From USA Today bestselling author D.L. Wood comes the next stand-alone installment in the Secrets and Lies series.
Can a liar tell the truth? As a rebellious young girl, Quinn Bello told a lie that had tragic consequences, permanently branding her in her coastal hometown of Seaglass Cove, Florida. Desperate to atone for her past, Quinn dedicated her Tampa law practice to representing victims of injustice until a series of disastrous decisions leaves her disbarred, out of options, and back in Seaglass Cove where it all began. Now she’s hoping for a fresh start. That hope quickly evaporates when she discovers a dead body that inexplicably vanishes. Given her history, no one in town believes her—no one except cafe owner Ian Wolfe, a newcomer who has his own mysterious reasons for refusing to hold Quinn’s past against her. When the two team up to redeem Quinn’s reputation and expose the truth, the bizarre incidents start stacking up and the danger mounts, along with doubts about Quinn’s story, sanity, and ultimately, her innocence. Will the pair expose the sinister forces at work before Quinn becomes the next victim?

D. L. Wood has written another winner with Liar Like Her. This fast-paced inspirational novel entertained with several plot twists and intriguing characters. Her well-crafted story definitely kept me turning pages. Like all of D.L.'s books, her attention to detail in this novel is one of the reasons she's one of my favorite authors.
Loved this book and it's timeliness during this pandemic period. I read it in 2020, and reviewed it as part of the Dangerous Deceptions boxset.
Liar Like Her by D.L. Woods - I finished this book in 2020 and really did like it. It was very timely with the 'Big Pharma' conspiracy and the story had a lot of mystery, suspense and thought-provoking scenarios. Well-done! Here is a quote I highlighted: God defined who she was—His child, precious in His sight. And that was the only label she needed or would accept. (from D.L Wood - Liar Like Her)
Liar Like Her by D.L. Wood was a fantastic read! As is the case with all of her books, this is one you won't want to put down. I kept thinking, "I will read just one more chapter", but then kept on reading right to the end. Very vivid descriptions make you feel like you in the story and I love the twist at the end.
Quinn Bello - disbarred lawyer Ian Wolfe - ex-cop turned food-truck owner
Very good story with some surprising turns. Great faith arc!
Traveling…more review later
Lisa Bozek - Narrator…excellent!
Only five days later, but because I’ve been traveling, I don’t remember the story enough to complete the review. I don’t even remember why the book is called Liar Like Her. But one thing that stands out to me is that I will be reading this book rather than listening to it next time. I want to be able to underline the section detailing the poor impression she has of herself because of how her small town views her. God views her differently. He views her as forgiven and loved. There is much more to that section that I can’t accurately articulate. But it was so good.
Though, other than The Who was after Quinn mystery, it was pretty predictable. My main attraction is it is free of sex, profanity, etc.
I do have one major UGH, as I do with most Christian authored books, God is presented as the great restorer of broken lives, which is true, but rarely and I mean rarely do any Christian authors address the topic of sin, and that we are all sinners in need of a Savior. Rarely and again I mean rarely is there any mention of Jesus Christ. I don’t want to be preachy, but bottom line is a Christian our great commission is not to write clean, make me feel good books, but to proclaim the Gospel and make disciples. Matthew 28:18-20.
A five star review when a Christian author proclaims the Gospel, and not just life is better when you have God in it and He will get you through life’s tough times.
“What’s true about your past doesn’t have to be the truth of your future.”
“God didn’t make people things to be labeled by their mistakes. He made them souls to grow from them. Your mistakes were part of your growing process. They played a role in your becoming, but they aren’t what you’ve become. You’re more than a label. You’ve got to decide once and for all who you believe yourself to be. You have faith. Does that faith say your identity is defined by your past, or by the God who rescued you and who he says you are? Until you decide that, you won’t have peace.”
“And my take on this and on you has everything to do with the fact that you have a history as a liar and a drinker and a self-medicator who not six months ago was so hopped-up that you nearly shot someone in a courtroom—”
First of all, I am a huge fan of author DL Wood. I discovered her on Goodreads back in 2015 and loved every book so far. Liar Like Her is no exception. It has all the elements of other DL Wood books: a great setting (a small beach town in Florida!), edge of your seat suspense with nice chapter ending cliffhangers throughout, Christian themes of not letting your past define your present/future, romance that is neither sappy or unrealistic, and protagonists that you immediately are drawn to with many layers.
Speaking of protagonists, Quinn Bello is an ex-lawyer who is disbarred after firing a gun in a courtroom after a mixture of medicine and alcohol. DL Wood handles the topic of depression seriously and realistically. We also have Ian Wolfe, who owns a local coffee shop, and has a secretive past. Throw in a vanishing dead body and skeptical law enforcement and you have quite the intriguing story! I spent the entirety of the book not knowing what was going to happen next. There was some foreshadowing on one of the aspects that later came into play, but other than that, a total mystery. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Christian suspense with just the right amount of romance thrown in. Order it today!
I received this book courtesy of the author in exchange for an honest review.
Quinn Bello was labelled a liar and unreliable for her past mistakes, starting as a young girl when she lied, thinking to protect her friends and make the situation worse for them and herself. Since then, her reputation proceeded her. She tried her best to change it, which is why she became a lawyer to help people until one day, her world turned upside down again; the consequence of that new incident got her disbarred. Without any option, she returned to her community in Seaglass Cove to start a new beginning. But all her hopes seemed to disappear when she discovered inside her home a dead body; she called the police, and when they came, they could not find the body, and then other strange things started to happen, all of which pointed at her, her reputation again is tarnish, nobody even the police believes her. Nobody but one, a handsome cafe owner, and the two of them will try to discover the truth behind this threatening situation before it is too late. This book got mystery and romance. I gave it four stars.
