I’m Paige Harper and I clean up supernatural messes. But my personal life is something I can’t seem to straighten out.
I accidentally married a fae, and even though we've been divorced for years, Jax still manages to land me in hot water. Like, putting my house on the table at a high stakes poker game type of hot.
Now, he's been arrested for murder and the cops want to pin a series of vampire killings on him. I don't know if he did it or not. But I do know he needs to be at that poker game or else my house is gone.
In order to get Jax out, I turn to Nico, a one-eyed werewolf private detective, for help. Nico is a handsome, dangerous, ladies man and I have no intention of falling prey to his charms.
Although, that's easier said than done as the two of us begin crawling through the dirty underbelly of the supernatural world…
It’s a good thing I brought my broom.

Fun and interesting world building with a quick murder mystery and unique characters. But dang I gotta say (I know it was written this way) but the guys were giving me a headache. If Jax was my ex I would say forget the house and business and run...I mean...move to a different state just to get away from that aggravation.
For a freebie it wasn’t bad. I liked how there is a bigger mystery in play, the ghosting. I liked how the van is sentient and the plant. I couldn’t stand Paige. Yes she had the worst taste in men but it made me laugh when she referred to Shauna as immature. It was mainly temper tantrums, flirting with anything that had a cock and burning bridges. Favourite character was Darron/Daphne, I liked how they were a guiding hand and the only sensible one in the group. The supernatural was interesting but I can’t read more Paige.

This is a different approach than you usually find with an urban fantasy. No kick-ass MC who is the chosen one with great fighting abilities or just has some fantastic magic; no this is from the pov of a person who has to deal with the aftermath of the kick-ass delivery, the clean-up. Yes, Paige is a professional cleaner who deals with the aftermath of a supernatural fight or just a supernatural get together. Of course, she falls into some trouble and will need all her cleaning skills and help from a hot werewolf detective to clean up this mess.
It was funny and even cute at times. But I didn't always like Paige. She was lust stupid. Her ex has lied to her, cheated on her, and over and over again taken advantage of her and she has kept on falling in bed with him again and forgiving him, or at least letting it all go. She doesn't even pretend with herself that she lets him take advantage of her because she still loves him. That really, really annoys me. She is lust stupid at other times, but luckily not as bad. She is an intelligent adult, sex shouldn't short circuit her brain this badly.
Paige has godawful taste in men and an obsession with correcting grammar and making puns at bad times. I spent the whole book stressed that she might fall back into bed with her ex-husband. But instead she just missed a bunch of weird red flags and got into unnecessary arguments. The world building had promise and some interesting points (beauty as a drug, effect of blood thinners on vampires), but wasn't fleshed out nearly enough for me. Some characters were jarringly bigoted re supernaturals v. humans, bringing up some parallels to real-life issues. Darron/Daphne was my fav part of the book.
Also, for some weird reason it appeared as all bold font on my e-reader? Not sure if that was on purpose or not, but it wasn't caused by my e-reader so I assume they published it like that?
What a very different take on life when those with supernatural have "come out" and live alongside humans. Paige Harper and her Dad had run a cleaning agency together, specialising in working for the supernatural. However, one day he literally disappeared right in front of her. He wasn't the only one, so did her Mum and millions of others. There's no known explanation but it has left her running the business . . . .
This story is a giggle your way through cosy paranormal murder mystery, told from the point of view of Paige who is an English major (yes, that is relevant to her though not so much to everyone around her or her job). When someone retains her to clean his home, she's suspicious but what's a girl to do - she needs the job! She discovers her ex-husband (who turned out not to be human at all, but a cheating Fae) got her the job. That makes her even more wary! What with him owning her home, moving a stranger in, turning up uninvited - she's had enough of alpha males! Mind you, he's not the only one in her life . . . there's also her boyfriend, who has political aspirations but seems to have a public and private personality that are totally different. Oh, and there's also Nico, the one-eyed werewolf PI who works from a neighbouring office.
When Paige finds someone holding the knife over a dead vampire, she's immediately thrust into the centre of a murder investigation that the police are too scared to actively pursue . . . but she isn't! She's a snarky, sassy, determined and resilient character, not someone those alpha males can subjugate! Get ready for murder, mystery and mayhem in this fun read which I thoroughly enjoyed escaping into. If you're looking for a story to have you laughing out loud whilst still trying to decide just who did it, look no further, grab yourself a copy of this delightful story.
Thank you to the publishers and Book Siren for my copy of this book which I voluntarily read and have honestly reviewed.
