Part of Zenescope's Grimm Universe, Van Helsing's daughter heads back into action when Dracula's bones are stolen by his daughter. It's a solid update to the story. I liked the added touch of the Dr. Jekyll's sidekick as well. Because it's Zenescope, the costumes are pretty skimpy for modern comic books, but the story is solid.

Received a review copy from Zenescope and Edelweiss.

This is a six-individual comic issues of Van Helsing vs. Dracula's Daughter. I didn't read Van Helsing before, so think I had missed some information about Liesel and her allies and enemies.
Liesel Van Helsing is a vampire hunter, fights vampires and other monsters. A story of women in tight clothes, with lots of blood and dead bodies.

Thanks to Netgalley, I have given an honest review of Van Helsing vs. Dracula's Daughter by Raven Gregory.

The art was spectacular, the details were amazing. I just wish that the leads who are sexy would wear some leather pants and a jacket to avoid getting hurt rather than the short clothes. Oh I'm all for confident leads but damn I was so scared that some venom or demon blood could get on their skin. I loved the premise setting andd the creepiness level was in heights.

The only thing that irked me was it ended on such a cliffhanger. I want to know what happens next. The story flow was good but the alternative scenes from past and present were a little confusing at the start but later they had great balance. The landscape art was the coolest and the monsters hunted here were so well depicted even through the blood and gore.

Julie was my favourite and I hope to god that she survived that fall. This on the whole was a good book and I wish I had read a more easy going font than the block letters. The end was eerie and a little unexpected with a lot of acope for a better and amazing plot in the next book. Thank you for the copy @netgalley

I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.

Van Helsing vs Draculas daughter is the latest edition to this hot, fast paced and blood filled vampire hunter series.
The graphics are amazingly detailed and although some screens are far fetched, that is part of the comic book theme.
I loved the Dr Jeckle side kick in this edition and loved Vzn Helsing going up against Draculas daughter in this edition!
A must for comic book fans!

This was a very intriguing take on the timeless Dracula vs Van Helsing story. I haven’t read any other comics in this universe but I enjoyed the premise.

The art style reminds me of the action cartoon shows I would watch when I was younger, like Gargoyles! I think the lore is well done in this comic world. The reveal of a hulking Frankenstein’s Monster at the end as well as Dr. Julie Jekyll/Hyde was a nice tidbit. I am intrigued by the relationships between different characters, including the background of Mina and Jonathan with Van Helsing as well as her possible sibling relationship with Charlotte, aka Dracula’s Daughter!

*3.5/5

In this dark, mysterious and action packed story, we follow Liesel Van Helsing, the daughter of the famous vampire hunter, who now faces her nemesis's daughter, Charlotte, the daughter of Count Dracula. She has come to steal her father's skeleton, so that she can bring him back from the dead.

Normally, I would go into the plot, describing the whole story, but most people don't like spoilers, so I think I will move on to my thoughts.

This was my first time reading something with these characters or something by this artist in general.

I enjoyed the pace, the premise and the art style. And I can see potential in this story. And maybe, just maybe, I will go back to reading more from this comic book universe.

However, there were some things that even though I can't say that I hated, I found a bit weird.

First things first, this is a part of a larger series, and these characters have been featured in previous issues. And unfortunately, this not being a standalone was not mentioned anywhere when I requested to read this. I will say though, that some storylines that were mentioned in this as flashbacks, had little asterisks next to them, so you could go back and know which issues to check out.

Naturally, this not being a standalone, affected the way I saw the characters. Both Liesel herself who, for some reason, didn't strike me as the genius presented here, and the secondary ones. For example, the presence of Jonathan and Mina Harker didn't serve any purpose here.

Same as Liesel's friend (whose name I don't remember, sorry!) who is a half-vampire(?) scientist and even though she seems like a very interesting character, her arc seems unfinished, with some of the plotlines about her coming out of nowhere (for someone who hasn't read the previous issues of course.)

