people as far away as India and New Zealand are reading and enjoying my work. Thank you to everybody who reads my stuff.
Argh! A trip to Italy is now required! Williams’ vivid portrayal of the island of Elba left me aching for a holiday: the sun, the sea, the travelling…
This story follows Anna, a geologist, who has been sent on a work trip to Elba. Searching for precious metals, she soon comes into contact with some of the lovely inhabitants of Elba. After literally bumping into Marco, Anna can’t help but be reminded that her nomad lifestyle is not going to allow her to put roots down. Even Anna’s mother is putting the pressure on her, reminding Anna of her age and that all the travelling is not going to secure her a solid relationship. Although Anna has the opportunity to go out with Toby before her Italian trip, meeting Marco puts those thoughts aside and she is tempted to have a mindless fling with such a gorgeous hunk.
I liked the geologist element behind this story and found it interesting to see how Anna juggled trying to balance her career alongside environmental concerns. She is aware of the damage that mining can have on the landscape and this raises moral questions, especially as she is already questioning her future in such a global job. Furthermore, when Anna meets Jack and George, I thought the plot took a more solid direction, rather than just focusing on Anna’s love life.
I was smitten with Jack’s character and George, the lovable Labrador! I think this really strengthened the geological aspect of the story, drawing attention to the romance theme of the plot. However, when the writer refers to ‘Naughty Anna’ and ‘Sensible Anna’, I could not help but cringe inside; it was like a little piece of me died every time Williams used these phrases! They are placed to describe Anna’s attraction to Marco: on the one hand, she realises any relationship she has will not last and that it is truly physical, (not to mention the potential of a romance with home-based Toby); on the other hand, Anna is driven by lust and the excitement that will break up her feelings of loneliness. However, I do think that the writer could have done something a little different to describe Anna’s conflicting feelings. Instead, it felt cringe-worthy and, to be honest, quite patronising. Yes, Anna cannot decide whether to let her heart or head rule but, surely these terms did not have to be used? It actually left me lacking interest in Anna’s love life and wanting more scenes focusing on her friendship with Jack.
This was the central reason why I could not award this perfect escapism the full five-stars. This aside, it was a beautiful setting that Williams vividly describes. Although the plot was quite predictable, I could not entirely foresee the ending and, whilst it does end on a note of optimism, I also found it quite sad as well.
I think this novel is great for those who love stories set in Italy or by the sea. It is a great example of escape fiction with a little bit of romance thrown in there as well. Personally, I think Anna is an interesting protagonist and I think Williams has created a character that is a little different from typical romance heroines. It’s a pleasant, quick read that left me yearning for Italian shores.
With thanks to Canelo, NetGalley and Rachel’s Random Resources for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Is there a pandemic around and traveling abroad is not advisable yet? Don’t worry, you can do the next best thing and travel from your couch (or wherever you read) and what better destination than Italy? Once again T.A. Williams paints a really vivid picture of a gorgeous Italian location that will make you feel you’re the one swimming in the Mediterranean, taking a stroll through the island of Elba or enjoying one of the mouth watering delicacies described (not recommendable to read it on an empty stomach!).
Anna was such an enjoyable character. For once, her job is not the typical we use to see in this kind of stories, so it was nice to learn a bit about mining and its impact on the environment. She’s married to her job but after not one but two dreamy suitors come into her life she starts questioning what she really wants in her life. She felt constantly torn between Sensible Anna and Naughty Anna and I liked this kind of angel and demon situation.
Usually in these rom-coms it is fairly clear from the get go who the leading lady is ending up with but, in this case, the intrigue lasted until the end, so the not knowing who (if any) she would end up with was interesting.
But if there was a character I truly fell in love with was George, a gorgeous labrador that proves that dogs are really man’s best friend and that, in most cases, they are better than humans. Both George and his owner Jack were so lovable and what he did for Anna was such a nice gesture.
Until things go back to normal once and for all I have no doubt, T.A. Williams books are my favorite way of traveling.
