A Contemporary Reverse Harem Romance

Silver:
My mom and I have been kidnapped by my abusive stepdad. He barricaded us in the house, took away our phones and computers. We have no one to turn to for help. We’re completely alone. Each moment that passes, I think about my Clarke boys—Noah, Archer, and Hawk—the guys who mean the world to me. The only way I get through the days is reliving every moment I shared with them.

The Clarke Boys:
Silver is the most important person in our lives, and she’s in danger. We’re trying as hard as we can to find her, save her, bring her back home with us. But how can we help when her stepdad has her under lock and key? But we won’t give up. We’ll save her. We’ll protect her. We’ll love her the way she deserves to be loved. Even if it means risking our lives.

What did I just read? I don’t understand all the 5 star reviews.
It was very cringe at times and I’m still wondering if that’s it. Is this the ending?

So, this book was slightly better than the first book and yes, by the end, it can be considered an RH...

That being said......

I found that the timeline was messed.up...
Many times they talked about how she had been living with the Clarke's for months, when in reality, it had been weeks...
And the timeline didn't match up with certain events happening...
Like they talked about the sleep over, the parties, the.club, if you are hooked on details as much as I am, you will without a doubt find errors in timelines vs events...

Read the series, and you will understand what I mean...

It's a cute read.for a young teen.audience....

Although I had originally gave a 2.5 star for The Boys Who Saved Me series, I couldn't help but feel conflicted. It had its faults but it was a totally candy-sweet book. Lots of I love yous and I admire the world out of you.

The good part is that i adored the idea and mainframe of the story. So much potential in the plot, events and developments. Sadly, I was looking for more, and was unsatisfied with how quick it ended.

The parts that I dislike about it are how there was not build up in their relationship involving the darkest parts of it. There were moments. Unfortunately, a build up where there are more actions than words is something i would liked to see. However, the flow of the story where the boys who saved her suddenly started having an epiphany because of a girl that draws them in like crazy gives the idea or impression that their pain or issues become next to non-existent and that part is unrealistic.

Truthfully, the story was a little rush in its time frame. There were developments and builds up but not deep enough. The writing of the story, in my opinion was skimming the pretty surface of a delicacy and the love was am-in-awe-of-you, crush-love and sweet-love was not a love that i crave. I guess I was looking for something alike with Finding Their Muse by Bea Paige.

Am i asking for more ? Yes, yes i am. Nevertheless, one must not discredit the writer for a well edited story overall. This book may not be it for me, but it might be for you. Don't give up on one book because of one review. It's important to draw your own thoughts as it is a great possibility that this might be the book for you. If your looking for sweet and safe.

Happy Reading !
Sincerely,
Lady Havergal.

Surface Level and Repetative

It was ridiculous the number of times I read either:

- “Thank you” “I don’t know how to express how much I appreciate you!” “I just did this to shout you how much I appreciate you!” This one was the worst. It just became annoying.

- Getting trapped in a compliment trap. “You’re the best!” “No you’re the best!” (Like literally when Silver and Noah went to the movie they went back and forth like this like three times.)

-Asking personal questions just to then say, you don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to.

-Becca and Noah arguing over making meals. (Polite “I’ll get it!” “No I’ll get it!” Kind of arguing)

-Getting lost in their thoughts while explaining something to the reader and then a “Hey I think you zoned out!” From someone else.

These showed up written different but they happened over and over and over again.

The bullying was the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever read and the ending was very awkward. I was disappointed they didn’t resolve the bullying stuff. Like they should have had a more significant ending.

Would not recommend.

I love how the Clarke boys saved Silver. And how they loved her. I wouldn’t necessarily call this reverse harem. Yes, at the end she does end up having all three of them as her boyfriend. But, when I think of reverse harem, I think more spice. There was kissing, but that’s about all.
Overall it was a cute romance about all of them finding themselves.

Found this book so tedious to read, the plot was plain and without much going on. The ending felt too packed compared to the middle which was really annoying. This book could’ve been added into the first one. Could’ve easily been a standalone.

Genre/Tropes: Contemporary, RH
POV: 1st, Multiple
Series: The Boys Who Saved Me Duet
STEAM LEVEL: 🔥

So, it wasn’t bad.

This was a clean, emotional, juvenile story about Silver, Hawk, Archer, and Noah. Silver and her mom are running from her stepdad and end up at the Clarke’s home in the middle of a storm. The Clarke’s are struggling themselves with death and past trauma. Each boy has pain in their eyes and survive in different ways. Noah is the worrier and tried to take care of everyone. Hawk works out until he collapses and keeps to himself. Archer drinks and flirts and acts out.

Silver is cautious, shy, and naive. Gawd, that girl was innocence personified. But she was also an endearing character. Compassionate. Observant.

At the end of book 1 , the stepdad shows up and throws the boys into turmoil when Silver disappears. This makes them question things. How they feel, how important Silver is to them all. Lots of OTT drama with school bullies, but it was also kinda addictive.