Also, I am sorry about this, but the main story fell in a big slack somewhere around the middle. But at least the flashbacks regarding the villain were very interesting. Even though the villain herself was not (which, fair enough, might get fixed in future issues.)

Overall, this was a positive reading experience. But I will have to admit that I expected something even better, which I hope we get to see in the future.

If you made it this far, congratulations!
'Til next time, take care :) :) :)

The latest review-proof comic from this universe. It's got boobs, it's got monster-bashing, it's got gubber all to do with the original stories any more, and it's got the daughter of Van Helsing battling to best the daughter of Dracula. Fans will be buying it whatever any critic on earth says; occasional visitors will scoff at the more unlikely bits, and roll their eyes at the open ending and the promise of so much more to come.

This comic book imagines the daughter of the Van Helsing character (from Bram Stoker’s) pitted against the daughter of Dracula in what appears to be more-or-less the present day. It is action-packed, if juvenile and prone to rely on hackneyed dialogue and story points. To clarify, it’s a small team of scantily clad supermodel vampire hunters taking on a scantily clad supermodel Vampiress and her army of expendables. I liked it in the way that one likes movies that one picked on Netflix while mentally exhausted and uninterested in anything mentally or emotionally draining, but rather just some vapid entertainment.

It’s part of a serialized universe of stories, and so, while it can be understood as a standalone story, it is not optimally organized to be read in a standalone fashion. It sort of begins with some action that the [standalone] reader has no context for, and which will not be circled back to in the way a story opening in media res typically would. Put in another way, in the second half of the story, I had to consciously reflect back and try to piece together what the opening material had to do with the overall story being told. I suspect (but cannot confirm) that if one binge read the whole collection, it would probably make more sense.

Besides the ridiculously untactical (virtually painted on) outfits, there is some reverse villain monologuing – which is to say the hero interjects into the action to explain her plot to snatch victory from defeat. Granted that victory would be completely deus ex machina, i.e. out of the blue, otherwise, but that’s not really a redeeming point. [The most (I presume) unintentionally hilarious line involves Van Helsing telling Dracula’s Daughter that VH can’t blame the vampire progeny for missing VH’s super-stealth colleague as the reader sees a pictures of one of the aforementioned supermodels with her skirt slit up two inches above her pelvic crest operating a spade with one leg bare from toes to waist, standing as models do to accentuate the shapeliness of the calf. It’s the most conspicuous ninja operation one could possibly imagine.

As I say, I found this an okay story for a mindless read, but I wouldn’t have too high of hopes for it beyond that.

Before I begin this review I need to address something. Going into this book I did not know it was a part of a lager series. I thought it was either the first volume of a story or a standalone, however as I was reading I noticed that there were things that weren't fully explained and some things referenced other stories in this world. I did appreciate that the book included asterisks when referencing another work and told the reader where to find it, though I'm not sure if that will be included in the final print. I needed to address this because it did impact my rating of the book.

Okay, now with that out of the way we can continue to the review.
Overall, I liked the story and the kind of twist it took on the original Dracula story. It did, however add to my confusion slightly because going in to the book I had the impression that all the characters would be descendants of people in the Dracula story and not the actual people. I think there is a mixture but the way it's presented makes it a little confusing. However, I could for the most part follow the story and understand what was happening and why.

One element that bothered me through out the entire comic was the outfits that Julie and Liesel wear. Not only does it not seem like a practical outfit to go vampire hunting in, it also seems like it objectifies women. She wears a corset top with leather booty shorts and fish net stockings, not sure how much protection that really provides. That being said, I think this is definitely written for young men in mind which irritates me because the story is actually quite compelling. But with the objectification of women and a few sexist comments it really impacted my rating.

The last think I want to touch upon is the formatting of the book. When moving on to the next issue in the collection there would be a "what to expect in the next issue" section. I found this to be jarring. I think it would have been a better format that was removed and each issue was treated as a chapter where they get a title page that says the issue number and then the next page begins the story.

