Kingdom of Curses and Shadows #2

The Curse and the Prince

Rate this book
A troubled prince.
A deadly curse.
A mysterious cup.
And the power to save or doom the kingdom.

Of course things didn’t go as planned at the Royal Games. When do things go as planned?

Now Zora is on the run, and has to join a disgraced prince in order to retrieve a powerful magical artifact that might undo her valley’s curse. For the first time in her life, she has real hope for her people.

Problem is, for the second time in her life, she’s falling for someone she shouldn’t. Finding a hidden object is hard enough on its own, she could do without the heart palpitations and lack of air. And she could certainly focus better without the constant memory of his lips on hers, his arms around her… Gaah! See? How can she avoid pursuers and decipher enigmatic writings when her brain has been turned to mush? Painful, hopeless mush.

But the real trouble is that there’s more than one curse in the kingdom. And not enough objects or time to get rid of them all.

The Curse and the Prince is book 2 in the series Kingdom of Curses and Shadows, an enemies-to-lovers or hate-to-love YA romantic fantasy for readers 15 and up who love witty banter, adventure, and magic.

✅ World-building
🆗 Plot
🆗 Pace
🆗 Characters
❌ Dialogues
❌ Romance / flirt

Ok, it seems that I am the only one really disappointed by this book. Why am I the only one?! I am sorry, there is a small rant coming.

The world-building is well done, as in the first book, and the shadow-creatures and their origin is intriguing, but everything else was so disappointing.

First, let's talk about the plot. It goes NOWHERE for the first half of the book. Zora and Griffin escaped, took care of their wounds, got captured, and went back to the castle, and had to escape again. That's the first half of the book. Many things happened in the second half, but I was not really involved in the plot at that point sadly.

My main issue though was the characters and the silly, immature, and cringy wannabe flirt/romance. The dialogues between Zora and Griffin are weird and choppy, I swear I laughed out loud a few times, and I rolled my eyes so often I got scared that they would stay stuck up there. He has experience with the ladies and she got some experience too with Seth, but their conversations felt SO immature at times. They were all shy and trying to hide their feeling while blurting things like "Oh! that's why you were the most beautiful" because they couldn't control their mouth and then spending half a page wondering about what he really meant when he said "the most beautiful" or how she would react to the comment and trying to change the subject.

"It was like a knife in her gut thinking about the two of them together."

Zora was being super dramatic over the fact that Griffin had sexual relationships with Alegra... I mean, she knew about it in the first book and didn't make such a big deal out of it, so I don't see why there was so much inner drama about it in this book. Honestly, the romantic drama between them felt forced and it was just awkward to read. It felt like two young teenagers being clumsy when talking about their feelings, rather than two almost adults with experience.

Here's another good one :
“Women,” she added. “We bleed. We have a cycle.” He frowned in confusion. Zora rolled her eyes. Men. Of course he had no idea what she was talking about.

But how clueless can you be Griffin?! You're not 10 years old, are you? You've had sex before? Surely you know the basics of the woman's body? As I said, I rolled my eyes many times. 🙄🙄🙄

Larzen had the potential to be interesting, and he was probably one of my favorite characters in the first book because of all his scheming but ended up being disappointing. There is also the issue of the weird banter/flirting/sarcasm between Larzen and Alegra ... I think the goal might have been to create a connection or maybe hint at a future romance, but it just seemed forced and unrealistic. Again, their dialogues were cringy and chopped and immature and just weird considering their context.

“I’m so incredibly skilled you have no idea, Riadne. And it has no correlation with my physique. And you know I’m bigger, I mean, taller than my brother, right? And I’m ripped. Absolutely ripped. I can show you.”

Seriously dude? That's the best you came up with? In the context you were in? Did it seem appropriate and clever at that moment? 🙄

And to finish with the characters, I didn't give a damn about Lucas and Tris, two newly added characters that we know next to nothing about and serve no purpose besides being used as a threat on another character.

So yeah, I was definitely not a fan of this book. The plot is not so bad, and the book is short, but I still ended up skimming some chapters because the romance and dialogues were too painful. The writing style at times is more like a middle-grade book than a YA fantasy honestly.

4 entertaining stars!

Book #2 picked up right where book #1 finished (if you need a refresher then flick to the back of the book – there’s a summary of book #1 there), with Griffin and Zora on the run, and a whole variety of enemies at their back. Now, I’ll admit, I could barely remember anything from book #1 (I have really horrible memory, what can I say), but thankfully it wasn’t that difficult to work out what was going on! I’d forgotten quite a few of the side characters, but once I worked all that out, this book was heaps of fun and super entertaining!

