Staring down death is easy. Being trapped on a small ship with five tempting men... Not so much.
I’m the best damn pilot and smuggler in the galaxy. My specialty is messing up shit for the tyrants who conquer and destroy worlds.
When I land a secret mission that could end the centuries of war, it comes with a team of five rebels and traitors—including my ex, who’s acting like he didn't betray me in my darkest moment.
I'll have to rely on these men to survive and save the galaxy when my greatest foe returns. But getting close to any of them is a blueprint for disaster that will doom this mission—and my heart.
Somehow facing my past is the hardest thing I've done, especially when these men want to be part of my future.
A Star Pilot’s Fearless Rebel is a reverse harem space opera, featuring a bad-ass heroine, sexy rebels, and gripping space battles. It’s a combination of Firefly and Star Wars with a RH twist. It is the first in a medium-burn series.
This book was originally published as A Star Pilot's Heart. This updated edition includes swoony and exciting new chapters!

A Star Pilot’s Fearless Rebel is the first book in the Star Pilot series by Eva Delaney & Vivi Clarke. The Star Pilot series is dubbed as a reverse harem space opera, and even though I don’t read a ton of science fictions, I do really enjoy a reverse harem, so I thought I would give this one a good. I am glad that I did, because I really enjoyed the first book in this series and I am interested in continuing on with the series. I am on board with the description of this series as being a mashup between Firefly (yes!!) and Star Wars.
In A Star Pilot’s Fearless Rebel, we meet our main character Cal, who is a take no prisoners Captain. I enjoyed Cal because I love a sassy heroine, and she has sass for days! I enjoyed meeting the men as well. Some I like more than others but I never like to make a snap judgement in the first book because I know we have a lot more character discoveries to make, and normally in reverse harems my initial opinions of the guys change. After I read books 2 and 3 we will get into a bigger discussion about Cal’s guys.
This book was a lot of fun. There is a lot going on. Not much harem action right now because Cal is still developing all of her relationships, plus there is also plenty of action and a mystery woven into the story as well. If you like a fast paced story that is really easy to fall into, and you are a fan of science fiction, then I think you will really enjoy the Star Pilot series. The first three books in the series are currently out, and they are included in your Kindle Unlimited Membership, so extra yay! I enjoyed this book, and am definitely interested in continuing on with the series. In fact, I have books 2 and 3 currently loaded up on my kindle ready to go!
I usually try to finish the chapter I’m on before dnfing but ugh I just can’t. I really dislike Cali. She’s flip flopping and there isn’t any reasoning changes or explanations. She has valid reasons for not wanting to do the mission, but for reason now wants to do it…even though she hasn’t changed her mind on the reasons. The General throwing this crew together or people who obviously don’t get along is stupid too. It’s all very things are happening that don’t make sense because we need the plot to move in a certain direction. Which is irritating.
The plot itself was pulling me through, because I like… none of the characters, but with Cali about to do what she’s doing and her being thrown back to Recruit for not accepting a mission (seriously wtf?!) I just can’t get myself to enjoy this.
This book has been on my radar for quite some time already and yet there always were other books I read first. It happens quite often, as you might have noticed. It's the very sad truth: I will never be able to read EVERY book I'm planning on reading. However, since a few weeks I'm part of Eva's ARC team and we've been told that this summer book 3 in this series is being released. So, time to catch up!
And every time I read Sci-fi I'm reminded once again that I love it. I have to admit that I lack all the technical knowledge to understand all the details, but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy all the space traveling, the wars to conquer the universe and the planets, the futurist weapons and the ships. The possibilities are endless and every sci-fi feels like a new trip to the great unknown. And this one was no different.
The focus of the story is on the characters and their slowly growing bond. It's very clearly a slow build and yet that's also the great charm of this story. In this book we get the time to get to know the characters. Of course, we get to know mostly our main character, who had an amazing emotional development in this book, but we also get a very clear impression of all her guys. And all of them are so different and unique! It was so easy to tell them apart and to remember who was who and who came with which backstory. I was very positively surprised by that.
And underneath all the personal drama, bonding and development, there's also a bigger plot. We don't get to see much of it, but especially the ending gives us an impression of a very interesting conflict with probably even more interesting key players. I hope that in the next book we get to see more of this conflict and all the intrige and all the fighting. I most of all would love to see all the goals and destinies. Especially because I get the impression it's much more grey than our heroine thinks.