Thanks to NetGalley and Canelo for providing an eARC in exchange for an honest review.
I'm always excited to be able to be whisked away in a T A Williams book, especially as International Travel looks still so so far away in the real world, that armchair travel via reading is a bit escape for me.
And once more our talented author has produced the goods in a wonderful story, set against a stunning back drop of the island of Elba, I couldn't get enough of this book.
From the tasty sounding food, to the two men that Anna may be interested in, although neither are necessarily as they seem, to her job this was all such a great mix.
In fact Anna is a geologist and actually gets to travel the world looking for precious metals and gets to do cool things like prospect ore, in the hopes something valuable occurs. Although she loves the job she is starting to realise it may be preventing her from having a relationship, so there is real thoughts she has a lot as to what she really wants in life.
But yet although she has a gorgeous Italian windsurfer, plus an old friend both potentially interested in her, the men I really enjoyed getting to know are Jack and George. George is a the latest in a long line of black Labradors to capture my heart within T. A. Williams books, he seems to take to Anna really quickly as well as loving his master, and being known by everyone locally in the area.
And Jack his owner, becomes a deer friend to Anna, despite being significantly older, and keeps her entertained with stories from his own career and travels. It's lovely to see this friendship being developed.
Elba really worked its charms on both Anna and me, and I really wish I was able to get on a plane, and experience the boat trips around the coast line etc... It sounds so gorgeous.
There are all manner of secrets being hidden in this book, both on the Island itself but also within its key cast of characters, which makes for some interesting discoveries.
Another gem of a book from this rare and precious author!
Thank you to Canelo and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily,
The island of Elba – well, I must say I rather like it there, and it certainly isn’t the first time I’ve added a location to my bucket list as a result of reading the vivid descriptions in one of the author’s lovely books. It looks just perfect for a relaxing break, but that’s not the reason for Anna’s visit – she’s a geologist who travels the world searching for sources of precious metals, and it’s rather important that no-one finds out the real reason why she’s currently on the island. As she kicks back, discovers the island’s unspoilt beauty and makes new friends, she rather hopes her search will be fruitless – and has plenty of time to consider whether it’s time to have a rather less frantic life and make some time to live her life with the possibility of a relationship and a more settled future.
Being almost mowed down by his windsurfer brings Marco into her life. Suave and charming (and extremely hot), but with a distinctly dubious reputation, “Naughty Anna” begins to emerge – would a holiday fling really be such a bad thing? But as she hides her real reason for being on the island, she finds that there are more obstacles to a relationship than just Marco’s reputation – he’s passionate about environmental issues, a leading light in the Save Elba group, and that really would make Anna “the enemy”. So maybe she’d just be better sticking with Toby – a childhood friend pushed in her direction by her mother, there was certainly an unexpected spark of attraction when they met, and she’s rather looking forward to seeing if it becomes a flame when he visits the island while sailing around the Med.
And then there are the new friends – significantly Jack who comes into her life in a particularly dramatic way. He’s an elderly former geologist now living on the island, whose life had previously followed a similar path to Anna’s, travelling the world for a mining company: it gives him a rich fund of stories – and makes it really difficult for Anna to hide her secret – and his essential loneliness gives her more food for thought about whether her life choices are the right ones. And yes, as I’m sure you’ll have guessed, Jack doesn’t live entirely alone – his rather aromatic labrador George is a quite wonderful character (as the author’s labrador creations always are), accompanying Anna on her walks, joining her for early morning swims, smothering her with affection at every possible opportunity.
There are a few later twists and turns to the story. First there’s the arrival of boss’s daughter Ruby to replace Anna’s sidekick Charlie (and what a lovely supporting character he is) – she’s destined to take over the reins of the mining company, although her heart really isn’t in it. And Anna’s secret – of course – becomes increasingly difficult to conceal, with the worry over what everyone will think of her when they find out the secret she’s been hiding. And Jack, it turns out, has a rather big secret of his own – and that was part of the storyline that I particularly enjoyed.