Our MC was as sassy as ever, which I loved (her feminist quotes were so inspirational, I feel like I should be writing them on my ceiling so I see them every day when I wake up) and though the romance seemed to progress slowly in some stages – and yet super quickly in others – I found Zora’s relationship with Griffin quite adorable. Their trust in one another developed as they finally told each other all their lies, and though they had a fair few fights, they were always able to forgive one another by the end.
But lord, Zora did NOT let Griffin rest as she persisted in her persuit to prove he was a sexist jerk in book #1.

“Oh, by the Light, would you look at that? He has done one thing for women and therefore nothing he says or thinks can ever be sexist.”

Go off, babe! Take him down (I may love Griffin, but I love feminism more).

We also got a variety of other POVs in book #2 – getting to read more about the middle prince, mysterious enchantress, and real princess of Linaria. I actually quite likes Riadne, she grew on me, and some of the things she said really stuck with me.

“There was no point lamenting the past; she had to fix her future.”

As well as the characters, the storyline was quite well written! We didn’t get as much of the Dark Valley as I hoped, unfortunately, but maybe we’ll get more shadow creatures in book #3 (in fact, I’m almost certain we will…. *wink wink*). Nonetheless, I enjoyed the adventure and mystery involved in this novel, and look forward to continuing the series!

Heaps of fun :)). Thank you so much to the author and Favourite Pages Book Club for the free review copy!

I received an advance review copy for free from the author, via BookSirens, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Oh my God, this was so much better than the first book!

Where do I even start? The crying was down to a minimum this time, so that improved my mood instantly. Also, there were some secrets being kept, some angst always present, which made for an intriguing romance even though there was instalove.

I also really loved the addition of more POVs, we had 5, I think, though I would have liked more from Tris' POV too. I loved them so much I actually ended up shipping the secondary couple, Larzen and Riadne, much more than Zora and Griffin. I don't know, I just don't have that much of an interest in Zora and Griffin because of instalove, but Larzen and Riadne had so much more angst and mistrust, really adding to the romance. It still turned out to be slightly instalove by the end, but I can deal with it better now.

I loved the plot progression, though I wanted more time spent in the Dark Valley than they did, and I didn't completely understand why they went back to the palace in the first place, but you know what, it all added to the drama and I was having fun, so we're just going to ignore all of that.

I feel like all the stuff that was revealed was done pretty well, because while I did guess some things, some things were big surprises! I want to know more about what exactly is up with Kiran, because we already established that it wasn't the normal thing, but I want to know more! I also want more from Tris and Lukas' maybe romance? I feel like there could be something there...

Overall, I'm definitely much more interested in the plot and world than I am in the main romance, and I definitely want more slow burn and misunderstandings and angst from Larzen and Riadne! I love the depth of her character, and so much of the first book makes so much more sense now!

The writing was definitely better in this book, I didn't feel that level of jarring-ness from this book, and I hope it stays like this for the next book!

I honestly have nothing else to say because I am dying to start the next one, so I'll just end this here :D

On the whole, an amazing sequel. I'd recommend it to readers of the first book who might have felt the instalove was bad or that the writing wasn't completely up their alley, because it definitely improved in this book!

Together, hope and fury were more than a flame in her heart; they formed a scorching blaze that would burn down this Kingdom of Shadows with everything in it.

In the Cup and the Prince, Zora and Griffin escape the palace after Kieran tried to assassinate his brother for being with his fiancée, Allegra. Since Zora killed the lion, she technically won the games and should be able to find the famous cup. But first they must go to the Dark Valley, so that her parents heal her wounds. On the way, Griffin realizes that there will be a new moon and, therefore, he will transform into the famous monster that makes him his curse.

Both manage to overcome the night and reach the Valley, however, they must resume the journey so as not to be captured by the palace guards and because, now more than ever they must find the cup, the only way to cure Griffin's curse and perhaps even the Valley's, and only Zora can do it, but unfortunately she has no idea even where to start.
Perhaps it was still guilt. Perhaps it was something else, one of those unidentifiable feeling from a strange, hard-to-reach place that she couldn't really translate into words. Or maybe it was just a normal urge to help someone in need. An urge to smile and give him hope. Make him believe that everything would be fine, that everything was possible. Even if it wasn't.