So, you probably guessed it: I'm hooked! So I'm looking forward to the next book! Most likely somewhen next week!
↳ I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review. The expected publication date for A Star Pilot's Heart: A Reverse Harem Romance(All the Stars in the Sky, #1) is January 15, 2019.
3.5 stars
➳ I have mixed opinions on this book. There are some parts that I enjoyed, the writing (the description during the action scenes was impeccable) and especially the dialogue, for example, but other parts that I was iffy on. The FMC's personality was intolerable. Being someone who values characters over plot, it was difficult for me to read this as I couldn't stand the personality possessed by the lead role in this story. She was always so apprehensive, I absolutely hated it.
➳ I will say, however, the FMC does improve towards the end of the book, but for the 200 plus pages before her change, the above remains true, and will hold true no matter how much she continues to change in the next book(s) in this series.
➳ Of course, this had to end in a cliffhanger due to the fact that it is the first book in the All the Stars in the Sky series, not only the debut series but the debut novel by author Eva Delaney. I can say that I will definitely be checking out the following book(s) in this series and this book was so strong, even though most of the opinions expressed in this review are negative and 3.5 stars looks like a relatively low rating.
➳ Bottom line: I enjoyed this a LOT more than I thought I was going to when I started it, so I am glad I was able to have my nonexistent expectations exceeded (that made literally no sense, but let it happen. It's 3:30 am & I haven't slept in literally 24 hours at least give me a break).
A reverse harem space opera, Star Wars style? Yes please! I was a little iffy about the book in the beginning (see below), but I'm definitely glad I stuck with it, and I'm doubly glad I don't have to wait for the release of the next book.
Cali is a smuggler/captain for the Uprising, and she's like a female Han Solo (or like his Expanded Universe daughter, Jaina Solo, but don't get me started). She's assigned to lead a top-secret mission to get to an Uprising spy whose cover was blown before the enemy Supremacy forces get to the spy, but Cali doesn't work in a team and hasn't ever since her last team and former lover (who naturally is assigned to her new team) abandoned her when they faced overwhelming odds in a space battle years ago. She's not happy about this arrangement, to say the least, and a good chunk of her new team isn't happy about it either. The team is a ragtag bunch of sweethearts and shitheads, with Cali falling somewhere in the middle of that spectrum. And there's an awesome pug.
What DIDN'T Work: plot devices in the beginning and worldbuilding
When Cali is first given the mission, she rejects it because she knows this team will be a shit show. When one of the team members calls her a selfish coward for that, she tries to take back her rejection, but the general says it is too late, at which point Cali's attitude change and short-term memory loss gave me whiplash. She immediately starts thinking along the lines of "how dare they not give me this chance when I'm the best?!" apparently completely forgetting that they TRIED to give her the chance and she said no. Like she was insulted this militarily organization wouldn't cater to her whims, wait for her to change her mind, and risk her changing her mind again. Obviously hijacking the mission anyway is the best way to show them the error of their ways! Smh. All of that was very off-putting for me, but I think it was one of those things where the author needed to get the characters to a certain set of circumstances but couldn't quite think of a good way to get them there. Like "I want this sane and rational character to intentionally shave off only one eyebrow, but why would he do that? Idk! Let's just say something and move on." That's the best explanation I can come up with anyway, because that was the only time I was really thrown by a characters thought processes or even considered dropping the book.
As for the worldbuilding . . . There isn't really any. It feels like the author is relying on the readers' familiarity with Star Wars to do all the worldbuilding, but I still had some questions. Like, WHERE ARE THE ALIENS? Not ONE. SINGLE. Alien was described, and pugs are apparently a thing in this universe, but Earth and other animals native to Earth were never mentioned, so I really have no idea what's going on there.
What Worked: the characters
This is a slow burn in the sense that there's a lot of interest and UST floating around, but Cali actively pursues a relationship with only one guy in this book. I'm not sure yet if a man outside her team will be a harem member, and I kind of think I don't want him to be because he seems to be an ex (the not-on-good-terms kind) of one of the guys that I DO want in the harem. Because yeah, there's UST between some of the guys on the team too.
