Led by her dreams, she finds her way into the stars where fate conspires to put her exactly where she needs to be, in a heroes path. When her parents died, Lyra was untethered. She left school, followed her dreams, and focused on keeping herself alive. She is not a fan of people and enjoys being alone. After the asteroid hit, she spends sometime surviving and the rest looking for one of the evacuation posts. She finds it and agrees to the caveat that she will be given a job placement which suits her skills. Across the stars she works as a security unit pilot, steering a large heavy bot around and keeping watch over a rehab hospital for superheroes. As a hazing ritual a few of the guardians sneak out to try and unmask the new security unit, so when confronted with a handsome man landing on her chest, she does what any girl would do. She shoots him in the face and then has to deal with the fallout of stunning the overseer’s only son. It isn’t love at first sight, but weeks later, when she is enjoying a day off, they collide under far more romantic circumstances, and their unorthodox courtship continues.
I love this series. I own all 8 of them, this is a big deal for me. I am one of those who absolutely hates to spend more than a few bucks for books that are short reads. For this series, that is one con for me, $5 for less than 100 pages, a few hours worth. Normally it’s going to have at least 300 pages or more, if I’m going to spend that, lol. In fact these are the only 8 books I have done that. The other con is about the length also in that I wish they were all at least twice as long. I finally have them all and have read most of the older ones many times. Leaving same review for all of them. I’d say book 4 is my favorite. Book 5 has to be the least favorite. It just didn’t fit with the others to me.
Lyra is a human, a loner, a planner, and a pragmatic woman. She accepts the unchangeable, deals with things as they are, and accidentally foresees the future if she touches someone skin-to-skin. When she meets the Overseer’s son, a touch changes everything she had planned for her life. This love story is filled with humor, witty, sexy banter, mech and tech, and gen-mods, mother-in-law issues, and under it all, the warm embrace of family love. Viola Grace has that rare gift of recognizing the miraculous in the mundane. Perfect!
Lyra is on a ship to procure a bond through education in line with her specific attributes. She is chosen as a guardian in a mechanized suit after rigorous assessment. Then she gets hazed by two guys and she is triumphant. Yatal is smitten.
Love this couple. Lyra is tough as they come. This world building was stellar. I enjoyed it so much, especially the epilogue. I highly recommend. I’m hooked on this series.
I have been enjoying reading books by Viola Grace, and this book is no exception. Quirky characters with attitude and wild situations make for fun reading. Keep it up Viola!
