Peter Porker, the Spectacular Spider-Ham (and breakout character from Into the Spider-Verse) , arrives in this all-new, original graphic novel for younger readers! Experience a laugh-out-loud day in the life of Spider-Ham! After long being derided by the citizens of New York, Spider-Ham has finally been recognized for his outsized contribution to the city's safety, and receives the key to the city from none other than the mayor (and, being a cartoon universe, the key actually unlocks New York City's political and financial institutions). Sure, it's just a publicity stunt for the beleaguered mayor-and yeah, maybe every single other super hero was busy that day -- but an award is an award! Of course, Spider-Ham isn't paying attention to the fine print telling him he didn't actually get to keep the key, and he swings off without returning the highly coveted oversized object. The next day, when the mayor's office finally gets in touch to ask for the key back, Spider-Ham realizes he must have dropped it sometime in the last 24 hours. YIKES. Now, our notoriously empty-headed hero must retrace his steps from the past day, following his own trail to discover where he dropped the key before it falls into villainous hands. Did he lose it during a rooftop chase with the Black Catfish? Drop it in the middle of a tussle with the Green Gobbler? Leave it behind while visiting Croctor Strange's magic mansion? Accidentally store it next to May Porker's vacuum cleaner? Who knows? You'll have to read to find out! But one thing's for sure -- Great Power, No Responsibility is an action-packed, hilarious adventure perfect for younger readers.
Porco-Aranha: Grandes Poderes, Nenhuma Responsabilidade, traz duas HQs originais estadunidenses nesta edição.
The story: Spider-ham had received the key to the city, while appearing in Mayor's re-election campaign. He was supposed to return it. But he took it away, and lost it! What happened thereafter? The assessment: Loads of puns and memorable takes on superheroes, especially the Avengera. The feeling: Had a grin all throughout. Recommended.
Spider-Ham: Great Power, No Responsibility is an awesome graphic novel that does not take itself too seriously. This pun filled tale is perfect for children and big kids alike. There are jokes that everyone will laugh at and appreciate. From the clever superhero names to the great one liners that Spider-Ham has on every page there is something for everyone.
What I enjoyed most about Spider-Ham: Great Power, No Responsibility is Spider-Ham himself. Just like Spider-Man he has a lot of bad luck, but Spider-Ham helps cause a lot of his own angst. He might not be the best superhero but he tries so hard to try and solve the crime. In the case of this story, there is a very important key missing that takes our hero on a great adventure around the City of New York as he retraces his tracks to find the missing key before it falls into the wrong paws. You have to read the graphic novel to find out why this key is so special and why a certain villain is after it and Spider-Ham!
The illustrations in this graphic novel compliment the cartoonish characters perfectly. Spider-Ham would be a great fit in a Saturday morning cartoon or in the Sunday funny pages. The artwork just adds to the slapstick humor of the story and makes the jokes even better.
I remember reading Spider-Ham comics as a kid and enjoying them so much. They were so funny. Then seeing Spider-Ham in a starring role in the Spider-man: Into the Spider-Verse film and now in his own new graphic novel was a real treat. I hope there is a second graphic novel coming!
I highly recommend Spider-Ham: Great Power, No Responsibility to any Spider-Man fan who enjoys good puns and a great mystery adventure story. You will laugh reading this fun tale and keep your eyes out for all the entertaining jokes that are hidden in the background and illustrations.
This thing was hilarious. I am admittedly not too much of a superhero comic person (yet 😜) but this was great. And my reluctant reader 11 year old stayed engaged. Awesome. You don’t really need to know about Spiderman lore to follow along and enjoy.
"Up next: if we're all animals, where do our hamburgers come from?"
Ha! An adorable, short and sweet adventure featuring everyone's favorite spider-bitten-by-a-radioactive-pig: Spider Ham! Spider Ham has been given the key to New York City! One problem, though: between the time he got it and the day after, he lost the key. And it's not just a symbolic fake key, either - it's the actual key to New York City, it will open anything in the city. Anything. Now the Mayor is pissed, the mayor's assistant is pissed, all of city hall is annoyed and Spider Ham just can't remember what he did with that key...
Hilarious and sweet, would definitely recommend to middle-grade readers looking for graphic novels in the Marvel multiverse, or anyone who enjoyed Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse.
Three cheers for Peter Porker, the spectacular Spider Ham!
This is basically Dog Man meets Spider-Man, and yeah, it's technically for kids, but I loved this. Cute and funny (and punny for all you Marvel fans out there).
