A strange disappearance. A desperate plan. And a fight to bring a small boy home to safety . . .
London, 1899. On a brisk fall day, a 6-year-old boy and his nanny vanish without a trace during a trip to the London Tower. When the boy's father, Lord Rollings, is summoned to the Tower to receive ransom instructions, he immediately puts Sherlock and Lucy on the case.
The clues are scant and the tension is high - every moment that passes could bring the boy closer to danger. When a second, separate ransom demand is made, the case becomes even more convoluted, and the Baker Street team must take quick and cunning action in order to find and stop the real kidnapper.
The stakes escalate when one of the Baker Street team's own is put in mortal peril, and it becomes clear that whoever took the Rollings child will stop at nothing to keep him from being found. Can Holmes and his team rescue the boy and uncover the truth? Or will the kidnapper's desperate plot succeed?
Anna Elliott is an author of historical fiction and fantasy. She enjoys stories about strong women, and loves exploring the multitude of ways women can find their unique strengths. She was delighted to lend a hand with the Sherlock & Lucy series, and thrilled to continue a new spin-off series featuring Becky and Flynn. Her first series, the Twilight of Avalon trilogy, is a retelling of the Trystan & Isolde legend. She wrote her second series, The Pride & Prejudice Chronicles , chiefly to satisfy her own curiosity about what might have happened to Elizabeth Bennet, Mr. Darcy, and all the other wonderful cast of characters after the official end of Jane Austen’s classic work.
Sherlock Holmes occupies a very special niche. He and his compatriots could be considered a genre unto themselves. Sherlock, Dr. Watson, Mrs. Hudson, and Sherlock's brother Mycroft have provided a canvas upon which others have painted new characters. The team of Veley and Elliott have given us Lucy James who, in turn, has added Jack Kelly, and Jack's young sister Becky. In "Kidnapped at the Tower," there is an unnamed character who bears a striking resemblance to an associate of Mycroft's in another series in the Holmes genre.
"Kidnapped at the Tower" sees Sherlock, Lucy, and Dr. Watson attempting to bring young Thomas Rolling home after he disappeared at the Tower of London. His disappearance is followed by not one but two ransom demands. A kidnapping is afoot! There are few clues, if any, yet Holmes remains rather calm through an adventure with a potential for tragedy.
This quick read is a worthy addition to the canon.
London, 1899 -- On a brisk fall day, a six-year-old boy and his nanny vanish without a trace during a trip to the London Tower. When the boy's father, Lord Rollings, is summoned to the Tower to receive ransom in]structions, he immediately puts Sherlock and Lucy on the case. And so begins another Holmesian novella buy Anna Elliott & Charles Veley. I have read many Sherlock pastiches with a daughter; the Sherlock & Lucy James books by Elliott & Veley rank high along Goldberg's Daughter of Sherlock Holmes series.
“Kidnapped at the Tower” is a fast-paced and witty Sherlock Holmes novella with a labyrinth of compelling twists and turns and a surprise ending that will keep readers guessing. Although it has a good plot, it is the characters are the heart and soul of these stories with the delightful addition of Lucy ~ a brilliant daughter. Just wish the story was longer for greater development. Regardless, it was an enjoyable diversion for an hour by the fireplace.
Another will written British 🏰 mystery adventure thriller short story Sherlock and Lucy James Mystery Series book eighteen. Sherlock Holmes, Lucy James, and Watson are asked to investigate the kidnapping of a son at the tower. A lot of untruths are uncovered and the kidnapping is solved. I would recommend this novella to readers of mysteries and fans of Sherlock Holmes. Enjoy the adventure of reading or listening. 2022 😮👒
1899 Holmes' new client is a Sir Humphrey Rollings. On a visit to the Tower of London, while Lady Rollings rested nearby, their six year old son Thomas, and his nursery governess Miss Abigail Marsh disappeared, presumably kidnapped for ransom. Holmes is called into the case, and a note is delivered with the first set of instructions. An enjoyable well-written novella
The story is good as are all in this series. Enough to satisfy. Enough to keep reading more books. Enough to smile for remembrance of the original and why he had to be brought back after his death. An immortal presence brought back in 21st century form with enough of the original spirit.
Holmes and Lucy are hired to investigate the kidnapping of a young boy and his nanny. There are many twists and turns including two different ransom demands. A surprise ending. I look forward to reading the next book
Another winner in the series. A bit sadder than other stories, yet still the drive to discover the reason for the mystery. I do recommend this series to anyone who loves the Sherlock Holmes genre of detective stories.
Love the series, because it features a missing child, there is a lot of tension in this short one, should be rated 3.5. Also lots of British facts about the Tower for History lovers.