Overall, this duet is heavy on teenage angst, but I appreciated the care taken in distinguishing each guy and their relationship development with Silver. We get one kiss each, so this is completely clean, but every once in a while I like just an easy romance and this is what that was. Not fantastic, but not bad either.

I don’t normally give below 3 stars but really?
It’s like this book was written as one of the purely adult novels but without the adult parts. I thought maybe it had a few years in between book one and book two that made up for them being teens it doesn’t. I even read book two just in case. I mean there was some foul language within the convoluted storyline but that and the various forms of abuse was about as adult as this book got. If I was a person who DNF’d books it would have been these. I was hoping it got better in the second it doesn’t.

Some of these reviews are saying these are great books for teens or YA but they aren’t. It’s literally the opposite of a good book for a teen. It’s gives exactly the examples of what NOT to do in every situation.

Have a teen struggling with physical abuse at home? Don’t report it even though you have video evidence of it. Resulting in the deaths and injuries of multiple victims.
Have a teen struggling with alcoholism/substance abuse? Oh I got it! Have them pin all their hopes, dreams, and sobriety on a girl they have known for barely a few months. Sounds like an amazing way to deal.
Have a teen struggling with the sudden loss of a parent? Have them also pin all their emotional well being on the same girl that their brother’s sobriety depends on.

Well?

Ok this is a review for both this book and the first one The boys who saved me. First off I think the titles should have gone the other way around because they Healed her in the first one. She even says so and they save her in this one.

Next I get why it's called an rh romance but also don't I mean she kisses on boy in the first one at the end. Then she says yes to being his gf in the middle of this one and then kisses another but quickly realized what happened and said something to the one that kissed her he's freaked and then says not to say anything then at the end the boys have a talk with each other and go to her to tell her and let her chose she chose all and that's that they go one one date and its at the end of the book. So yeah idk

And third it was a good story about a mom and daughter escaping a bad domestic abuse situation finding a safe harbor getting their life batter and then being found and kidnapped be their abuser then saved by the boys and their dad being bullied in school the mom almost getting killed and then them all saying they're together the end

Don’t do it

This was hard for me because I wanted to like it so bad. The plot was there and so were the male characters however the story never grew. It was so anticlimactic and predictable, I mean literally copy paste in some parts. So much if it was the same exact wording even the situations were the same.

***SPOILER ALERT***

Silver erked my nerves so much because this girl is so “tough” she stood up to her abusive stepdad but yet she’s ok with being bullied. She likes Asher but pushed him to still cater to the other girls to avoid conflict. The guy’s protecting her bothered her because of their “tempers” but again she wouldn’t stand up for herself. She was so naive and immature and honestly lacked backbone. She was such a damsel in every sense of the word and I prefer stronger female leads. I read the entire story waiting for her character to grow and it neeeever does.

I’m nervous to read anymore from this author because the characters were such a let done. Lastly it’s only a reverse harem at the last 20-25 % of the book, it mostly reads as friends that have an attraction with each other. I’m so disappointed.

This book picks up right where the last one left off...

Silver and her mom Becca are with Silver's step-dad...not by choice. Karl, Archer, Noah, and Hawk are all searching for the women who changed their lives.

I really liked this book so much more than the last. Why? We get Archer and Hawk's story. We learn what happened to those boys growing up. The reader also sees some crazy character development with all the characters which was needed. You have the drama and romance.

Regarding the reverse harem though...normally that seems to be spicy which isn't the case here. But even so the reverse harem part doesn't even happen till the very end. You get the romance built up with all the characters but just a heads up for those wanting the harem part.

Overall I'm happy with the way the series ended.

This is the second part of the duet. It starts with the abusive father having kidnapped Silver and her mom Becca and how the Clarke family saves them. The frustration at not being able to do anything is believable. The internal reflection of all three boys is well brought out. Archer and Hawk’s struggles evoke empathy. The emotions are all there but it lacked something for me. For YA readers this one might be a nice easy read but more mature audiences might need more.

The character development was good and back stories felt believable.
The story had great potential but to me it ended up more like a teenager writing for other teenagers. Maybe in the hands of a more nuanced writer it could have been exceptional.

potential

This book has sooo much potential, SO MUCH. The plot, amazing. However, there is a distance between reader and character due to the writing. There is so much naivety in the book. I found my self cringing/rolling my eyes more times than not. It’s written in away that 12 year old me would have loved this book but adult me is struggling. I’m sitting on the surface reading but I can’t fully dive in (if that makes sense) I’m in no way saying that this book is terrible, it’s good. It’s just lacking and poorly written. Plot is what held me in. Many of the lines are unfortunately childish. I want to LOVE this book but I can’t. Maybe someday if it’s ever rewritten I’ll give it another read!