All that being said, I think the harem may be the best part of this book. I'll be honest: I don't really care whether they get to the spy in time. I know the Supremacy is the bad guy, but I don't really FEEL the stakes there. I care more about the safety of the team, but I'm most interested in the character dynamics. You know a book harem is good when the FMC isn't even in its best scene. They all have their own stuff going on and their own personalities, and I love it. By the way, I highly recommend the bonus chapters you get for joining the author's mailing list, because one of those chapters has my favorite dialogue so far:
"I [Orion] gaped at him [Antares]. “What is your life?” “A cornucopia of darkness and misery.” I had no words. I knew what it was like to be miserable and didn’t want to make fun. But his line was ridiculous. Everything about him was ridiculous. “I once had a cornucopia of fruit,” Polaris said, coming up next to us. We both blinked at him. “A small one,” he added. “Why am I stuck with this fucking circus?” I said. “Because this fucking circus is keeping you from doing something fucking stupid,” Antares said. “No, you’re not. Cali will be captured before I can get to her and save her. Then we’ll have to waste time finding her and…and who knows what they’ll do to her.” I did, but I couldn’t bring myself to say it. “Who do you think you’re talking to?” Antares said. “An asshole.” “A magnificent asshole,” he said. “I don’t need to hear about your—” “Hold my pug.”"
I received an ARC copy of “ a star pilots heart “ in return for an unbiased honest review. This book to come out on the 15th Jan 2019.
Cali is a burnt up chip on her shoulder cold hearted star pilot who is thrown into chaos and drama in a “Star Wars Esque themed “ reverse harem romance. Cali never thought she could find love again after her past left her oh so alone, but her destiny says otherwise. Confronted with her past and some new hot and steamy men- we discover together of Cali can ever forgive herself and let anyone break down her hard heart. Cali is a bad ass who doesn’t need no man but after sooooo long alone she finds she can’t resist!
I enjoyed this book , I wish we had gotten to know the other members of the Harem more, it really just focused on one member. The other members seemed to have had previous crushes on the MC but suddenly it was what seemed like insta love for no real reason. The feelings seemed very superficial and a bit odd ... although if your into M/M I think this story is alluding to that maybe in later books. I look forward to the next book, I hope that the story isn’t so jarring. The villain seems a little dumb and his personality and intelligence changes from page to page.

Captain Cal is tough as nail pilot, who is sassy, sarcastic and a highly relatable tough female main character. I enjoyed her story and the building of her relationships with her harem. I like that one of her men is a past love that has tracked her down and is holding a secret; that is key to why she is emotionally hung-up on the past. The dynamic of this group is different, there is outright hate, long lost love, the enemy, a bit of hero worship! I love it! This book as a bit of everything, love, steamy scenes, action, fighting sequences, mystery and plot twist and then a bit more of the twist. I truly enjoyed reading this novel and I cannot wait to see what their future adventures bring forth!
This was an exciting read and a fab series opener. I enjoy RH and I love sci fi romance and this book did a great job with both by giving me all the feels, adventure, brashness and chemistry to totally whisk me away. I found the authors hit it right for me in terms of balancing the pace, humour and action. The characters were strong and intriguing, and felt real, so I was totally invested in them. I cannot wait to dive into the next book to see what's next ;)
I really got stuck into this book, as the storyline just flows. We meet Cali as she's flying back to base when she rescues Orion. This is when things take a turn and she meets Rux, Hamal, Antares and she finally meets Polaris face to face. From here the story takes off as they go in search of agent winters. With many twists and a little heat we see this slow burn read close on a slight cliffhanger and ready for the next book
I have been on a Sci Fi binge and also wanted another RH so this was recommended. I enjoyed it overall. Main plot has enough to keep me interested. Slower burn so you get the relationship building for the harem to make sense and just a small pinch of spice.
Will continue on to see where it goes and see the relationships develop.
I really enjoyed this fast paced, action packed space opera. With a kick-ass female protagonist the motley crew she doesn’t want, this cross between Firefly and Star Wars was really fun. Points off for a too-slow burn, and mentioning her abandonment issues to death. Can’t wait for the next book. 2022 reading challenge-2 books with the same word in the title-Book 2 (star)
This is the first book in this series. I greatly enjoyed this book. Cal is a rebel and one of the best pilots around. She is sent on a mission with five infuriating men. Lots of bickering between the males and some serious steam in this book. The FMC is fiesty and fearless but doesn't know her own heart.