I had read book one in this duology, “Secrets She Knew“, earlier this month and really enjoyed it. When I realized it was part of a duology I immediately ordered the second book, this one. Because I enjoyed the first one so much, did I have assumptions and expectations? Yes, yes I did. Were those fulfilled? No, they were not.
To start, I assumed (I know, I know, one should never assume) that “Liar Like Her” would have the same location or at least a returning character from book one. This was not the case for either. This story is set in Florida with a completely new cast of characters. I had to “reprogram” my brain for that. There really is no connections between the duology.
The next thing is the story itself. It started off intriguing- “It isn’t possible for three girls to vanish into thin air.” Okay, you had me hooked. Who were these girls? What was happening with them? And then the next chapter we are years later about a totally different situation. I felt somewhat deceived and let down. When I realized where the theme of the story was actually going, and the reveal, my only reaction was “Oh. Huh. Okay. I guess.” I basically finished the book because it is on the shorter size for a novel and it took less than a day. It ended up being a bit of a disappointment.

I have just finished DL Wood's book.. "Liar Like Her" and absolutely could not put it down. True to all of her books, this one did not disappoint. Ms Wood will have me thinking that I'm ahead of her, knowing exactly what's about to happen, smugly knowing "whodunnit", when she suddenly takes a sharp turn heading in another direction that I couldn't have begun to predict! Her characters are so real... I just knew that I had met Quinn somewhere... and the way this author was able to manipulate my feelings toward the deputy was astounding. I always look forward to anything this gifted writer produces knowing that I can count on her to hold me from the beginning to the end without being assaulted with the gratuitous sex scene or the tiring and predictable random use of profanity that so many authors tend to lean on. I highly recommend not only "Liar Like Her" but anything DL Wood writes.
This was my first D.L. Wood book, and hopefully will not be the last. I enjoyed the back stories of the hero and heroine, and the way they were coping with their pasts. I think it had to be far more difficult for Quinn because she had returned to her hometown to try to heal from a past that practically everyone she knew reminded her of at every turn. On the other hand, Ian had moved from another part of the country to a place where no one knew him. The big question is whether Quinn will survive long enough to overcome the past. She had a lot to overcome.
4.5 stars. This was a great story. It had some good twists and turns in it. The beginning absolutely had me hooked and invested, it slowed down a little in the middle, there were some good twists towards the end, and it concluded in a satisfactory way with all of the questions answered. I would definitely recommend this clean, Christian romance.
from a favorite author! It was a bit slow going for me... Intentionally, I think so we'd question things too. I was surprised by the ending... and of course happy that things were good in the end. But I'm not sure I'd be kayaking in water with alligators... it is set in Florida, y'all.
I read Liar Like Her by D. L. Wood. I was intrigued and hooked by the end of the first page! It was a fantastic book!! Great read! I highly recommend it! It will not disappoint! Can’t wait to read the other books in the set!
What a roller coaster ride of emotions! It is set up do you truly wonder what the truth is. Then it gets worse. The tension builds to almost exploding point. When it looks like to bad guys have won, the end is nigh. It has a good ending.
DL Wood’s book Liar Like Her is a great read. Wood draws you in with her characters, especially the main character Quinn. There is a great twist at the end which explains what has happened to Quinn. A great romantic suspense novel. Loved it!
Seeing a dead body, in rushing from her apartment, she returns to find a body on her living room floor. It’s there and then It disappears. It seems like clued are being planted against her, and only one person believed her.
D.L. Wood has not let me down yet. Her stories are filled with excitement and the the way she intertwines faith into the narrative is inspiring and she keeps me wanting more. Can’t wait to see what happens next.
This was quite a different story. In my opinion, there was too much description in the first few chapters. Once i really got into the story, I didn’t want to put it down.
Mystery, suspense and romance combine in this book to take the reader on a tense ride. Forgiveness, trust and faith are found in the lessons in this story. Worth the read.
This was a great book with lots of twists and turns in the plot. I really identified with the main character and her dilemma. I wanted to fix things for her. Couldn’t put it down!
This author has penned another 5 star suspense novel that kept me guessing and turning pages to read what happens next. You will not be disappointed when you chose this novel as your next read. R. Fody Oct. 9, 2024
What an interesting story, good mystery, likeable protagonists, characters you can identify with, what's not to like? I highly recommend it. Thank you. carolintallahassee
This story was an unexpected surprise. The suspense was well defined and kept the reader wondering who and why. The true message is defining ourselves by God's definition instead of other people's opinion of who we are or were in the past.
I enjoyed thisbook. It felt like I was watching a movie. I became more evolved with the interaction of the people, like watching it live.I recommend this as a mystery, but the interactions we're all explained and left me completely satisfied.it's more like a star 10.
Love this author and love her books! Nice to read books that don’t have foul language or questionable content. I also enjoy the books because they actually have a plot and a message to them.
D.L. Wood weaves a masterful tale of intrigue and suspense. Twists and turns reveal new layers with each discovery and you'll find yourself drawn into a novel of murder, pharmaceutical intrigue, and second chances.
Just finished Liar Like Her: A Secrets and Lies Suspense Novel by D.L. Wood. This quick paced book kept me guessing all the way to the end! Another gem by D.L. Wood, did not disappoint!
I loved this book! I can usually figure out what is going on in a book but this kept me guessing until the end! It was non stop action and hard to put down.
DL Wood has done it again. Her books are well written, keep you on the edge of your seat, suspense novels. I couldn’t put it down. I highly recommend this book, you will not be disappointed.