All in all, I thought the story was compelling but there were a few technical errors and sexism/ objectification of women that really hindered my enjoyment.

**Disclaimer: I received a free early access copy of Van Helsing vs Dracula's Daughter by Raven Gregory through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.  Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this opportunity.

Van Helsing vs Dracula's Daughter by Raven Gregory is a fantasy graphic novel about the daughter of Van Helsing, who works as a monster hunter.  She becomes the target of the daughter of her father's nemesis and things escalate quite quickly.  I rated it three stars on Goodreads.  It was published on July 13th, 2021.

Here's the summary from Goodreads:

Introducing Helsing's deadliest villain yet! Liesel Van Helsing returns in a brand new series set to turn the inventive huntress' world on fire. A mysterious being rises from Helsing's long forgotten past hell bent on revenge. A being whose secrets could very well destroy Helsing...and all she holds dear. Don't miss this exciting new series written by fan favorite Wonderland writer Raven Gregory and artist extraordinaire Allan Otero!

This was a really interesting premise.  I was pretty excited to read it, but there were definitely parts of this that weren't really for me.  Let's break it down into what worked and what didn't work for me.

Firstly, I liked the overall story.  There was a good amount of excitement and I kept wondering what was going to happen next.  The pacing was good, and each section ended with something that made me need to keep going.  The cliffhanger ending was annoying from a reader sense because I need the next volume, but I don't know when I'll get it, so that's kind of annoying.  Additionally, I liked the subtle literary references to Dracula and other classic horror literature.  It was a nice nod to the classics.  I would have enjoyed even more.

However, on the things that I didn't like, I didn't like the time setting.  It was super confusing about the time when the book was set because it seemed like it was set in a modern timeline with the technology and such, however, the flashbacks to Liesel's mother being pregnant seemed to be in an older age and that was really confusing to me.  I will acknowledge that that could be because I haven't read any other parts of this great Van Helsing graphic novel collection.  Overall, the art in the graphic novel was really well down and the characters were clear and what was happening was obvious, however, I didn't love the artistic choice of making the girls fight in skimpy costumes.  It just seemed really impractical to me.

Ultimately, I had fun while reading this graphic novel so if you're at all interested, I would suggest checking out the series.

We are introduced to Liesel Van Helsing as she is continuing her fight against the many denizens of the night that insist of doing evil and harming mankind. With her steampunk attire, and collection of silver stakes and bullets, she is a formidable foe for many a creature. Somebody steals Dracula’s corpse (who was defeated in a previous volume) and its up to Van Helsing to figure out what’s happening. I enjoyed the simple plot set-up and great action scenes in the book. The author has taken characters that everyone knows (Dr. Jekyll / Mr. Hyde for example) and altered them to a degree that keeps them fresh and different from other books and films like this.

The art is solid and easy to follow, the character designs are interesting and there are some interesting kills for those that like bloody monster demises. The dialogue isn’t spectacular, but I’m keeping in mind that I am jumping in at volume eight of a long-running series, so I’d imagine that the character building from previous volumes is somewhat unnecessary here as we are looking for cool fight scenes, where there are plenty!

While these books aren’t literary classics or anything, they are a ton of fun, and at the end of the day, that’s mostly why I read comics. I LOVE these sort of “cheesecake” books with pinup-styled art that harken back to comics from the past, and will support any company that does them.

I am picking up a comic after a long while and this 5-issue comics reminded me of how much I loved reading them. The comics features Liesel Van Helsing, whose father had a complicated relationship with Dracula, to say the least. In the present time, something sinister is stalking Van Helsing and is taking out her friends one by one. Someone will go to great lengths to get her revenge.
I love vampire stories and this one is a wonderful take on the classic story. Even though there are a lot of back stories, that are not included in these issues, one can guess what is going on. And if you know your classics, you are sure to see a crossover. That was something I didn't expect.
The illustrations are beautiful. Also, having watched a lot of anime, the outfits of Liesel and Julie, didn't seem impractical to me. I loved the steampunk vibe of Liesel's look. Charlotte's look was stunning too.
The transitions of the story were smooth. It was not at all difficult to keep pace with the story, as the necessary details have been incorporated. The books ends in a cliffhanger and it will be interesting to read what Van Helsing does next, now that she is alone. I would definitely recommend this book to all comic lovers.