Meanwhile, Larzen finds out about everything that has happened and that Kieran wants to murder his brother and begins to extort Allegra to fix things. Allegra's initial plan was to get the three brothers to murder each other, even knowing there was a mathematical impossibility 😂, but when she saw Zora desperately trying to save Griffin, she couldn't avoid helping them escape and completely ruin her own plan. Now she just wants to leave the palace and return to her brother, but neither Kieran nor Larzen will allow it.

Larzen decides to go behind Griffin to convince him leaving the kingdom, and takes Allegra with him. They may not trust each other, but both want to save their brothers.

Zora is sure that Griffin has no real interest in her other than getting the cup and maybe having fun along the way, besides her relationship with Seth left her unwilling to get close to someone else, but she is unable to deny her attraction to Griffin, less when he seems equally interested… and when they just have one hammock (I love this twist on the cliché of the only bed 🤣).
But there was so much they had to do, so much to figure out, she'd better not get even more distracted than she already was. And by the Light, Griffin was distracting.

I honestly believe that Day Leitao has a kind of super power to make others happy, as well as transporting you to the world that she is presenting.

Anyway, in this book I felt at one point that I was in a cloud of ultimate happiness… only to immediately suffer a looooong fall. Day gave me the world in a crystal ball only to smash it on the ground as I watched. But at least she left me with hope.

Another thing that I have loved about these books is that I feel like everything is explained. Like their way of life in the valley. In this case, for example, Griffin mentions more than once that Zora had lighter hair ends, and I was quite struck by it, but she explains it in a moment and it blew me away not to think about it.
"You lighten the tips?"
"Lots of people do in the valley." She chuckled. "After all, we fight the dark."

I was so shocked with Allegra's character. I hated her, and even though she helped them once, I thought she was nothing but a selfish woman that suddenly got a little of conscience. Yet, she is way more than that.
"Fine, fine. Don't forget it. Just... listen to me as if I weren't the most evil creature you've ever met, as if I were capable of good intentions sometimes. As if I were a normal human being, someone who makes mistakes sometimes, gets taken by anger, jealously, hatred, but who can also love and have compassion. I'm not a bad person, Larzen."

Her life has been extremely hard, and she had to learn to live one day at a time, and doing what was necessary for surviving. My favorite quotes from this book are from her, I mean, I still don't love her, but now I can understand.
"I live one day at a time. And today, you know what we have to do, right? Get up this mountain, so let's keep going. Tomorrow's problems are tomorrow's problems."

Now, and just to be critical, I must say that there are moments that bothered me in the writing, especially repetitive phrases like when Zora remembered that he was a prince in love with Allegra. Anyway it doesn't change my opinion, I'm loving this series.

Damn, I just realized that there are still many questions to answer… At least I know that we will have an answer for all of them in the next one, because they are things that have been continually mentioned 🤷‍♀️.

I hope everyone would read this book, I think is exactly what we need in a moment like this, where everything seems to be wrong in the world, but we can still keep our hope.
Happiness was never perfect... Happiness was in the small moments, in freedom. Everyone would leave this world one day, so every single life ended in death. And it didn't mean it wasn't happy. Perhaps she didn't have much longer to live, but that was what she was going to chase: happiness.

I was so excited to read The Curse and the Prince, especially after the major cliffhanger in book one! As the story begins, Zora and Griffin, hunted by Griffin’s brother, journey to find the cup in the hopes of breaking curses that plague Griffin and their world.

The story is told from several perspectives, which works well since the characters are in different places throughout the story. As Zora and Griffin search for the cup, Larzen and Raidne remain behind and face their own obstacles. Knowing the thoughts and feelings of these (and a few other) characters gives a well-rounded view of what is happening.

I like that we see a more vulnerable side to the characters in this book, and I feel like many of the characters go on an emotional journey in addition to their physical journey. Zora, Griffin, Larzen, and Raidne all go through so much throughout the novel, and it’s interesting to see their characters grow and change.

Zora and Griffin grow closer, and both begin to let their guard down. Zora also begins to trust others again and becomes a bit more honest with herself. She faces her feelings, as does Griffin, and it’s fantastic. You can feel Zora’s hesitancy and fears of rejection, as well as her feelings of inferiority. I like how she becomes more confident and more sure of herself and Griffin’s feelings as the story progresses.

The story delves into Larzen’s story more, which I found fascinating. He is so mysterious and complex, and I love his enigmatic personality. In this book, we see more than just the manipulative and conniving brother. His fears, lies, and past actions are revealed and add such depth to his character.