A humorous look at our world when it has been hit by so many disasters that the Supernatural beings have come out to play. Then, on top of all the natural disasters, people all over the world just disappear in the middle of work, dinner, whatever! Those left just have to learn to adjust. Paige Harper is a human who found out she had, unknowingly, married a Fae! Now she is just trying to survive but has problems coming at her from all sides. Her ex is in jail for murder and she has to get him out by the weekend or she’ll lose her house! Quite funny I have voluntarily reviewed this book after receiving an ARC from the author.
Grave New World has it all. Quirky characters, a murder mystery, fae, vampires, werewolves oh my. A whodunit that will have you giggling at times, you're going to love Paige and her interesting cohorts as they try to navigate through new challenges. Paige is a great snarky narrator, and I'm not sure how much differently I would react thrown into similar circumstances. Can't recommend this enough and I can't wait to read book two!
I really loved this! It’s an supernatural murder mystery that is engaging and exciting and our female mc is just awesome as she is snarky and sassy and had me laughing out loud in places! A fun read that I really enjoyed!
I had recently finished all of the available Below Street Mystery series by Jennifer Ashley which I absolutely adore, and I was searching for something interesting in a mystery series. Something *not* labeled ‘cozy’ because those bore me, and with as little sex as possible, if there was such a thing. I’d recently stumbled across this series in a recommendation somewhere, and thought I would give it a go. And I’m pretty glad I did. This was quite a fun read, and an interesting mystery. Great writing, and the MC has this snarky style I love in females, most times. I loved the various characters in this novel, and even though I figured out who the ‘baddie’ was ahead of time, I still enjoyed listening to the entire audiobook. No kick-ass MC who is the ‘chosen one’, with the great fighting abilities, or just has some fantastic magic. Nope, this is from the pov of a person who has to deal with the aftermath of life, as in the clean-up. But honestly, I adore the sentient van and Venus flytrap.
Carrie Coello is the narrator for the audiobook version of this novel, and I really like her style! I think I’m going to enjoy hearing her continue this series for as far as they go. Great work, Ms. Coello!
This story starts off nearly perfectly - underwater shark vamp party clean up - but as the story progresses, it chaffed. I couldn't get a handle on a world where supernaturals had revealed themselves 10 years before due to an apocalypse that included food shortages, and a mysterious "ghosting" disappearance of untold numbers of people two years before, but everything else functioned as regular old America. There seemed to be nearly no downstream results from these catastrophic events. People still went out to restaurants and got margaritas as big as their heads, but maybe protein costs a little more.
Then it became increasingly clear that the parallels with current America didn't stop there: the woman whose cognitive dissonance allows her to deeply hate the supernaturals, despite having close personal/familial relations with them; she also protests too much, but seems to be actually fine with being treated like she's owned. The politician boyfriend who's ok with racism to get ahead in the world. Who thinks he's owed respect despite showing none to his supposed partner, who he treats like property. No thank you.
This, a main character who was actively mean, and situations too obvious to be credulous. I could go on, but suffice it to say I feel like I stumbled onto an Urban Fantasy novel written for the MAGA crowd.
Big nope for me, but at least it was short. Paige Harper runs a business cleaning up supernatural messes. There was so much more this could have been. It hinted at an apocalypse that it never really explained and that this is when supernatural creatures revealed themselves, but Paige is so prejudice that it's ugly. She's also so focused on sex it was irritating. She catches her ex husband standing over a dead body and turns him in for murder, then spends the rest of the book trying to clear his name. She's so flighty and immature I should have DNF'd thr book, but it was super short. It took 3 authors to write this really bad book.
Very good if a somewhat different storyline, great characters that are easy to cheer for. Fae Vampires Shifters and a spaced-out Pixie all add to the action toss in murder and mayhem add in a little humor snark and romance and you have this very readable story, recommended read, Baz.
Paige Harper, expert literary pun creator and owner of Down and Dirty Supernatural Cleaning Services. If you have a mess, she can clean it up. For a price, of course. And when she's offered the opportunity to clean a large house by a fae for double her regular rate, she jumps at the opportunity. Because business hasn't exactly been great recently. And she does have bills to pay, so she's going to ignore the warning that her sexy private-eye office neighbor gives her about working with this fae.
