Unseen Enemy is Dive Team Investigations 3.5/Defend and Protect 0.5.
The events of Unseen Enemy take place in between the end of One Final Breath (Dive Team Investigations, Book 3) and the beginning of Unknown Threat (Defend and Protect, Book 1).
For those of you who have been missing Ryan and Leigh, Adam and Sabrina, and Gabe and Anissa, the gang is all here.
The Dive Team is called out to help with a case that has Dr. Sharon Oliver, their favorite medical examiner, working overtime dodging bullets and grenades while reeling from the surprise appearance of the man she said goodbye to ten years ago, U.S. Secret Service Special Agent Benjamin North. He usually protects the President, but will he be able to keep Sharon safe from the unseen enemy stalking her every move?

Unseen Enemy is a quick read that is packed full of suspense, danger, faith, and second chances and is part of the Dive Team Investigations series. We see old friends but get to know some new ones. I have enjoyed this series by Lynn H Blackburn. She does such a great job with her characters in law enforcement and friends and their comradery as well as creating a scenario of suspenseful danger and a mystery to solve. I am looking forward to meeting the next characters in the Defend and Protect series with the Secret Service group. I received a complimentary copy from the author and thank her for the gift. All thoughts and opinions are mine only.
What a fun segue from Dive Team Investigations series to the new Defend and Protect series. I loved seeing the dive team together again and also loved getting to know their favorite medical examiner. Sharon is no-nonsense and married to her job as is Benjamin, a US Secret Service agent. I do love second chance romances and their bittersweet past and their promising future, along with plenty of fast-paced action and adrenaline, made the perfect read on a cold winter afternoon.
I received the book from the author (and you can too when you sign up for the author’s newsletter) and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are my own.
One of the greatest book discoveries for me in 2020 was the Dive Team investigations series by Lynn Blackburn. I found them thanks to other book reviewers on Instagram and I am so glad I gave them a chance. How did I miss these when they released? They are the epitome of everything I love about the genre of romantic suspense. All of them are full of swoonworthy heroes who repeatedly save the day, but not because the heroines are weak and need rescuing. It is quite the opposite actually. All of the women are smart and independent, but find themselves in some pretty precarious situations. I like that each of the three couples relationships develop throughout the book. Instant relationships would just not be believable given the characters backgrounds and nail-biting situations going on in each story. It's not surprising that my favorite part of the series by far was the page-turning suspense! Each book hooked me from the beginning and I found myself totally surprised at the end! I really don't think I could pick a favorite hero, heroine, or book in the series. I loved them all! The blessing in disguise with finding this series late was I got to binge read the entire series so there was no waiting in between!
Note: The novella, Unseen Enemy, is available to the author's newsletter subscribers and is a connector between this series and the first book in her new series which releases this spring. Can't wait!
Fantastic story! Sharon and Ben were great characters and I loved seeing all my old friends from the Dive Team. I also loved the humor in the book(Lynn’s funny moments are always my favorite!). Great set up for the new series and I can’t wait to read it!!
I loved this novella! I have not read the Dive Team Investigations series yet, but this novella falls at the end of that series and the beginning of the Defend and Protect series, and I'm just starting the Defend and Protect series. I hope to see more of the main characters in upcoming stories!
Dr. Sharon Oliver, medical examiner, is called to a property where a dead man and a box of money are being pulled out of a pond. She is completely taken off guard at the appearance on that property of U.S. Secret Service Special Agent Benjamin North, the man she said goodbye to ten years ago.
She finds herself dodging bullets and grenades. He usually protects the President, but will he be able to keep Sharon safe from the unseen enemy who is trying to kill her?
This is the first story I've read by Author Lynn H Blackburn and it grabbed me from the get go. I love the characters, the suspense, and I highly recommend Unseen Enemy!

Despite being a short novella, Unseen Enemy by Lynn Blackburn was a really good story! Secret Service agent Benjamin and Medical Examiner and Forensic Pathologist Sharon haven’t seen each other in 10 years, but when a strange case brings them back together, it brings back all the feelings they once had for each other and all the regret that they let their relationship go in pursuit of their careers. If they can’t figure out why someone would be targeting Sharon, their reunion and future might be in jeopardy. But Ben isn’t about to let anything happen to Shari now that she’s back in his life.
This little story is free to subscribers of Lynn’s newsletter (that’s the only way to get it) and while it only took about an hour to read, it felt like a treat just for friends. We are reunited with the dive team from her first three books and introduced to the secret service agents in her new series, which I am about to pick up book one and I couldn’t be more excited. Lynn has begun to make a name for herself in romantic suspense, and I’m glad to be along for the ride.
This short novella is the perfect transition from Lynn Blackburn's Dive Team Investigations series into her upcoming "Defend and Protect" series. Reading about the familiar characters and finding out an "update" on their lives helped her first full-length series to continue. But meeting some of the characters that will play a part in her upcoming "Defend and Protect" series was also fun. This was a great storyline that kept me guessing. The author provided a free copy of this novella to those who were signed up for her newsletter during December 2020. She did not expect her subscribers to write a review - that was not an expectation of the download. But I wanted to share as I am a fan of the first series, and I have also read the next book in the upcoming series. I want more people to find out about this author.