Larzen’s blossoming romance with Raidne is also intriguing and a bit dangerous. The foundation of the relationship is built on lies, deceit, and threats, but underneath it all is an undeniable longing and glimmers of honesty. The conversations that Larzen and Raidne have when they are honest and real are some of my favorite parts of the story, and I’m curious to see what happens to this couple as the series continues.

The story has a ton of action with several revelations, and the plot is really well-layered. Prophesies, riddles, mysterious places, deadly enemies, ancient curses, shadow creatures, and more plague the main characters, and there is rarely a calm moment.

The ending, like the first book, ends on a cliffhanger. Many questions remain unanswered, and I can’t wait to find out what happens next. Thanks so much to Booksirens and the author for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I thought I almost died from the cliffhanger in the first book, but the ending to this one was even more suspenseful. I found myself at a loss for words when I reached the end. I'm a little heart broken that I have to wait so long for the final piece of the story. Once again Day Leitao has drawn me in and hooked me with this magical story. In this book we get to grow closer to the characters and fall just a little more in love with each one. I loved watching the characters grow and develop. I especially loved watching Zora open herself up to the opportunity to love. I was surprised to find myself liking Alegra/Riadne and starting to love Larzen by the end. We learn some of the history and legends behind the curse on Zora's beloved Dark Valley and Griffin's curse. And there is so much action in this book its almost impossible to put it down.

I found the continuation to be as good as the first book, maybe even better for me, because the romance was more developed and we got to see two more potentially couples and that solified it for me, because I loved the chemistry between these characters!

I also loved how in this book there were mentions of things we don't meet often in fantasy books, such as period, cramps etc. I love the fact that our heroine is hesitant when it comes to physical attraction, even though she's more certain emotionally. Not every human feels the same when it comes to sexual activities and we should respect that.

This book has different vibe and setting than the first one that was more focused in the royal games, the castle life and the relationships our heroine had built in there. This one is much more adventurous and I loved the twist at the end and it definitely makes you wanna grab the next book right away.

“Hope and fury were more than a flame in her heart; they formed a scorching blaze that would burn down this Kingdom of Shadows with everything in it.”

In The Curse and the Prince, Zora engages in a journey to escape the king. Kiran is hunting down Griffin, intent on killing the prince and harming whoever dares come his way---including Zora. Secrets are being uncovered, answers that only provoke more burning questions. Answers leading to the better...or the worse.

In the second installment of The Kingdom of Curses trilogy, a few personas were frankly out of character. Zora's burning desire to save the Dark Valley diminished on a huge level, for instance but I observed this was only in the first few chapters. Larzen had turned saintly, which I didn't understand at first but hey, this guy has been a complicated puzzle since the beginning. And I love him so! (I currently live for Larzen and Riadne banters.)

This book showed a plethora of evidences that Day Leitao's writing style improved. Her writing exudes AND provokes completely raw emotion. Pulling at the heartstrings, tickling us just the right way.

I had absolutely no idea the plot would turn out to be so complex and intricate as the series went! I was even alarmed that perhaps the series will be finished quickly...but mysteries are being uncovered, answers to them becoming less vague---intricate nonetheless. We owe this great pleasure to the astounding world building performed by the author. I'm a self-proclaimed ‘simp’ when it comes to that aspect of this story! There's even, what, another realm!?

ARCs given to me are collecting in so great a pile. Yet I couldn't help myself from having The Curse and the Prince cut through the line, reading it after 3 days of ‘avoiding’ it, trying in vain to read other books first. Why? Because this series is so promising, the author more so: Day Leitao is an absolute genius.

So if you're looking into making a mess of your emotions, overheating your brain, riding a virtual rollercoaster, this book is your perfect go-to.

I received a free copy in exchange for my honest review, and this is my personal review.

The curse and the prince is one of my more anticipated sequels of this year, and everything in this book occurred right where we finished the cup and the prince, and also this book has a summary of almost all of the things that happened in the last book.

I was most of the time shocked and analyzing everything everytime I finished a chapter, because this has a lot of shocking plot twists just like the last book but this time the twists were more like explainable but at the same time it led me to more questions.

The last book only got the perspective of Zora and Griffin, and in this one, the thing I love is that we get to see almost all of the characters point of view, despite the fact that Tris point of view was one that I didn’t understood at the start but then after the things that happened to her, we lose her and we don’t know anything until the last chapters.