This really is the loveliest of reads. Anna’s an excellent character, and I really liked her very much from outset. The ins and outs of her relationships with Marco and Toby kept me entirely engaged – and I thoroughly enjoyed the warmth of her friendship with Jack (and George!). There’s an essential lightness about it all, a book you read with a smile on your face – but the author really does have the perfect emotional touch, and I will admit that there was a point in the story that did make me well up a little and wipe away a tear. Yes, I really loved this one – perhaps my favourite book yet by this lovely author, and I’d recommend it really highly.
A perfect escape to a beautiful Italian island. Elba sounded magical and the descriptions of the beautiful beaches and scenery so vividly portrayed a stunning island. I really enjoyed Anna’s story- doing a job she loved but at the sacrifice of settling down - it was lovely to read of her discovery of the delights of the island. Jack and George were brilliant supporting characters and provided Anna with so much support and encouragement. A brilliant summer read.
If a reader is fortunate, they pick up the new book by an author they follow and they are surprised. Yes, it's nice to read the next one, as you have an idea of the style, yet I always hope that the next one will be THE one, the book which elevates the author to the Next level.
'Secrets on the Italian Island' is That book which does this for TA Williams...and I couldn't be happier!
The secret to a good story is...KISS (keep it simple, stupid) and the gist of this story is simple; protagonist tied to job, is at that crossroads where they have to decide to continue, or to see if there is more to life. That is what Anna, a Geologist, has to decide...and that's all I'm telling you about the story.
So, what bring this book to the next level? The author has always managed to get me tied up with his stories and especially his wonderful descriptions of the locations where they are set. Here, we still have that, but it's the characters (yes, including a great dog) that completely tied me in knots here, keeping me guessing right to the end about one. There are secrets to be uncovered, to be kept, all against the most stunning of scenery. I was a bit of a wreck at the end, but that's dues to what happens to one character especially; this is exactly as the author wanted though, I'm certain.
Pick up this book and don't put it down until you've finished!
My thanks to Canelo and Netgalley for the reading copy.
Welcome to my spot on the Publication Day Push for Secrets on the Italian Island by T.A. Williams. This is the third book in the Escape to Tuscany series and I have now enjoyed all three getaways to beautiful places in Italy.
Anna is a geologist for a mining enterprise who is tired of traveling all over the world. She loves her job, but not her personal life. Well, that’s about to change. When she is sent to the island of Elba for her next undercover assignment to scope out a potential site for precious metals, she meets Marco, a man with a reputation as a womanizer and a member of an environmental group for the island. Two strikes, right? Well, Sensible Anna and Naughty Anna are battling it out on whether or not to have a fling with the extremely charming and alluring Marco knowing that she is only there for two weeks and Marco won’t appreciate the real reason she’s there. Besides she is meeting up with her attractive childhood friend Toby, bachelor number two, whom she met in the UK recently courtesy of their mother’s matchmaking skills. Two new relationships. Secrets abound. A job that she loves. Is it time for a change?
I appreciate that Anna loves her job, but is it worth giving up personal relationships? It would make for a lonely life as Anna has seen with her new friend on the island, Jack Dante, a retired geologist and confidante. It’s frustrating watching Anna consider sleeping with Marco, a man practically everyone has warned her about, but she’s had quite a dry spell. However, she owes sweet Toby a chance considering he is making a point of stopping at the island on his holiday cruise to meet up with her, but he has secrets of his own. After some misunderstandings and secrets revealed, Anna finally comes up with a solution to her life which leads to a HEA ending.
I love Jack and his dog, George. Jack and Anna are so lonely for company and make a great pair as they share the same interests. In addition, Anna’s friend and colleague, Charlie, gives her wise advice from the start.
I recommend this delightful romance with gorgeous scenery, exquisite food, and intriguing characters that made me add yet another destination to my bucket list.
Thank you to Mr. Williams for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.