What caught me eye about the book from the very beginning was the artwork throughout. It was spooky, had graphic violence and an interesting progression of plot. This story starts off with Liesel Van Helsing tracking down the bones of Dracula because someone has stolen them. Her main goal was to kill the person that stole it so that the bones would not be used for evil.

I would first like to point out that although I haven’t read anything from this series other than this, I really enjoyed the experience of reading it. Anyone that is familiar with the series can read this, I would not suggest doing what I did and jumping straight to this because there are some aspects that requires reading the other graphic novels to understand.

I also loved the integration of using the journal to talk about what happened in the past and actually having it drawn out because it makes the plot that more convincing and the stakes even higher. However, I was confused about the ending just because the way it ended was very suspenseful. I would also say that Dracula’s daughter is very cunning and the ending definitely proves that much more.

But overall, I can’t want to read more from this author and I would definitely buy it when it gets published!

A mysterious book with colourful art - How else would you want to see Van Helloing and Dracula's Daughter portrayed?

I will say, this book is beautiful for it's colouring. That really drew me in and kept my attention. I could have done without the super skimpy (air quote "sexy") outfits, but I guess I'm not the audience? The action and storyline would have been enough without overly sexualizing the main leads to get a few more gazes from certain individuals. It seems dumb and unrealistic to have the girls fighting in sexy shots. You can make them look just as good in pants... But, you know, I guess we weren't in this graphic novel for the story. Let's look at boobs and butts instead.

This isn't a standalone - it's in a vast series of stories. Can you read it alone? Sure. Does it make much sense? Ehhh... Kind of? I definitely was missing a lot of key elements to know fully what was going on.

Overall, the story is good for a nice read to escape from reality. It's not award winning in my mind, it's just an okay book. The colour and illustrations (minus the sexy outfits) are what really did it for me.

Two out of five stars.

Ok, normally I do a long and short version, but this one doesn’t really deserve it. The title just wasn’t very good.

I really struggled to get into it, primarily because of the over sexualized characters. I get it, comics like to put forth hot women wearing tight outfits, but this one goes way too far. Leisel van Helsing literally fights vampires, why on earth would she have SO MUCH exposed skin? Sure, she’s a great vampire hunter, but it’s not even believable, and btw that steam punk hat is awful.

This problem gets particularly problematic when the two main vampire hunters get attacked by a horde of female vampires wearing tight clothes....like really?

The plot itself was....ok. Very run of the mill for a vampire hunter story.

This was clearly written for young men who don’t expect very much from their stories. Pass!

Bikini Models Vs Vampires

Alright, I've got that out of my system, it's in for the teen (boy) age range, so I understand why the costumes are more ass than armour, and with that, I'm going to say nothing else on the nature of the artwork.

Story itself is an interesting reimagining of Dracula being brought back and the conflicts between the daughters of Van Helsing and Dracula, there's a lot of shooting, posing, and inventive weaponry, which I don't doubt will appeal it to the age range it's aimed at, certainly I'd have read it as a teenager. I do think the ending was a little Deus ex Machina, and the story wasn't finished but left on a cliffhanger, but it's a fast paced adventure that doesn't take itself seriously.

Rating given is what my teenage self would have given it, not me :)

This is part of the Liesel Van Helsing series, which I have not read before, so jumping in somewhere in the middle was confusing but not impossible to understand. In this one Dracula's daughter steals his bones back from the Van Helsing store house and leads Liesel on a chase in order to bring about her demise. This is not the end though, and dramatic things will be happening. I enjoyed the characters, even if Liesel is a little full of herself (which she totally gets from her father.) There's a "dramatic reveal" which, having not read any of the previous ones I don't know how dramatic it is. There's a few sad moments, but this moves so quickly you don't really get to process what happened. The artwork is gorgeous and I want all their costumes.