I also think it was the best knowing Larzen and Riadne’s point of view because they were the ones that brought up more of the twists and things that I didn’t expected, and I love more Larzen now that I did before, and this made me think that this book is not just about Zora but about the secrets and all the thing that were hidden in the past.

Another thing I need to bring here it’s the fact that I personally think that there should be a book talking about those events in the past that led to the creation of the Dark Valley, and explain the whole truth but in the past, and also I think that in the next book should be included a map of the continent of kingdom where they’re living because I really want to know more.

Last but not least, I will give this book 4.5 stars because it was interesting and it gave me the time of my life but I didn’t like some things, and this became more shocking as I was advancing to it.

Keep reading, and thanks Day Leitao for giving me this advanced copy, I appreciated it a lot, I hope you read my review and I hope you like it.

Original rating 3.5/5

After 'The Cup and the Prince', book 2 had been a tad bit of disappointment for me. The first few chapters were fast paced while the middle part of the book just dragged. World building was good and the plot had potential too. But the execution somehow fell flat. Another confusing part was the distance between the different parts of the kingdom. Everyone was moving too fast, either on horseback or by walking. (Remember the final season of GoT? Something similar happened here as well).

One thing I admire about the story is author's frankness with mensuration cycle. The protagonist Zora's period cramps, her worries about maintaining hygiene while still on the run, men's ignorance about this, I mean, let's face it, how often have you seen this talked about in books? I liked the unexpected and delightful chemistry that sparked between Larzen and Riadne. Sometimes even better than Zora and Griffin's.

First of all, i want to give a big thanks to the author for providing a free copy in exchange for an honest review. This in no way affects my rating or review.

Day Leitao did it AGAIN!!
THAT ENDING!! WOW

The Curse and the Prince kept up to my expectations and didn't dissapoint at all. She knows how to keep her readers entertained and hooked in the story, there's plot twists that i didn't see coming, the characters are amazing and i never got bored.

I was so excited to read this sequel since i really liked the first book, i'm glad the wait wasn't much. I binge read it, it was so addictive, i have to admit that i was kinda in a reading slump and this book made the difference, personally i like the plot because it involves magic, action, adventure, romance, some mystery and fierce protagonists with a touch of humor, so basically all the elements i like in one book, i felt like if i was reading Throne of Glass which is one of my favs.

I kinda like this one better than The Cup and the Prince, since the story is more unfolded, it has new and different povs, the plot twists catched my interest and the worldbuilding is great. I really enjoyed Riadne's pov, she's def my fav. her backstory is interesting, also Allegra's there's still much to know about her and her intentions. I liked Larzen more, and the fact that Zora's and Griffin's relationship didn't feel rushed, i like how Day Leitao dealt their realationship. The whole stuff about the cup, the ancient curse, other kingdoms, dark magic and creatures, family secrets, they're all entwined somehow and i love it. Lastly, that ending killed me! i didn't even saw THAT coming either!.

I definetely enjoyed this book, i'm more than excited to read the final book and to know how it all will unfold and end. Hoping for the best! :D

Hi bookworms! Today I am reviewing The Curse and the Prince by Day Leitao. I'd like to thank the author for giving me a copy in exchange for an honest review! (Since this is a sequel, beware of the possibility of spoilers for the first book!)

After the events of the first book, The Cup and the Prince, Zora is on the run with a disgraced prince. They both are on a quest to find a powerful magic artifact that might end her valley's curse. To make matters even more complicated, she's falling for someone she shouldn't. Between running for her life and figuring out there's more than one curse in the kingdom, Zora is running out of time.

Let me tell you these books are so fast paced! I flew through this one in two days! The plot was very captivating and exciting. Even though I read the first book in October, I immediately was sucked back into the world and characters. We begin right where the first book left off, and I really loved that! I didn't feel any disconnect from the story and I remembered what was happening right away. Another thing I also appreciated was the slow and realistic nature of Zora's relationship, it didn't feel rushed or unnatural. While that element is very entertaining, I also enjoyed that it wasn't the sole focus of the story, we also have a lot of action scenes and political intrigue. The multiple perspectives also allowed me to get a deeper grasp of what was happening in the castle. While Zora is probably my favourite character, there is a new plot line that we are introduced to that definitely grabbed my attention. If you like cliffhanger endings this series is for you! The ending of the first book left me wanting more, but this ending is even more exciting! I need the third book ASAP!

