Canine Casper Cozy Mystery #5

The Ghostly Grounds: Scandal and Supper

Rate this book
Marie Fortune, 39, a successful dog groomer in Boston, leaves the stressful life behind and heads to a small town in coastal Maine to create a new life. She remains intent on renovating the old, historic house her great-aunt left her and giving it a new life as a B&B. Yet there was one thing she couldn’t plan for: the house is haunted. Two things, actually: her great-aunt also left her a dog—and he is far from a typical dog.

When Marie is hired to cleanse a unique and massive hotel in a nearby town, the scope of it is beyond anything she has encountered before. Just as she wonders if she has finally met her match, she learns that her local Mayor is trying to re-zone the downtown—and to shut down her B&B while he’s at it. Having a murder in the mix—for which she is pinned—hardly helps matters, either. In a multi-front war for her survival, can Marie manage to purge the ghosts, stay out of jail, and keep her livelihood?

A page-turning cozy, packed with mystery, love, hauntings, travel, pets and food—anchored around a small town and a B&B in need of renovation that will capture your heart—THE GHOSTLY GROUNDS is an un-putdownable cozy series that will keep you turning pages (and laughing out loud) late into the night.

Ok so this book isn’t bad, it’s just more of the same in the life of Marie and her bestie Boo. I thought I was done after this one...BUT after reading the last page, looks like I’m going to have to read Book 6 when it comes out in August.

Marie and You and a Dog Named Boo

Canine Casper Cozy Mystery Book 5 by Sophie Love is a fine addition to this slow-paced cozy mystery series. I became a bit frustrated with the laidback progression of the story but never frustrated enough to stop reading. I wanted to tackle another haunted house with her and Boo and enjoy the helpfulness of Marie. Teaser: Marie finds herself starting a small town political hullabaloo after an unsuccessful de-ghosting.

This story was better than the previous one. Marie is starting to get a little more comfortable with her supernatural gifts. Boo continues to be the goodest dog ever. Marie did find herself caught up in a murder investigation, which is nothing new.

This one played out a little differently than the others have, so that was nice as well. The story ended a little cliffhanger-ish, so I'll definitely be checking out the next installment.

The mayor wants to re-zone the town in order for the area to "prosper" (which means for him and his friends to prosper), which means the B&B would be forced to close in 30 days.

I thought this book was slower and less interesting than the earlier books in the series.

I enjoy these cozy books. A ghost busting woman, A dog, and a cast of characters. A haunted mansion, in a little beach town in Maine. And now that she opened the door to an unexpected guest, I need to see where this takes her story. And maybe a book seven, like Midnight Snack and Murder?

This one was heartbreaking. I felt for the old man...
But I am very excited about Marie's relationship with her mother and I want to see where this goes. As well as her romantic relationship. I think Robbie is who she should be with, but what do I know?

Excellent. I love how the main character actually gets along with law enforcement. I love the mysteries of the house. I love the characters. Well done on the haunted house hunting. Good endings by on potential relationship. All around good mystery. Looking forward to the next one.

In my opinion this was the best book in the series so far. I only caught 4 grammer/spelling errors, which was nice. I look forward to the next book 📖.

Now that I read this one, I am going to go back and read the others in the series! What a great story with potential love, mystery, and murder all in one.

Love this series. Only three stars is because of all the typos! Author needs a good editor. On to the next one!

I was started to get annoyed with how easily Marie could keep investigating things and yet never let herself have good things or say yes to stuff she wants. Hoping she has finally made up her mind.

3.5. Lots of character development even as they try to find out who killed the developer trying to get rid of local businesses.

Spelling errors and very predictable.

But I enjoyed it anyway.

The subject that keeps coming up is Marie discovering the dead body of the person with whom she had a public argument.

Reading this series out of order, but entertaining and easy.