This book was actually pretty awesome even though it took me getting to the third chapter before I was sucked in. All the MCs were fantastic except for Orion, he was just too cheesy and that itself annoyed me to no end. But all in all I really enjoyed reading this book and I look forward to the next book in this series because I want to know what happens to all the MCs. This is my first time reading anything by either of these authors and I must say they are great at weaving their story. So yes I do recommend this book because I really liked it and I think everyone else will too.
A big hot mess w/a b itchy overly proud h w/a chip on her shoulder in command....
To me this was just a bit H O T mess of a story w/a angry bitter woman at the helm.... Little to No world building is done, what little we know about this world is done thru little snatches of convo between characters here and there... Same w/character backstories and relationships.... Not much is built up,the world, the characters and their relationships with each other.... I’ll be honest, I skimmed most of this book because after the first chapter this bitter, angry, hard hearted, short sighted, narrow minded, dim witted user of a woman earned my loathing and I _only _ finished book with unrewarded curiosity because I was curious as to what happened... But like said,my curiosity went unrewarded, the “ending” was blah and I wish I hadn’t been sooo curious after all.... I stopped liking”Cali” our h when once landing back on the station to deliver her goods, she spurned the sweet/kind Polaris because he wouldn’t spill details about a mission that weren't his to tell.... when her manipulative flirting didn’t get her desired response with him,she saw it as a betrayal and walked away... not caring if she hurt his feelings, telling herself “he was just another person she couldn’t count on”.. Whaaaaaat? Your trying to use him for info and when he doesn’t give it he’s the one doing the betraying ? I thought that was cold, especially since she knew he might have a little crush on her... even more soo when we’re told he had been there for her at one the lowest points of her life and sat w/her as she had cried her way thru it... That’s a true friend in my book and we don’t use or treat friend like that... See that’s the thing we see early on about good ole Cali, she’s the type who feels used and bitter about it but she has a do to them before they can do to you attitude towards others ... never really seeing beyond herself.. She’s supposed to go on a mission w/the mix of very different men, most of them we are told little to nothing about,no backstories,no getting to know them. N. O. T. H. I. N. G,and what little we do get never really paints a clear picture.. She being the O sooo “bright” bulb 💡 that she is decides she has the hubris to take on this mission all by herself even though she knows very very little about it because she got angry and stormed off before the briefing really even began... Dear gods I wanted to smack her upside the head soo freakin bad... This B is a coward, and a know it all ,hard hearted w/out the sense God gave a goose, even when she thinks she’s being a martyr she doesn’t have a tenth of the details right she thinks she does... She takes off on her ship 🚀 w/out the sense to check it out first, soo of course she leaves w/all the ppl she's trying to leave behind..... what a freakin moron.... She’s too stubborn and bitter and cowardly to do anything right with other ppl... Orion her once great love 💕 wanders around the ship with just a pair of jeans on, Really ? You left this bitter itch three years ago,and you think running around on a space ship in just a pair of jeans is gonna win her back ? Seriously ? All the stupid stupid men do for most the book is fight, squabble and bicker among themselves while she tries to either hide or fake a leadership role with them... Still no building of worlds, relationships or backstories or any freakin thing of importance ..... This is a huge hot mess of a book.... Ps. One of “her” men,a supposed “traitor “ to the “ supremacy/empire” feels like maybe he was once the lover or something to the prince of the “supremacy” .... and the whole part with the prince felt beyond convoluted..... Atm as this continues I wonder if this will really be a “RH” or just another polyamorous set up calling itself a RH to draw in readers...
Calpurnia has been burned by love and life when her parents abandoned her, followed by the death of her sister when the Empire conquered their world; a failed mission where a lot of her comrades left the team and to top it all, the love of her life left her amidst all of these miseries.