If you thought the first book was good, you will surely not be disappointed with the second installment. I think that this sequel was just as good, if not better than the first book. Warning, if you thought the cliffhanger for the first book was crazy and hard to deal with the end of the second book will blow you out of the water. I read this entire book in one night, so needless to say I couldn't put it down.

Throughout this book, we follow Zora and Griffin on their journey in hope of finding the cup. It has many twists and turns and does well at keeping you on your toes. We also see what is happening back at the castle with Griffin's two brothers and the Princess throughout their journey. Throughout the entire book, you feel at times that you are right there with them and just want to reach out and grab one, or more, of the characters.

Day does a great job of giving you an immersive experience, with great storytelling, and imagination. I cannot wait for the third and final book to be released, although I will be sad when it is all over. I also just want to take a moment and thank Day for allowing me to read an ARC copy of this in exchange for an honest review. I read this from about 10 pm to 4 am and immediately messaged Day to let her know how much I enjoyed it. I think the true test to any book for me is if I finish, or at least want to finish, an entire book in one night and this one did not fail.

I absolutely loved this book. The adventure, the tension, the awkwardness. I loved it all.

There are adult themes in this book, nothing explicit, but you obviously know what’s going on. There are two almost spicy scenes but they are short and, again, nothing explicit.

Just like with the first book The Cup And The Prince, i devoured it in no time with a lot of action and emotion every step of the way.
After the huge cliffhanger in the end of book one from the trilogy, i was happy to see that in the Curse And The Prince we are back in the exact same place where we left it, without missing a beat.
Our beloved characters Zora and prince Griffin are on the run , after the turbulent final of the games and the bizarre order of king Kiran to hunt and kill his own brother.
I think in the second book we see a more hesitant and vulnerable side of Zora and her inner struggle on one side to allow herself to trust again and let someone get close to her, and on the other side her struggle to choose between saving the man she falls in love with or saving her village....but in the end she is totally surprised that nothing is what she thinks it is and the salvation of both is more of a complex and dangerous puzzle than firstly thought.
Still can't make my mind about Griffin's character to be honest....too all over the place emotionally and i couldn't shake of the feeling that we didn't get clean cut with his Alegra emotions and they left lingering for me throughout the whole book and nagged me annoyingly.
Larzen on the other hand turned to be more of an enigma compared to the first book....we see more complex feelings from his side and little cracks of emotion and not only the always calculating and cunning side of him.His interactions with Riadne and all the back and forth was amusing and can't wait to see how their side of things will evolve.
Again the ending was more crushing and again on a bigger cliffhanger than you expect and cant help but ask "What are we going to do after all that?!" .

The Cursed and the Prince has everything from the first book, The Cup and the Prince, and more. Dai Leitao adds prophecies and riddles to it, which had me marking every clue and trying to decipher the story of The Dark valley and Princess Allegra.
.
In this second book the schemings are falling and revealing the things that were left unsaid in the first book.
.
I can't give it five stars when it leaves me hanging on the end like this🙈. I wanted to throw the book away when I realized that the pages were not enough for the end. I trust Dai Leitao won't keep us waiting too long, I really hope 🙏.
.
Zora is an incredible character and she grows page by page, gaining strength and maturity in every opinion and decision she makes. In contrast there is much more to see about Allegra and Prince Larsen, their stories and personal mortifications and how they get tangled up in each other's path, each alliance that is formed has a key point in what I suppose will be a good ending. This book is a great fantasy story with characters that feel real in every action, the feminist statements and the open conversations.
.
Thanks to Dai Leitao for let me read this great book, it really enjoyed and definitely i will expecting, eating my nails of course, for the next book in this Kingdom of Curses and Shadows serie

I loved book #1 The prince and the Cup last year. It was one of my favorite reads and really helped me in the middle of a book slump. So when Day Leitao offered me a chance to read and review her new book I JUMPED at the chance. I'm so very grateful!
So in book 2 The Curse and the Prince we see things change a bit. Zora won the cup but things became extra sticky for her and the handsome cursed prince. The beginning of the book sees the pair fleeing for their lives and wounded. On the hunt for the cup that could end the curse on the prince.
One of the things I loved about the first book was the court intrigue and scheming of the brothers. There were fewer plotting brothers in this book and more relationship development between Zora and Griffin. So yeah to more romance!
I was a little confused in the beginning when Tris was introduced. I COULD NOT remember her from the first story and how she ended up a prisoner. Well, I wasn't meant to remember her because she was a new element to the story. A very interesting one at that! But that leads me to note there was some confusion for me with changing perspectives. The chapters change perspective without noting who we are reading beforehand. It did slow down my progress a bit.
Overall I enjoyed this continuation of Zora's story. I loved seeing her weald Butterfly and fight beside her handsome prince. Just when you think they have a clear path in front of them you get a big surprise conclusion.
I should note there IS a cliffhanger so if you are one who hates those you might wait a bit to read. I believe the third book comes out later this year. Fingers crossed!