Once more this highly talented author has written a fabulous story that whisked me away, escaping our current travel restricted reality in the best possible way. This story has so many key ingredients which make it a total delight to read, including a beautiful setting, delicious food, fantastic characters and plenty of surprises.
Anna is a geologist but is rethinking her lifestyle as her world wide travel in search of precious metals means she has little opportunity for relationships. She recently reconnected with an old friend, Toby, but has no time to see if their relationship could develop further as she’s sent abroad again.
Her latest jaunt is to the beautiful island of Elba where she is ordered to keep her search secret from the locals who may protest the prospect of mining in the area. Her stay there includes meeting and being attracted to the local heartthrob, the windsurfing Marco, as well as the delightful Jack and his black Labrador, George. I have to say Anna’s relationship with Jack and George is one of the highlights of this lovely story and one which leads to some brilliant surprises! When Toby comes to visit, Anna is torn between the two suitors, but secrets and surprises as well as tragedy will all have their parts to play before this story concludes.
This is a delightful, fun read that I really can’t praise highly enough. With his mouth watering descriptions of delicious foods, breath taking scenery and great characters, the author places the reader in the heart of the action, providing lots of laughter and heartwarming romance in an enthralling story filled with surprises.
Thank you to Canelo and NetGalley for my copy of this book which I have voluntarily read and honestly reviewed.
Secrets on the Italian Island is Book 3 in the Escape to Tuscany series and each story is a standalone novel. They are perfect introductions to a new author and once you’ve sampled his work you can escape to Tuscany and more with his books.
With every book by T.A. Williams you can guarantee you’ll be whisked away to a place of beauty. T.A. Williams knows his locations so well his words transport me and I feel I can picture the setting, experience the sights, tastes and aromas and enjoy discovering new cultures.
Secrets on the Italian Island is another classic from the author, it’s a story about Anna, a geologist, who is in her late twenties and currently lives and breathes work. She loves her work but is starting to doubt her current work life balance, as it’s pretty much one sided! Her latest work case is to tour around the beautiful Italian island, Elba, with a view to unearthing rare metals underground.
Elba sounded like a stunningly beautiful island that has tried to keep to it’s natural habitat and not let tourists and multi-national businesses spoil it’s outlook.
Anna soon gets to know the area and a few locals who soon become friends but she finds it difficult to keep her job and the reason she is on the island secret. The residents of Elba are understandably very protective of their unspoilt island.
Whilst Anna is searching the island she is also doing a lot of soul searching herself. Within the matter of a few weeks her non-existent personal life has become complicated with the attention of two men. Two very different men and Anna is confused which way her will go.
Secrets on the Italian Island is a lovely contemporary romance that feels like a travelogue. The author packs so much detail about his settings including the history and architecture of the area, you find yourself wanting to learn more. I always also enjoy the inclusion of a faithful dog companion in the storyline bringing a fun, comforting element.
Once again another sunshine filled story that was delightful, romantic, interesting and poignant.
Whenever I pick up a T.A. Williams book I know I am in for a treat, and about to be whisked away to some amazing Italian destination, meet some lovely friendly locals, imagine tasting some of the finest drinks and food on offer in the region and fall in love with a black Labrador or several. This book did not disappoint. It is in the third book in the Escape to Tuscany series, although each book is a stand alone, they are just based in the region.
We meet Anna, who is sent to Elba on a fact finding mission by her employer, she is a geologist for a major mining company looking for various previous metals on the island. Whilst doing her job and trying to keep her job hidden she meets and makes friends with some of the locals, in particular Jack and his trusty black lab George. And falls head over heals from his neighbour Marco, whilst keeping in contact with an old friend from the past. Stuck between knowing which man to choose, and knowing what to do with her life, Anna is in for quite a trip to Elba. And it would seen everyone she meets has a secret of their own they are trying to hide.
This is a great read, full of entertainment and secret twist and turns. I love the details the author goes into about the local culture, cuisine and wines. It makes me want to take a sail to Tuscany.