A Star Pilot’s Heart is my first sci-fi and read from the authors. I’m not so much of a fan of sci-fi because I have a tendency to get lost in the sci-fi terms but reading this has been an enjoyable one for me. I kind of get how the FMC is a bit jaded when dealing with men. She was heartbroken and betrayed by the guy that means so much to her so it affects her view of men in general. I truly hope that on the next book, she will learn to trust again and heal with the help of her men. Polaris is such a sweetheart. I hope Calpurnia appreciates him more in the next book. I am intrigued by Prince Castor and his further role in the series. I’m not sure if the authors will add him to Calpurnia’s team or just be the seriously hot villain that we hate to love. The same thing goes for Antares. He is a big mystery for me as a character and his reason for joining The Uprising. Overall, highly recommend for those sci-fi lovers who love a bit of RH twist in their story. Definitely a must read.
I received an ARC and I’m voluntarily leaving an honest review.
This was a great read. Star Pilot's Heart is well-written, with a story and a setting that you'll enjoy if you liked Firefly or Star Wars, without being derivative. The main character is strong but relatable and empathetic, and the authors have created a varied and appealing supporting cast that you'll love, or you'll hate, but you definitely won't feel indifferent about them. If you like the sound of the blurb, buy the book; it delivers on its promises and it won't disappoint you.
Full disclosure: I received an advance reader copy but was not compensated for this review in any way.
I have never read anything like that before warlords assassins bounty hunters but In space add 3 really hot kick ass guys and 1 badass female to bring them to their knees and all the body mods were very interesting
Fearless Rebel is the first book in Eva Delaney’s and Vivi Clarke’s Star Pilot: Space Opera reverse harem series. Cali is one of the Uprising’s best smuggler pilots. She feels that she does things better alone. Smuggling is a lonely job, but when she’s tasked with a mission that involves leading up a crew with her ex and a group of men she knows nothing about she balks and refuses. Even when told it’ll cost her the only thing she has left she stands her ground and says no. Her pride won’t let her stand down though so she decides to utilitize deceit to show that she can do this...without a crew. Because she works better alone. Wild ride ahead. I love a good space opera novel and throw in reverse harem romance and I’m beyond sold. LOL! The problem though is Cali’s attitude. I don’t mind sassy characters and females with fire, but good grief! For me, this woman had arrogance and ego to swallow a galaxy like a black hole. Confidence is one thing, but arrogance is a whole ‘nother ballgame and it made me have to put this book down and step away for a few days. While Rux is right up there with her in the arrogance department, he calls her out a lot on stuff, which makes him a bit more palatable. I say that because no one questions her on anything and I find it strange especially when she was so adament about refusing the mission in the first place. All of the characters, except for probably Po and Hamal have attitudes to rival each other. After I had taken some time away from this book and came back to it, it was more bearable. Cali’s attitude and ego takes a backseat for awhile, but it’s never truly gone. Just always waiting in the wings to come out and parade itself around. I like that we get to the root of her issues towards Orion though. It helps put her in a different light. There is a lot going on in this book, and the main focus/storyteller is Cali. The storyline is engaging and I enjoyed the book overall. I do have one serious question for the authors though...can I have Mr. Pancake? LOL! He’s so cute! I love him! The variety of characters the authors give makes this story interesting. I really did enjoy this book, but Cali’s attitude really detracted from the storyline for me. I think it needed to be taken down a notch. For that reason I’m taking away a star and rating this book 4 out of 5 stars. I am looking forward to seeing where this story goes and what happens next with these characters.
For anyone who enjoy RH but would like a change of fantasy from paranormal and inhuman to something more out of this world…
I received an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review, the thoughts expressed in this review are 100% my own.
This novel is an intriguing and action-packed start to the series ‘All the Stars in the Sky’; A Star Pilot’s Heart is a slow-burn, reverse harem novel featuring a damaged but prickly female MC, Calpurnia Bellatrix, and her (yet to be) harem of five men.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, loving everything from the action sequences, to the romance, to the space setting, and much more. Eva Delaney and Vivi Clarke do a fantastic job of creating a world, conflict and backstory that leave you chomping at the bit for the next novel in the series. With brilliant characters (especially those men – yum!) and heart-pounding action, this book brings us the best of both worlds in a neat, little package. For me, I am desperate to see more of Calpurnia and her men as well as a confounding Crown Prince, and so will be waiting for the next in the series with baited breath. I absolutely recommend this book for the sci fi and reverse harem fans out there as it was such an enjoyable read. * * * Minor spoilers below… * * * * * * * *
The main character can be a little obsessive about the past and events that were damaging to her, but for me this was an interesting character trait that fit well with the anxiety we witness but I recommend that you stick with her because it only gets better! My main concerns about the novel hinge on the group dynamics and how becoming a harem alters these dynamics, especially since the one man she has been intimate with in this novel is her ex-boyfriend; this is concerning as when the relationships between Cal and her men do become more RH, I just hope that becoming a harem is a consensual act and not forced on the ex by Calpurnia and so am very interested in how the authors will manage this. The book ends on a cliff hanger which draws you in and makes you desperate for the next instalment.
