Lazy Dungeon Master #4

Lazy Dungeon Master, Volume 4

Rate this book
A town was built around the dungeon I lazily manage and somehow, I ended up becoming its town chief. Yep... Wait, what?! Why?! Guess I'll just offload all this work onto other people... aaaand now there's a super strong mystery monster hiding out in my dungeon. This is definitely something I gotta deal with myself, too. And not only that, but a Holy Priestess is dead set on destroying Dungeon Cores is fighting over me with Rokuko?! Why do I attract so many weirdos?
This is volume four of my own lazy dungeon story! I'll drive out this monster and regain my precious sleeping time!

I am going to say up front. I am not a big fan of compilations of short stories. They are usually to short to get a feel of the story and your left wanting not satisfied. This volume had shorts stories thrown in the middle of the three main chapters. Now the stories fit and helped pushed the time forward. This was why they were fine but I think I would have rather had normal chapters.

Placing "side stories" in the second quarter of Book 4 weakens the purpose of this Book 4. That and that this author likes to repeat the information/action from different points of view (sometimes even three times for the same act/action/event).
What the author does to Niku is called "grooming" and while it is not a crime in a lot of places in the world, "seducing" or preparing to seduce underage/minors should be considered a crime, because the author and publisher are targeting minors with light novels like this one, and then they are "brain-washing" them trying to convince them that adults that "seduce them", and take them to bed, use them as pillows, etc. is Okay while its completely wrong and should not be tolerated.
I do not know why there is comedy and sex innuendos mixed as if they ever could in a story written and made for minors and young adults. Promoting crimes done to minors to underage/young adult readers is a crime in the U.S., Canada and most of the rest of the World...it violates Universal Human Rights of the minors that read these stories...creates sexual predators and lessens sexual predator crimes...
This book 4 felt like a filler volume. While Alca (High Priestess) and Rin are doing all they can to "destroy and conquer" the Dungeon (Cave of Greed), the author humorizes absolutely everything, so it's hard to seriously consider Alca and Rin as threats to the Dungeon or antagonists of the main characters...If half of each of the books are side stories, then the light novel is moving "half" as fast and it will take forever to conclude this light novel series...

Keima's town and dungeon gets two visitors, a holy priestess and an unknown black wolf monster, both equally troublesome although for completely different reasons. It requires Keima's typical smarts and experimentation to have any chance at all of successfully dealing with the two.

Much like the earlier three volumes Lazy Dungeon Master 4 is an entertaining light-hearted read of a lazy crafter who uses his brains more then his brawns and whose plots at times backfire in funny ways. Limited harem antics (rather tame at that), in this case volume including a yandere, loli jokes due to misunderstandings and the occasional feet joke are some of for me downsides, but those are not new to the series.

All in all, a great addition to this slow-burn light-hearted slice-of-life dungeon running series.

Fun but rather shallow volume. The overall plot of this volume centers on the introduction of two powerful characters, but the conflict is rather short-lived. It does kinda show when there are side-stories punctuating the chapters in the book.

The only upside is the slight world-building in this volume, by introducing the perennial favourite trope of extremist religions. Ultimately, nothing major really does happen.

When reviewing the earlier volumes of this series I referred to them as perfect isekai. This volume, while very much enjoyable, doesn't really deserve that level of praise. It just felt a bit bland.