Thank you to Netgalley and Canelo for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Expected publication date July 8th 2021.
I have been reading T.A. Williams' book since I found out about his novels thanks to the blog tours, and I have always enjoyed them. This story was extra special for me.
In this story we follow geologist Anna's journey in this Italian island. This book has a lot of things I like. The Italian setting that I have come to love, the geology element which was something I have always found interesting, and them the romance and the decisions that Anna as to make.
I absolutely like that the story isn't just about the love and friendship, but also about Anna's job and career. It also has a message connected to geology and the environmental impact humans are having, it was refreshing because it makes this novel a lot more than just daily life and struggles, it's also about everyone else, the culture, the traditions, the impacts we have, and the interactions.
Overall, I was not disappointed and I had fun. It made me think, it got me going from chapter to chapter. It was a story that had the escape element thanks to the scenery and which under the current situation, was just what I needed. Can't wait to see what T.A. Williams will do next.
I really enjoyed this book. The story was good and kept me wanting to read more, I just couldn't put it down. The author has a way with words and really knows how to write.
I absolutely love reading books by this wonderful author who always writes such happy, feel good stories and I was entranced by the island of Elba within the first few pages. Once again the story is rich in location description and culture, you learn about the island and feel like you are sitting alongside Anna as she explores for the first time.
When you first meet Charlie and Anna you assume the story will be about their quest as geologists as they explore Elba but early on the story switches focus to Anna and we get to spend time with her as she battles her love of her job and the possibility of a career change so that she can finally find the time to focus on romance.
I flew through the pages of this story, it made me laugh, feel frustrated on behalf of Anna whilst being sprinkled with romance. Once again a wonderful story where you feel you have escaped every day life and been transported to a tranquil sunny location, providing some much needed escapism.
A perfect holiday romance? Yes. Predictable? Maybe. A pleasant read? Oh yes!! After reading this now I really want to go on a holiday to my favourite Italy/Spain once again :D
After reading a lot of psychological suspense and tense historical fiction, I couldn’t have wished for a more beautiful contrast in this third book of the Escape to Tuscany series.
Anna is at a turning point; her job means she moves around a lot and so has trouble forming meaningful relationships that can stand the separation that her work demands. Even her mother is getting in on the search for a husband for her daughter, much to Anna’s dismay. After fixing Anna up with a date – Toby – the son of a friend, her mum is hopeful that he’s the one. But Anna still can’t see how she can reconcile the demands of her job with a relationship. Anna has to decide whether her current, single, career-focused lifestyle is the future she sees for herself, and she resolves to make that decision after her next job in Elba.
Enchanted by the beautiful island, she quickly becomes aware of how mining for minerals could ruin its natural beauty and impact the environment for many years to come. Yet she has a job to do, and so keeping quiet about her real reason for being on the island is paramount.
Especially when she encounters Marco at the beach on her first day. The Italian hunk causes stirrings within her that she hasn’t felt in a long time, and a battle between Sensible Anna and Naughty Anna ensues. It’s a close run thing, and Anna is so close to succumbing to Marco’s charms, despite warnings of his playboy lifestyle. However when she learns Marco is part of an environmental group, it’s clear the two of them are not compatible in any long term capacity. Though a summer fling couldn’t do any harm, could it? And, of course, there’s still Toby to consider after he makes a special effort to interrupt his own holiday to meet up with her in Elba.
It’s getting more difficult for Anna to keep her job a secret, especially when it seems the environmentalists have heard rumours of a mining company exploring the island.
When a man who collapses on the beach, only to be saved by Anna and her colleague when his dog alerts them to his owner’s distress, she further helps out by looking after the man’s dog, George, until he is released. Jack cannot thank her enough and insists she stay in a cabin on his land when her hotel stay comes to an end. Anna and Jack hit it off, and learning that he was in the same profession leads to some fascinating conversations – although Anna can not tell him about her role on the island. The enforced secrecy begins to take its toll and soon Anna is in a hurry to leave.