And while Paige has cleaned up some crazy messes - which includes sharks in a giant water tank; no, you really don't want to know - she is not prepared when she shows up at the house of her new, extremely well-paying job, to find a large house with a lot of dust and not much else. Until she does upstairs. That's where she finds her ex-husband Jax - the man who is actually a fae changeling that she married before learning about that, and then divorced him when she found him cheating on her in their bedroom, above their bed (yes, you read that correctly) - standing above a very dead and very bloody body, holding a knife.
Naturally, she calls the police, and Jax is arrested and charged with the murders of all of the vampires that have been turning up dead recently.
But Jax isn't a murderer. Paige knows that. And once she gets over the anger she feels at learning that Jax has used her house - technically his house - as a buy-in for a poker game this weekend, she will start working on proving that.
And if you think that's a lot to tell you about this story, you're in for a crazy fast ride, because that all happens in the first 20%, and it doesn't slow down. Paige's investigation goes from 0 to 600 in about 8 seconds flat and contains some crazy twists and turns.
There are also some great characters, and I am definitely coming back to see what's going to happen between Paige and Nico, the werewolf that she absolutely wants nothing to do with, never mind the vivid pictures that go through her mind when he's around. I also loved Darron, the elderly former stage actor who won a free room for ten years from Jax in a poker game (see again: Jax is an extremely frustrating and idiotic fae that drives Paige crazy).
I'll be honest, I wasn't entirely sure how this one was going to end aside from solving the case of proving Jax's innocence, but I definitely loved it, and I will absolutely be getting the next book in the series to see what happens - especially with the discovery at the end of this one.
The only thing that I didn't really like is the page-packing in the book. I thought I was getting a book that was 208 pages long. Instead, I got a story that ended with over 10% of the book left; that 10% was made up of the first chapters of the next book in this series and the first book of two other series. I understand why authors might choose to do this, and I don't necessarily mind including a teaser from the next book in the series. But the other books bothered me. Still, that's a minor thing, and it doesn't affect the story - which was good. So, if you get this book, just be prepared for the story to finish before the book does.
Awesome title, and uniquely 50’s book cover. I couldn’t resist, so I signed up to read an advanced copy.
Cleaning a shark tank after a vampire mash? I blinked twice, thought ‘how original’, and was hooked. Paige is racist against supernaturals but so desperate for cash she specializes in clean-up for them. Her parents suddenly disappeared during a mass act-of-god, and she blames supernaturals despite being told that they lost family, too. Her sexy neighbor starts explaining the facts of life to her and she just wants to plug her head into a hole like an ostrich. It’s too much like Fox TV versus PBS watchers. Shudder.
Paige has a difficult love life, too. Her ex-husband is a piece of work, and I can see why. As a changeling, he was swapped at birth with a human and essentially became an outcast among both cultures, along with his human alternate. He loves her, but his cons and genetic fae tendencies can get him in trouble, which Paige could not forgive. He really does come across as sympathetic and pathetic at the same time. But in his latest loss, Paige ends up with a roommate who is awesome. Darrell/Daphne is another Queen of Useless Degrees, yet he comes across as her missing parents-in-absentia. Unfortunately, his latest con depends upon a card game with their house as collateral. She is so incensed that she hires her sexy neighbor Nico to help her get the house back.
Her current boy-toy is a Humans First politician, and an ex army specialist who is every bit the equal of any paranormal. This is what I really like about the story; no one is fully disadvantaged. Too bad Paige cannot recognize that, and she constantly picks fights, acts like a succubus, then pretty much ostracizes her friends and lovers. Paige is not likeable, but neither was I when I needed a therapist. She is hypocritical, saying she is not racist, feeling abandoned but abandoning her ex, attempting to find a nice human lover—any nice guy will do—when she is attracted to Nico, a werewolf. She needs to control everything to such an extent that the P.I. Cannot do his job, nor can her crazy, skilled sister-in-law help. I hate her; I like her character.
The plot is just as good as the characters. There is a serial killer on the loose, but that is background to the immediate need to retain her house. Matter of fact, plants and houses don’t betray, and they are more important to Paige than any sentient. It is tragic. That scent of betrayal goes both ways, and her self-destruction was captivating to watch. Why? Because I was laughing so hard at the witty banter that I decided to look the new authors up. I have to read more of their work! It has sass.
We queens of useless degrees have to find our passion in life, but I like the supporting characters more. They are precious.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This book really drew me in! I like the idea of a main character whose job is about cleaning up supernatural messes. Someone’s gotta do it, right? Paige is a very head strong kind of person, so when her ex-husband is accused of murder and has put her house up as collateral for a high-stakes poker game, she is determined to catch the real killer and prove his innocence. Oh, and get her house back.