While I'm quite familiar sci-fi and fantasy genres, A Star Pilot's Heart was my first foray into the Reverse Harem world and a spellbinding and thrilling introduction it was! Sure, maybe it name-drops some contemporary comparisons: Star Wars, Firefly. That was an easy sell for me! But neither nerd universe prepared me for Calpurnia Bellatrix! Powerful, confident, capable, and brash on the outside, she's surprisingly and delightfully human on the inside. Eva Delaney mixes sexy scenes of sensual storytelling with whispers of the inner thoughts we all think but go to great lengths to hide from one another. I expected lasers and space battles and villains and heroes and struggle and despair and luck and hope. And yet I left with so much more that I did not expect: Characters I cared about-- archetypes, all of them--yet unique and refined, each with a purpose, a strength, a weakness. Delaney takes from the sci-fi melting pot and puts back enriched tropes. I found myself turning pages, dreading the end, left wanting for the next installment, now, now, now! Perhaps I'm not the target audience for this novel or this genre, and yet I related, identified plenty. I wanted to be good enough to be counted amongst Cali's harem. Maybe if I keep up my routine of sit-ups and push-ups and cycling, no, double them!--someday, if I work hard enough, I could present muscles of sufficient ripple to raise her eyebrow. I like a challenge! And I look forward to the next one as soon as the pre-order becomes available!
*** Cliffhanger Warning! *** Oh my stars! This fun, exciting story has so much good stuff! It's science fiction, but not really scientific. It's romance, but light on the mushy love stuff. It's a medium-burn reverse harem, but in this part of the series, the female main character is dealing with her complicated relationship with just one man. It's a second chance romance, too. This is only the beginning of an epic, good vs evil, space opera. (Without the singing, I hope!) All of the characters (as far as I know) are human.
At first I thought this would be similar to Eva Delaney's rom-com books in tone. It's not! I'm impressed by how different this is, how the characters barely resemble those in her other books, and especially by the lyrical prose. I'm crazy about the astronomical metaphors and similes. Oh, and the people's names! Most have been named for stars or constellations. I thoroughly enjoyed the fast-paced action, the steamy hot, zero-gravity love scene, and the intense fight scenes.
I really enjoyed this sci-fi/space reverse harem book - the first in a series. It has hints of all of my favorite sci-fi movies and shows (Star Wars, Star Trek, Firefly, etc) and I like tough but damaged heroine Calpurnia - and that she is the best space pilot and savvy commander for the rebellion (known as The Uprising in this book). As far as her potential harem - there is a former lover which adds a nice touch, and then an untrustworthy traitor from the bad side (called the Supremacy), a tough/gruff guy who loves his gun (like Jane from Firefly - loved this homage!) a shy one who is super cute and loyal, and a doctor with a painful secret. She doesn't spend a lot of time interacting/conversing with these guys on page so their emotional connection by the end didn't fully hit with me - I would have liked to see this take more time and build more organically, but I like each of the heroes pretty well and see tons of potential for their relationships to grow. The most charismatic character in the book for me was actually the villain so I really look forward to more of him. There is groundwork for future MM and I will be ecstatic if that turns out to be the case. All in all, a very enjoyable read and I look forward to the next in the series. 3.5 on GR scale
I adore the Galaxy Circus series by Lexi Winston, and was hoping going in that this book would have some similarities and fill that void. Sort of right but they are very different.