Huge thank you to author Day Leitao for providing a copy of The Curse and the Prince (Kingdom of Curses and Shadows book two). I have reviewed honestly.

Rejoin Griffin and Zora as they search for the blood cup amongst a tango of truths, curses and prophecies. The Curse and the Prince is a delicious cocktail of fantasy and adventure, with a shot of romance, a dash of intrigue and a sprinkle of surprises; this sequel is one not to miss.

The Curse and the Prince features, but is not limited to, the following themes:
○ YA fantasy
○ YA romance
○ Dark magic
○ Adventure
○ Curses and prophecies
○ Royal brothers

My overall rating for The Curse and the Prince is…

4 Stars!

Thank you, thank you, thank you Day Leitao! This book was all it was promised to be and more! The second instalment in the Kingdom of Curses and Shadows is popping with danger, adventure and a sweet, light romance. I loved the exploration of characters who claimed minor roles in the first book but took to the stage as a main in the second. I also enjoyed the revelations Leitao expertly disclosed throughout the tale. Overall, a well written and exciting tale.

I want to thank the author for gifting me an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review! This book picks up right where The Cup and the Prince left off—and oh boy, the family drama revolving around Griffin’s brothers is never ending. Poor Zora for getting herself tangled up in their mess.

Speaking of Zora and Griffin...I loved their scenes as they continue working together to find the Blood Cup in hopes of ending Griffin’s curse as well as the possibility of freeing Zora’s village from its dark magic. And of course, their inevitable budding romance. ;)

While The Cup on the Prince focused solely on Zora and Griffin’s POVs, this book offers a couple new POVs. Which, unfortunately, is the main reason I docked a star. I appreciated the fact that we get a better glimpse inside these characters’ heads, but the mid-chapter POV changes made the storytelling feel a little clunky and confusing in spots. Other than that, I enjoyed this book! I’m excited to see how it all ends.

Loved this continuation! The story is captivating and the exchanges between characters reel you in. The cliffhanger at the end had me wanting to throw the book across the room (which means you know it's a good one).

Thank you to Day Leitao for sending me an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review, I don't know if I could have waited much longer to find out what happened to our protagonists - and antagonists for that matter.

Like I said the story is well thought out and the world she has created makes sense and you want to know more and see more. The only reason I'm giving it 3 stars is the writing itself, the language is still inconsistent (sometimes slipping into modern-day slang and sometimes using a more formal, elevated speech you expect in fantasy), and there are many odd word choices (like using "guy" instead of "boy" or "man") that pull you out of the story. However, I think with a little bit of elevating (and some checks for typos) this series will become a must-have for every fantasy-lovers shelves!

I thank Day Leitao for this ARC that I was crazy waiting for. I loved the first book which made me discover her.

Now, she did it again, Day Leitao is a master of cliffhangers and suspense. I can't wait for book 3, how could you do this to me?! Oh my god, what is going to happen to all of them?

I loved this second book, it was something different from the first one and the plot was well made. The first one was all about the challenges but this one was more about the mystery behind the curses. I loved that the second characters were well developed with their own stories. I love how Larzen is with Riadne and the new characters entring the story like Tris. There is so much mystery and the secrets are not so easily revealed , you have to work the pages to get to them but without it being boring.

I love Day leitao writing style, she doesn't write a lot just to say a little like with an amount of descriptions and nonsense. In other words, it is well written, clear to the point and even her characters speak like that. While reading her books it never ever gets dull. I like it and I had enjoyed discovering this new chapter of Zora's adventures. Thank you so much.

The Curse and the Prince was a great continuation to the series. It was interesting watching the relationships evolve between Zora and Griffin, the two main protagonists, and Lorzen and Riadne, the two supporting characters. You can tell that there is real love and respect between all of them. It was also refreshing to read a novel that follows a romance that does not detract from the adventure. Filled with thrills and danger, this book was a fun read from start to finish.