I won’t lie. I expected Nico to be more involved in the case and the book as a whole based on the summary. But in the end, Paige sorta does everything herself. With a few scenes with Nico sprinkled in.
I found it interesting that while Paige works with supes 98% of the time and has an ex-husband who is a supe, she is sort of anti-supe. She isn’t outright aggressive about it, but in the back of her mind she has a negative mentality about supernatural creatures as a whole. It will be interesting to see how she grows from this through future books.
While I enjoy Paige’s character for the most part, she does on occasion annoy me. Particularly when she shares a bunch of information to a man she just met when undercover. She has no way of really knowing he isn’t involved in some way, but the fact that he is human has her convinced it's fine to share all the sordid details of her case. It’s quite frustrating.
The rest of the cast is filled with wild and diverse characters and I love that it doesn’t shy away from it. Paige, whose ex-husband is a Fae changeling, lives with a drag queen and a Beauty addicted lesbian Pixie. I love it!
While I believe that the world and characters are pretty solid, I think that the mystery could use a little tightening up. About half-way through the book I had a pretty good idea on who the bad guy was going to be, so it became less about the big reveal and more about waiting for the characters to catch up.
Forewarning that this book ends on a cliffhanger with the next one picking up exactly where it leaves off. So I wouldn’t recommend finishing this book at night. Or else you might immediately pick up the next one and keep reading for a few chapters only to realize it's 3 am and you have to be up at 8…..just me?
If you are looking for something humorous and exciting to read then I definitely recommend this book!
Review of Grave New World Book 1 Of Down and Dirty Supernatural Cleaning Services Author Kate Karyus Quinn, Demitria Lunnetta, MarleyLynn. Narrator Carrie Coello Length 6 hours 11 mins
I was really excited when I came across this series of books, I loved the name of the series, Down and Dirty Supernatural Cleaning Services, the book cover looked exciting and its one of my favourite genres, my imagination was working over time, so it had a lot to live up to. Thank you Kate for giving me the chance to listen to and review your book which I enjoyed imensley
If you like supernatural fantasy, then I think you will enjoy this story, the book is full of supernatural's of every kind you can imagine. I won't go into details about the plot as the preface (intro) gives you all the information you need, and will most likely leave you hooked.
I really enjoyed the story, and was kept well entertained throughout, although I did have a few surprises, I was expecting the usual nice, clean pleasant story you normally get with this general type of book, but it was a little bit grittier, don't get me wrong I am not a prude and quite enjoy sex scenes etc in stories but found Paige the main character a little on the crude side, I would not of wanted a teenage daughter listening to the book and thinking it was okay to talk like Paige, but saying that, it suited Paige and was part of her personality. I must add that Carrie Coello did a great job of narrating this story, and felt that she portrayed Paige perfectly.
I believe that there are four books in the series so far, but only the first one is available on Audible at the minute, I am hoping that the others will be released soon, as I am looking forward to hearing about what happens next for Paige and the other characters in this story.
Early in this novel, a what is described as a dead body is producing spurts of arterial blood, and I rolled my eyes. But a little later, someone with one eye is described as not having reduced depth perception as a result, and that's when it clicked for me: "Grave New World" isn't just an urban fantasy with elements of paranormal romance, it's also an (affectionate) parody of the UF/PR genre. And rather specifically, I think, of an early/mid 2000's moment when the genre shelf section was a wall of names with almost suspiciously similar cadences (Laurel Hamilton, Kim Harrison, Kelly Armstrong...) , and dark covers with butts in tight jeans/skirts.
But it's not the sort of parody where the characters are in on the joke – they react to all the assorted absurdities without breaking character. And it's not the sort of humor that arises out of interaction between the characters, or elaborate set pieces (I kinda wished the cleaning service elements were foregrounded more, that seems like an opportunity for missed fun). It's really rooted in taking the conventions of the genre to ridiculous extremes. (Although I also wonder if there might be specific gags that went over my head because I haven't read enough UF/PR to get them.)
What I did really like about this book is that it's much more inclusive than the UF/PR I remember. There's prominent queer rep, including a character whose pronouns require clarification. This is an everyone-knows-about-the-paranormal-peeps world, with racial tensions between humans and "supes," and our protagonist Paige Harper is clearly being set up for an awakening about her own prejudice.