Dr. Sharon Oliver is the forensic pathologist for Carrington County, North Carolina and was a character in all the Dive Team Investigations novels. Now she is in danger after a body and a box of counterfeit money is found in a farm pond. The pond is owned by the father of Benjamin North, the man Sharon walked away from ten years earlier when their professional dreams interfered with their relationship. Ben has taken leave from his Secret Service job to be with his father who having health issues. Ben has two tasks: keep Sharon safe and convince her to renew their relationship. There is the usual action and appearances by all the main characters of the novel. I enjoyed it.
Unseen Enemy is such a fun bridge between the Dive Team Investigations series and the Defend and Protect series. It was a treat to catch up with the dive team while getting to know their favorite medical examiner, Sharon, and Secret Service agent Benjamin. Both are fiercely dedicated to their jobs, and their bittersweet past and second-chance romance brought so much heart to this fast-paced, action-packed novella.
I loved the blend of thrilling suspense with a sweet rekindling of love—it’s the perfect cozy read for a cold winter afternoon. Having read the Defend and Protect series earlier, it was great to see how the stories connect. This novella may be short, but it definitely delivers!
An interesting bridge between two series that gives readers one more opportunity to catch up with the leading characters of the Dive Team Investigations series while introducing some of the characters in the next series by this author. I enjoyed the action and excitement in this story. The pace is very rapid. Someone seems intent on eliminating Dr. Sharon Oliver, but the responsible party and the reason are unknown. Unlike a TV show, you don’t have to worry about dozing off and missing anything. I doubt you can doze anyway because of almost constant action. I received a copy of this book from the author. This is my honest review. All opinions are strictly my own.
A second-chance romance which had me really rooting for both characters. They had parted ways because it would be too long before they were free to marry, but neither had forgotten the other. It was pretty fun watching them pick up right where they left off and feeling their joy as they realized they were both still looking for the right person and that marriage would be so much more possible right now than before. If only they can survive the next few weeks and solve the murder case before they get killed...!
Wow! What a ride! The author did an amazing job placing the suspense wisely in such a short book.
Ahhhhhhhggghhggh I loved Sharon and Ben!! Such great characters.. Again, Ms. Blackburn did a great job bringing put the heart of the characters in such a short book..
My fav quote: “What would it be like to share your life with someone when you both thought you were the lucky one?”
I enjoyed this novella. I definitely will read more by Blackburn. The story was clean--no language, innuendo or gore. It wasn't creepy or dark. She did a good job creating suspense in an enjoyable way. Well done. And her characters believed in God (but weren't preachy), which I really appreciate! I look forward to more stories.
This novella is a quick and entertaining read, and it packs a punch of detail, suspense, romance, and mystery. Don’t let it’s short length fool you - the story was complex, the mystery compelling, and there was plenty of action. I loved the characters and their interactions. I couldn’t put it down!
This is a good story; well written. It is novella length but I didn’t feel it lacked anything with its shorter length. Obviously part of a series and not all of the mystery is solved in this story. I read another book from the same series and it still hadn’t been solved in that one, so I guess you need to read the entire series to find out what that’s all about.
This novella was a free gift for newsletter subscribers, and I've never fan-girled so hard in my life as I did when I found out Lynn H. Blackburn was writing a novella. A great story! If you like romantic suspense but haven't read anything by her yet, I highly recommend you subscribe so you can get all her goodies. Trust me when I say you'll become a fan.
this is another mystery to solve for the team, who killed the man an how did he get in the water, very good story, i was given a copy of the story but this is an honest review. looking forward to the next book. these are well written mysteries
If you've not joined Lynn's newsletter, do so and grab this free book. It's a quick, fun, and fast-paced read. I enjoyed getting to see more of the characters from the series, and a different perspective in the crime-fighting world. And, I do love a good second-chance romance.
4.5 Stars🌟 A very cute and suspenseful novella, though I do wish we could have had more space for Ben and Sharon’s relationship to rekindle and develop. Loved its connections to both of Lynn Blackburn’s series.
Crime scene, investigation, thriller with a second story line of romance thrown in. This was a satisfactory read for me. I think if I had read the Dive Team Investigation series, I would’ve enjoyed it more. Being a novella it was a quick refreshing read.
Oh, what a great arc between Lynn Blackburn's series. Catch up with favorite dive team members and meet new secret service and FBI agents of the upcoming Defend and Protect line.
I enjoyed this so much! It was great catching up with old characters and meeting new ones from the next series. I was impressed with the quality of the novella, it wasn’t put together in a hurry and was well edited. I only wish it was longer! I can’t wait for the next series to come out!
Excellent novella by Lynn H Blackburn! It was great to see old friends from the Dive Team Investigations series and meet Ben! Sharon Oliver was able to return as the heroine in Unseen Enemy! This novella brings suspense, faith, hope and love to life!
An EXCELLENT ebook that ties Dive Team Investigations and its characters to Defend and Protect and the new series releasing in 2021, really enjoyed it!
Loved this easy read that gives the reader more of the Dive Team investigators! Lynn knows how draw the reader in and fall in love with her characters!
