I wanted to get into poetry and wasn't sure where to get started, so I picked this out to experience a wide range of time tested poems. As a sampler it did its job, though this curation isn't much more sophisticated than lists you can find online, and really does seem to be a simple "Sort by most viewed". Given its a glorified reading list I give it a 3/5.

I've marked the titles of the poems that I enjoyed as a public highlight for any interested. It came out to 32 out of the 150 poems. Taste in poetry is obviously incredibly subjective so its tough to give any blanket recommendations, but those are the ones I enjoyed.

Overall the experience was a success and I'll be looking to read more of the poets I enjoyed!

I'm not much of a poetry reader or even poetry writer for that matter, but this was a decent collection of poetry. Maybe I need to be exposed to more poetry by taking more literature classes in college. This collection is kind of a mixed bag. Some poems are really long and kind of boring and left me wondering what I just read or if any of it even made sense to me, but at least the longer ones seem to tell a story. A never-ending one, albeit sometimes, but still there were a few gems that will stick with me and had me highlighting for a later time. Poems that rhyme are always the best and more fun to read, at least to me, so I liked that too.

I loved that there were poems that I've only heard about on TV, my favorite being "A Poisoned Tree" by Robert Frost, which was used in The Originals back in season 1 and read as a voiceover by the amazing Joseph Morgan. I love that poem so much that I can almost quote it all by heart. I really wish Joseph Morgan would do an audiobook for poetry sometime. It would definitely be a bestseller with his voice!

If you love poetry and literature, definitely give this one a read sometime. It's like going to English class, only without actually being there or having to write all those long-term papers.

The only reason I gave three stars instead of a higher rating is because I feel like some of the poems in here were kind of just filler.

Poems are one of those things, they either wrap their hands around your soul or they make you feel like you should be taking notes at a desk. 📖

So many of these had that soulful feeling to them, and by poets that are so well known yet I do not read them enough! ✨️

I'm gonna be keeping this book around and coming back to it frequently 😏

As an avid reader of poetry - this is a great resource! It more or less has all of the famous and renowned poems from poets such as Emily Dickinson, Robert Frost, Edgar Allen Poe and many others. It is a sort of book, nice to have on the shelf and revisit your favourite poems now and then. The format and design is really nice and easy to read. I loved the empty spaces on the pages, which also allows you to make additional notes if need be.

At the same time, if you are looking into breaking into poetry, but do not know where to begin - this is a great book to get you started. It is a very good introduction to the different poets and you can easily see which poet(s) you relate to and explore more of their poems.

I enjoy reading Dickinson, Frost, and Poe. I expanded my repertoire by reading other poets who I am not quite as enthralled with, but whom I love to read. This is a nice basic collection of poetry that everyone should read. I like that many of these poets are American.

I was reading this on and off between books, which seems better to do than to read all the way through. I feel this is a good collection in both its quality and its variety. Thanks to this, I can say that I've figured out my tastes in poetry, and can go on to read more of the stuff that I liked the most.

The idea of import or canonisation is always an interesting one. Such a shame in this instance that the audio book was read by someone so lacking in poetic flair there was so little distinction between the end of one poem and the title of the next. Also, if your American, maybe don't read Scots poetry if you're going to mispronounce every word

A nice compilation. I wonder who selected the poems and what the criteria were. There are so very many others that could have been included (ending with W.B. Yeats, why not "Easter 1916"?) Reading this did send me often to the internet to look up historical context and analyses.
This is my book club's August selection and I am looking forward to how the discussion will go.

A nice collection of many of the more well-known poems in the English language. Great for people like me, who appreciate poetry, even though so much of it requires excessive concentration and multiple re-readings in order to get a grasp of the poet's intent.