Paige is unlucky in life and love. Her parents and thousands of other humans vanished one day in the blink of an eye, her cheating husband is apparently fae, and her job as a cleaning lady has her cleaning up shark tanks (complete with the sharks) and all other manner of nastiness. The only things she can depend on are her temperamental sentient van and her similarly sentient pet venus fly trap. So when Paige's ex-husband is found standing over a dead body, what else is a professional cleaning lady to do but clean up his mess (again)? And if she has to deal with a drug-addicted pixie sister-in-law, the hot werewolf private investigator next door, her politician boyfriend, and her new drag queen roommate, well that is just another day for a Down and Dirty Supernatural Cleaning lady.
I tore through this book. I couldn't put it down, even when I was supposed to be helping the kids with virtual school. It was so good and I cannot wait to read everything else in this series. I NEED to know how all the characters end up! It is a fun, engaging read that is part sexy thriller, part murder mystery, part political intrigue, part supernatural, part comedy. And even though it was a funny murder comedy, I still didn't guess who the killer was until I was told. Then I kicked myself for not figuring it out. A really good read.
I received a free ARC of this book, but my opinions are all mine.
Page Harper lives in a world where one day it became known that there are supernatural beings. And society is still sorting out these things. That mess can be found in her life too, especially since she still has to deal with the aftermath of her ex-husband Jax being a fae. While she tries to keep her cleaning business afloat and to get along with the PI werewolf next door, Jax manages to bet her house in a game of poker and embroil her in a murder case. From then on, a chain of events unfolds, which completely messes up Page life. From a drag queen, as a roommate, to a pregnant vampire, Page approaches everything in her direct, charming, very brusque way. The description of the books sounded like a fun trip to me and I wouldn't be disappointed. It was fun to read the chaos in Page life, even if it was a bit over the top at times. Still, it goes very well with the way the books are written. I found the books pleasant to read because they have a humorous tone despite the sometimes very adult topics. Page is a fighter and that comes through in the way the story is told. Many of the supporting characters are annoying at the beginning (since they are also annoying for Page) but gradually they grow dear to you. And nothing beats Page's new roommate. Darron / Daphne is a wonderful character and an oasis of calm in all this chaos. And I definitely have a thing for the werewolf Nico.
Thoughts: I really wanted to like this book. It sounded so interesting and I love paranormal stories. Plus, this one was different – a main character who’s stuck with the cleanup after all the paranormal stuff happens. Nice.
Unfortunately, wanting to like something and actually liking it are often two very different things. I started off kind of liking Paige, but it went downhill from there for me. Her lust-filled brain just did not click with me. Her ex, Jax, is awful but she still lusts after him and lets him take advantage of her all the time. This story was more about her sex-life than anything else.
Yes, there are cute, funny moments. And the world building is done well, but the characters just didn’t work for me. And they didn’t really grow or change throughout the book. The mystery part is okay and there’s a satisfying ending, but I’m not sure I could recommend this book to any of my friends.
Disclaimer: I received a final and/or advanced reader copy of this book with the hope that I will leave my unbiased opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that… My Opinions. I am posting this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255: “Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising”
When the supernaturals come out of the closet, the humans don't exactly embrace them. Paige hates the supes. Particularly because her lazy good for nothing ex was a total idiot who messed up Paige's life more than once while being charmingly sweetly apologetic about it. But her main clients for her cleaning service are supes, and Paige can work with them as long as they pay nicely. But when she stumbles across a murder scene that her ex might have committed, Paige is involved against her will.
I liked that the protagonist was a cleaning lady. It's such a practical blue collar job that I've never seen before in fantasy, and it was nicely refreshing. The whodunnit murder plot made a nice easy read. The book was pretty clean in terms of action, although there was plenty of dirty talk and eye candy mentions.
Paige seemed to have good luck attracting men, so I don't know why she was constantly so horny and had a history of relationships with bad men. A history that she, unfortunately, keeps repeating. And as much as she berates her boyfriend and ex for cheating, she herself needs to stop hitting up on every man she meets.
It was a fun read. A nice and light palate cleanser.
[audio book] Length: 6 hrs and 11 mins Narrated by: Carrie Coello 3.5-4 stars - did a nice job of distinguishing the characters, without going over the top with the 'Jersey girl' attitude/accent. ---- (received this copy for free with promo code) A, not quite, cozy mystery. Quirky 'Jersey shore' characters, with attitude and sass, surviving in a new paranormal world order. While this does use some rough/crass language it's not over the top and it suites the characters portrayed. The heroine has a crusty exterior to hide her soft, gooey, and slightly emotionally bruised, heart. Paige wants a simple, normal life. Instead she is: trying to date a 'nice' guy and dealing with his jealous political aide; rescuing her 'fairy' of an ex-husband and his family, who seemed to turn to her to help them; drawn into a murder investigation; meeting and getting more involved with paranormal people than she ever wanted. The story is written with a tongue in cheek, down to earth and punny attitude. The story is a standalone, but does lead into the next book in the series with the secondary plot.