The light summary: Cali is a pilot of a space craft for the Uprising (basically the rebels). She is a lone wolf but is pretty comfortable being aloof and isolated, as she has been burned/experienced loss in her past and thinks it is the safer alternative. The Uprising, assigns her to a mission with 4 very different men as well as a Supremacy (the bad guys) traitor. It is really action packed, with Star Wars vibes. It is a RH (thinking it will evolve to poly-RH) but a fairly slow burn. It does appear that her future harem is her ship mates but only one is really solidified this book. I have some theories about how her harem will form and can't wait to see how it plays out.
There is a good amount that is still in the air, that adds a fun level of suspense and drama. While I do tend to favor multi-POV books, especially RH ones, having only the FMCs POV be given allows for that suspense to build up more as we don't know the motivation from the others.
A sci-fi (potential) RH first in series with a hardened pilot/smuggler for the Uprising, and five infuriating yet attractive men on the same spaceship. Being on a mission under different assumptions than reality, with men that are either vying for Calpurnia's attention, driving her crazy, or causing trouble, is a one-way ticket to hell - yet Cali has nothing to lose anymore. Not against the prince of the Supremacy, Castor, her archenemy nr.1, either. Or maybe things are different than she thinks.. Interesting opening book that introduces the setup, the situation in the galaxy, the main conflict, and the main players. The characters already show their main personality traits and have still enough space for development. The romance is rather slow burn, and despite the chemistry between more than just Calpurnia and Orion, there isn't any real move forward for anyone else but the two old lovebirds. After the sudden twist at the end I am also very tempted to grab the next book in the series right now and continue reading.
This was the first sci-fi RH book that I've read. I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. The authors grabbed my attention from the first chapter and kept my attention throughout the book. This book is in the POV of the female MC, Calpurnia Bellatrix. She is put in charge of a team of 5 men (one of which is an ex-boyfriend) to travel to rescue an agent/spy for The Uprising. This book is a slow burn romance, but it is action-packed. This book also provides a lot of the background information for the story to progress, but hasn't fully developed the reverse harem aspect of the series yet. The authors did a great job of creating attraction and sexual tension between Calpurnia and the 5 men she is sharing a ship with. This book does end with a cliffhanger and definitely left me wanting more. I can't wait to read the next book in the series and to see how Calpurnia's relationships continue to develop.
I really enjoyed this book, just the right mix of adventure, mystery and a touch of romance. Cali left the air force defeated and feeling abandoned after a failed mission, to become a smuggler for The Uprising. She's pulled back in when a misfit crew is given the task to locate and retrieve an agent with vital information. Nothing quite goes to plan and the crew are constantly bickering between each other. I mostly liked Cali, she was fearless and brave, but considering she had been a commander, she made some badly thought out decisions. There is quite a bit of mystery in the characters, each one seems to have their own secrets, none of them trust each other enough to share, and are unsure if they can work as a team. It was interesting to see the dynamics as they spent time together. Definitely had a Star Wars kind of feel to the story. Still loads more secrets to come out and I'm looking forward to the next book.
This book is part one of Cali's story. Cali is an orphan who is fighting for the Uprising. Normally a solitary smuggler Cali is assigned a mission with five men -- Orion (her ex boyfriend who abandoned her), Rux (a surly gunner), Polaris (the geeky communications guy from the Uprising's base), Antares (a defector of the Supremacy), and Hamal (a doctor and gunner).
In the first half of the book I felt for Cali but also wanted to smack her upside the head. Don't get me wrong her life has sucked up until that point but she refused to listen to Orion when he tried to explain his absence. Which, fair, she doesn't have to hear him out but then she is just kind of a jerk to everyone else. It is set up as a trauma response but I got a bit sick of her self-sabotage. THAT BEING SAID -- it is a great book but Cali is setup by the authors, at least for now, as a bit of an anti-hero rather than a classic hero. Can't wait to see how the series progresses!
This story is one that has you instantly pulled in and keeps you glued to it. The story is one that you see all the characters and the emotional aspects in their lives. The story is seamlessly written as you cannot tell where one author ends and the other begins. We have our Captain Calpurnia, who we see quickly that she doesn’t work well with others. People have let her down and have caused her to harden herself. The crew that is with her have unique personalities that easily become very likable. I loved the interaction between all of them including the “villain” of the story. We have drama, action, suspense, secrets, and betrayals. It is a fantastic story that definitely keeps you on the edge of your seat. This book does end in a cliffhanger that only makes you more excited for the next one. Absolutely a fantastic must read.