She’s going to miss Jack and George, and even Marco until she gets a rude awakening that confirms her poor judgement in even imagining any kind of relationship with him. Can she make a go of things with Toby though? Is her mum right about him? And what of her future career path? As the title suggests there are lots of secret of the Italian island of Elba, and eventually they all have to come out. How will everyone react? For that, you’ll have to read it yourself. Trust me, you’ll love the ending even if there’s a tear in your eyes as you finish.
I was enthralled by Anna’s profession and the geological viewpoint on which the story focused, especially the fascinating history that took its toll on similar areas that had been mined at the expense of the environment. I loved the relationship between Anna and Jack, aided and abetted by the delightful George. This was an absolute breath of fresh air, complimented by stunning scenery, delicious food, and the formation of genuine friendships.
Hope there’s a fourth book in the series! The story is as mesmorizing as its cover.
4.5 stars rounded to 5 I’m Italian born and bred but rom-com set in Italy are one of my guilty pleasure and T.A. Williams’ novels are amongst my favourite in this genre. I love them because the descriptions and the situation are quite realistic, and I like how he describes my country and the people. The Secrets on the Italian Island is a fun read, engrossing and entertaining. I loved how he described Isola d’Elba and I was left craving for crostini with chicken liver. Anna, the main character, is an unusual heroine as she’s a geologist who travels around the world probing for rare metals. The story is about her romantic relationship but also talks about the impact of this type of work on personal life and the impact of mining on the environment. The environmental cause features strongly in this story as some of the characters are involved in this cause and I liked the observations. I had a lot of fun in reading about Marco as he reminded me of some dear friends who were very good at the seduction game but a disaster as boyfriend material. Marco is quite realistic and, thinking about my friends, what happened wasn’t a surprise. Jack was my favourite character, and I would be happy to meet such an interesting and complex man. He was the one I would have chosen over the other love interest. There’s plenty going on this book: secrets, romances, betrayal and growing up. It kept me hooked and the plot never drags and it’s full of unexpected twists. One note: I know that Italian politics is quite complex and not easy to understand but some phrases and situation were a bit over the top even for local political standard. I cannot say more without spoiling part of the plot, I assume they were a plot device. It was a pleasant read and I recommend it as it’s an excellent summer read. Many thanks to Canelo, Rachel's Random Resources and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine
I have reviewed many T.A. Williams novels (Dreaming of Tuscany Dreaming of Florence, Dreaming of Rome Dreaming of St. Tropez Dreaming of Italy and Dreaming of Christmas). Every one of them was escapist and unforgettable.
In Secrets on the Italian Island, Anna, a geologist, loves her job but would one day like a break from rocks and deep tunnels.
When she sees Toby again after years, she is not really sure if things will go right but after a few pub lunches and some chatting, they yearn to see each other again someday.
The Italian island of Elba is a paradise Anna can only dream of going to, but she is soon off on an assignment there.
I loved her internal dialogue as well as Toby's as they wondered if they would see each other again.
A chance encounter with Marco is something she does not know how to take but then I liked how she and Marco started getting to know each other.
Will she choose Toby or Marco? The suspense over that was very well built and kept going. The island was absolutely beautiful.
In my opinion, T.A. Williams has done it again and I really want to review all his books. He is one of my go-to escapist authors.
Thanks to T.A. Williams, Canelo and Rachel's Random Resources for my ARC in exchange for an honest and voluntary review.
Anna is a geologist that works for a company that locates rare minerals that can be used to make electronics. She travels the globe with her job and is never in one place very long.
Anna loves her rocks but wants to be in one place long enough to meet someone and find love.
After a dinner with Toby, an old neighbor who has grown up quite nicely, Anna has to travel to the Island of Elba to covertly look for minerals. While there, she meets a handsome man named Marco who is an environmentalist.
From no prospects to two interesting men vying for her attention, will Anna choose one or just stay dedicated to her rocks?
