Take the brakes off your business. In the perfect follow-up to 1001 Ways to Reward Employees , the innovative book that has sold over one million copies, Bob Nelson reveals what real companies across America are doing to get the very best out of their employees-and why it's the key to their success.
Energizing is listening-AT&T's Universal Card Service's employee suggestion system yields 1,200 ideas a month and millions of dollars in savings. Energizing is encouraging risk-taking-Hershey Foods gives out The Exalted Order of the Extended Neck Award. Energizing is Starbuck's making employees partners, Saturn creating teams that function as independent small businesses, Springfield Remanufacturing's opening its books to all employees.
With case studies, examples, techniques, research highlights, and quotes from business leaders, 1001 Ways to Energize Employees is invaluable for managers seeking to increase employee enthusiasm and involvement.
The 1001 suggestions are actually stories of how managers in many different organizations motivated and energized their associates.
Too many of them were not practical. For example, one page described a company that had no titles, rules or formal chain of command. As a manager in a 55,000 associate company, it is hard to imagine implementing that.
The best approach is to strip each suggestion down to a principle and see if it can be applied in your case. Fortunately, with 1001 ideas, there are enough applicable ideas to help keep things fresh at work.
“Be a person that listens deeply to others, takes initiative to get work tasks done in your own way, constantly learning and improving from those around you, and always giving a high standard of service to those around you.”
This will always make me remember my trip to Cape cod with Juan and Nils, and I bought it for 2$ in Hynnais. It’s ok but ofc an old book written more than 20 years ago. Still, good stuff
This book does have a lot of ways to motivate employees, but it is more anecdotal types of motivation, such as giving extra time off, buying gift cards, etc. It is literally 1001 ideas for rewards. I was hoping for something a little more in depth, so in that regard it failed. I will likely keep it on hand for a while in the event I run out of ideas for rewards, and then will probably swap it away.
I love this book. If you are looking for ways how to motivate and energize your employees, this is the book for you. I work in non-profit so I can't always buy my volunteers gifts and trinkets, but there are definitely other things you can do to get a highly-performing workforce that doesn't include money, and Bob Nelson gives examples of how.
This book was a good read. It got a lot of real world examples. If you're an employee hand in this book to your boss/manager so he/she can learn how to keep their employees motivated. If bosses are willing to change their company/department let them implement only 10 ways from this book and they will see the difference in front of they're eyes!
Valuable to those who are in a position to make a difference...maybe...if you aren't there don't think this would be of much help. I found it beneficial for my research needs.