I read an ARC obtained from NetGalley.

Overall I enjoyed this story. Loved the artwork, as a cosplayer I was immediately obsessed with Van Helsing & Dracula’s daughter’s looks. I am curious where this story is going. This book definitely felt like a lot of set up. I don’t know if it’s a me issue or story issue, but there were a couple instances of “wait how did we get here all of a sudden?”. You could tell where the individual comic issues ended and the next started and i don’t mean because of the title pages. Felt like it needed a bridge between them but again that could just be a me thing.

I’ll keep my eyes open for more.

This was a happy surprise. I am always up for any retellings or reimaginings in regards to Dracula and Van Helsing. One thing Comics get so little credit for is their ability to weave illustrations to elevate the story. I had my hand over my mouth several times reading this. I do want to go back and see the backlists for some of the illustrators and writers. While I do love the art and illustrations, I will complain until the end of time that you can have PRACTICAL and SEXY costumes on your comic heroines. I love so many of the designs but they fight and fun -- let them wear comfy sexy outfits.

Van Helsing vs Dracula’s Daughter has amazing artwork and a storyline with enough twists to keep you entertained. While I enjoyed the unique additions to the Dracula/Van Helsing story, there were times I felt like I was missing something. I hadn’t read the other comics in this universe, so if you’re trying to read this as a stand-alone, be advised there are bits and pieces that are further explained elsewhere. All in all, it was a great graphic novel and I definitely want to read more.

Liesel Van Helsing is a vampire hunter like her father and in this volume, she will be facing the daughter of lord Dracula who wants to venge her father but also resurrect him. Liesle will be facing a greater threat with her friends than the usual easy to kill monsters.

Nice and entertaing book to read with badass sexy girls that can kill anything with shorts. It was fun to read but not sure I will be following it.

Now when I first got this I didn’t know it was part of a long ongoing series however though I feel that maybe if I was younger I probably would’ve liked this better to me I just found this very average there was nothing really in it that really kept my interest for a very long I found the story so so there works very nice though I think maybe a younger audience would’ve liked this better I don’t think I’m in the demographic for it I just thought it was OK.

The artwork is really nice and I liked the story. I haven't read any other comics with Liesel Van Helsing, so I wasn't sure what to expect. It's a page turner that I couldn't put it down. This feels like a complete arc as far as comics go, but I hope that there will be more so I can find out where this leads.

Van Helsing vs. Dracula's daughter stars Liesel Van Helsing, a vampire hunter and the daughter of the famed vampire hunter as she faces off against the daughter of Lord Dracula who is on a mission to avenge Dracula and resurrect him.

This was so fun and entertaining and I loved seeing strong females take the lead in this story.

My gay self was lured into this book by the prospect of Steampunk(ish) vampire hunter, and I leaped after reading in the publisher notes was the potential of a Video Game (though the timing given has passed) as well as a TV show. The latter I failed to find any information on even after spending a fair bit of time digging.
For me, when I see multi-media storytelling, I get excited, even though I know to expect disappointment.

I found this comic interesting in concept; this is most definitely something that needs to be followed for the long run to enjoy the world and characters truly. However, the way these characters are treated throughout this made me wonder if the side cast is consistently this expendable.
This made me want to know more about this series, and I found minimal direction as to where I should start with this series. There is no real numbering scheme outside of an arch (like Van Helsing vs. Dracula's Daughter). Meaning that I couldn't find a clear answer to where I should start if I were to take up this series.

If you are not actively reading this series, I can't recommend jumping in, and this is definitely not the place to start.
If you have been reading this series, this is definitely the setup for a really interesting conflict.