A book on supernatural cleaning? Sign me up. The world-building on this one was unique and the kind of thing I love. Supernaturals (Sups for short) have invaded the world. Paige, the MC, has even inadvertently married a changeling who didn't know he was Fae until he was grown. Their marriage ended because he couldn't stop cheating on her with other fairies. She and her dad ran a supernatural cleaning company to deal with this new world, when one day, in a Thanos-type move, 1/3 of the population is "ghosted". Paige's parents are both gone. In addition to taking on supernatural messes to pay the bills, Paige must help her ex-husband exonerate himself from a vampire murder and win back the house he lets her live in, that he put up for a poker game. Even though her job is cleaning for Sups, Paige is very prejudice against them. She seeks out humans for her overactive love life. That's the one thing I didn't like about the story. Paige has the worst taste in men and won't take a minute to sort out her life, just keeps bed-hopping. If she reflected for one minute, maybe she'd see that the Sups aren't all bad, and go out with a quality Sup, rather than an evil human.
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of "GRAVE NEW WORLD" This was a unuque interesting, entertaining, engaging, intriguing, angsty, mysterious storyline with a few twists that make for a very enjoyable read. Natural disaster cause people all over the world to just disappear Paige Harper loses her parents during this time she blames it on the supernaturals but they lost family also. Jax was switched at birth he's a changeling Fae/Human an outcast in both worlds his marriage to Paige ends after 6yrs she didn't know he was Fae he still gets in trouble one outing her house on the table at high stakes poker game then gets arrested for murder. Paige asks her gorgeous neighbor who is a shifter werewolf and a PI to help her they work together going into the underbelly of the supernatural world to find the real killer. I definitely recommend to get thus book well written with laugh out loud moments with great interesting entertaining characters I thoroughly enjoyed this book so well worth the read I can't wait to see what these three authors write next togther.
I enjoy reading Paranormal romances, especially those with a touch of humour, and this fits the bill nicely. Paige rings a cleaning agency that specialises in clearing up supernatural messes. When called to clean up another one she finds her ex - husband Jax, a fae, standing over the dead body of a vampire. When he is arrested for this she finds it that he needs to be released quickly so that he doesn't lose Paige's house in a card game.
Am interesting take on this genre I found that it grew on me as I read it. There is the requisite romance - with a one - eyed werewolf PI -, other deaths, a breakup with her fiance to be who is an aspiring politician. With sentient vans and Venus fly traps, a pixie ex sister in law and a vampire party there was plenty to keep me hooked all the way through to the end with its surprise and promise of plenty more to come in the next series. I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher, however this did not influence my review of the book.
Our heroine is a cleaning lady but the messes she gets into might be a bit above and beyond the call of duty. Like bailing her fae ex-husband out of supernatural trouble.
This is book one of the series. Enough said.
I am going to call this a paranormal romance with a strong sense of humor. Frankly, the entire situation is ridiculous and that just makes it too fun to resist. The writing is excellent and the setting is well detailed with lots of unusual elements to it that add to the entire bizarre nature of the story. The characters are also well developed with unique and interesting personalities. The story is highly entertaining and addictive, making it hard to put down for mundane tasks like eating, sleep, work, etc. Overall, a great introduction to a new author (for me) and I definitely look forward to more.
Highly recommended.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout for review purposes.
There’s something charming about the characters in this book and the story is pretty great.
Paige is just trying to live her life and make a living... in a world full of Supers and Humans (among other things). Of course she just can’t seem to get away from her sexy ex 🧚🏾 who never fails to get her wrapped up in trouble. And she can’t help but get involved with the infuriatingly sexy one-eyed PI 🐺. What’s a cleaning girl to do? Other than get down and dirty.
I definitely recommend this book (and series!) if you enjoy humor, mystery, sexy non-human men, and a van that has a mind of its own. I don’t think it’s meant to be taken serious, it’s more of a fun and light series that allows you to escape from reality. I do wish there had been more *wink wink* so here’s to hoping for the next book 🤞.
I can’t wait to read the next book in the series (here’s to hoping for some steam if you know what I mean.- Paige would appreciate that, I think).