My Thoughts
This was my second book by this author and just like the last time, I read this book in one sitting.
The setting of the island of Elba made me long for a trip to Italy and the description of all the delicious food consumed during this book made my mouth sad I was eating Chick fil a minis which I usually adore.
The main character, Anna, had such an interesting job and I loved the writing about the connection she made on the Island with an elderly resident named Jack and his lovable black lab, George.
This was just a sweet, clean, easy read that made a rainy Florida day transform to a trip to am exotic locale.
When I see a new T. A. Williams book is coming I now have very high expectations, and he never disappoints. The plot is always fresh and new and the settings are simply divine meaning that I can never wait to dive in. Williams has this amazing ability to breathe life into a setting that I have usually only read about or seen on the TV. I can see, breath and smell every bit of the surroundings and I am there. The Island of Elba is so beautifully and vividly described and it’s a place that I never knew existed before reading this book. I have perfect imagery of it now and I know if I ever get to visit, it will feel familiar. Anna is such a sweet character and I loved how she relaxed and got into ‘holiday mode’ with a little more of a mischievous side. I found the knowledge about her job fascinating too. I adored the love triangle aspect and spent time weighing up Marco and Toby and trying to decide who she would choose. Additional characters add a further dimension to the plot and I love how their relationships and interactions develop throughout the book. This is a great Summer read with a stunning setting and perfect for escaping away from everyday life for a few hours.
This one was so interesting since the blurb, I actually liked that the protagonist had a so interesting job and it wasn't like just a desk job or something, she was hand on to the prize, I liked that a lot.
It was so easy to relate to Anna, I mean she struggled with any number of normal things as we women often do, that made her super real and I have been in a lot of situations relating security, self esteem and others as she was just going through in this novel, that made me feel stronger for her.
The how everything came step by step coming along and aligning itself to the delicate situation and position she is going through was nice and even fun the way everything come to happen to her, Charlie was voice of reason here, i would have love to have him more on the picture.
One interesting thing on this book was the good combination the genres did, it was a cozy mystery for me but the romance part didn't felt strange or weird it was just coming along so well, will love to read more about this author later on, I do see he has 2 more on this series but I can think they are pretty good standalones in a way.
I received a digital ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. I have followed this author, on Twitter, and really enjoyed his generous sharing of both author’s and blogger’s work. I have loved his previous titles, and this is another winner. The descriptions of the Tuscan Island of Elba were so detailed that I could easily picture each of the beaches and beauty spots that Anna visited. The sea sounded refreshing and made me want to go for a midnight swim. I, like most of my peers, knew that Elba was where Napoleon was banished to, but knew little else. I now feel like a seasoned visitor. Geology was not a subject matter that I would have imagined would lend itself to romantic fiction, but I can’t think of a better job for Anna. I loved the characters of Jack, and George the exuberant Labrador. Geology was the conduit for their wonderful connection, and I found their friendship to be incredibly special. I certainly learned a lot, reading this book, and will view the composition of coastlines with a new perspective.
When I started reading the book I wasn’t sure what to expect. I loved the cover and had heard good stuff about T.A. Williams’ books but I had yet to read one, despite owning a couple. At first I thought oh no, long descriptive paragraphs, this is going to be a tough read but boy was I wrong!
I soon get sucked right in there and whisked away to the sunny Italian island of Elba with a geologist named Anna and this is what I got:
✅ a beautiful setting
✅ a very likable main character with a good heart

I can highly recommend this lovely summer read with amazing secondary characters in the form of a dog and an elderly man. They are sure to make you smile!
I would like to thank the author, the publisher and NetGalley for the chance to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
TA Williams always gives us a breathtaking setting and this one, on the island of Elba, is no exception. It really does feel like an escape to a beautiful part of the world, with shimmering coasts, sandy beaches and the panoramic views. Anna is at an interesting moment in her life. Nearing the end of her twenties, she senses that her career is going to need a rethink and she needs to work out what she hopes to do next. Whereever she goes, she still meets people who seem to have become obsessive about their work or causes which has made for a lonely life with no room for anyone else.