The only drawback is the way Riadne is presented. I liked her as an individual, and I could understand her decisions. However, the situation between her and the three royal brothers is awkward on Jerry Springer levels.

While this book is for meant for young adults, I would not have my middle schooler reading it. It would be great for high schoolers and older as sexual implications are made.

I highly recommend this book. I received this book for free, and I am voluntarily writing this review.

I read the first book in this series last year and I enjoyed it and said at that time this is a good building book for a series and even I did not see how good the second book would be.
This was such a fast pace book and the characters really pulled me straight back into the story!
You're thrown straight back into the world where Zara and the cursed prince run for their life’s after Zara wins the cup. The characters especially the princes had so much added dept and Zara’s strength really shined through. I really enjoyed the plot and having to figure out what the prophecies meant the twist and turns throughout the book left me shook and not knowing what could happen next!
I couldn’t put this book down from the moment I picked it up. I read it all in one sitting to be left with a cliffhanger I wasn’t ready for!
After the first book I wanted to carry in the series but wasn’t fully pulled in but after finishing this book I can not wait to read the next instalment. Such a strong second book for this series often I find second books can let down a series but The Curse And The Prince took Kingdom of Curse and Shadows to the next level.
I received a copy from the publisher in exchange for a honest review.

Review: warning potential Book 1 spoilers (which is currently $0.99 on Kindle and 1000% worth it!)

Ugh! I can’t believe I need to wait for book 3 after that cliffhanger! Such a great way to keep me chomping at the bit for more.

Zora and Griffin. Sigh. What to do with them? 😭 I love both characters and have since the beginning. Now their stories weave together more and I’m loving the tropes that go with that. Almost every other character I want to strangle, which is the point. They aren’t ‘likable’ most of the time and when they are, it’s a good present.

The pacing is well done. The slow bits were very emotional and the fast bits were easy to follow. The POV changes were well timed and kept you reading to find out what was happening.

Plot-wise much less was happening than in book 1 but what was happening was major, if that makes sense. Rather than many smaller events to craft the world and characters, we were able to go on a journey to discover new parts of the world.

I recommend reading this if you like royals, curses, and lies! But beware of the heart punch at the end.

4.5/5

I thought the first book in this series was pretty fun but I LOVED this one!

Zora and Griffin are working together in this one to try and find the Blood Cup to fix the curse on Griffin, all while on the run from the king who wants to kill them. Meanwhile we also get to know more of Riadne's motivations and a whole new thread to the story opens up there. I am HERE for the tenuous alliance between Larzen and Riadne, pretty sure they're totally meant for each other. I enjoy a morally grey character, so I like both of them.

I like all the different agendas in this one and learning more about where the curse and the shadows in the Dark Valley come from. There's lots of action all the way through. I also love how things are developing between Zora and Griffin, and how respectful Griffin is.

Overall a really good read and I'm jumping straight into the next one after the crazy events of the last chapter!

woh! What a good continuation!

The first book had surprised and enjoyed me.

But this second part I loved even more! The plot twist was quite surprising and now we interact more with the other characters and I fell quite in love with the couple between Liarzen and Ried, do I want more of them? Sure!!

------------------------------------

Woh!

Claro!!

As the writer said, it's slow paced👀 and damn I want to say this...

Who gave Seth the liberty to hurt Zora!???? What is the dilemma with Cecila is here now, huh? Your fraud boyfriend is an illiterate asf.

And what is with Seth's BFF huh? You also wanna hurt a hero huh? Dumb holes were born in the wrong world. Maybe his name starts from R, but do you know what your BFF is a dumbass.

I shouldn't have twisted them over, but I'm pleased hehe😁

Btw some imposter was introduced👀 Larsen, you are best being yourself, I'm sorry that bastard king locked you up, BTW all the guards, are you gonna sold all your loyalty, Yes or no? No selling your loyalty.

But can someone save our prince???

Griffin and Zora have just escaped and are on the run when it is revealed that Griffin is in dire need of help to release him from his curse. The two find themselves on an adventure to undo more than one curse in the Kingdom.

Firstly I did love this continuation from The Cup and The Prince. It was very fun and full of twists! There were sweet moments and moments full of suspense. I really enjoyed seeing Zora and Griffin's relationship grow stronger and delving deeper into the other Prince's stories. And the ending OH MY GOD! What a Cliffhanger, I am definitely going to continue on with the series.

However there was just something about it, that made me not enjoy it as much as the first. And after a week of trying to figure out what it was, I still can't put my finger on it.