(It wouldn’t let me put the dates but I started and finished 4/25 2023)

I liked this book a lot. Was it one of my favorites? No. It was still really good though. The first thing that put me off a bit was the lack of 🌶️. Which I guess I just assumed since it was a RH that it would have spice (that’s on me). I also feel like it wasn’t written the best. I think the writing could’ve been more detailed. I also feel like things were kind of unrealistic? I don’t want to spoil but I just feel how things played out weren’t realistic and that the author could’ve definitely stretched the book longer. The book also made me cringe sometimes because it’s your classic brother RH trope which I don’t dislike but it also was the one golden boy 2 traumatized boys.

Welp this duology recked me! I feel like I’ve been In a haze for the past couple days just wondering what was going to happen next to silver her mom and the Clarke boys.
Silver and her mother Becca escape a abusive relationship and end up finding safety with Karl and his 3 sons. Each character has gone through rough times and each go through healing as they grow closer together. There is clearly a romantic element to the story and you’re left wondering who she will pick at the end of the first book. Let me tell you I was not happy with the ending of the second book! 93% in. almost done and there is a massive gross twist that I just can’t believe the writer wrote. I’ve never felt so appalled! The first book I gave 5 stars the second 1. Don’t even bother.

This book and the previous have major issues. No real depth to characters or how they got here in their lives. One blaringly irriating part was when Silver and her mom come back to the Clarke's house after being kidnapped for 9 days, and silver says something like 'Coming back brought back so many memories'. They were only guests in the house for what seems like 2 weeks, then they lived at their apartment for 2, maybe 3 weeks, then kidnapped for 9 days. It brought back so many memories??? You've only been gone from the house a month and you only spent a little bit of time there to begin with. There are so many more inconsistencies that it just was not an enjoyable book.

URGH. I found this book via TikTok. It was advertised as a passionate book, but there wasn't any passion. It was SLOW, a lot of repetitive looks, and thanks for having them, and apologising for asking questions. And it was 16 yer olds which I was not expecting. It's listed as RH so I was expecting something RH like. And I thought a time jump was coming or something. So we could get to the RH stuff without them being 16. And so I kept reading. 2 books, 500 pages. 5 makeout sessions.

This might make a nice YA book, but then some of the toxic behaviours isn't really something a YA should read and think it's great. I dunno. Wasn't for me anyway.

So much cheese!

I swear the interaction between Silver and the guys are some of the cheesiest I’ve ever read. I didn’t know a RH series could be so cheesy and cliche. Like maybe I’m too old for this series because I truly felt like I was watching live sick teens experience their first love. Constantly rolling my eyes at all the corniness. I feel like this book could have been so much more! Like if situations were taken a little bit farther and of Silver developed a little bit of back bone. The base was there but it needed more something!

DNF

This could’ve been a good book but I stopped over halfway through, I checked the reviews and saw no spice. If this had something to hold me on I would’ve powered through it was just such a hard read. Poorly written dialogue, very cheesy back and forth I agree with another reviewer if I was 12 this would’ve been great. Also, I know I shouldn’t judge a book by the cover lol, but the model on the cover looks 20+ years old lol and not the 17-18 (?) that she is. Idk needs to be revamped

Very PG!

I really have enjoyed this book. There are also a few unexpected twists which makes it even greater. I think it could have easily have been padded out with way more information. There's nothing even remotely steamy. It's a good, fun, light hearted duet. So if you want something that is super sweet with a touch of high school drama then pick it up. Great way to introduce teens into the rh world

The ending was wrapped up pretty quickly; it went from still having the threat from Silver's stepfather and being bullied a lot in school to sudden happily ever after. And despite it being a duology, it felt a bit superficial, I never really connected with any of the characters. It wasn't a bad story, and the writing was okay, but the dialogue was supposed to be sweet and deep, but it turned out kinda sappy and cringey.

Just like with the first book I'm not sure reverse harem really applies in the way we usually think about it... No spice (WHICH IS UNDERSTANDABLE), it's a story of escaping and healing from an abusive situation, told through the view of 16 year olds.
I flip-flopped on what rating to give this and settled on 4 stars because at the end of the day, this isn't a bad book when you view it as what it is. A sweet teenage why-choose romance with plenty of angst and insecurity thrown in.

There is A LOT of annoying cheesiness. I don't mind a bit of cheese, but half of this book is them saying sorry to her and doing stuff for her and them arguing who is the best, the most perfect one. Gets boring after a while. It definitely has good parts, too. I wanted to give it 3 stars, but the ending ruined it for me. Not into RH.

I found myself fighting not to put this on my DNF shelf. The overall plot is good but the details throughout are very repetitive and it begins to drone on and on like the writer was trying to fill space to meet a page quota. I wish it was all one book and cut a majority of the repetitive back story out.

Ok. So it was a nice, quick read , but i didn't like it much. It was ok, but it could be better. The author, Mia Belle was kind of rude in some parts and Silver is so cringe. Oh and also, WHAT THE FUDGE IS SILVER. The name is insane. Honestly, character development was fine, but everything else was NOT

I really wanted to find out what happened to everyone after the book1 ending and even though I did enjoy some of it, it was still a little disappointing. The story was a little unbelievable at times but I'm glad I read it.