Anna's job as a geologist throws up some interesting thoughts about the effect of modern life on the environment and she is aware of the effects her decisions can have on a community. Anna is faced with two would-be suitors but I was never too sure how her choice was going to work out. This is a gorgeous, escapist read and I am delighted to say that a certain black labrador has a major role in this story.
In short: Sun, sea, romance Thanks to the author for a copy of the book
Anna's job as a geologist takes her all over the world including the beautiful island of Elba - where she also meets windsurfer Marco and sparks fly. But Anna must keep her role a secret to avoid upsetting the locals which means lying to Marco. Then when Toby, an old friend, visits Anna suddenly finds herself torn between the two men, However, Anna's not the only one keeping secrets.
A cute, easy to read novel which made for a very welcome change of pace and makes for an excellent summer read. The detail in the description is just perfect, you can almost imagine you are there on the island of Elba. I did really like the main character Anna, and even the little love triangle that was going on and the outcome of it. I have even downloaded the previous two books in the Escape To Tuscany series as this one was so lovely.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy of this book in return for a review
I'm not sure where Trevor gets all his ideas from? Each time I think the next book can't possibly be as good, and each time it somehow seems to be even better.
I loved this story, partly because the location of Elba made it stand out from the ordinary, but also because of the wonderful characters. Anna's background is also different from the usual female jobs so again a win-win.
The conflict as Anna is torn between old neighbour Toby, and exciting Marco didn't feel at all contrived. we all know which one she should go for, but will she?
The ending also got me; very poignant with a kind of Indiano Jones twist. I'm saying no more - just read the book.
The perfect book to escape a rainy day. This story follows Anna, a geologist on the Island of Elba seeking rare geological treasures. There is a good mix of humour, mystery and romance in this story. Complex characters with secrets, not immediately obvious, to Anna add to the story's conflicts. Anna's life has lacked romance, but Elba is rich in men as well as minerals. Her encounters with Jack and Labrador George are insightful and poignant, adding emotional depth to this romantic comedy.
This is a heartwarming travel romance with vibrant characters, vivid settings and gentle romance.
I received a copy of this book from Canelo via NetGalley in return for an honest review.
There is just something so wonderful how TA writes his characters are really lifelike and the way he describes the scenery makes you feel that you are there along side the characters as an unseen person. The story flows along at a great pace drawing you in, it's a real ' which man ' will Anna end up with..... I know for sure thanks to TA I now have another place added to the list of places I want to visit and many of these are down to him!
i love reding these Brit moves to Continent for job/inheritance/emotional recovery books wach summer. I always learn things about the setting (vineyars in Provence; perfumerie in Paris; Tuscan hill village, etc.) and there is usually an intriguing storyline as well. This one was a little thin. I enjoyed the setting - Elba - the usual friendly dog, but I found both the romance and the mining vs. the environment storyline less than compelling. T.A. Williams writes well, however, and I could definitely picture the setting in my head.
Anna is a geologist and has been sent with her colleague George to picturesque Elba but soon after arriving he hasn't to leave as his wife has gone into labour. Prior to her departure to Elba she had a date with Tony an old friend she hadn't seen for years and they got on well. In Elba she met the local womaniser and fell for his charms. She also met an old guy Jack and his dog and shared many meals and long chats with him. This is a riveting novel and T A Williams has become a favourite author of mine.
With thanks to #Netgalley and #Canelo for an ARC of #SecretsOnTheItalianIsland by #T.A.Williams.
Anna is a Geologist, sent to the island of Elba, to hunt for precious metals. Anna meets Marco, a local surfer, and it’s fair to say there is a spark between them. Anna is keeping secrets, but is Marco all he seems?
This book will take you away to a beautiful place. A warm tale of romance and secrets. Perfect escapism. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