"Great Power, No Responsibility" is a fun Spider-Ham book. I have really only seen Spider-Ham in the Spider-Verse films (and very briefly in one of the Miles Morales Spider-Man books), so this is pretty much my first time reading a Spider-Ham comic. A friend of mine mentioned the artist and shared the book, so I wanted to check it out. I'm glad I did.
It's a hilarious Spider-Man satire. Spider-Ham was a spider who was bitten by a radioactive pig, and thus became a pig with superpowers. He's a bit obnoxious and arrogant, but that leads to a lot of humor - especially with his clumsiness and silliness. I was laughing throughout as I read. There was some great satire of other superheroes. I like how each of the superheroes was an animal too and the jokes at their expense.
The story was more simplistic and fun. There isn't much character development or complexity, but that's okay as this one is meant to be lighthearted and a fun read. It reminded me a lot of the Squirrel Girl comics and the lighthearted humor in those books that can bring joy. The artwork is good too and added to the fun tone of the story.
Overall, this is a nice, lighthearted book. The story has some good humor and it was a fast (though not too fast; the pacing was appropriate for the story) and decent read. I give it a 3.5/5 (rounded up to 4). It's definitely more for kids, but it's something adults can enjoy (especially if you like the Squirrel Girl comics).
In an alternate universe, Spider-Ham is the spider who was bitten by a radioactive pig and turned into a superhero for New Yolk. When all of the Scavengers are busy (Captain Americat, Iron Mouse, Captain Meowvel, Thrr, etc.) are busy, the Mayor has to invite Spider-Ham to accept the key to the city as a symbolic gesture of thanks. There's just one itty bitty problem. Spider-Ham didn't realize he wasn't supposed to keep it, and he kinda, sorta misplaced it in his adventurous night of fighting crime after the ceremony. Can he find it before someone uses it for evil?
This was pretty entertaining. You start to wonder how Spider-Ham manages to put on his suit the right way with the brains he seems to possess. His saving of the city appears to be more happy accidents than clever plotting, but he's a likable bumbling superhero and his adventure retracing his steps is quite humorous. Also, the authors had loads of fun with the alternate universe versions of various good and bad characters adjusted to animal forms. Hand this to humor fans who love superheroes.
Notes on content: No language issues or sexual content. This is very much Saturday morning cartoon style in the violence and you get the idea that everyone is fine 5 min later.
The thing I love the most about this book is that I believe it works for all ages! While it's target audience is 8-12 years old, I believe that younger and older can appreciate this fun, quick read. The art is perfect for the subject matter and the pages fly by as you read the story full of puns, twists and turns. The characters (based on the real ones from Spider-man's universe) are on point and fun. I bought The Spectacular Spider-Ham when I was a kid and now sharing it with my kids with new installments is a real treat! Great Power, No Responsibility is a fun ride worth your time.
Miss 7 thought this multi-verse book was funny (especially the references to the rest of the Avengers).
Miss 7 and I like to explore different books and authors at the library, sometimes around particular topics or themes. We try to get different ones out every week or so; it's fun for both of us to have the variety and to look at a mix of new & favourite authors.
Hilariously bad (in a good way!) story about Spider-Ham, the spider who was bitten by a radioactive pig (yes, really)! Standard "the hero is an idiot" story, but a fun read all the same!
Recommended for all ages of readers who love a good laugh! Not recommended for anyone who hates terminally clueless people (sorry, it's pretty bad).
This book was an absolute riot! As someone who isn't a die-hard superhero fan. I found myself laughing out loud at every page. But what's even better? My normally disinterested child couldn't put it down! The writing is engaging and the story is easy to follow, making it a perfect read for anyone regardless of their knowledge on Spiderman lore. Trust me, you'll love it!

What a delight! Such a fun kids graphic novel featuring the always charming Peter Porker, who is not very responsible. Playful and engaging! Definitely would recommend to young middle graders who want to read some good Spider content.
Silly fun book sure to be a hit with Spidey loving kids. Recommended for kids who like Spider-Man — they’ll see lots of familiar characters in animal form as they dole out justice and plenty of puns.
When Spider-Ham loses something incredibly important, he has to travel through his previous day’s shenanigans to find it… I love all the puns on the superhero names. There’s loads of humour in this, and gorgeous illustration too!
4.5 Format: hardcover This was so cute!! It is hilarious for spider-ham to be so unaware of how much he messes up and how much everyone dispises him. Very well done. Also I never knew his insane backstory!
Spider Ham and I are not friends. I cannot wrap my head around a spider turned pig, especially since he's not very super hero like. But I see the appeal for people. Ages 7 to 10.
3.5 stars. A lot of surprisingly sophisticated jokes/references for a kids book, very enjoyable. It wraps up the story well and introduces many parody characters
